- These Big Fat Snare Drum heads are great for changing your snare sound in seconds. After the beginning demos there's more playing using BFSD Snare-Bourine starting from 2:55, grooves inspired by Bernard Purdie, Steve Gadd and Ash Soan.

Best bass drum ever.Full, attack, warm and full of bass.
Came for the snare. Stayed for the bass drum😍😍
Big Fat Snare Drum and Big Fat Bass Drum :)
One of the best low bass sounds I've heard on UA-cam.
That bass drum was so low it made my ears tingle
Haha! If I remember right I just boosted really low frequences from around 30 hz and that's why it sounds quite low even it's just 22x18 kick.
too bad my speaker only plays from 50hz :D
not as bad as you think... watching this video with my highend studio subwoofer and it's just too much on 40hz :-)
It gave me eargasms
Mine is lower
WOW that snare sounds good. No muffling. Super great tone
Your videos are some of the best out there in UA-cam land. You get your ego out of the way by not doing a bunch of talking or hyper-speed fills......and simply just grooving.
Thanks very much Bryan! A part of why i'm not talking is that i'm from Finland and my accent isn't so great that people would want to listen it :) And I can't play hyper-speed fills ;)
Thanks Kai. Direct, concise, concrete.
One of the best demonstrations I've seen for these "heads". Crisp audio, great drum sound and good playing! Was looking for a quicker solution than de-tuning my snare for songs like "Rough Boy" and "Purple Rain" - and I think this is it. Thank you very much ☺
Thanks Tom! Yes the BFSD original is the one you need for those songs. I noticed that Thomann has these in stock so that might be the easiest way to buy these heads.
I Love that Bass Drum, Nice!!
Your ability to play ghost notes is out of the world.
The stacked set with cranked snares is perfect for breakbeat stuff.
The grooves were beautiful in this video. Love the BFSD products as well. I have all of them.
That is the BASSIEST BASS DRUM drum I've ever heard!!!!!!!!!
Is that good or bad thing in your opinion? I remember boosting the low end around 35hz a little :)
KaitsuDrums in my opinion it's a good thing
Great! By the way I also had Yamaha Subkick mixed with Shure Beta 52 (mostly).
RealMuzic70 _ sounds great alone. how would it sound with bass and guitar?
RM70 _ mine is a lot deeper
Lovely sounding hihats...
Yes they are :)
I need them all! hope this is going to be my anniversary gift from the wife. lol
GREAT sound and playing. BFSD should pay you for this.
Thanks! I bought my heads from their webshop but I don't have any endorsements... I just like to play good sounding drums and cymbals :)
This dude can tune a kit. Damn. Great demo! I just ordered all three.
Those are some tasty beats!
Thanks John!!
0:06 that was some pure St. Anger right there.
Ian Burrow lmao
Your playing is a joy to listen to :-)
That's really cool stacking them like that. It really let the the rings on the tamborskin cut through. And the fast snare/ hat work at 4:07 was very nice
Great sounding Bass/kick drum ....
the bass has a fantastic sound, compliments.
Great demo video, as always, Kai. Bought a snare-bourine today. Looking forward to my next gig.
Genio! Qué talento!! tu técnica es perfecta. Saludos de Argentina
I like that these give more options on sound and they are pretty easy to take off and on when needed. I too like the snare wide open though - no muffling :)
damn your snare sounded so good without them, though!
Thanks, check out Longo walnut snares.
Right!! Just put a moongel and you’re golden
altie29 ikr
I hated it tbh
2:57 All I want to do when I wake up in the mornin is see your eyes rosannaaaaa slowed down Jeff P Rosanna shuffle that Brady kit sounds awesome too!
I instantly thought Rosanna as well :)
It's definitely a half-time shuffle, more like Bonham's Fool in the Rain though... which again inspired Porcaro.
1.25x Speed will make it better
That kit sounds awesome in my studio, dunno what mics he used but damn good sound where im listening from!
Cuz it's a fuckin' Brady. Best sounding drums I've ever heard. It's a fucking shame they went out of business a few years ago.
