- Recorded at the East Tennessee PBS studios in Knoxville, Tennessee, the Black in Appalachia crew had the distinct pleasure of talking with Dr. Cornel West, scholar, agitator and candidate for the Green Party presidential ticket. We talked affirmative action, youth mobilization, jazz, blues, and class solidarity (among a bevy of other really important subjects!)

I'm voting for Dr West because I hope it will push the democrats to do something substantial for black Americans. I couldn't care less for Hollidays or monuments. By 2053 black Americans will be wealthless. I'm not talking about income, I'm talking about wealth which is passed down from 1 generation to the next.

I am a 67 year old Caucasian senior female and I am all about the West campaign. He speaks for us all peeps not just people of color. He will be good for ALL OF US. I just changed parties from being a life time democrat to the Green Party so I can vote for him.

Love Dr West as he loves me even though he do oes not know me. He talks dignity which I find paramount. He is an intellectual who talks to and about the common people as an equal who never talks down to people but raises all.

Highlander Folk School in Monteagle, Tennessee was where a lot of civil rights activity started in the 1930s. Appalachia has a lot of good history of civil rights and labor. TY for having Dr. West on.

One thing I’ve learned about a good jazz improv musician is that they make sure they leave a lot of space in their playing - to make sure everyone gets their own individual space in the song.
Where did I learn that? From a bluegrass circle. Now, I’m more about jazz and blues in my musical approach, but I learned that from bluegrass players with a big respect for jazz improv.
This interview was amazing and should be shown on mainstream media… Sooo sad they won’t show such beautiful words on the mainstream… Thank you for the amazing questions you two amazing people asked. This is the first time I’ve seen you two beautiful souls but it won’t be the last..
I learned more in this interview than any other I have heard. If you're for anyone but yourself, Dr. West is speaking as real as it gets.

Cornel is a humanitarian not a politician. He believes ALL people deserve to be LOVED and treated humanly.
Dr. West is a human treasure.
He truly has a beautiful soul and his words flow through you like liquid melody.
That being said imma need the Dr to try being more specific about his policy positions or maybe directing us to a page on his website highlighting specific policy positions.
LOVE Cornel. His oratory is second to non. He will need straight up policy soon though. His broad stroke conversational style is terrific but eventually he will have to say I am going to do X,Y and Z and this is how I will afford it. All power to him.
He has done plenty interviews on record that expands on his intent xyz. I assure he is covered. Many blessings

My patrilineal roots are in Black Appalachia by way of Virginia since 1806, walking the Cumberland Gap behind a coffel no doubt. But this area is crucial in the Great Migration cultures of the Midwest, too. Thank you so much for seeing all of us! Black culture gets fragmented and sold out frequently. Can we raise one voice⁉️

Amen to the brother pointing out truth on how Christians should treat and see people because they are all God's people.
Dr West is a humanist who understands public policy, and that's more than I can say for any presidential candidate in my lifetime. Add to that his compulsive truthtelling and they will never, ever let him become president. But I will vote for him nonetheless.

One of Dr. West best qualities is talking to either sides. He needs to do a whole tour in Trump country. I think he would be suprised how many people be could get. Those people are hurting and Trump was the only politician talking to them. Bring a positive voice to them.

I saw this podcast and the part about the youth being more involved with voting was heartfelt, the music plays a hugh role in our youth mental thoughts, and all these local groups having the ability to reach out to the youth but don't because everyone is looking for one person to do it was a greater example of how our communities are failing. What I heard was, stop mass incarceration, use the military billions going to the wars overseas at home to lift up the poor and working class, medicare for all, infrastructure, power to the people through Unions and worker co-ops and keep the movement going so the people get to express their wants and needs from the Politicians with the President using the bully pulpit to reinforce the demands of the people and encouraging the voice of the people (being a rebel rouser). Actually, I might have heard some of this on some of the other interviews he has had as well.
I would gladly vote for West or Williamson as they both align with my values and sense of truth and justice better than Trump or Biden if those are going to be my options again in 2024. Great discussion, very informative and enjoyable.

No straight concrete answers. They were all uplifting and philosophical.
He is in the pide piper stage.
He has me on his side on the issues.
I think his actionable policies will be highly controversial when he finally says them out loud. I heard of one and it scared the centrists and right enablers.
I have faith brother west that our United power can move the needle.
