The Fallout show proves that the Halo show would have been a success if Chief kept his helmet on. Keep the same awful plot, writing and characters. Just leave the helmet on. Bet anything the Redditors and tourists would have loved it.
Very true. As the show only need to look like the brand to sell, regardless if it's well cared for or not. That's why you have the fools who cry on their own doing, the fools will get what they asked for.
@ShimmyFr Even if you don't like Avellone you can't deny that his works are very distinct and are trying to say something or portray an idea of some sort, or interesting concept. People talk about Ulysses, Kotor 2, Planescape Torment up to this day.
2:33 The series brings up Hegelian Dialectics, Christian Mormon attitudes towards pacifism, technophobia, the danger of historic nostalgia, the Great Man theory, freedom versus security, statism versus anarchy etc. just to name a few. Along with the key theme of the entire game being the violent tendencies of mankind. What the hell would you call that if not a game series concerned with philosophy? And don't forget the best philosophical question: do I nuke a town for lulz!
Ulysses' final message to you genuinely tears me up every time I hear it, not because it's sad or anything, but because how powerful I find it both terms of the question of how we can solve human conflict, as well as the perfect monologue to wrap up the entire series. That's why I consider Lonesome Road the perfect END of the Fallout trilogy.
Fallout has never really thoroughly explored Anarchism vs Statism (horizontalism vs hierarchy). There arent many anarchist/democratic factions. The Followers are one i can think of. But it would be intresting if Fallout actually explored anarchism/socialism instead of just having wholesome chungus oligarchy and le epic far-right authoriterians that want to nuke everyone.
EE: "Enclave Emily here, why isn't your video feed working?" Bethesda fanboy: "Is this Bethesda pre order phone line? I'd like to pre order Fallout 5, with extra slob please!" EE: "Who the? Why I, I SHOULD KICK YOUR ASS, WHO IS THIS?!"
The funniest thing to come out of all this is Todd coming out and saying they respect and do their due diligence with the timeline and lore and people believing him You know the company that literally had the opinion we’re not beholden to something someone wrote 20 years ago and not caring about consistency in a franchise with the silly ghouls and super mutants
And then that whole emil pagliarulo debacle with "Nate the rake". Immediately backpedaling once people rightfully called him out on his bullshit. Hell, I would have preferred if he had stuck to his principles and maintained that warcriminal Nate was now, somehow, canon, in a story that allows for players to create their own main characters and therefore has no canon player character. By backpedaling and immediately disproving his own claim that nate was a war-criminal, he blatantly proved that whether the lore makes sense doesn't matter to this guy. He and todd just like stuff that is cool in the moment, damned be the consequences. The lore is just a vehicle for them to explore cool ideas. Which makes sense in theory, but when put in practice by clowns that don't RESPECT that lore, it's a writing nightmare. Todd's argument that they did their due dilligence also makes no sense. He hasn't outright disproven the counter-arguments to that, he just says "trust me bro", and some people somehow treat that as gospel. The truth of the matter is that the blackboard scene and the "vault tec nuked shady sands" crap is downright ridiculous, contradictory to the lore, and even if it weren't, it would still be bad writing, plain and simple. No amount of pretended "due diligence" can cover that up. Though apparantly, for a ton of show consumers, I guess it can.
We Fallout fans are literally that one meme at this point. ''How does it feel to live long enough to see all your favourite franchises go down in flames?'' ''Feels great''
Who dafuq cites a Wikia article as canon, much less brags about consuming Wikia and Fallout YT? If you're going to lie to establish your appeal to authority, at least say you've been a fan of the game going back to 1997 and how you liked BoS and Tactics. But, these tourists can't even do a good job at lying.
The fuck do you mean who does that? Who doesn't? Who the fuck goes to talk about a topic without doing the bare minimum and reading about the topic like 5 minutes?
The state of Fallout can be summarized in the words of The Master: 'There is no hope ... Leave while you still have hope' I'd like to add a 'right now' for the quote, as you said no matter how big the fire is it eventually extinguish itself. Also the Sonic comparison, pretty good.
What annoys me the most is how people keep excusing bad writing in the show with video game logic. Like Maximus being an 'idiot savant' because its a perk in Fallout 4. Video game logic doesn't make for good writing when it comes to characters. Just because I can use the 357. magnum to fly in New Vegas doesnt mean it makes for good storytelling and makes sense in the world. These people could see a character get their head blown off clean and then appear fine in the next scene and they'd justify it by saying they loaded a quicksave.
@@yarus5889Genuine cartoon logic. That scene alone is so stupid , the fact that even that is getting coped for speaks volumes about the modern Fallout fanbase.
I mean the video game logic they use isn't accurate. They apply the concept of Luck from Fallout the video game, to what we consider real world luck, but if we want to justify writing using Video game mechanics - well, thats not how mechanics work. Idiot Savant doesn't just drop success on you if you do stupid things. Idiot Savant gives you extra XP based on how low your INT score is, meanwhile INT gives you steady extra EXP. Idiot savant gives you random bonus EXP. ACcording to game mechanics smart character levels up better across the board, while idiot savant levels up more, but in unreliable random bursts. Leveling up in fallout 4 means picking up perks. Progression of Savant is unreliable and all over the place, while high INT character just picks up new skills regularly faster. This is not how this is in the show, Maximus never learns something or improves. Luck in fallout games doesn't affect plot progression. It affects gambling, chance of success in certain affairs, and special random encounter, and in 3 and NV gives a slight bonus to all skills. It doesn't make yo encounter Benny randomly while travelling to the desert. It makes reaching Benny easier because you are just very slightly better at everything, and sometimes do lucky hits at the enemy that deal more damage. It doesn't make you stumble upon Geck randomly in Fallout 2. It makes all your dice rolls a bit better, and increases chances of special random encounters that might benefit you on your quest. Luck in fallout have never been about reality literally bending over you. 10 luck doesn't means everything just comes your way, it just means that odds are slightly more in your favor when you try to do something, but you still need to actually good at thing you are doing.
