I noticed that too! There are may places where i thought i was listening to Cantus Articus. There are also parts where it kind of sounds like parts of Autumn Gardens.
But it is the limit of Rautavaara. His music is interesting but the range of what he does is actually very narrow, and after listening to just a handful of work, you can see that he only does again and again the same things in slightly different clothing.
What a stunning introduction; a minute in and I'm already enthralled. Probably one of the greatest openings to any violin sonata I know, I got major chills at 1:56.
I absolutely love this piece. I do find a bit more power in Hillary Hahn’s rendition, but this is what I consider the “original” as it’s the one I’ve heard the most.
Te he concertos by Rautavarrar are quite interetsing not at alla by their 'progressist' writing, but since no one is like another one, and in his own style, Raur tavaara "sticks'indeed to the soloist and orchestral mùoods. Here, lsiten how ascetic sections (for instance the evry begnning) gets mùore and more musical density until a little 'climax' where this writing is renewed and deeply varied
This concerto is a masterpiece! So underrated!
Finally!!! This concerto is absolutely stunning!
Yo imagine listening to this and in the middle of it getting spam called on discord

that build up from 11:23 to 12:00 -- sublime.
Thank you Cmaj7 for promoting this guy's music. It ROCKS!
8:43 - this arioso section is undoubtedly one of the most heartshattering moments in all 20th century music I've ever heard, just btw
Rautavaara had a vision of transcendental sounding...his harmonic structures are incredible beautiful...great composition
I just wanted to listen a bit, but then i had to stay the whole piece, it's amazing
A lot of his ideas in this piece mirror his motifs in Cantus Arcticus. Really beautiful.

@@pianopat i disagree entirely. have you heard his more "new music" / experimental works like Vincent? his fantastic serialist string quartet?
6:30 is 100% Cantus Articus
Unbelievable piece

I think this concerto and Sibelius’ violin concerto have the greatest introductions
I really really really like this image
It's a concerto.
Opening is interesting sounds like a clock ticking in the background. I love violin concertos.
Rautavaara is a genius, love his concertos. This is a bit like Schnittke without the macabre hysteria (although he's a great composer too).
Thanks for posting more Rautavaara. I absolutely love his pieces, specially the concertos.
Definite thumbs up from me. I love this composer.
I wish this was longer!
so good...

Beautiful !!!!
3:19 is probably one of the most beautifully orchestrated parts of any violin concerto other than Sibelius and Shostakovich concertos.
All three are my favourites....
omg...that was an exhilaratingly haunting and ethereal piece.
The climax at the end of the 1st is just so wonderful…
Damn... a cadenza. Been a while since I heard one of those.
Génialissime.
Phenomenal
OMG, I don't believe it! My favorite concert of all ones and in my favorite performance! Thank you a lot!
Great, thanks for sharing!
For some reason I was expecting the Rite of Spring chord at the very end.
rautavaara

Hello there

i can't tell if this is a back handed compliment or not lol
Spot the DSCH!
So cool ! Isn't there a little Shosta reference in the aggressive theme at bar 39 ?
It seems so! Half step up but same intervals!
Strange, I can't hear the descending line in the violins in the very beginning, is the recording using a different edition of the piece?
I can hear them.
❤
so pog
Prog?
👌👌👌
Rite of spring influence
9:25 :)
No way
Typo at 15:07 - oboe 1 played a D when it's marked as a C in the score?
The real thing that should be played at Hallowe'en and in Horror movies, not some weird songs or strange soundtracks
