Amazingly, the day after posting this video, Tower Mint released images of the new Pitcairn stamps to be issued. (Incredible timing, I know!). Check out Mark’s blog where he looks at these new stamps and discusses his interest in Pitcairn: philatelicpursuits.wordpress.com/2023/03/23/pitcairn-islands-2023-part-1-mar-2023/
😊 thank you!! It’s amazing what a piece of paper can teach me, I also went down plenty of other rabbit holes that didn’t make it into the video, so many fascinating angles to explore with the Island and the Mutiny. Thanks for watching!!
Once again brilliantly combining culture, history, and philately which shows how relevant a philatelic pursuit can be for those of any age, young or old. Keep up the great work!
😂 well I guess captain Bligh was important to the descendants of the island, had he not been an abusive captain and lost his ship, they wouldn’t be there … thinking about that now, that is quite an unusual reason to be honored on a stamp🤔😂
I am firmly of the opinion that the best stories contain boats, and the story of the Pitcairn Island mutineers did not disappoint. 9/10 on the Kat Boat Story Appreciation Scale
Terrific!! 😊. You are probably right, add a boat to a story and it greatly increases the adventure and excitement. Glad it scored so high on the Kat Boat Story Appreciation scale, wow!! Thanks so much for watching 🤗
Greetings Graham. Such an excellent presentation on this historical island...one of my favorites! Thank you for showcasing it! I've been a huge fan of the history that surrounds Pitcairn. The famous mutiny is what lured me into its story. Hopefully you got chance to check out some of the old videos of the mutineers relatives. Of course, Fletcher Christian's relatives were featured in a few of them. Fun fact, Maurice Bligh, great, great, great grandson of the captains paid a visit to the island in 1971 and became great friends with Christian's great, great, great, grandson, Tom. Tom is the figure featured on the Series Definitive 1977-1981, "The Island's Bell" as he served as the island's radio operator. He was also a key figure in promoting tourism and produce which included the Pitcarin stamps.
Thank you 😊. I did indeed see some of the old (and new) footage of the mutineers' relatives, but I didn't know about Maurice Bligh becoming friends with Tom Christian, amazing!! I'll have to take a closer look at the Island's Bell series, but I did see images of him operating the radio. So many interesting things to look into. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for this excellent presentation of the Pitcairn Islands history through their beautiful stamps/covers. The Pitcairn rabbit hole I traveled down was the 1987 #281-4 modern cargo ship stamps. Im slowly but surely finding these 20th century ships to add to my collection. Again, thank you for your first rate presentation.
Excellent, Graham! When I was a child, I saw a photo of one of the stamps you have shown, with a parrot depicted. Decades later, I was able to buy the set for my collection of British Commonwealth stamps.
Great video, thanks as always for making this! I do think it would make sense for Pitcairn to make a stamp commemorating the ISS, since a lot of the time the astronauts there are closer to Pitcairn island than any non-Pitcairn islander on Earth.
🤯 whoa that’s right!!!! Haha a very good point, they are closer to a space station some of the time than to a major land mass by a LOT of distance. 😆 thanks for that 👏
During my heyday of stamp collecting, I had the entire MNH collection of Pitcairn stamps from 1940 - 2004, sadly I had to sell all of my collections in 2005 due to bad economic times. One thing that I would like to point out was that the "Official" religion of Pitcairn Island was Seventh Day Adventism. Thank you for doing this topic, may I suggest another island country that had a low yearly issue rate: Christmas Island.
Oh wow a full mint collection is quite something, even if you no longer have the collection it is still an impressive achievement to be proud of 👏. Yes Christmas Island is something I know just a little bit about, but would love to explore in more detail soon. Thanks so much 😊
Wow, a very good episode that had me hooked from start to finish! I only have one of two Pitcairn stamps but that may change now after knowing the history. Thank you Graham.
😊 Thanks Kees! Yes absolutely, I only had a few Pitcairn stamps when I began researching the topic, then I just HAD to get more with covers as I found it SO interesting, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
The Pitcairn Islands has a fascinating history along with their postage stamps You did a stunning job to bring forward the history of the Pitcairn islands to us👏👏 I did a bit of research too and found out that *Pitcairn issued a stamp in 1957 which descripted that the Pitcairn School was shown, but the picture was incorrect.😅 The stamp was reprinted the following year, with a change in the description to correctly identify the picture as school-teacher’s house* :) I'll definitely get started to collect The Pitcairn Stamps ; they are too beautiful, I dont think after watching this episode anyone can refuse to collect Pitcairn stamps
Oh excellent! I was excited to find several Pitcairn stamps in my collection while I was researching the topic, glad you have some as well. Thank you for watching 😊
Another interesting episode. I'm pretty sure that the UK also had 'Last Day' covers when we switched to decimal money in 1971. Pre-Decimal stamps expired on 29th Feb 1972.
Wow! did not know much about Pitcairn Island and actually found out I have a few stamps as well. Amazing presentation on history of this Island. Salut!

Such an amazing episode about a very interesting subject! I didn't know anything about Pitcairn Island. And I don't have any of their stamps, but now I want some. I'll keep an eye out next time I browse the books!