Remember how everyone loved Force Awakened when it came out? Now you'd be hard pressed to find someone that will admit they liked it? The Fallout show will be like that in time - Just like Fallout 4.
I've only seen the inverse, the older Fallout 4 gets the more people seem to appreciate the aspects that it improved on VS Fallout 3 and even New Vegas. Especially regarding a much more consistent fleshed out pre-war world vs any of previous Fallout games. The Settlement building has even started to be appreciated, which is good as it's honestly a fitting addition to the Fallout games.
@@hankkits4043 It is called "lower your standards spiral". When things get progressively worse, like with 76, people start to look up to older garbage because it is not as bas as new garbage.
I think the show will be exactly like Star Wars 7, at first everyone will find it extraordinary then season 2 comes along, and suddenly the whole show will be called into question.
@@fathorse8 I don't think it's a question of necessarily wanting to destroy, it's simply a question of making an IP more accessible to a larger audience. Then there's the fact that certain directors, writers, producers, like to change the elements of an IP to either get a political message across or simply because they felt like making this change, most of whom don't give a damn whether it holds up with the IP's lore. I'm sure most of them think like Pete Hines : _“not interested in discussing how realistic things are in an alternate universe post-apoc game w/ talking mutants and ghouls”_
They may ruin it in season 2 or later, once they see they have an audience in. But if it goes south, I'll jump ship like I made sure to watch it on the high seas first before properly on Amazon due to how great season 1 was. As a lifelong fan of Fallout since #1 in the 90s, season 1 is outstanding.
76 is way better than RoS. It's not like the rest, but it stands on its own merits. It's just too bad it was completely undevelop garbage. 76 was the clarion call of hell. Should've made everyone suspicious of the gaming industry.
I don't think you need to be "hard core" to notice that the show is so incompetent that the ghoul that knows how to one tap power armor forgets how to one tap power armor when he fights a main character in power armor, but hey, what do I know. I must be a rabid Vegas purist.
@@EnclaveEmily He could have just forgotten in the moment. Mind you he had a screwdriver for that scene so it's possible he just found it and figured he had a chance to kill some assholes in Power Armor with that part and I honestly think the ghoul was just fucking with Max as he might have figured him to be really green for a knight. Does the show have writing problems... A lot but what Fallout game doesn't have their own problems with writing. (Fallout 2, 3, ,4). I like the show, it's not as bad as people make it out to be as I think it's meant to appeal to Gen Z fallout fans but to each their own I guess
When a company like Bethesda owns the IP, then gatekeeping becomes moot. They have the marketing power to get the casuals to buy and will cater to them. This kind of tactic is only good for short term gains. Once the casuals get bored and moved on, the actual fans that left out of disgust will no longer be there to support it. The same thing happened with the Bayformers, Star Wars, or the Marvel series of movies.
We literally felt how the Desert Rangers felt when the fought the Legion in Arizona and Nevada, absolutely decimated by the sheer number of them, and besides that, they are literally braindead, I tried helping one of those folks mod New Vegas and they legit can't read a guide on the Viva New Vegas website and even then no matter how much I try to help, they just can't do it even with the most basic of instructions like Jesus, so I just dipped and ditched them, we aren't gatekeeping against sane individuals here, many of them have little to no reading comprehension, there is nothing we can do against a bunch of consoomers that can't think for themselves, hell if they can even think, it's over, fun while it lasted but yeah it's very much over.
I recently finished playing the classic fallout games and it made me understand a bit better what many hardcore fallout fans are talking about when they say Bethesda doesn’t understand fallout. The story and world and characters are well thought out and each side quest has a significant impact on each play through. I’m not a hardcore fallout fan by any means. I still enjoyed the modern fallout games and the show but after playing the classics I can see where all the hardcore fans are coming from and I would like to see fallout return to the classics level of story telling
Agree. I see why they think bethesda doesn't understand fallout. My problem with classic fallout fans is that they can't just let you enjoy something. It's not "I don't enjoy bethesda fallout but it's fine if you do, it's just not my cup of tea", it's "bethesda fallout is shit and your taste is shit if you like it"
@@LucaBattiato-lm4rn Real they’re always so toxic, if I even mention fallout 3, 4, or 76 it’s immediately: “Oh? Those games? They’re piles of horseshit. Why would you even bring them up?”. I honestly wish people would let people enjoy stuff. They immediately resort to rude insults and toxicity, reminds me of league, which is frightening.
You are correct. All we all needed to do was gatekeep half as hard as the average NMA forum goer, and we would have been far better off. If anything has been learned over the last few decades, it must be that gatekeeping is always the answer, and the more ruthless and unforgiving of slop and drift, the better. Great video, EE.
I wholeheartedly agree, fans who really love a franchise definitely need to gatekeep in order to keep people out that will destroy the franchise or hobby, like fallout, Star Wars or even Dungeons and dragons.
What the fuck do I even say to express my opinion here? I guess I'll start off by saying your point is baffling, I could never rationalize it ever being right. I'm speaking on terms of gatekeeping, not anything in this video. Just, people have different interpretations of stuff, right? New people join communities, right? Why would it be rational to stop them from talking about the series, you might get rid of the bad takes from people who barely know the thing, but you also lose that interpretation. It's better to have a bunch of dimwits than a bunch of people who come up with the same opinions. I'm also pulling out the It's not that serious card, cause it is. It's a game, stop being so negative to ideas stemming from others. Don't pull the "what if their ideas ruin how the author should make the series" cause while, that can be true, why does anything going in a new direction hurt? Nothing can be the same ever, things change. Yes, of course fans should be heard, but we should never have the same adventure on the same land with the same characters, cause it's about the story, not about how comforting the series can be. Sorry for sounding so harsh. I don't like this opinion, but it's your opinion. I'm not gonna changenyour thoughts on a whim, but just stop sounding so negative, okay? You can't control things, so stop trying. I have some maybe stupid advice? If you want something in a series, make it yourself. It doesn't matter if it's low quality or not, if it's made for just you or for everyone. There are so many ways you can make a story, even without materials. Don't wait on a company to make your stories.
