    Miraculous that they could get thru that bit, singing the song, gazing into each other's eyes, without cracking up. Total pros. RIP Steve Lawrence.

      I think the words Missing Those Days is a understatement. Are these feelings what our parents felt ? Entertainment will never be the same. I wish I was wrong.

    Johnny Carson was the best! No one could come close to his greatest. Pure class. It happens that my Father was friends with Steve Lawrence’s older brother Bernie growing up, and Steve Lawrence, tagged along at times to the movies. My Father said he even remembered fun snowball fights in Winter. Steve Lawrence sent a personal note n photo to my Father for his 80th birthday ( at my request.) What a nice man.

      @@artmonk8576 and you know why its partially like that? Think about what has happened to television. Too many businessmen and television is probably second class next to internet. Everything is quick attention span stuff and come in with a loud exciting roar and continued crazy hype. Carson had a chill thing about him that the business would say a full stop no to. He may have been something that helped shaped attitudes back then in some way. The media and entertainment industry on tv might do that. He was chill.

    • @johnsjohnson448
      @johnsjohnson448 Рік тому +1

      Mr. Carson's success and longevity were epic in nature. Television was still growing, and his ratings were higher a decade into his host of the "Tonight" show than when he first started. Even on the "rare" occasion when he was off. This is almost unheard of. Yes, JC was the best!

    There was a term often applied to the giants of the industry in the early days who were all around entertainers: sensational. Collectively and individually, Johnny Carson and Steve Lawrence personified that distinction magnificently.

    They dont make them like they used to. Classy people. Everything was live. No lip syncing. Nobody swore and talked about body parts. Wholesome, class act entertainment. Our dignity was always held in place. Integrity was all around us. Now? Our society has gone straight into the toilet. Very, very sad.

    Johnny actually had a nice voice, but I think he suffered from a lack of confidence with it and almost "stage fright" with singing. In all the years I regularly watched the Tonight Show, I actually saw this episode when it first aired, and it was the only time I remember someone getting Johnny to sing. I will say that just this week, I saw on UA-cam a Tonight Show from around 1981 with Robert Goulet, and he and Goulet sang one together too...and again, Johnny did fine. I had the pleasure of seeing Steve & Eydie in Vegas a long time ago, and it was great. Sadly, both have now passed on...like almost all the greats from that era. As talented as many singer-songwriters are nowadays, very, very few have the talent and class of the legends (Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Perry Como, Steve & Eydie, Goulet, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, and just a few more).

    I will tell you this I am not cut out to be a trumpet player do play some guitar and bass. No disrespect to Doc or the Tonight Show Band but I cannot simply stand those high trumpet notes there at the end of when Steve and Johnny quit singing. Now Herb Alpert was the best trumpet player in my opinion Herb or his group to me never overplayed their instruments really enjoyed listening to Herb and his band great group by all means and Herb reminded me of the Late Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones Charlie never to me overplayed the drums he just played what was necessary. To Me Charlie Watts was to the drums what Herb Alpert was to the trumpet. Now when Jay Leno took over The Tonight Show I feel it took a turn towards a different and new era the band was decent and Jay did attract younger viewers and audience now today you don't see the big bands in talk shows I feel it due to a new and younger generation of viewers and audience. Moreover when Letterman started out the 4 piece band of Paul Shaffer was great . To me I'm just not a big swing band person . No disrespect to Trumpet players but I prefer no high wide open notes. Sorry folks but that's just the way I feel . Happy Holidays to you all and take care.