Thanks Scott, same here. I think it would take over 4 days of traveling for me to get there (maybe 5)… so I would need over a week of JUST traveling, and I struggle to get a long weekend off at my job 😂
Absolutely fascinating story and piece of history Graham! I think we've all heard of "Mutiny on the Bounty" but I never connected that story with the Pitcairn Islands; I guess I didn't listen to the movie very closely. Amazing how that piece of history created some philatelic gems! Not to mention your own gem of a video! Loved it and thanks.

Vraiment fascinant. Je me suis remis à la philatélie il y a 1 ans. Grâce à cette vidéo, je serai plus avisé si je tombe sur un timbre de Pitcairn Islands ors de mon inventaire. Merci pour cette vidéo. --- Really fascinating. I got back into stamp collecting about 1 year ago. Thanks to this video, I'll be more savvy if I come across a Pitcairn Islands stamp during my inventory. Thank you for this video.
😊 Carl!! So happy to see that you found it interesting. Keep a look out, there are some wonderful Pitcairn stamps out there to collect. Thanks for watching!
very informative and very interesting to listen, this tell how much a stamp can tell about history, sadly Pitchairn Islands is the only place i missing stamps.
Thanks Henrik 😊 Oh definitely keep a look out, I’m sure it won’t be long before you get some epic stamps from this amazing island. Thanks for watching!!
I agree!! Why would they think that I would be interested in only buying royal family on Pitcairn stamps? they are totally missing out on the amazing imagery that this Island has to offer. 👍

Very informative video on Pitcairn Island stamps. I used to buy Pitcairn island stamps through New Zealand Post (I have an account with them) & I had brought some very beautiful Pitcairn island stamps such as Pitcairn's Longboat History stamps (it is a Se-tenant stamp consisting of 5 stamps), Pitcairn Islands Sunsets (set of 6 stamps), a set of 6 stamps on Pitcairn Islands fishes, Pitcairn Islands Digital Globe (set of 4 stamps) etc. Pity that they do not issue any more of these beautiful stamps.
I accidentally got an almost complete collection of Pitcairn Island stamps a few years ago as a result of buying a junk box of stamps from a seller on Ebay who knew nothing about stamps. Several very nice covers were in the box too but my favorite was a post card from the 50’s with a small piece of wood glued to the front and identified as a piece of the Bounty. I did some research and found out that the islanders did glue bits of the wood on postcards from the Bounty for awhile but stopped because they didn’t want to destroy what was left…..apparently not much!

I believe the delay in your order could be related to the Royal Mail ransomeware attack that plagued international mail for awhile. My Guernsey Post order was delayed by over two months.
Yes absolutely! Well, it took them 14 business days since placing the order to actually ship it, according to my emails. This current delay must be Royal Mail, I’m eagerly checking my post box each day! 😆📪 BUT two months for your order is crazy!!
@@ExploringStamps I can relate, I was eagerly waiting for the postman every morning. I was so relieved when my stamp set finally came. Its ashame that the pitcairn islands does not issue island related stamps anymore. It's my biggest fear in stamp collecting. Aruba went through a few years of bad issues but they're on track now a days.
It is a shame! A few folks have told me now that they reached out to Tower Mint and have been promised that topics related to the islands will be issued in the near future, fingers crossed that it happens 🤞
I emailed Tower Mint last year and they assured me that their stamp subject matter would start having Pitcairn related designs. And then the queen died. So I imagine they are mired in British royalty designs for a while longer.
Oh nice!!! Thank you for sharing, let’s see what Tower Mint does for the next issues, I was wondering if we could actually contact them about their stamps. Thanks William! 😊
Hi Graham. A question: Every time I post a comment on this channel and it contains a link, it gets deleted. Hope this is this some kind of anti-spam thing and it's not just me.
Hi Niall, yeah usually the comment goes up for review if it has a link in it, probably because of anti-spam. I don’t see any comments held for review right now, but I’ve noticed that it can take a while to show up for me to approve. Sometimes it might just automatically delete it 🤷🏼♂️

Graham I wanted to ask that is my stamp from the hindenburg rare
HAPPY EASTER TO YOU BOTH. My Easter is the 16th April.
Happy Easter 🐰
I hope you can make a video about Vietnam stamp, there is a service stamp series use weight of grains as currency
I will have to look into it 😊 thanks for watching!!
I don't have a stamp from Pitcairn island but this is interesting 🤔 I wish someone will send me one. 😁 Thank you for this episode
Thank you, Vanessa! 😊 I’m sure you will stumble among Pitcairn stamps soon, they are everywhere. Glad you enjoyed the episode, thanks for watching 😆
Sometimes it might just automatically delete it 🤷🏼♂️
@@ExploringStamps OK, fair enough. I just wanted to show you this cool video made by my friend, Roberto Pires (FILABRAS Brazil) on a totally related topic. Let's hope this reply makes the cut :)

The music is from the great movie "The Bounty" (Mel Gibson) by my favourite composer, Vangelis.