aside from gatekeeping, perhaps Fallout fans could try to give their vocal, and if applicable practical, support to likewise fan-made efforts which attempt to really capture what makes Fallout the franchise that it once was. stuff like Sonora/Dayglow and the attempt at a Van Buren remake don't get enough attention I feel. plus it's less money for the people who crank out this new slop
And don't forget the projects of love here on youtube like "Red star" or "nuka break" (it's original creator is busy making a sort of sequel). While not perfect, and certainly not on the same level of funding like an amazon show, they still tend to be much more respectful to the source material, while also slightly altering things for the sake of creating a unique story (I personally don't like that they wrote edward sallow as having a brother called leon who is his own seperate legion-commander. It contradicts everything we know about caesar. But it's the only instance of such a massive retconn, fanmade or otherwise.)
I thought I was mad when I endured all eight episodes of Fallout show and deemed it to be bad while the majority of the internet seems to support the show unironically. Then I realized the fact that we're simply being outnumbered 15 to 1.
@@rogerloger1935 yeah we don’t need good writing or any sort of actual talent. All that is needed is iconography slop. What a great state of affairs we should defend and encourage.
As an NCR fanboy I got scared you were gonna be one of those people that take what Hildern said at face value, but yeah fair point. Also that video of the flanderization of fallout has become so painfully accurate :/
I don't consider what the "smart guy" characters or even people say at face value, like, ever. His conclusion is based on variables in his equation that lead to a conclusion. But variables are.. well.. variable, and that says enough.
The problem with "smart" people in the fallout franchise as a whole (before the beth takeover), is that they are also human, and are equally capable of being greedy, narcissistic, ideological, cynical, etc... Intelligence does not remove human traits altogether, as a good story should explore. Hildern is smart. He's also greedy, politically motivated, and shortsighted. He knew the risks of vault 22 and still accepted them, all for short term gain. He's essentially the ncr's institutions in a nutshell. The point is, that "bad" character traits, in obsidian fallout, were seen as human traits. That includes the insanity and awkward horniness of the big MT brains. They are a tragic lot, and consequentially evil, though at the price of never really understanding their own evil. They are stuck in an infinite loop, all in order to preserve them out of Mobius' distorted sense of loyalty or love for his colleagues. Behind the silly humor and "stupid" stuff characters may or may not do, in obsidian's fallout, is likely a human element. In beth fallout, stupidity is just stupidity, horniness is just horniness and crazyness is just crazyness. Maximus has no reason to be THIS stupid or out of touch. In fact, a good portion of his character is that he can be smart at times. So why contradict that a few scenes down the line? A perfect Bethesda example: everybody loves the gary vault in fallout 3, but realistically, the vault makes no sense, cloning does not create perfect copies, and why would such perfect copies even constantly say "gary". It's silly dumb shit for the sake of silly dumb shit, that gets excused by fans because of the franchise's inherent wacky side. Compare this to how vaults are treated in new vegas, as cruel, fucked up, and darkly comical experiments by a paranoid government's funded cabal of science-fact-obsessed-psychopaths. If anything is "wacky" about this, it's because reality, in it's darkest moments, tends to be almost comical. I'm not saying obsidian always makes perfect stuff. Far from it. But there is a sincere difference in philosophy between the two studios. How intelligence and seriousness is portrayed is part of that.
@@EnclaveEmily I was making a joke that at the start of the video, the text says "converation" instead of conversation, hence defenders of Slopout will say the video is invalid. Or are you playing a joke on me now?
Enclave Emily Lore Master and Prominent Revewer can't even do THE FLAG right, and has 12-small stars flag, while all those flags are with 13 (number of Commonwealths) with simbol in the middle representing those who are "federal rule"
As someone who calls himself a Sonic fan, let me give you some context at 23:17. This clip is from the game Sonic Colors, released in 2010. At this moment in time, the franchise was absolutely in the gutter, and probably would have died off if Sega had more than a single braincell left to spare. Colloquially we (sonic fans) call 2010-ish the end of the 'dark ages'. The reason for this, is that in amidst all these mediocre or downright terrible games comes Sonic Colors, a game that for once isn't utter dogshit but actually decent to play, even if it was playing it incredibly safe and sterile. When the game first came out, you had people, maingly critics glazing the game for it over and over. Nowadays though people know better and see that the game was not as good as everyone thought it was, but it was still a necessary evil while the franchise truly was at rock bottom, and we were looking for every single W we could find. But even still, we got right back to the gatekeeping and complaining once the cringe and childish humor for 'mass appeal' wasn't really ignorable anymore, if that's even a word.
I was always confused as to why the 2010s were considered the end of the dark ages, when the entire 2010s, minus Mania and Generations were effectively The Dark Ages. I've been a sonic fan for 20 years now, and I'm happy that the franchise I love is coming back. I've always hated Colours though.
@@EnclaveEmily I don't think the debate around when the dark ages actually ended is going to end anytime soon I guess lol. I just gave the generally accepted point in time it ended to better articulate what I was trying to say. These days everyone calls the 2010s the 'meta era' because of the self-aware mass appeal slop that seeped in starting from Colors and faded away after Forces. I mean jesus christ just have a look at the cutscenes from Lost World. Mania is treated as more of an outlier in that regard. But yeah, like you said in the video, despite the 2 decades of subpar crap we were given, we never stopped complaining or lowering the bar, whilst franchises like Total War and now also Fallout did, and what Sonic got from that is a goddamn comeback. There's a lesson to be learned there indeed. Cheers for the video and have a good day :)

Imagine if a BioShock movie came out and had Borderlands writing with cringey jokes all over the place. The fans of the franchise would obviously be angry about it, but the tourists would still claim that it's a faithful adaption because an underwater city that fell due to a lack of regulations is actually supposed to be hilarious. The feeling BioShock fans would have would be the same as the Fallout fans have now.

