My husband Andrew and I watched you perform that wonderful music piece Solo last evening at UVM Recital Hall, and encourage you to keep going as long you love it. You were a joy to watch and piece was excellent. Sphinx was quite the support for that work, too!
They make their playing sound as fluid as a violin despite the overwhelming size of the double bass. Just wow. So glad I got to see this. Thank you for posting.
I wish every person on the planet can see these young, talented Black men and women who are a part of this burgeoning art. Blacks are NOT monolithic, and there are way too many generalizations attached to Black people. We are not one-dimensional. We represent a myriad of not only physical characteristics, but talents and gifts.
Bravo Xavier! EXELENTE!!!!! What a magnificently passionate playing of Bottesini to the next level x 5! Xavier not only made this his own he played it with such finesse and passion that I’m sure that Giovanni Bottesini would give Xavier a standing ovation for his exceptional talent in bringing the double bass to the forefront of the orchestra with the finesse of Isaac Pearlman. Looking forward to Xavier’s continued growth and inspiration to double bassist everywhere as well as classical and all music lovers!!!
prof.dr. Vito Liuzzi i saw Xavier on 2011 winning the young competition on the ISB in San Francisco and he played a fantastic sonnambulla, now he's way much better soloist.
I've seen this on Julliard students even in cello but after so many years playing i realized that bow hold doesn't care anymore, i played 6 years italian style and the last 7 i have been playing german and there are like 100 ways of use the bow depending on the person body. If that bow holding work for Xavier that's fantastic he is an amazing soloist.
Why in A minor and not B minor? How is the original? B minor is more difficult i think. But dude, so awesome!!! Totally enjoyed it :O I hope i'll play this once :D Thanks. Solo Deo Gratia!
Beatufiul rendition! He definitely made it his own, interesting fingering choices and touching glissandos.
Don't play this to Petracchi...)))) He'll rip your head off....))))
Like damn, those string crossings and low thumb position. Really made me think of other possobilities
One of the best performances of this piece I have ever heard. Bravo,
Xavier Foley!

As a string bassist I have heard this played many times but never with this soul!
He's 20 in this performance, too. That's absurd

Xavier, you continue to soar higher and higher! Congratulations!! Awesome performance! Hope you can share experience with TDP students this summer.
Just wow!!! Bravo
Шикарно!
So fresh and delightful. What a great musician. He sounds like a violin person that just decided to help the bass out.
Xavier has to put this on spotify
Wow. After that final section I had to re liste to the cadenza. He was not at his limit at all.
maybe my favourite version yet. Gotta be you or Rinat
I feel you, I like a Foley fan but Rinat got him beat for now tho
But that solo cadenza tho
Yea. Both very different
Mikyung Sung for me, but that performance was a year after your comments and several after this performance.

Isn’t this in B minor? Why does it say A minor? He seems to be playing it in B with solo tuning. Great performance though!
Is this the yorke edition?
the strangest bow hold/grip i have ever seen, what/who influenced it?
Patrick McCarthy it looks a little like Joe Conyers
Does it matter? He probably pays better than you 😂

What tuning is he in? Amazing!
Wait.....looks like orchestral.
Is that a carbon bow?
I think it might be either ebony or African blackwood.
parece de carbono
