Graham, your love of history as well as philately are in perfect harmony. You have made philatelists feel that we’re really on to something!
So cool to see an envelope from Kyrgyzstan, my motherland, in your video 😁
I have quite a few stamps from Kyrgyzstan recently, some really beautiful ones that I should share at some point. :)
Thanks for the shout-out! I am really liking the style of your videos, keep it up and can’t wait until the next one!
You are very welcome, Mallard! Please keep doing what you are doing, I'm thoroughly enjoy your vids! 😊
Hey mallard!
Excellent work, Graham. Hope to see you at StampEx.
Always love your videos! The information about the Hadley Airfield was fantastic history. It is always interesting how these tiny stamps capture a moment in time and they are just waiting for someone to discover it again. Looking forward to seeing more!
It is a great honor to be mentioned by my favorite UA-camr. Thanks Graham and great video as always!
"Only connect"... : )
+ subscribed. Your (UK) "Decimal Day" video is excellent: better coverage of the 1971 Postal Strike in passing than almost any of the mainstream sources, thanks!
My pleasure! Thank you for contributing to online philately 😊
That video IS excellent, I learned a lot!
@@ExploringStamps Not that I stopped with that vid, mind you...
There had been a temptation to send you over some (1971 UK) Postal Strike material for a possible timely nod to that, but I didn't get organised and I'd've been way more scattergun than Richard's concise approach. : )
(Do you have a list of definite/possible projects hanging around somewhere, which could also be good encouragement for us to contribute more, if desired...? ; )
I'm honoured and glad to be mentioned in the video! 🙂 Thank you. A great video, as always.
Loving your Instagram account! Keep it up, Prathamesh :)
Another great epis. You have lots of charisma...another reason why your blog is successful...
Thank you Roger. Well, you don't see everything I edit out of the video 😂... Thanks for watching!
History in our backyard ! That really is amazing! I love that about stamps they are ,or were, acessible to everyone and lead us in our own history.
It really is amazing!! They have documented our history perfectly over the last 180+ years :) Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the AP shout-out, Graham!
You are very welcome, Susanna :)
Excellent as always, I love how you demonstrate the coolness of studying local philately, at the same time showing us an actual rabbit hole that you experienced...WHILE teaching us something and promoting the hobby. You have a talent!
You are too kind 😊. Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!
Greetings and best regards As always Fantastic presentation full of information and knowledge it’s a great pleasure to watch your videos 😍
I too love having coffee ☕️ besides my philatelic work❤️U have taken philately to new heights thanks 😊 for producing such amazing philatelic content for us 😍👍😍😊
☕️ Coffee goes very well with philately... uh, unless you spill it 😅. Glad you are enjoying the videos, thank you so much for watching!!
so you was Frozen in time of snow and ice nice to see your back and safe sound Stamp informative
Yes I'm thawing out of the frozen tundra 😅. More videos to come! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the shout out. I'm all registered at StampEx and also encourage everybody to attend. It's a great opportunity to check out some great talks, even those you might not think to go to when attending. And then just lurking in the various booth and chat rooms is great to learn who's who, and what's what. And contribute to the conversation, too! A fun time.
Thank you Bob! Glad that you are have registered, and I'm sure that I will see you there. Thanks for watching 😊
I love it when you said by todays standard was better :) ha ha...your right
Making up a little collection of covers/cards where the "old" postal service was quicker than the current one is a fun little sideline. It's surprising how far back in history that can go... ; )
Postal services NEEDED to be as quick as possible for commercial reasons much more than nowadays.
Right?! LOL today we emphasize the snail in snail mail. Thanks for watching :)
Mystery solved -- finding that stone marker must have felt deeply rewarding. Those are some impressive detective skills. And what's cool about this episode is if someone who isn't a stamp collector stumbles across it, they'll come away understanding that #philately can be a fun and exciting experience.