the “ghouls now need special juices to stay sentient” retconn is so stupid because there are examples of many ghouls cut off from the outside workd that are sentient that would have no way to get said special juices. take the ghould boy in the fridge from fallout 4 for example. was he drip fed the special juices from a hole in the fridge while he was there? i guess todd howard and the shows writers think so
and ignoring the games the show itself contradicts itself because DA GHOUL was without piss juice for unspecified time yet hasn't gone feral at the same time only DA GHOUL has deadpool healing factor because other ghouls die normally
It's feel like something that was born out of large incompetent and rushed writing. Fallout 3 tried, Fallout 4 is a trash bin, Fallout TV Show is a worthless shell. All going to be a cycle sooner or later...
@PrimeDecanus Damn I didn't know I did a caricature that well here lmao. Nah, I'm on your side for sure. It really doesn't bother me that this show exists but rather that so many "fans" say they enjoy it and Amazon did a good job with it, not only enabling the greed those socialists/communists claim to be against but enabling bad entries into one of my favorite fictional universes to continue to be created, leaving the owner of the IP to believe they did everything right.
The thing is with Fallout "fans" that you cannot have a proper argument with them. You can make the most detailed argument/responses and all they do is "La la la I can't hear you, you're stupid." or call you a neckbeard weirdo.
that's just all fanbases, really. Especially ones that deal with a franchise that takes itself rather seriously, like fallout (or at least did.) I mean, from what I can assume, you yourself are probably a fallout fan, that would mean calling yourself out on being a fallacy spouter. No, in reality, it's just the internet being the internet. Decent, but perhaps long and well-argumented comments and takes aren't nearly as popular or "liked", in a more literal sense, than short, snappy, controversial, provocative statements based on strawman ad hominem fallacies. There is a reason "TL;DR" is a well known concept. You can't have good debates with short and snappy insults. But only short and snappy insults get all the attention, and good argumentation gets hated on for being longer than a single paragraph. It's anti-intellectualism in practice. So when a fanbase is split in half through the franchise' own failings (or perhaps successes, from a different perspective), that's just bound to get tempers flaring and all the demagogues and ragebaiters out of the woodworks. I'd say the same thing about this video and channel, honestly. You can make your argument and still be respectful. Trying to backpedal by saying it was actually just hyperbole and the people who took the ragebait seriously are "stupid", is in fact just repeating the toxic cycle. You're kind of proving their point. This isn'timproving the debate or making a point in a valid manner. It's just ragebait (itself a valid but cynical tactic for several youtube channels. I just wish they'd actually have a spine about it and not whine the moment they get criticized for it.) And I say that from the point of somebody who in fact doesn't particularly like the show's direction. The lore was all over the place, the chalkboard scene is a travesty from both a lore AND writing perspective, the humor is typical bethesda derping, a lot of character decisions or behavior doesn't make sense, important canon events of the games are either glossed over or straight up stay unmentioned despite being VERY important to the setting, etc...etc... The show is a franchise expander. It expands it's audience to normies. It's also a "fan" pleaser, in the sense that if you starve the fans enough of good content, they'll start to drool over barely decent content instead if you wait long enough. It wasn't made for the good kind of fan. It was made for consumption, and that's just a fact no matter how you spin it.
The most annoying thing about the decline of Fallout is that it's happening to the thunderous clapping of Bethesda NPCs. The first 2 Fallouts were not games made for mass appeal. Still, they always had a loyal following for what they were. Then, enter the Casuals' Era. Bethesda smelled the money and began dumbing down everything to appeal to as wide audience as possible. It's like you had your favorite cocktail with a unique blend of ingredients, but then a new bar owner came and took notice of it. They wanted to sell more of it, so they replaced 90% of the ingredients with water, but still sold it under the same name. New clients came in, tasted the watered down sludge and declared that it's awesome. That and yelled at anyone who tried to explain that it's not what this drink ought to be and that the original is far tastier. And that's your recipe for disaster. Replace actual fans with mindless drones who will preorder everything you put out, because they don't have two brain cells to rub together.
That's exactly what is happening. No more complex than that. Sometimes the answer really is that people are just genuinely stupid. I swear that I have never seen a single advocate for the TV show who has made a coherent argument beyond "omg just be inclusive, why do you care so much, omg fallout is for everyone". They're literally all just rêtärds.
Bethesda inherent need to make any media in Fallout a wasteland in a never ending apocalypse goes against another point of Fallout. We see civilization bounce back in the first 2 games. Iirc by the time of New Vegas, Shady Sands and a lot of the NCR is comparable to the 20th Century in living standard with power, cars, and infrastructure. But we see none of that in the show despite being deep inside NCR territory. Because Bethesda cant have a Fallout setting unless its a dead wasteland with only small tribal villages barely making it day by day. Ive been calling it for years that Bethesda would do it if they ever touched the West Coast. People also dont seem to bring up how Vault Tec nuked Shady Sands despite Shady Sands being a result of one of Vault Tecs vaults. Like ???????.
Just found this channel, holy shit, I'm not the only one that sees the franchise becoming watered down wacky wasteland with 1950s shapes and colors. With nothingburger
I ve become SW fan when i played kotor 2 at the age of 15. It would be belittling to say that the plot crushed my teen brains with a bat. Lucky coincidence that kotor 2 was made by obsidian and chris avelone. And then my friends invited me on the 8 episode the last jedi (i didnt watch 7 episode). After we left the cinema at 10 pm i screamed at the top of my lungs cause of sheer idiocity that i witnessed. I scared half of the street and gathered concerned looks of bypassers but i just wanted to scream "WHAT THE ACTUAL FOIK I JUST WATCHED?!". And now years later i have the same feeling like i watched the very defenitioin of the fan insult. The difference is i m no longer a teen and i wont scream but the ash in mouth tastes the same
Yes, I'm thinking Bethesda sends people or that bot that replied to the Starfield reviews into comment sections to try sway conversation. They just REFUSE to see the point and try repeat the same talking points.
