It’s why Stalin is one of the most morbid men ever; he forced anyone who could hold a gun to stay in Stalingrad and prevented them from fleeing. He also forced them to go very close to the Nazis to slow them down, it was called “hugging”. So women and young children were essentially used as fodder and given a gun because all the men had been massacred already. Blows my mind that people still can see him as a good guy, the whole reason the allies invaded France was to meet up with Russia in Germany, because a Russian Empire was almost just as bad as a Nazi Empire...

My Mother’s Uncle was in the First Assault Wave at Omaha Beach. That first wave alone suffered 90% Casualties (the first wave literally got wiped out by the defenders). My Mom’s Uncle was one of the lucky ones to have survived in that first assault wave and made it to the sea wall and would take part in the rest of the Normandy Invasion. But that day stuck with him for the rest of his life. He told my mother when she was still young how he recalled the surf turning blood red from all the bodies in the water and how the dead soldiers corpses would just roll up onto the beach in the surf. I never met him as he passed away just before I was born. Currently he’s buried out in Calverton National Cemetery in Long Island, New York.
There is no way any video game or movie can recreate the horror of those eight hours on that beach and that’s a fact.

My Great Uncle was a Captain (he later became a Captain after the war) in the second world war and was a beach master on Omaha. He went in before the first wave in the attack. He directed the landing on that beach and helped soldiers out of the boats. He served on the beach with just a Colt 1911 and a dagger. He also got Poppy Boyntons Ivory pistol grips during a poker game. He was one of the first American soldiers to land in France that day. He also helped land General Patton in the invasion of Sicily and Salerno (on the USS Dickman) and got Italian Officer's knife there. He also served in North Africa. On Omaha, he was standing under heavy German fire. Somehow he made it out alive that day. He later served in the Korean War. After WWII, he served in the Coast Guard (in Korea), served in the Marine Corps (in WWII), and I have family who has served Navy and the Army. He went to VMI (class of 32) and graduated at age 22 and was 35 in 44. After the war, he became a sheriff. Rest in Peace Captain F Perry Williams and his fellow soldiers who didn't make it home.
Jesus Christ. You guys keep saying this is a lie but it isn’t. There are some things that don’t make sense from the story being passed down generations. What do you even benefit from this? You have no proof. You won’t expose me for lying if I’m not lying. I am proud of what my Great Grandfather did in the war and nothing will change what I think of that. I do appreciate the reply’s of people sharing their own stories of their ancestors in the war. It takes guts to do what these brave men did

And the firefight was so quiet. Like they were having a nice chat in the battlefield, hundreds of people running and dying around them and they're having a conversation.
The smgs in France thing annoyed me too. I mean so many rifles and ammunition were captured from the eastern front at the early days of the war that the Germans did make use of them on the western front. However the chances of encountering those weapons being used would've been extremely low. Not to mention the fact that the captured equipment used was from the early days of the war meaning the soviet smgs would've been few and far between even amongst the captured weaponry. The chances of encountering one on the battlefield would've been almost 0.

I just wish we had a WW2 where we play as the Germans. Like the intro would be somebody waking up in camp, narrating the build up for war . The narrator growing up to a collapsed Germany with a collapsed economy. He being ruined and living on the streets, and now finally there is an opportunity for young Germans to put dignity to their lives. FInally a chance at national redemption. What their grandfathers only dreamed of, what their parents never completed.
*flashbacks of -the treaty of versailles, german humiliation for an austrian war, the german economic collapse, the Franco Prussian wars on how French always sacked German Capital(since Napoelonic times) ...
Finally is our Generations to change history forever, for Europe, for Germans and for the World!
Then you get a panoramic first person view of the german marching and suddenly you hear the German March song and see an airplane flying over you , then tanks on your side...
and then you look at a center view and boom.. the Eifel Tower and witness a first person Blitzkrieg of the capture of Paris. The first time the Germans defeated the French on their own turf in a war.
Then you your first person view switches to the right and you the Es-Es badges... you're in the Es ES. Marching to some hardcore German Marching music...almost like star wars when the CLONE STORM TROOPERS are marching w/ orchestral music.
I'm not even european, but phuck this would be over af for the ww2 genere to play as the Grand Germans.
Oh and then the second one... you play as the RUSSIANS. In the japanese invasion and the german invasion.

7:34 This is exactly what the pirates of the caribbean ride felt like when I was 6. (1989) They had open ocean and pirate ships way off in the "distance". You would hear blasts and see Canon fire, then water would shoot up like that. As a kid, it was intense.

That's great I'm sure they were horrible. I'm just noting the judgement of detail one would have to accuse on a developer on a Cod game for getting their WW2 aircraft sounds mixed up. That to me is not something you can't call an excuse upon. It's just blasphemy.

watch the Movie Black Hawk Down. I was with the 229th Attack Helicopter BN, during the early 80's and they pilots from our unit to form the 160th. some of the best to ever fly attack aircraft. a Bridge to far which was done in the 70's was another great movie, and of course Band of Brothers. its sad that we dont learn from History, only to make the same sad mistakes again.

  • @pat97

This mission was a let down, especially the beach landing part, it was over in a minute? Total lack of immersion. Not to mention the terrible sound design. I mean they’re literally having a talking conversation on the landing craft, surely they should be screaming orders at each other with the deafening sound of gunfire/engines/waves crashing/bombardment?

Agreed. Saving Private Ryan. That’s the most accurate portrayal I have ever seen. No talking. No “tough guy” shit. Just silence, retching, dreading. Back into the belly of the beast, which no one wants to do.
I’m not trying to be corny or a smart ass. But war is hell doesn’t even one close to describing what everyone went through. I am seriously glad I live in the here and now, as selfish as that is to say as everyone else had to pay the price decades ago. I keep that in mind.

When I play games like this, I do not usually reload, without taking cover or enemies are swarming everywhere, just for more immersive experience since soldiers usually unable to count how many bullets they've fired especially in automatic rifles. I even put paper tape on my monitor to hide the remaining ammo.. hahaha... I really love playing history based war games, to honor the sacrifices those men made for freedom and a reminder of how difficult life can be in a war.
