Wifi Signals do travel downwards better than upwards, so the higher the modem the better wifi signal/speed you can get on the same level where the router is located.

Sorry to ask but how good is this? I own a 130mb fiber connection which by using a regular TP-Link AC750 Universal Dual Band Range Extender gets around 30-50 Mbps to the Living Room. The distance of the Living Room from the VM Router is roughly 9-13m. (On Ground Level while the Router is on Level 1) Do you think a system like this will give me at least 100mpb at that point or will i still have an issue with it?

I had a bad experience with these last week and they went back to the supplier after a few days. I upgraded the firmware immediately after setting them up and they looked fine at first. However despite the fact that I'd connected the second unit via Ethernet backhaul (after setting them all up wirelessly) they kept going from "Strong signal" to "Disconnected". The second unit (not the one furthest from the base) kept flashing a red light. They did this several times and, despite there being three of them, proved much less reliable than the two Google Wifi units they were to replace. I'm now back to Google Wifi. Yes, the Google units devices disconnect occasionally when I go to the limits of the wireless signal, but the units don't disconnect from each other, so they do fulfil the basic function of a mesh system.

Thanks for the review. This was incredibly helpful. Even with 3 nodes I would gain 16x the speed I currently have, so I'm happy with that. Walmart seems to have a 2 pack for less money if anyone is interested. Not everyone needs a 3rd unit, so for $90, I'd say its a great deal!

I bought this the other day and have it installed in a 3200sq/ft home with three levels plus basement. I have four kids plus me and a tenant on the mesh. The master deco is installed in the middle of the home 2nd flr and of course ethernet wired to my wifi router. The 2nd deco is ethernet attached to wifi router and installed on main floor near front of home. The third unit is installed in first flr dining room area near rear of home not ethernet attached so relies on the wifi uplink to the master deco on 2nd flr. Last scan shows nearly 40 devices including amazon sticks, 6 wyze cams, laptops, chromebooks, thermostats smartphones, xbox’s etc. My Internet is FIOS 100Mbps pkg. This appears to be a robust system even for the wifi clients connecting through the third non ethernet attached deco. I will know more once Kids return to remote learning and 3-5 zoom and webex sessions. I had previously been running 2 wifi routers on opposite ends of the house in bridge mode but the performance was perceptibly less than the new deco mesh. Most likely due to the MU-MIMO feature of the newer unit. Overall very happy so far.

8:00 - Over 100MBps, both ways, isn't bad. Lol. And it's doing all this with no wires. That is crazy good. Lol. This is also highly dependent with where you have each of the units placed.
I set some up yesterday and they got near the same speeds they would get when wired up but, they were also probably placed better to keep that connection speed high.

About your Complain with the low speed via Wifi mode: Its because they basically act like Wifi Repeaters when the connect to each other. Because of that Bandwith between each "Hop" is cut in half, like with a repeater, thats just the Nature of Wifi. Hope its understandable. So there is nothing you (or TPLink) can do about that, except for better Chipset with overall higher throughput which then also gets cut in half again. Thats just for clarification, not that i think u dont know that, but if thats the case, then now u do lol. Have a nice Day Jason and as always --> Nice Video :)

the major drop on the wifi backhaul is because the m4 deco's are only dual band, so instead of a third dedicated 5ghz backhaul like the m9 and orbi and google wifi and various other mesh wifi systems, it's sharing the 5ghz network with all the devices connected to it, which shows the issue

Yes using the wifi back haul slows things down obviously.
But if you don't have an ehtenet cable in that corner of your house the choice would be: slow internet or no internet at all. Still an easy choice right? But if ultimate speed without ethernet is what you're after you probably would buy the Deco M9 anyway with its dedicated 5GHz back haul capabilities.

My C5400 wifi started going out (it will still broadcast my network but I cannot connect to the wifi; rebooting would temporarily solve the problem; this also happened to my previous router). I was going to buy a pair of Wireless Access Points but then I ran into these Deco M4s on a sale page in my e-mail. I checked them out and the 3-pack would be less expensive than the 2 WAPs I was going to buy. I liked the one SSID for both 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz albeit you cannot choose which one you are on (you could on the C5400). For my house, coverage seems great, through put is good (two of the Decos are ethernet backhauled, the 3rd is not), and I'm pretty happy with them thus far. Time will tell.