In my head I still have this idea for a better TV show consisting of three not connected seasons each telling their own story: 1. A young man from the fringes of the NCR decides to enlist in the NCR military. We see parts of everyday life in rural NCR and the protagonist tour of duty including the finale set during the first Battle of Hoover Dam. 2. The final days of Camp Navarro before the NCR assault. We see a more human side of Enclave soldiers and their families stationed there including the New Vegas remnants and the mother of young Arcade Gannon. Sergeant Arch Dornan prepares the final detachment of new soldiers for the upcoming defense in his iconic ironfisted way, but we learn he deeply cares about his fellow men. The finale ends with Dornan and his men making a last stand to block an assault of NCR forces on the Vertibird hangars so the remnants and the Gannon family can escape. 3. Just the story of Vault 11 as told by the terminal entries and the storytelling skellingtons and that final holotape recording outside the vault entrace in New Vegas.
Bro. Seriously. Someone should fund you. These are all really good premises for a show. I'll try and add a few of my own. 1. The founding of Jacobstown. Where we're reintroduced to Marcus the supermutant and his story of gaining support for the reconstruction of the Mt. Charleston ski resort lodge to become a home for destitute supermutants and nightkin. Showing the general attitude of supermutants as wanting to live unbothered for the most part, as well as the troubles and dark past that being a supermutant entails. 2. Joshua Graham's journey and integration into the Zion Valley's tribes. Told In Medias Res, where Joshua is already acting Warchief of the Dead Horses and planning preparations to defend against a White Legs attack. Using multiple long flashbacks of Joshua's career as Malpais Legate to explain as "inspiration" for his tactics and strategy in the upcoming fight, big fight scene against the White Legs as the climax, ending with one last flashback to his fiery fall into the Grand Canyon and subsequent survival while reflecting on their victory. Reminiscent of a baptism. 3. Sheriff Myer's and how he got himself imprisoned in NCRCF. Basically a big Dirty Harry reference/tribute.
Another good essay on the topic. I am surrounded by people who try to excuse the new series and even Fallout 76. 'Tis good to know you're not alone fighting for the real Fallout. Ave. True to OG fanbase.
@@rogerloger1935 pathetic is Bethesda handling canon and turning a grim wasteland with lots of unethical and questionable stuff going on to a playground with Fat Men, since blowing up nukes is fun. It is, I guess, Bethesda at their best - they just long to make an extraordinary visual scene in spite of common sense. Just like with blowing up you-know-what in TV series, and to do so seamlessly, they moved it just a *tiny bit* very far
Tbh at this point I am done with fallout. As a friend of mine said that used to be a fallout fan „people actually caring about fallout for its seriousness have left it behind with 76 at the latest“ And I just gotta agree and call it quits, Bethesda has ruined fallout and there simply is no way to repair the damage done by now…
The Secret Meeting scene from Fallout the Show was also a 4th wall foreshadow that the Creators of the show and Bethesda want to 'launch the nuke' to ruin the old lore so they can be the only ones to benefit from the praise of the existence of the Fallout Series without having to ever being compared to the original 2 and New Vegas.
The capitalism thing is, with no shadow of a doubt, the most stupid thing I ever saw on a show or film. Neil Breen's movies don't come close to this. The people who wrote this show are children.
This show doesn't oppose capitalism in any shape way or form, even when it's given plenty of opportunity to do so, Moldaver herself said she wasn't a socialist and just 'a patriot'. The only criticism it does is a very shallow view of lobbying, monopolies and some criticism over AI.
@@abcde6081 Is it a criticism of capitalism if the show proposes a nebulous "better capitalism" as it's most moral alternative? Also, I'm not even a libertarian or pro-capitalism myself, but from what I've heard lots of libertarians and such would argue that the state the world reached in Fallout is not even truly capitalism.
The Fallout we deserved is "Kenshi" if you've played Kenshi it's a better Fallout game than anything Bethesda has made. Arguably even better than New Vegas.
Its one thing for a show to be bad Its another for a show to have red flags BEFORE IT RELEASED with writers talking about how it would be "a wacky gonzo mindblowing adventure",which is only accurate if you look at fallout from a very reductionist view of someone who didnt put that much thought into it,nor is very smart,a midwit consoomer. I am no longer convinced on the whole "Its a good show but not a good adaptation" argument thanks to this show,if you cant even respect what came before you,of a franchise that isnt even yours then chances are you probably wont write something good.
8:08 "I could write university level essays on... [the] Vipers off the top of my head." No, no you couldn't. The vipers have next to no presence in the games. What an absurd thing to say.

Good observations there! If you ask around gamers, one can pretty quickly see that the reason everything went to Hell in gaming is closely related to the toxic garbage these people mindlessly consume on the internet while playing or in their downtimes! If algorithms made one thing sure, it's that these clueless gamer kids can become fanatics under Mommy's skirt in the course of like 5 videos! It's picked for them in a way that would fuel their frustrations with life (sex, work, money and society as a whole), and fill in some of the missing parts in their already horribly wrong worldview! Just listen to the folks getting radical as Hell, hating on everything, while spitting hatred, also clinging to their damn mindless videogame consumer ways like their life depended on it! These companies sell things that calms their hopeless addiction, and like a good little addict, they protect not just really good stuff that comes from the videogame industry, but anything and everything! In the end they'll cry the hardest when the industry and all these TV shows, and DLCs with Battle Pass / Season Pass / DLC Chapter or microtransaction practices make the industry to crash into the ground like a nuke! And you know what? They'll deserve it!