Girlish Goat so that explains why Shannon Forrest doesn't play them anymore best drums ever didn't know they went out of business
check out two other great Australian custom drum companies: Red Rock Drums and Evetts Drums..... both sounds as sweet as Brady........
That Brady kick is insane!!!! So sad that they closed shop. They made some amazing drums!
Top notch Purdie shuffle and Steve Gadd flutters
Thanks! You watched the whole thing :)
Havent tried these but gonna get them
this demo is fucking HEAVEN! love the sound, love the funk!
Thanks! Great that you liked it :)
This seems to be the best tuning to use under the BFSDs in my opinion. I've seen a lot of videos with really bad low and out of tune heads. The original really shines here.
Nice video! Great possibilities
Your ghost notes are fantastic.
Super awesome like it 💯💯💯😎✌️
150 000 views!! I never thought this video would be so popular... Thanks for watching and by the way I still haven't got any free heads from Big Fat Snare Drum ;)
Those who dislike are heretics!
Your job is vital. Immortally subbed to you!
Thanks Roman!
I achieved something of the same effect by using an Evans Hydralic (blue, blue is important, blue has a lower fundamental pitch over red), I put the Evans over a Remo Fiberskyn and it sounds huge, heavy and over the top. But bloody great.
Your base drum sounds amazing!!
fantastic!!!
The Kick is Awesome!
Uhhhhhhhh... Amazing chops. Steve Gadd- Jeff Porcaro type playing. Nice.
Thank you for doing this! You saved me $32!
that donut one sounds so good Now I want one lol
That kick though!
thumbs up just for the bass drum!
Ooooh that bass drum
Damm your kick drum sounded so good :). Can you maybe in the future make a vid on how you tune them? Loved it :)
Thanks! I think i just boosted really low frequences maybe 30 hz and also higher frequences like 5k and 8k. I might do tuning videos later.
+KaitsuDrums cool thnx
Muito bom esse produto!
Awesome, i want the "josh snare-bourine"...
Damn, that's T H I C C
Dang, I play a lot of tropical island music like Jimmy Buffett and the snare burin sounds really cool!
Lol you don't even need it your snare sounds delicious already🤣
Kai, may I ask what tuning frequency did you set for the batter head and what frequency for the resonant head? Loved the video. Thank you!
the bass drum is so deep
It's a deep sounding bass drum but part of this sound is boosted low eq.
Amazing!!! I want it ;)
When you put gel pads or dampening rings on it goes into LinnDrum territory. People use to put towels on drum kits to reduce the ringing.
Those heads sound awesome ! Not only do the fatten up the sound, they also add a slight electronic touch to it. Which model are your hihat cymbals btw ?
These hihats are 70's Zildjian 15" New Beats.
I think the Brady kit sound perfect as is.
Dope!!!!!!!
Not a fan but there may be a studio application? I like the natural drum sound myself. Good video though!
John Mayerin "Vulturesin" livevideossa Steve Jordan painaa menemään tuommosilla. Toimii pirun hyvin.
uau.... awesome
Thanks Nuno!
That sounds like a Pryda Snare ^^
please I beg you tell me all about that kick ass
sound of a bass drum
Brady... Spotted Gum.
How do they "feel" on the snare? Can you roll and articulate as normal or do you need to work it a bit more?
As a rock and metal player from the 80s I'm ashamed to admit that the tambourine one sounded entirely too good that I'll have to get one.
Dan, you need to work a bit more with doubles. The tambourine version is fun to play :)
Well, the pack is shipping today. :)
I appreciate your time and effort with the review.
Thanks Dan!
It's been about six months now and I've since gotten these and there's always one or another BFSD on my set. Usually the heavy (no-donut) is on the secondary snare at all times and more often than not the tambourine and donut are within reach for the primary snare. Your review really does them justice. I hope the BFSD folks appreciate your review because it's the only reason I felt good about buying them because your review was thorough and sounds spot-on for how they work. Thanks again, keep bangin.
rad dude :] btw theres no good jack johnson drum covers on here!!? please do one before i shame myself on here! hope your all good man!