It's been a month and a half since this little discovery, and I still get excited when I drive past the Holiday Inn or get my groceries at the Hadley Center. Thank you as always for your support 😊
Graham, another great video. I see Laura is still cleaning up and keeping you focused when you make #philately videos! The research rabbit holes are definitely a challenge since you can spend hours on line and in books exploring related topics. However, the rabbit holes can create brand new opportunities for the collector. When I was doing research on the Graf Zeppelin flights I found discussions on revenue from air mail on the zeppelins. That sideline actually lead to a 4 frame exhibit on Airships as Big Business.
A fine example why we should all embrace the rabbit holes!! You never know where they may take you, seriously!! Thank you Leslie, glad you enjoyed the episode 😊
Yes! I plan to be at Stampex this month!
Julie in Newport News VA
Another great video! Folks wanting to do research should check out their local library. Libraries throughout my state (Mississippi!) have access to a lot of research resources that users can access from home. Other states provide similar services.
Thank you Deborah :). Yes! That is a great call out, libraries also can carry stamp catalogues that you can reference rather than making the expensive purchase.
Loving the snow shots of the shops,Its not pointless its beautiful 😁
Great! I guess I will do more local shots of my town 😅
I love Learning with this awesome channel!
Happy to hear that! Thanks for watching 😊
I used to live in Plainfield like 50 some odd year ago , thank you for breathing life into this hobby
You are very welcome! 50 years ago, you might have seen the airfield. Glad you are enjoying the channel :)
Fountain pens are another addicting hobby like stamps! Interesting video about lost airfields, there are more out there than we realize. You should do a video about old post offices as sometimes the building gets converted into something else. The old one in my town that has a WPA mural, was converted to a restaurant. I’m sure there are more like that with interesting features.
Hi Graham..I am very happy, I noticed two seconds of film of this épisode (18mn18s to 20s ) where we see the stamps of the letter I sent you....that's nice it will also have served in the trailer for the presentation of letters you receved ..I am glad of that..!!! Keep on doing good..!
🙌. Thank you for sending my way, happy to include it in the video. Reply coming soon! Thanks - Graham
@@ExploringStamps hello I got very interested in stamp .looking at your video and started collecting stamps but I can't get anyone to send me some. But I will like to know about a stamp from guyana $20 Egyptian gouse stamp .can you tell me something about it my name is Raymond
Hello, Graham! Another great video as always. I haven't done anything local with collecting yet, but I would like to start a project involving closed post offices in my native Pennsylvania. My grandfather and I went to a tiny post office that closed a few years ago (West Lebanon). I have many a postmark from there (and even more memories!). So I think it would be fun to start on similar places and learn about the locations and histories of them. Also, great coffee choice. Dunkin is my favorite! ☕
Thank you Phil! That is a project that I approve of, mapping out the discontinued post offices of your state through postmarks and covers would be such an interesting activity. Glad you like the coffee choice, Exploring Stamps runs on Dunkin! ☕️😂
Another great vlog from you, really loved it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you 😊 glad you enjoyed it!
I remember hearing something about early cross country flight used big illuminated arrows spaced across the ground. It allowed the pilots to look down and visually see their "path".
I think that is correct! Can you imagine the pilot relying on seeing lights from the ground, a little bit of low cloud and you could be on a different course! 😅
Love your videos, very helpful for some of my own collection.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching Sean :)
Hi Graham love your Videos always interesting and inspiring so much so my collecting has been reignited look forward to many more videos in the future.
Thanks for sharing the links to the other UA-cam channels.
Drones and stamps! literally my two main hobbies.
You. Have. Excellent. Taste. In. Hobbies.
Super interesting to learn some fun history about a place we used to visit for drinks often :)
Glad you enjoyed it Ian. 😅 Brick House Tavern briefly makes a cameo!!
Thanks for video and pointing out on Stampex. Have registered for visit!
Excellent! Looking forward to seeing you there 😊
Great weekend video from us
Glad you enjoyed it. 👍
I love your video 'cause I feel really cosy atmosphere!
Good luck with your creative work and I say hello from Russia 👍🏿
Thank you so much 😀. Glad you are enjoying the channel Mike, thanks for watching.
Registered for Stampex!! Thanks for letting me know.
Excellent! I will see you there!