I did my part gatekeeping for many years but the recent influx from the Amazon series has really just been too much for anyone to bear. I think it’s truly over this time, we’ve lost our franchise for good.
Never give up, never surrender. Hold the line! Seriously tho, never going to give up on Fallout. Will be gatekeeping till the grave, and I hope you will join me in doing so. Plus, the Tourists are really fun and easy to mock and anger.
14:17 Wait, people actually defended the always four dialogue choice system when even the develops thought it was a mistake? The one thing in the game that had a mod made to show what you say only 5 days after the release of the game and is still the 9th most popular mod on NexusMods?
This New Vegas gameplay is distracting, ngl. Seeing it looking like that wehre as I am having it as close to vanilla as possible for nearly 90 hours now... is just weird, lol
Well, it's a side effect of having a hyper-modded game (400+mods, customized textures and custom scripts). Believe it or not, that's the game toned down from what it actually looks like when I'm playing usually lol.
@@EnclaveEmily I followed the VNV guide and got to 200 mods, but that was enough for me. I played the game until DeadMoney (over 100 hours) back in 2017 and had it drop to 15 fps with crashes every single session. So for the time being I just wanna see the vanilla content. But it thankfully looks like modding the game has progressed considerably these days, so I plan on doing quest mods and the like in the future. I assume you have an ENB running, becasue the lighting is looking very different, right?
I wont say I love the points you make, but I respect them, and I respect you. Tbh I saw the writing on the wall of a lot of franchises a long time ago. The age of the nerd I see has died and many haven't realized that yet. Everything is mainstream or will be soon. Halo, Fallout, Warhammer, Magic the Gathering, D&D its all mainstream and has fallen from grace. And I just think... "What can I do but shrug and watch"
@@Caragoner here's what you can do: the unpopular thing and push back against it. Look at the Sonic Franchise and how it's now advertised as for fans, making content based on lore and to please old fans of it. Shrugging just guarantees it keeps happening
I stopped caring about the stories because i know they will be trash, im just happy we get more materials for cosplays. When you see the New Vegas day at the pionner saloon, this is where the community is. I'm working on a Follower of the apoc, this will be fun.
That's fine for you. But you should at the very least acknowledge that not everybody is a cosplayer, and the core community's wishes to maintain a consistent lore canon are very valid, and in fact more so than a nonsensical apathatic approach to writing which is what you display here. Whether you like the show or not, you will always have your cosplays. But normal fans don't have the luxury of apathy.
@@RedFloyd469 I'm asking you to be real with me here. Do you truly believe we will ever get video games as good as 2000-2010? Devs theses days were DnD players, thats why RPGs were so good. When Earthworm Jim is one of pinnacles of game adaptations, you know something is wrong with the process. And I say this as someone who enjoyed the earthworm Jim cartoon more than the fallout show.
Personally i'm comfortable with fallout existing as a trilogy of games focused on the California / Nevada area of the US after an apocalypse. What Bethesda have made simply isn't fallout, its not even similar to it in any way beyond surface level marketing and I think that's better than the alternative of them trying and failing to continue the west coasts story. The people who made the fallout trilogy what it was are gone now, they've retired and moved on to new projects, and no one else has the ability to continue what they started (and i believe they shouldn't. Fallout, at least in america, should have ended with New Vegas.) If fallout were to continue as a franchise, i think fallout London is the right way to go about it. It should be new trilogies in new countries with new ideas and iconography. Sadly its likely we'll never end up seeing London release thanks to Bethesda's thinly veiled sabotage. As it stands Bethesda is going to keep making borderlands lite and slapping the fallout name on it and the normies are going to keep eating it up. That's not going to change until Emil and Todd are out of the picture, and i have a feeling whatever comes next would be worse.
Todd stated that Fallout is an USA only game, especially because of the 50s Retro-Futuristic aesthetics. However he is a liar. That said I hope they will fix something in FO5 otherwise it will be just post-apocalypse sim until its death
Overall, I agreed with your points in the Fo Show review (still can't believe what they've done to the franchise), but i found the anger/insults to be a little excessive, you're making it easy for people who want to dismiss you
19:50 funny thing is, the fact that people just see ulysses as “bear bull bear bull” rather than the intelligent, deep character he is proves that we are in hell
I love Fallout. Clearly you do as well. I disagree with so many of your opinions, but I think that it's incredible that the Fallout series has that draw. We all take something from it and we are all very passionate about what we find in it. That's so cool
You've hit the nail on the head, the apologists are actually cultists. They've wanted a fallout show that how dare you point out that it sucks. I call them trekkie-like cultists. put the logo on a turd and they gobble it up yum, yum, yum, no matter how badly it stinks. They're useless. The writing sucked, the characters sucked, putting fallout bobbles in it (power armor, energy weapons they never fired, etc) doesn't make it suck any less. These are the same geniouses that prepay for games, you know, the ones they've never seen or played but willingly hand over their cash? And they wonder why tod and bethesday feeds them turds.
@@Robertpaulson431 Prove the writing doesn't suck, prove the characters don't suck. That isn't much of an argument. tbf fallout 2 was criticized for its unserious tone. this is because it included too many 4th wall breaking jokes and references. san francisco was so half-baked they were just like fuck it kung-fu. and having a faction just be scientologists was just bizarre and dumb. also redding plays way to hard into the old west tropes (same with mafia tropes in New Reno, among other things). fallout 2 redeems itself though because while there is a bunch of shit, the good parts put together probably make a bigger game than the original fallout, so its a true sequel. i've certainly played a lot of it. in fact i might blame fallout 2 for the eventual shift in tone with bethesda. I don't think you could take fallout in the direction they did if they were just working with Fallout 1. that game sets a tone and stays there, it is bleak.
ill add that the shows humor and bethesdas humor are different that fallout 2's humor so its not like they're copying the homework. and not to sound biased but i do think fallout 2 is funnier even if the outdated reference humor is super cringe.
