I liked one of the features in ARK. If a tool breaks and you have the resources/ability to build it, you just hit the hot key it’s assigned to and your character will rebuild it and the tool will auto assign to the hot key again.
The rebuilds of tools has been a huge negative to me on these games. I liked Valheim since it was free and just required you to be at a bench which fair enough gave you an extra reason to at least go back
All crafting games should just get rid of tool durability entirely. It serves no purpose except to waste the player's time. Just make it hard to acquire the materials needed to unlock the higher tiers of tools so the player will appreciate them when they finally have them.
@@MarkDeSade100 Yes. Or maybe have a system where tools only take damage when they're used on certain resources, for example the level 1 axe doesn't take damage from level 1 trees, but it does take damage from level 2 trees, which are in turn necessary to make a level 2 axe. And once you have the level 2 axe, the cycle repeats. That way, you're not punished for farming resources necessary for your tech tree level or whatever, but you also feel a boost when you get stronger items. Of course, you could make higher level tools gather resources faster, as many games do, but this just leads to artificially inflating gathering times at lower levels.
@@MarkDeSade100I'd say it depends on the level of grind you're looking for. Personally, I don't mind the "inconvenience" of repair and maintenance or replacement of tools and such. I remember looking at Medieval Dynasty and the previous Dynasty game not that long ago, but digging into the developer I found out they make a lot of games that look promising, but always move on when the game still has work to be done to make it a great game. 27:35 DUDE You just came up with the best idea for a survival building game! MAKE THE NPCs WORK. It would be so cool to have some NPCs help you build stuff while you plan. I guess it would be kind of like a city-builder in a sense but first person. And you could manually build if you wanted. Think about it, you could have the peasants do the boring/hard projects, like gathering, building roads, oversized buildings while you make all the plans. It would make the game feel less tedious and chore-like.
@@brianstaat1109 That's not what they're saying. They're saying you should be able to put the blueprint out, and the NPCs will build it. So yes, a first person city builder.
Instead of the axe just recrafting when your main axe breaks. A good feature would be like you said if you hotkey an item the hotkey slot should have like an + icon in the top corner of the slot where you can click and create new of the items that are hot keyed if you have the resources. Also, like you said the items should not break so fast. Realistically they should last for like at least a season. What could also be a great mechanic would be that when your items like an axe break they don't disappear but are just in a broken state that can be fixed when you get like a new rock or something. Lastly, there should be a tool that you can make and you can use it to keep the durability of your tools and weapons up so that they dont break as long as you use it periodically or if they break it just takes even longer.
I missed Splat.. the ‘it doesn’t look like I can rotate’ while the two options on screen are about rotating was classic. Despite things like that (that I’d probably be guilty of too if I tried to do what he does) I really appreciate him showing off the content he does. I’ve picked up a handful of games after watching him try them out
I don't mind wood or stone tools having low durability, as long as they're cheap to make. If you've used a wooded mallet you'll know they last about 2 seconds.
The rocks on the roof are just to keep the wind from blowing it off. Very common on traditional wood shingled buildings, but you can even see them on thatched roofs sometimes.
From the title and thumbnail pic, I was hoping this would be something like Skyrim set in feudal Japan. But it's actually a colony builder with first person pespective. Maybe I could still get into that, but it looks like this game really enjoys wasting the player's time. Tools break every 3 minutes and then you have to go scavenge materials to build them again. When building structures you constantly run out of stamina and have to literally just stand there and wait for it to come back before you can keep building. What purpose does that serve? The only upside is the huge inventory capacity, I'm with Splat in that all games should have that.
Glad to have you back. Needed my Splat fix!

Fuck yeah! Welcome back, and with a game I wanted to see you try out! 😁💜👍
Glad to see you back splatter
Splat: I dont see a gallows. *Looks directly at it* 26:18
SPLATTY!!!! Welcome back.
The rental market is crazy, you were still building the place and already people showing up.