Another wonderful video! Being ex air force I am always interested in old airfields and old planes. I also love to collect flown covers. That covid set from the Isle of Man looks fab, and is another set I have to get for my pandemic theme collection. On another note, Philatelists certainly do run on coffee, thanks for mentioning my ko-fi, very kind of you.
Thank you John! Glad you enjoyed it, your support and encouragement means a lot. Writing this as I sip more coffee 😅
Love your content. You got me back into stamp collecting. After a 20+ year break in hobby.
Thank you for watching Daniel, great to see you enjoying the channel, welcome back to the hobby 😊
Finally glad I get a chance to catch up on these videos.... boy have I missed this! Cheers!
Glad that the dogsled mail reached you before Christmas. Happily surprised to see it made your video. Another great video! Thanks for the hard work!
Superb video! Thank you!
Thank you 😊
I also Signed up for Stampex ! Love the videos keep it up !
Awesome Caleb! I will see you there :)
I feel like you opened a can of warms when asking about fountain pens. I could talk about pens all day.
I think people underestimate the difference that a good pen can make. 🖋
you have no idea...
I use vellum and parchment for correspondence. a fountain pen, yes, but also goose quill and metal-nib pens. there's something about the scratching on parchment of a pen laying down glistening black ink on the envelope, the dry, "smooth scraping" sound as I insert the letter and then holding a "packet" in my hand that has always mesmerised me, even when i was a little boy writing to my Grandmother. then I open a tin and rummage through it to find a suitable postage stamp...
this just goes on and on... 😄
@@STScott-qo4pw Absolutly!
@@STScott-qo4pw where do you buy parchment? I know thet here in France, there is only one parchment producer and it's very expensive of course.
I've missed your episodes so glad you had time to make this. I find each one interesting. You need to take the credit for bringing me back to stamp collecting. Thank You!
Thank you 😊. Glad you are back in the hobby and enjoying philately. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the heads up for Stampex. All registered! I already enjoy Mallard and Ted and look forward to checking out Richard Philatelist and Bob Collects Stamps. Once again you have put together a great presentation... hope your next one is sooner, not later, :)
You are very welcome, glad you are signed up for Stampex and enjoying the other philatelic content online! More to come :)
I have only just got back to stamp collecting because of you, I love your content it keeps me going
Graham, great video. I enjoyed it very much. As usual, you make great videos, and this was no exception. I used a fountain pen like you showed on that video back in the' 70's They are really nice. I'll try to watch the stampex show. It is allready written in my calendar. Til your next video. David
Thank you David!, Great to see that you will be at Stampex, it's going to be another great event :)
@@ExploringStamps I am waiting for it. with impatience.
Great video as usual, top production values and great content. Unfortunately this message was not carried by dogsled but was sent by UA-cam. The £10 Britannia stamp issued by the Royal Mail in 1993 is another braille stamp if you're interested. Cheers
Those £10 Britannias are gorgeous: foil, microprinting + special UV fibre paper, too.
Braille makes a good theme. : )
Loll, Well it might not be via dogsled, but I will gladly accept it :). I didnt know about this stamp, thank you for pointing it out, very interesting, thank you!!
9:30
😆 this happens to me very frequently when researching not just philately but a variety of different subjects!
Embrace the rabbit hole!! 😅
Love learning things here Great video dude. I have an acquired collection i belive I'm lucky to have. Don't know much of stamps apart from what i learn here. Stupid lock down is stopping me getting my collection looked at
Thank you Andrew, glad that you are enjoying the channel :)
I know you can't tell from pictures but was going to ask if by any chance i could send a couple pictures and if possible could you share an opinion on if they are worth taking to a specialist. I have over 1280 pictures in my phone of pages and pages of stamps lol. Any help would be amazing thnks
Great video!!
Thank you Juan 🙂
Awesome video as usual.
Thank you James 😊
The tux is amazing!
Excellent production values as ever, Graham, and a wonderful piece of local history... : )
How long did it take you to recover from last Stampex: thought you were the social hub!
