Back in my country in Nepal, as a child I used to collect stamps knowingly/unknowingly after finding a notebook full of pasted stamps from various countries. It grew as hobby and I expanded it organically to few more notebooks without purchasing single stamps (had no idea as well). Gazing through the window of stamp world is totally different experience (kindda euphoric and therapeutic) and was a lot of learning experiences. But, as I grew couldn't continue it (life challenges) and didn't know how to organise it, make album system, postage articles and source the stamps. Last couple of months, I am stuck here in Sydney,Australia now midst of COVID Pandemic, nothing to do reminded my childhood hobby, Philately and searched in google, looked through all the countries stamps that I wanted in my random stamp collection and wondered myself again. And then, 2 days back, why not in UA-cam. Wow, I got your video titled "Inherited stamp collection?". It was like my childhood reminiscence. Explored my paused hobby through your collection and videos. Just finished doing video marathon of all seasons to catch up. Finding your channel was like finding my lost childhood memories. Keep inspiring and create great content as you do.
Glad you found the channel! Thank you for sharing this, a very similar story to myself! I looked online to find sites and information that captured the excitement and global interest that I had as a child, but to no luck. That the reason I started the channel. Welcome 😊! (and thank you for binge watching the seasons!)
I love stamps - the big difficulty is deciding what to collect and what to ignore. I love the British Colonial era and am building this group. I started collecting in 1936 . There are too many stamps to collect a representative collection so I have established a cut off date. To me Queen Victorian stamps allow me to collect a wide variety of historically interesting stamps without getting unhappy about not being able to fill out an era.
If you only knew how much money I spend cuz of you and your videod New video from Exploring Stamps? Great here goes my salaray.. You ReStarted my hobby. Thanks Graham

Thanks Lisa! Yes the church stamps are quite something, they seem to have issued them over the last several years, most that I have are in the snow....quite cool!
I just inherited a stamp collection and wanted to learn more about it. I was surprised when I discovered you made a video about the place where I'm from!
Visually enchanting episode. Also, some interesting countries that issue more stamps for external than internal purposes such as Iceland and Greenland. You always seem to include captivating images, such as animals coming alive in stamps, that helps to make stamps more interesting for new collectors. Keep them coming!
Hello Graham! Now you are teaching Geography! Amazing video and so informative. Now I want to explore Åland, and go there. I guess, see you there, Alligator!
Thank you a lot Graham, for telling that there is a thing named C.T.O., because I purchased a bundle of stamps where I found a postmark and it also had some gum on the back of the stamp. At first, I used to think that it is a fake stamp, and I could not show it up in my stock book. But now, I can put that in the stock book. Thanks again. 😊😊😊
Thanks again for another great informative episode! Would like to visit Aland one day, maybe this will be the instigation to start planning. The world is a wonderful place and there is a lot to explore!
Very interesting video about a region I never heard of. Sepac seems like a good way to learn about small entities that issue stamps mainly for collectors.
Another great video. I have spoken to people on Ăland through amateur radio. I didnt realise there would be so much to be learnt from one stamp. Also the way you animated those stamps was great. Must have taken a lot of time. Very well done

Thank you! I really enjoyed the video!! I've been a collector of Aland stamps since 1991, and I've enjoyed the stamps immensely. Got started as part of a Scandinavian collection and the maternal side of my family is from Finland.
Oh excellent, a collector of Aland is watching!🙌. So happy to see that you enjoyed the episode, I can see how you naturally picked up Aland as you have roots in Finland 🇫🇮😊. Thanks for watching!
I got an Aland postcard a few weeks ago from Postcrossing. I was pretty confused when I saw it cause I never heard any country call Aland island. Stamp really helps me getting new knowledge lol.
Aland as you mentioned became a part of Finland in 1921 as a result of a League of Nations decision. It was one of the first League of Nations decisions and was settled successfully, unlike what would occur later with China, Ethiopia and cases of aggression. Aland also figured in the Soviet-Finnish war in 1939. The Soviet Union wanted the Aland Islands as a naval base. Aland has to be unfortified by the terms of the League of Nations agreement. So it would have been a violation of the treaty terms, but by that time World War 2 had already broken out, so it was academic. I think postal history of Aland would be interesting, recent ones would be covers where the stamp was issued only for use in one area, but the stamps were used on cover outside that area.
Interesting! As you bring up, I kept finding articles and comments referring to Aland as a rare success story from the League of Nations and in regards to its current situation, it certainly has a fascinating history. Thank you for sharing! 😊

