I know nothing, and just finished setting it up. It is easy, just need to be patient with the led lights to do their thing. My wife was getting around 10-15 Mbps in her study at the end of the hall. I put one in her study and now getting around 180 Mbps. So far, so good. .... Thanks, and be well!
This system is fantastic. I use 5 Decos in a 3500 sq ft home with a 2 car attached garage and a 4 car detached garage. It covers everything and gives me great speeds. Worth the money. Great review!
Thanks man. I was looking into this system, and found a 2 unit system at walmart right at my price point. I appreciate the review, and this increases my confidence this may be a good choice. I'm currently using a wifi repeater and it's garbage. These speeds look very hopeful for me, especially considering I'm getting 20 mbps down now.
That’s a good idea you have about units having separate SSID for the 2.4ghz and 5ghz, hope they can issue an update which would add this functionality, and like you, after several hours I also had no luck connecting these units together with Ethernet cables, very frustrating indeed. Just one point, I’m in the U.K. and I’m finding I don’t get as much coverage as you guys in the USA, perhaps I have some interference issues, perhaps it’s because my house is a stone/brick build and I think you guys have predominantly timber frame construction , but I find I need 2 units on each floor to get full coverage and then my results are more akin to yours. Thanks for the upload !
I upgrade from a Archer ac1900 and just bought the Deco M4 (3 pack) from Samsclub for $130 plus $15 for 3 year warranty. I'm not very techie but not a novice either and setting was straight forward per instructions. I have all three router up and running less than 30 minutes. I have 2400 sq ft home and this mesh system cover very well currently with no dead spot. My provider is at 150mbps ISP connection and I'm getting 135 to 140mbps with wired to my pc and my iphone x is getting around 50mbps to 80mbps wireless wifi depending on the location I'm at in the house. TBH, 50mbps is more than enough to run anything up to 20 connected devices with no lags in the house because I use to have that speed constantly with my Archer ac1900 and experience no problems. When my extended family visit and I have over 30+ device connected, I have no issues with the Archer ac1900 also for over 6 years. So all in all, this Deco M4 is an upgrade and it is over kill in speed for normal home use. The best part is tplink give a 2 year warranty and I bought an extra 3 year totaling 5 years of warranty from square trade. It should pay for itself in 5 year and I will upgrade to AX at that time.
Nice video. They must have fixed the backhaul problem since the video was made. Was very simple here as I just connected the two units via an ethernet cable and they were linked. You can see an "s" shaped wire in between the two units in the App vs the wifi arcs. Lovin the units as they work very well.
Great video and thanks for sharing. I live in a rural part of France and envy your high speeds. I miss my direct fiber connection in the US. Thanks to your review, I just ordered this system as my Huawei cellular router is not strong enough for my house. I’ll receive the system in a few days and use your recommendations to set it up. Thanks again for the great video.
I had been looking into a Mesh system but don't want to spend the $300+ for one of those other "popular" systems. And now with Covid and working from home, I would like to spend these nicer days out on the back deck and work. This looks like it just might be the thing! I just wish you were able to get the Ethernet Backhaul to work though....
I bought this for my house and I’m confused if I made the right purchase for my internet provider. I have att&t and I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of wifi I have but I’m not that tech savvy. I need help
Does Deco M4 has WISP mode or something like WISP mode? (WISP router mode is simply a mode where your wireless adapter acts as both client and WAN port. In another words, you get to connect to another wireless network, use only one IP address they assign to you (and route internet (or whatever) to it), and route traffic to your local (home/private) network - NAT.?
I have problem with playing playstation online. Is it possible I put one of them near ps4 and connect it with cable to the ps4. My router is just downstairs. Plz help
Would you say this product is still relevant today or there's another at a similar price range you think I should get? Currently have 3 Nova MW3 but they cap mbps to 100 only... Was cheap and my first mesh WiFi. Now time to upgrade
I added Ethernet back haul using powerline adapters TL-PA8081P KIT and doubled the wifi speed from the satellite node. Both nodes are about the same speed. Would have been better with cables
I looked into this but the device limit was a bit concerning for an IoT addict. Your setup is interesting and I wish you'd do a more in depth video on that!
I don’t understand what’s going on with the new routers that we need extenders and etc, I can connect to wifi routers 2 houses away from mine, not sure who needs these things. Anyone?
It's a full wifi router. It can be used as either an actual wifi router to replace your existing router or it can be used as an access point (add-on) for your existing modem/gateway.
@@thedefault2322 you still have to purchase a subscription from an internet service provider, you just use one of these instead of the router that your ISP gives you
Thanks for the video. One question - what speed test AP where you using? Also, I've heard about ISP's throttling speeds so you don't get your full speed. Do you know anything about this? Can you tell us what to do to keep it from slowing us down? Thanks again.
Just thinking of buying this mesh wifi router as the price is not really bad. I’m not tech savy person so here’s my dumb question. My router is currently setup in the basement and i have connected it to a DLink switch. In my living room i have an ethernet port. Can i connect the main deco router through the ethernet port in the living instead of connecting it to the main router in the basement?
Does anyone know if I have ethernet ports in the wall around the house, can I plug each of the nodes into those ports or do they have to connect to each other wirelessly once one of them is wired to the router?
Hey man awesome job very very helpful, I have a question. I have my ISP modem and a nigthawk x6 s router. Can I add that mesh to my home network connecting the mesh to my ISP modem or to the router? Thanks.
Sorry to ask but how good is this? I own a 130mb fiber connection which by using a regular TP-Link AC750 Universal Dual Band Range Extender gets around 30-50 Mbps to the Living Room. The distance of the Living Room from the VM Router is roughly 9-13m. (On Ground Level while the Router is on Level 1) Do you think a system like this will give me at least 100mpb at that point or will i still have an issue with it?
Do i need an ethernet for each individual router? As in would I have to buy ethernet cables for each of the routers and then wall socket to ethernet adapters in order to connect them to the mesh network? Or do I only need to connect each router that to power?
As for me Deco M4 did not work since it is very slow. My pldt fiber is 100Mbps while Deco M4 directly connected through cable reada only 10-15 Mbps or even less. For 6 months until now it is not working,,,very hard to get technical assistance
When I hard wired the system to my modem, the instructions say unplug the modem and connect the cable to the mesh tower and the modem and re plug.... That didn't work after 2 hours I disconnected and then plug my modem back in and then used the Ethernet cable to connect mesh to modem ... worked better
Great review! I’m actually looking into replacing my ISP’s router and a 3rd party extender with a mesh setup in our house. How do you feel about the Deco vs Google Wifi?
If I get 950 up and down from fios and I hardwire my pc to the tp link which is hardwired to the main tp link which is hardwired to the modem, will I get full 950 or just 867?
Can I assign different SSID for 2.4 and 5 ghz? I have a gaming laptop and I want it to connect on 5ghz so that all other devices in my home remain at 2.4 ghz
Very good observations, you mentioned the AP mode, could you go over that in more detail? How many units can you add to this? I'm looking at a 25K square feet property, just simple country home.
Can i plug this into an ethernet running to the otherside of my house to provide wifi to that end of the house? I currently have a tp-link 5 port splitter ran to the other side of my house for tv and xbox and would like to plug this into that to provide me with wireless connection on that end of the house