(Loved the dogsled mail, btw - postal history story to be told there - rather longer distance than my own local sleddog-carried service linking with the UK's Royal Mail.)
Thank you!! I'm still recovering from STAMPEX, lol. It took a couple of weeks to get back in to my time zone. Thanks for watching!
@@ExploringStamps I couldn't believe you were still there every time I checked back at your booth...
Keep up the great work! : )
It was neat seeing that you got a letter from San Clemente, one of the Channel Islands of California. Avalon, on Santa Catalina Island, has a great pictorial postmark. I'll try to drop you a card from there so you can see it.
Cool, Doraemon stamps!
They are cool! 😎
You should have been able to find out about old airports by referencing the local register of deeds. These should also be online but how far back it goes depends on the location.
Online Stampex will be nice But always Old is Gold.....
Don't Forget that....
(I mean The Stamp Exhibition where we visit it and see all the stamps live.........)
Totally agree, cant wait to attend in person again 😊
Merci pour cette vidéo! 😻👍
i have received email to register and done that already too :-)
Excellent!! See you there!
during the canadian postal strike there were some local post companies delivering boxes and mail with their stamps. at least one of the later local post incidents
OMG! A Cross Pen? No way! That's so expensive!! It's a luxurious pen!! I'm using Parker Pen which is also luxury pen. Does it had a gold nib?
Lol thanks Julian, I don't think this one has a gold nib, but it certainly is fancy :) Thanks for watching!
@@ExploringStamps on the nib, it should have mark 14k or 18k (or others, that should have mark), sometimes it has 750 that means 18k.
I paused this video multiple times to take action! Register for Stampex, check out a particular site, subscribe to a UA-camr... I love this format of video :)
☺️ thank you Isabelle
Lol sorry about that Graham - must have been writing other letters. Chris Sahar
Hahaha No problem Chris! I figured that. You had my name on the address just not the card, lol! Thanks for the postcard, yours will be in the mail on Monday.
Very interesting how everything is changing. Regarding the airfield: We have nearby something similar, an airfiled which existed only between 1910 - 1914 in Puchheim near Munich. I haven´t met anyone knowing the fact, that there existed an airfield. But it was not for postal delivery, it was just for fun. With the beginning of WW 1 they closed the airfield. Today you can play tennis, go to the beergarden and you have other sports facilitys and you don´t see anything from the airfield, like in your video with the Hadley airfield. They arranged shows there with up to 20.000 visitors in the four years it existed. All gone and even when you search the internet you find not much. Ich have a link where you can find a view of the airport from an old postcard on the right side (Text: Ansichtskarte vom Puchheimer Flugplatz und Umgebung): de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puchheim. I like such forgotten places and the two letters you presented were really wonderful. Post from a different time.
Isn't that incredible? The fact that something could exist like your airfield that attracts a crowd of 20,000 visitors, and now there is no evidence of it and it is completely forgotten. Wow. Thank you for sharing that Oliver, it proves that there are many of these forgotten airfields and other lost landmarks out there. 😊
the us air cover with the .10 monroe - from the look of the cover i think it's a laid paper. FWIW.
Awesome
😊
I hope you recieve my letter soon
Looking forward to it :)
34:31 I hope you called your mom!
Yes I did!! To-do list complete 😅
I did know that!
Oh no I am late
Oh no! Dont worry, the video is still here for you :)
What is the largest Canadian Stamp?
I'm driving myself insane looking for a video you made that was talking about zeplin stamps. You say you think they'd be rare but they aren't. It wasn't the video focusing on those stamps either... I feel like it was this video but I can't find it again.
Hmm, the only zep video I did was from season 3. Are you sure that you aren’t thinking of a different channel, maybe Mallard or Ted?
No it was you. And it wasn't focused on that. You mentioned it for less than 1 min but it caught my attention. Maybe a random mail call video..well your views on most vids are gonna go up by one until I find it.
🤔 I’ll keep thinking as well, I’d guess it was a mail episode. 😅 yes please keep the views coming and let me know if you find it!
Found it! It's the covers video.
Do you edit your videos yourself?
Yes I do.