Excellent presentation, well-researched and informative! I don't think I'll become a big Åland collector though and I doubt their justification for issuing so many stamps, besides producing stuff for collectors - probably one of the areas main sources of income...
Thank you Allan. Yep I hear ya, some collectors will stay far away from Sepac issuing entities for that exact reason, others will love those types of stamps and collect them. Thank you so much for watching, glad you enjoyed it 😊
Many used stamp collectors would prefer a stamp that is not CTO. They're tough to get from Aland, without buying, say, an ounce of kiloware from there. It is expensive kiloware, compared to other areas. I just checked Ebay, they are going for about 25 cents per piece(when you're buying at least a half ounce), and then you might be soaking them.... so, it's a nice area to collect, but more expensive than normal. Every time I find one in a world kiloware lot(very small chance) or in a Scandinavian lot(I've found them in some lots, but not often), it makes me smile. A likely place to get the high denomination stamps, is by finding them in a worldwide lot, as it's collected far away from Aland. So the postage cost was more. But they're rare. High denomination non-CTO used Aland stamps are always sought after.
As usual, great content! I have some stamps from Aland (one with a inverted triangle and they with a shiny pattern for Julpost), all purchased in a philatelic fair in Italy, where I first came into contact with this philately reality. I have been to Finland and they are not selling stamps from Aland, as it really is a separated identity from that point of view. Otherwise also here basically no one knows about those islands. In addition, I didn't know about SEPAC stamps, although I have plenty from the Vatican, Malta and Luxembourg: will look for them in my collection! But why is San Marino not part of this group as well? Greetings from the country with two micro-states within! :D
Åland is always an interesting place, a series of Island owned by 🇫🇮 now yet speak Swedish. Nordic Europe is full of surpises, I never knew about them until a while back when looking up flags of the world. 😁🇦🇽
It sure is an interesting place. When looking up the flag, wikipedia says that it is "the Swedish flag defaced by a red cross symbolizing Finland"... yikes, thats quite something!
Great video Graham. And yes I learnt a lot. Never heard of SEPAC and never seen that on stamps. But that said I mostly collect classic stamps. New stamps are not my game :) I have some stamps from Åland witch I might will sell on Etsy.
Thank you 😊. Glad you enjoyed it and learned something. Aland definitely wont help with your classic stamp interests, but their new ones are certainly beautiful! Definitely get them up on Etsy and you may find some eager buyers 😀
@@ExploringStamps Yes I agree they are beautiful, but I have to set a limit to what I collect. I collect the close to the whole Europa + some other countries I like. So I have to set a stop year! And I collect postal used stamps ......
Hello, I recently found an old stamp collecting book at my parents house with many stamps dating several decades back (50s - 90s). It is originally categorized by origin country rather than year. Is there a way to determine the value of them or whether there are hidden "jems" in the collection? I'm absolutely clueless about stamp collecting but as a card game collector I reckon that condition is super important. All tips are welcome :)
Hi there I am thinking of starting stamp collecting as a hobby. I live in Australia and was wondering where I can buy stamps online and shipping won’t be more than the stamps. Do you know any good websites?
There are a couple great videos on Slania by other philatelic UA-camrs Check out a recent video by Stampcat Stamps, also an earlier one by Ted Talks Stamps 😃

I found a beautiful stamp with error. from Hungary many tell me that she is a super. jewel. and until today. this could be the only one is from the year 1958 flower from Hungary and could be worth a lot
I know the stamps for a long time. If you live in Europe and collecting stamps, you stumble over them. We have several islands in Europe where a lot ofs stamps are coming from. But this is only for getting some money and I have not met many people collecting them active. You have far more in your collection than I have. They are looking nice and they don´t make the mistake like for example Tanzania to show local themes. But to be honest, if you look in Google for the pictures, Aland exists in many small islands with a lot of rocks and some forrest on it. I do not know what is famous coming from there. And I assume, it is nearly the same you can find in Sweden and Finland. I´m not a big fan of such stamp "countries", but nevertheless they fit for beginners or for collectors looking for special topics. And they are quite nice looking. But cancellations on stamps with gum is not my cup of tea... Your video contains 99% of my knowledge of the Aland islands :). Thank you.
Loved the stamp animation
😊🙌. Thanks for noticing the animations!!

I am thinking of starting stamp collecting as a hobby. I live in Australia and was wondering where I can buy stamps online and shipping won’t be more than the stamps. Do you know any good websites?

There are a couple great videos on Slania by other philatelic UA-camrs

I have many old stamps and now I want to sell them. Please let me know who might buy my stamp collection .
Thank you.
