5:42 fun fact: i felt the same way about his mask and the same resemblance. So back around 2016, during G2, i created a Jason Voorhees figure using the white version of this mask and mamy brown parts, especially from Pohatu and others of his element.

Tahu, the brave - if sometimes brash - leader.
    Gali, the caring heart.
    Kopaka, the skillful loner.
    Lewa, the jokester.
    Pohatu, the ever-friendly soul.
    Onua, the patiently wise.
These six were the heroes of my childhood, and to hear that Bionicle is now considered retro just breaks my heart…

Yeah I love seeing other people's rankings. But here's mine
6.Gali mostly for the same reason as you, my 11yr old mind wasn't ready for a female protag lol. Which is ironic given my now love for strong female leads in media.
5.Onua. I always thought of him as the oafish, brute force one, which in lore isn't accurate at all but what did I know.
4.Lewa, I loved the axe and the two tone green.
    3. Pohatu. Love the speedster concept and love how he gave a carefree mood to fighting evil.
2.Tahu. loved the fire motif and he was neat and all. I always imagined him butting heads with Kopaka.
1.Kopaka. my first bionicle set. As a kid who didn't talk much, I always found myself attaching myself to moody, quiet characters

Great intro on this! Kopaka and Lewa were and always will be my favorites. Though - when considering all the Bionicle theme - Matoro as a Toa Mahri has to be my absolute singular favorite character, though mostly due to his sacrifice in the context of the story, with Vezon being a close second for overall coolness.
Plans to go any further in the Bionicle theme as a part of the series? Admittedly, they pretty quickly became not-very-retro.

Kopaka Nuva was my first Bionicle, and he always struck me as the distant one of the group. He keeps a cool head usually tries to stay detached so that the Toa can always approach a situation rationally. Onua is more about wisdom, but Kopaka is about strategy.

My favourite toa mata is... All of them. I can't pick 😭.
I had all six of them as a teen, I had no exposure to the "canonical lore", all I knew is that I just loved them. Also, for some weird reason to me they were like Gundams (I suppose I was into a mech fixation at the time). I'd build what were effectively back packs for them out of bricks and plates, so that minifigs could pilot them 😅.
There just was something intriguing about bionicle, a call to explore their strange and mysterious world...

    • @keltondavisLEGO
      @keltondavisLEGO  2 місяці тому +1

@@keltondavisLEGO I really knew nothing at all, like, I didn't even know Gali was a girl! I was aware each toa had elemental power, because their design makes it pretty clear, but didn't know the masks had powers (though I had figured that they "powered" them in some way, a bit like medals in medabots).
I can see you lost the sleeve of your cannister -- I don't know what it is about them, but it seems like that's the case for lots of people 😅. Its really hard to find those cannisters now, even more with the sleeve! (Not even going to mention the lid)

@@SuperSecretBricks I'm ashamed to admit that I really wanted Gali as a kid, until I found out she was a girl. Booo.
