I'm a 53 year old guy, sitting down to eat some toast and watch this random video. That line and her very very genuine emotion almost made me sob.

The second she realized he was going to make an appearance, Drew regressed into that adorable little girl we all fell in love with. She's one of those people you couldn't imagine everyone not loving her and yet she has had to face difficulties few of us could ever relate to or understand. Her success after overcoming the horrors of her childhood is a true testament to her strength and she inspires people everyday with it.

I believe so inmensely. Children should always be looked as children, and not as some objects to tell them what to do. It's always about bringing the wonder in them and see the world through their eyes. I think children have more intelligence and creativity than the average adult can be nowadays

Yeah, she writes about him so fondly in her books and you can just tell by the way her voice breaks that they have a special bond.

I think all those years ago, he saw this beautiful, talented little girl and he saw her potential flickering like a flame and he knew that, if left to be raised solely at the hands of her family alone, that flicker would be snuffed out sooner rather than later so I think he felt an obligation to 6-year old Drew to ensure that inner flame was nurtured and cultivated into the blazing fire we see in her today. He knew she needed him but through the years, as they've grown closer and into something more like family than friends, he learned that he had needed her just as much. Their friendship is so beautiful to me and I'm so glad they have each other.

I highly recommend the recent interview she did with Jeannette Mcardy. It's pretty clear she has very complicated relationships with her parents. It seems the reason she gave them was more for herself than for them.

Awe, this made me cry! Steven treated her like a "Father" that she truly wanted and needed as a child. This tore me up inside, my heart breaks for her. At least she turned around though and she's a better parent to her kids then her own parents.
I had a man in my life like him. He passed last summer to cancer and seeing this interview reminds me of our relationship. He stepped up and was fatherly to me because he was good and kind. I am the woman I am because he took me on as a fourth daughter.

Humans in general too, but children especially remember how you make them feel. Even if they don't know or fully understand the situations, they will remember who treated them as people, with respect, and on the flipside also those who ignored them or made them feel unwanted. I'm in my mid 30s now and I no longer remember the exact details anymore, but to this day I know exactly which uncle, aunt, cousin, whoever it may be that truly cared when I was growing up.

Drew is one of those people I will always hope for the best for. Her life hasn't been easy with her struggles with mental health and everything else that has happened.
Drew got me with the cry. There’s only a few people that pull on my heartstrings. And I really felt that from Drew. She really needed that parental reinforcement. She was a child and had to find that guidance and discipline and she is a success because she’s still here
When Drew cries, I cry. Because she doesn't cry in that fake way. It's real and its the essence of deep, authentic feeling which is healthy and healing. She is vulnerable like a child. I'm deeply moved by her story and her her emotional realness.

It feels real to me, this crying on a dime throughout her birthday episode, because I also have trauma in my childhood background. I have been brought to tears instantly by acts of love and kindness. That rawness feels just about right to me from my own experience.

My heart is full.

Aww that's sweet that she got emotional. I always thought that Steven seemed like a lovely person. I recently heard Ke Huy Quan say that he still sends him a xmas present every year, and has for 38 years! I think he still cares and thinks about people he's worked with over the years.

As someone who had a chaotic mother, having people who love you without limit and show you true gentleness and kindness is truly special. I named my oldest daughter after the two women who were great, kind, giving people. I strive to be the parent they showed me a person could be.❤
This is a true story... A friend of mine was at a mall in LA in the early 90s and saw Drew there shopping.
My friend couldn’t help but stare at her, but Drew turned and looked her then smiled and waved at her. She wasn’t snobby at all and seemed genuinely nice, and it meant so much to my friend to be treated so politely by a celebrity when no one was looking. I’ve always liked her after knowing that.
You can *feel* how much he loves Drew. He lights up talking about her and about how proud he is.
What a gift Spielberg gave her from a young age. The gift of loving enough to help bring out the best in another. I like how he made paper doll clothes and covered the exposed parts. She took that the way it was intended. 💟

I had a lucky chance of meeting Mr. Spielberg at my former job. He took an hour out of his day to talk to me and he was super friendly. Definitely one of the legends in the world of directors! And a nice, genuine guy too.

@Jalen Johnson Hi! I used to work in East Hampton Village in the Hamptons of Long Island in law enforcement. I was walking in the parking lot and he was leaving one of the stores with his wife Kate Capshaw (she was super nice too).
I went up to him and told him I was a fan. He asked my name, and the rest is history. I told him that I grew up with the Indiana Jones series and he told me that a fifth one was being developed. Bare in mind, this was in 2019 so I was one of the first to hear about it, in my words. 🤣 I told him that I enjoyed 1941, one of the movies he did that was a flop and he said "Wow, I never got that praise from anyone. People hated that movie". And talking about Jaws, Schindler's List, the list (no pun intended) goes on.
He was such a nice guy. If you didn't know his films or what he looked like, you wouldn't think he was famous. I also met Robert Downey, Jr. on his bike, Alan Alda and his wife and Alec Baldwin (years before the shooting incident). He was cool too. Didn't come off as a jerk like he does.

@Joy Underwood I told him how I grew up with the Indiana Jones series and how much I loved his 1979 flop "1941", which is probably his most underrated movie. He told me "Wow, not many people tell me that. You know I got crapped on for that movie. I thought my career was over. Then my buddy George (George Lucas) said that Raiders of the Lost Ark would help." It did. He's a funny guy too. He asked my name and shook my hand. He was so awesome.

My God, "the first person who cared about me." TOOK ME ALL THE WAY OUT!!!! I'm crying like a big azz baby! He was God sent to her and their relationship is wonderful. I love Drew and how far she has come and how she never gave up. God bless them.
I also was 6 in 1981 when E.T movie came out and Drew is like a friend that I’ve never met. She’s one of the best actors of our generation.