Hi Kai, love your drumming but YT's messing with your Steely Dan covers. If you get it sorted I have a request by SD - I Got the News. Just trying to learn it is fun and I'd like to see you play it,
Thanks! I think all the SD covers will be blocked if I use the original track but there's great funky drumming by Ed Greene and he plays almost the same fill maybe 50 times during that track :)
+KaitsuDrums 😉 Ha yes. That fill and the transitions are probably why I like it so much. Nice vid here btw.
Great sound! It's somewhat hard for me to tell from the video, but do you think the BFSD does a good job of lowering the snare volume? Or would you say it just changes the sound?
Hi, it doesn't lower the snare volume too much, there are better products for silencing your drumkit.
OMG that kick...is it mixed afterwards or just really good? please tell me how you do (with muffle rings etc.) :)
Kick is mixed as well as everything else but it's also very good sounding 22x18 Brady kick. I have Evans pad inside and just Remo clear PS3 + logo head with 5" offset hole. So really basic stuff :)
Just one Emad pad inside? Is it touching the batter or the front head? How loose would you say the heads are? I have a 20 inch jarrah Brady. Thanks for your help.
Hi Ozzie, yes one Evans pad inside touching the batter head. Medium loose heads...I don't have other Brady kicks but would like to have 24" :)
Nice!
This thing works! BUT, you get the same effect by cutting the ring off of and old snare head and laying it on top of your snare’s current head. I did this, and cut a hole in the old head the size of the reverse dot, and added a gel under the old skin at the rim....PERFECT. UPCYCLE an old head and save some cash!
❤
Perfect demo buddy. I'm from India. Can anyone tell me Where can I get this Big Fat snare head? Any suggestions please?
Thanks very much! Maybe some online store or straight from BFSD?
fat bass drummmmmmmmmmmmm omgggggggg!!
I know I'm off subject but, the best sounding drum here is your kick, by a distance.
very very good bass drum ….
What's the groove/lick called at 4:08? I really want to learn that one. Great video!
i wish my drummer used it
Man those hats sound so nice , are those old new beats ?
Thanks Kelly, yes 70's New Beats, can't remember weights right now.
Who else's eye brows raised on that first kick beat at 0:55?
What head are you using on the kick?!
Do you have any idea what those tunings would be on a drumdial?
Kind of the hi hats?
These hi-hats are 1970's Zildjian A series 15" and top cymbal weight is 1006 grams and bottom is 1396 grams.
What evens head do you use for your snare?
yea man... that snare has a sick crack to it without! cool video tho
the note doesnt drop, its just an eq right?
Hi, the note really drops as you can hear at the beginning without the snares on. There's no eq tricks at all.
+KaitsuDrums i noticed the note drops a bit. but it mainly mutes the overtones and higher harmonics. any solution like that for a bass drum? it would need to be pressed against the batter head just like gravity does here.
Hi, I don't know about similar things for bass drum but I have seen somebody use tambourine version taped to bass drum for a special sound. I think you just need a bigger bass drum if you want to get lower sound or use extra thick heads.
I knew there was something great about pillows in bass drums. It's that effect of the pillow resting against the head that gives that dull sound.
@0:57 She told me her name was Billy Jean, and she caused a scene
people always told me
be careful what you do
dont go around making
young BOYS cry
I used an old ( undented) skin and cut it out of the ring, then laid it on the snare head for the same effect
I want Fat snare But I live in Suriname 😭😭
Hay
Lady's and gentlemen, we found St. Anger....
kuulostaa ihan kuoleelta
nobody going to mention how they got the kick to sound so fucking bassy tho?
Gadd 4:08!
Yeah, I copied that straight from Gadd :)
What do you call that groove?
0:23 0:37
Just take some old skin, cut them and you are served! I have done some different diameter size for much or little fatness/dampening
And if you have a double ply even better you have 2 head to work with!
The fattest sounding snare head i ever used was a emperor tuned stupid tight that tore about 3" where the mylar joined the flesh hoop totally 80s.