@@empathetic4100 3's atmosphere is the best in the series imo. it's what got me into the games in the first place. RIP adam adamowicz, i really wish they would have emulated his style for fallout 4
As much as your points are valid, especially that of the decline of some more serious aspects of the franchise, the show was still quite enjoyable even despite some awkward dialogue and lack of a thought provoking narrative. No adaptation is perfect but this is one of the best we’ve gotten. It seems the distaste for the show stems from how the series as a whole has become less grim and leans more into the happier more eccentric exterior that hides darker secrets (present since f3 but more since f4). However if you’re so unhappy with the “new direction” there’s always the metro and mad max franchises to satisfy your grungy needs.👍
But, it's a terrible adaptation. Seriously, what exactly is good about it as an adaptation? It messes up the lore, the tone, the atmosphere, and the themes. I guess the costumes and set designs are okay, but that basically makes it only slightly better than the original Mortal Kombat movie. Sure, we've had adaptations that are SO bad as to be unrecognizable AS adaptations, so I'll grant that it's superior to those, but that's like a really low bar.
I'll repeat something I posted on another video about this: "We're constantly asked to turn our brains off to enjoy media... How about they turn THEIR brains ON for a change???" Demand better written shows!!!
That’s funny because I need to turn my brain off to enjoy Bethesda’s Fallout games, but I need to turn my brain on to enjoy Fallout 1, 2, and NV. Hmm………..
Putin isn't purple, but I wouldn't mind if he Thanos'd the world now. Enjoying Star Wars or Fallout or Mass Effect or any series I used to love just isn't fun anymore. And it's not just because of their quality dipping.
I used to be with Fallout, but then they changed what Fallout was. Now what Fallout is to me isn't Fallout, and what's Fallout seems shallow and idiotic to me, and it'll happen to you, too.
I kind of wish the show was written better and took place in Colorado like intended. I know the showrunners don't mean to come off this way but I can see why people are taking this as a diss to the West Coast.
I also agree fallout is a philosophical game in writing, from one, 2 and New Vegas, do tackle questions that help and allow the player how this world words, and reflection to real life. My name favourite exsamples in New Vegas, are indeed characters like Joshua Graham, Mr. House and well The God, characters that give perspectives and insight that you can take yourself outside the game, not forcing you to think, allowing you to choose for yourself, thus the value of self autonomy of fallout.
Really good video by the way I especially liked what you said at the end, and I do agree what needs to happen fallout needs to die and be resurrected and be brought back to its glory. I do agree it has to get worse before it gets better because I want it to get better the storytelling of fallout 1&2 new Vegas we’re great, and I want more of that and you’re gonna find this hilarious my first fallout game I hesitate to even call it that myself because After experiencing the rest of the series my first game was fallout 4 two years after that game came out I went back and played the rest of the series and I was hooked after that and I fell in love with new Vegas. And I really want another fallout game like that so if the series has to die to make that happen that would be great anyways, you have for sure earned yourself a new subscriber.
The Fallout show here was the first time i became genuinely angry with how Fallout had been handled. Fallout 4 has a ton of issues, but at least it could be serious at times. This show destroyed everything good about it by adding stupid dialogue during every somewhat decent moment. And at least Fallout 4 didn't totally retcon New Vegas.
I fucking hate the fact that ghoul juice is a thing for ghouls despite no one prewar would know about ghouls being a thing and how would you make such a thing for something that does not exist yet and somehow have it be effective??? as well the ghoul graveyard burial shit, wtf is that and the scene where that knight asprint guy gets a arrow to the next and somehow still lives on?? Fuck the show.
Let me complain for a minute, feel free to scroll past ima just rant. First, I love the gameplay of nv, it's not the best, I mean I love fo 4 and 76 a lot more but that's only if I want to shoot shoot blam blam, and since the TV show has killed my love of fo I don't mind 76 anymore. Sure I'll shoot aliens, why the heck not. I won't pay for fallout 1st or anything but I'll take entertainment since I bought it day 1. Cass making a joke isn't taking the game wacky goofy zanny. People make jokes, I make jokes, I live in a down to earth world so does anyone else who makes jokes. Cass long duck Johnson joke is just that, a joke. The kings make sense in the world as a way to unify the group. And the one I feel you downplay soooo harshly, the think tank. Have you ever dealt with someone with dementia? It's sad, this person in most cases raised someone, taught them right from wrong, showed them how the world work, but their minds got damaged randomly and now they can't think. They can't process things. They are still themselves, they are still in the body, but all the intelligence is diminished and they only retain certain parts of their past. To call what the think tank are going through as insane or as dementia is taking it lightly, the Fluids in the jar is eroding their brains, the chemicals are keeping them alive but are wrecking certain parts of their brain functions to the point they may as well have super dementia. Dr. Borous, bullied in school, come home in tears with parents who didn't care, but he had his lovely dog Gabriel who would greet him, that dog was his freaking world. So when he became a scientist he did horrific experiments on the dog to further science, and Gabriel gladly accepted them, wagged his little tail, graciously loved his master. So after you put Gabriel down you can grab his dog bowl and hand it to Dr. Borous, there is something inside of him that wants to cry but he doesn't understand, if you don't pass his speech check he just pushes the thought out of his mind and forgets it, but if you do he shows utter regret, Dr. Borous is still inside that mechanized thing but he's a broken mess to the point he doesn't understand the nightstalkers and cassadores he created aren't locked up, and aren't infertile as they breed like rabbits, and they are everywhere. He just can't comprehend what he is doing is wrong. Those are my 2 cents, I hate when people downplay the think tank, I have watched 3 people go through dementia, and if you are an outsider looking in, it's funny, the old people are just stupid people who don't understand basic things. But these people were people, they were smart, life just sucks sometimes.
