I noticed what appeared to be a higher noise level on my Washington and compared it A/B to my other ham rig (Yaesu FT-710), and they were about the same. I have the RF gain on both rigs turned down slightly and have set the DNR to a level "just-below-watery". It's great as a mobile as well. Nice video, Thanks!
@MowerJunkie Goodday from the Netherlands John. You should get the ACMD901 fan kit for the President Washington! It gets really hot because it does 80watts P.e.P. if you have modified it! Have Fun playing with your new radio!
John, I watching our friend Roger Bird's UA-cam channel and that Washington has a very special feature that allows it to be turned into a full repeater in FM mode. You need to use the CTSS tones as well as the repeater split offset. Ones you do that set it to relay. It will extend your mobile and hand held quite a bit depending on the antenna gain of the antenna it is plugged into If using it as a repeater I would get the duel fan kit and set the turn on temperature to protect the finals. Cord says hi. He and Gina would love to visit you and Barbra sometime.
As someone else mentioned, get the fan kit, easy install and they are not very loud, you can also set the temp threshold and let the fans run all the time or just when it gets hot. Radio works great, have gotten good reports with mine.
I have the george 2 it has been a great radio it was my 1st modern radio .Nice audio with just the stock mic i find having the rx nrc set at 2 to be a nice setting .I think you will like it i have caught some nice conditions on it and had some nice contacts .I think they should have called it a george 2 plus and kept the washington name for a good new Homebase radio if they ever made one .
Hi John, wondering how you are doing with this latest storm and flooding. Hoping you and the family are ok mr. Thinking about you, Jeff 426 Ontario Can. 🙏
Good afternoon sir I have an antenna question. I'm building a 2 element yagi and I know you have built several, I was wandering if I need to use a rfi choke cable since I am direct feed to driven element?
How is it size wise compared to the Lincoln II+? given the power setting and mic gain feature, i think i prefer the Lincoln II+ but the NRC feature does have me interested. I was going to buy one until your video when i realized that there no variable power on the face of the radio.
variable power is there, you just have to be keyed-up to access it. the radio is a little wider than the Lincoln II, but not as deep from front to back.
@MowerJunkie right on. Thank you for the info. I prefer the old style of simply turning the variable. Much safer in my opinion when setting it to run an Amp.
@@Tinman386wisconsin in the menu you can limit the output power, it has 2 settings, one will limit it to 4 watts AM, and 12 watts SSB. the other setting is 10 watts AM and 30 on SSB.
Ok now how do you modify it to go on 11 meters which is what it was really made for so it could skirt the rules. You’d have to be a real Grade A LID to get this as a ham operator.
I don't think any manufacturer should rehash the name of previous products specialy the late 70's classic Washington Base. To name that piece of junk the same is sad.
Any of these "10 meter radios" that has a channel number is a CB . No need for that outside of CB LOL.The radio looks nicer than I thought It'd be. Although they should have gave it a different name.
bro your building up a nice collection !! fyi mower junkie can u do a video on the BT mic with the QT80 i hear it works on that as well thinking about getting one for it.
Sorry not been watching your channel for a while, just been DXING, and life, lovingly the new President Washington. 73s ALAN 💯🇬🇧🇺🇲🍻👍
Power limitation: OF is maximum power, A4 is 4 watts, A0 is 10w
Thanks for the info! This is why UA-cam is great!

It is also a portable repeater. The relay mode and offset/split modes are for that.
Just heard you on channel 37 or 38 lsb. Sounded great! 73's NF 1053 Newfoundland, Canada waving!!
Awesome! Thanks for the report. I was just on 37 + 38 using this radio. Take care 1053, 73's from 151 SC.
@@MowerJunkie I tried calling out for ya but there was a traffic jam 😆 🤣
I’m thinking about getting a President Washington soon and get back into DX which I haven’t done since 1989 with my 1st generation President Lincoln.

Hi Jeff, We had a lot of rain and wind, but no damage. Thanks for thinking about us, 73's
When i tell them washington mobile they usually think I'm nuts and ask how I made it fit
🤣🤣!!
These new radios are becoming like newer SUVs. They all look alike.
I call out on 28.380 USB somewhat frequently.
Congrats on the radio who send it jobi or mark. Have fun playing with it.
If you do the 11 meter conversion , can you still use the 10 & 12 meter bands?
Hope you are all safe and well after the hurricane, take care.
Thanks, We got lucky, My area didn't get hit to hard.
Great Job!
Thank You :)
6 pin,mic.

Hi Barbara
Good afternoon sir I have an antenna question. I'm building a 2 element yagi and I know you have built several, I was wandering if I need to use a rfi choke cable since I am direct feed to driven element?
Try it first without one, But if your CB causes interference on other electronics in your house, you'll need a balun, or choke.
@MowerJunkie thank you for the advice I appreciate it
a old school washington would of had 1 pound of noise.

Super looking good
Are you ok?
I'm doing very well, Just been busy. Thanks for asking, 73's
What kind of antenna can you use for a mobile?
What kind of vehicle do you want to use it on?

I agree, it should have had a different name, But they did a good job with this radio, I think it's a lot better than the Lincoln II.