YES you can do it, the way I did it !! In my 3 floors multihouse, I have a router and an Tp-link access point, for all over coverage, but it had a few coverage holes. So I bought yesterday 2 pairs (4pieces) of these Deco M4 (the m4's is gigabit transfer) and attach one of them at the router at center of building in 2nd floor and another piece of it at bedrooms area and synchronized succesfully. Then I put at below floor 1 at center area and another at bedrooms, who both were synchronized automatically to the above "intranet mesh" . DO NOT FORGET when the installation application asks for area coverage, to choose 1 OR 2 floors.. This probably changes the transmitting force !! Results ?? ... All the building is NOW fully covered conveniently !! As for the networks?? I NOW have 2 networks 2,4 and 5Ghz directly from the router, and one (1) network named by me transmitting by the 4 boxes of Deco M4... and finally another network, coming from the old Tp-link access point !! Thinking that the OLD system isn't necessary anymore, I removed that OLD access point and the networks remained 3 now and so if I then close the router Wi-Fi transmit of the router, I will then have only, the one network, that is made up by the TP-Link Deco M4 Whole Home Mesh WiFi System (4 pieces in total) and named by me. Finally am happy that I bought them, cause they proved they really work !! I hope I will work for you also...

For most people a strong consistent signal is more important than absolute speed. Most people want consistent web browsing and streaming on their remote devices. I absolutely never move gigantic files from one computer to and, and if I did want to do that a usb drive would be my method of choice. I use an Orbi mesh system and get at least 100 Mbps everywhere, and that is just fine. I have connected one computer directly with Ethernet and get 500 Mbps and can't tell the difference between 500 Mbps and 200 Mbps that I get over WiFi in that location

hi; thanks for the ellaborate review. I have a few questions with your permission regarding ethernet backhauling:
if I understand currectly I can hook up all 3 decos with ehternet connection in order to improve covarage and avoid bunny hopping. what I am missing is the technique of how to achieve it. I noticed form the vid that there are 2 ethernet ports on each deco, I assume one is "in" and one is "out". in order to achieve the backhauling MUST I "chain" the 3 decos such that I create a single phycial continuation of the same "line" through out the 3 decos? or...
can I put a 1gig port switch after the first main deco (connected to its "out" port) and use 2 seperate physical lines, from to different ports on the switch, to the 2 remaining decos? whould that still function as a complete backhaul you reffered to? thanks! • @LeonardLeon
      @LeonardLeon 4 роки тому +4

No. Wireless is still significantly slower than the wired. The idea of the mesh is to be able to walk around with the devices and get wi-fi from the same SSID and basically from the same ID, it acts like a wireless version of a network switch.

    • @BrunoPerossoMaiberg

I am considering this system and I have a question. The configuration will be such that the main unit will be at one end of the house and the two satellites will be in a line towards the other end of the house. I can connect the two satellites together for ethernet backhaul, but I cannot connect either of them to the main unit. Would this configuration work and improve throughput at the far end of the house?

Very good. I'm just getting into this mesh system and my knowledge is limited. I just want to be able to have wifi within my house. One satellite upstairs (maybe 40 feet away from my main ISP) and another satellite in my TV room (maybe 50 feet away from my main ISP in my office) . All I run currently is our smart TV, a Nest outdoor camera, 2 iPhones and a laptop plus people who visit. Will this package work for us? Thanks for any reply

I don't know I am using this. I don't disagree about speed and range. But stability is big issue. What I meant is ip conflicts each and every time I get this. I need to reboot when am near second pack router to get ip address assigned to my machine which makes its quite frustrating. I had to this evertime when my system gets locked down or when I shut down my system or power goes off.

I have these set up as access points and I use the Ethernet port to connect wired devices.
Copying around 200GB of MP4 files between my desktop and server I am getting around 60MB/s data transfer rate.
I was using a powerline set up before and I could only get around 6MB/s so a 10x transfer rate is great.
It saves me having to run a LAN cable between the floors.
It also fixed the poor Wi/Fi with the Virgin Media hub.

No surprises here when you connect them with a network cable. So you have cables all over the place anyway.
What you want is NO cables and a descent backhaul communication between nodes. That would have been a good test and now this review is a joke.

This one has 128mb sdram, the M5 and M9 have 256mb sdram. Does this create any slowdowns when we have many devices connected? How does the latency compare between m4, m5, m9 plus? I'm not gonna be able to use the antivirus function because it's gonna be setup in access point mode, and there will be Ethernet backhaul between them, but if m4 is laggier because of the less ram (or a slower processor) then it's a problem for me. Also, what happens if I try to connect 101 devices?

The internal speedtest via html5 in the browser, to test network performance is via an docker image, idk if there is an alternative to this, or an standalone installer. The other app he uses is called wifi sweetspot, but that's just for ios at least as I know, maybe I'm wrong with that. Hope I could help.

The reason why 2nd M4 got 261 Mbps as speed when it is connected wirelessly to the main unit is that it is in bridge mode "repeater" so it lost 50% of the main speed from the main unit, and the 3rd one connected to the 2nd unit also wirelessly so again in bridge mode "repeater" so you lose 50% of your speed from the 2nd unit and you end up with the 126Mbps.