Ohhhh.. Dr. Mobius, and Mr house both mention that brains in jars aren't the best ways to preserve your life. I guess house did research before and found out if he did the same thing, he would eventually lose his intelligence as well. Dr. Mobius found out a little too late his friends were slowly become damaged. Heck when you talk to your brain you mention to it that if it doesn't go with you, it too will fall pray to the effects of the gel.
On your point about Cass' "Long Duck Johnson" joke. The consoomers and tourists conveniently forget why Cass pulls out that joke. Its essentially a sigh. Its part of her long rant about how civilian caravans coming from out West are getting massacred once they're in newr Vegas and the NCR with its bureaucracy so bloated even those willing to help can't because politicians and army top brass are too concerned with paperwork and looking good. Apparently. Slowly losing your livelihood and family legacy by getting robbed and murdered and not being able to do anything about it because of corruption is a hilarious topic for these drones.

The funniest thing to come out of all this is Todd coming out and saying they respect and do their due diligence with the timeline and lore and people believing him
You know the company that literally had the opinion we’re not beholden to something someone wrote 20 years ago and not caring about consistency in a franchise with the silly ghouls and super mutants

The people excusing the turret mini gun missing the lumbering doctor at point blank gave me whiplash

The same thing happened with the Bayformers, Star Wars, or the Marvel series of movies.

how many bethesda fanboys have you physically beaten
You are correct. All we all needed to do was gatekeep half as hard as the average NMA forum goer, and we would have been far better off.

I wholeheartedly agree, fans who really love a franchise definitely need to gatekeep in order to keep people out that will destroy the franchise or hobby, like fallout, Star Wars or even Dungeons and dragons.
@@dawsonh420It isn't. Gatekeeping is good.
I didn’t matter how hard we gate kept
Bethesda own the franchise and make the franchise for and market it towards the lowest common denominator
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
aside from gatekeeping, perhaps Fallout fans could try to give their vocal, and if applicable practical, support to likewise fan-made efforts which attempt to really capture what makes Fallout the franchise that it once was. stuff like Sonora/Dayglow and the attempt at a Van Buren remake don't get enough attention I feel. plus it's less money for the people who crank out this new slop

Especially ones that deal with a franchise that takes itself rather seriously, like fallout (or at least did.)
I mean, from what I can assume, you yourself are probably a fallout fan, that would mean calling yourself out on being a fallacy spouter.
I just wish they'd actually have a spine about it and not whine the moment they get criticized for it.)
And I say that from the point of somebody who in fact doesn't particularly like the show's direction.
I've found that that's mostly the non-bethesda fallout glazers

The show isnt a insult its a humiliation ritual.
Yes, I'm thinking Bethesda sends people or that bot that replied to the Starfield reviews into comment sections to try sway conversation.
They just REFUSE to see the point and try repeat the same talking points.
In my head I still have this idea for a better TV show consisting of three not connected seasons each telling their own story:

Wait, people actually defended the always four dialogue choice system when even the develops thought it was a mistake? The one thing in the game that had a mod made to show what you say only 5 days after the release of the game and is still the 9th most popular mod on NexusMods?
Yes, I actually saw folks do it.
Apparently "real fans" have to like every incarnation of the series.
The wider audience and its consequences have been a disaster for your franchise/hobby/entertainment.
Devs theses days were insulted all day by all medias, but they came to work because they love it.
Devs nowadays are 9 to 5ers.
We will never - ever - get good video games anymore.
I have no hope for this industry.
Give me one game in the past 3 years that dealt with rape trauma the way NV did it with that NCR chick. None. We are never getting adult stories, its all about fortnite fun now.
Gaming is over.

Fallout, at least in america, should have ended with New Vegas.)
If fallout were to continue as a franchise, i think fallout London is the right way to go about it.
Overall, I agreed with your points in the Fo Show review (still can't believe what they've done to the franchise), but i found the anger/insults to be a little excessive, you're making it easy for people who want to dismiss you
Can u blame him though it’s so infuriating the state it has reached
And you guys call us tribal
@@Robertpaulson431 Prove the writing doesn't suck, prove the characters don't suck. That isn't much of an argument. Bethesda hasn't had a real writer since..... never had a real writer. the show is all over the place, I've played the games from the first, way before bethesda ever aquired it by default. Bethesda doesn't understand the I.P. they aquired. Praising garbage doesn't make it any less garbage. When bethesda creates something good, I'll be there cheering them on with you but I don't see that happening any time soon.
@@vorlonanon4055 The creator of the first game disagrees with you
@@vorlonanon4055 you do realize that Bethesda and Todd Howard didn’t write the fallout show right during the production they had the executive producer role
@@Robertpaulson431 No ,they just rubber stamped it knowing that it made no sense the retcons made no sense, and the characters were a joke. Don't tell me you don't think they didn't have to green light this turd?
tbf fallout 2 was criticized for its unserious tone. this is because it included too many 4th wall breaking jokes and references. san francisco was so half-baked they were just like fuck it kung-fu. and having a faction just be scientologists was just bizarre and dumb. also redding plays way to hard into the old west tropes (same with mafia tropes in New Reno, among other things). fallout 2 redeems itself though because while there is a bunch of shit, the good parts put together probably make a bigger game than the original fallout, so its a true sequel. i've certainly played a lot of it.
in fact i might blame fallout 2 for the eventual shift in tone with bethesda.
Ironically enough fallout 3 is more true to fallout 1 in tone then fallout new Vegas is
@@empathetic4100 3's atmosphere is the best in the series imo. it's what got me into the games in the first place.

Told my friend i made it thru 3 episodes and didnt like the show. He said i need to "turn my brain off to enjoy it"
I'll repeat something I posted on another video about this: "We're constantly asked to turn our brains off to enjoy media... How about they turn THEIR brains ON for a change???" Demand better written shows!!!
I tried to turn my brain off to watch and I still couldn't get through the second episode.

Actually the reason why Franchises suck nowadays isn’t because people are stupid it’s because of copyright
