    Thank you so much Laura! I used this recipe on myself as well as my 16 month old, and it worked wonders! My family just went camping, and we were the only ones to not get eaten alive by mosquitos! I also really loved the fragrance! So nice! Will definitely be using this forever! :)

    I use Peppermint oil drops in water around my doors and windows to keep bugs and spiders out. Also, either peppermint oil (day) or lavender oil (night) in a diffuser to repel mosquitos and bugs while we are sitting in our porch swing. I just turn it on about 10min before going out. It's especially nice to smell the lavender while winding down on the porch at night....a lovely way to get ready for bed. Add a warm cup of fresh goat's milk and... zzzzzzzzzzz 😴

    Catnip is an excellent mosquito repellent! I grow catnip, harvest the leaves and flowers, chop them up, fill a jar with the leaves and flowers, then fill to the top with witch hazel. Let that steep for a few weeks.
    Mix 75% catnip infused witch hazel with 25% distilled water in a spray bottle. I add lavender and citronella or lemongrass essential oils.
    I'm going to get some cedar oil to add in for this summer. We get a lot of ticks in Maine!

    i was super excited about making this until i looked up IF it was safe for me, who is pregnant and expecting this week, to use this with baby.. but it definitely isnt. you are blessed you have not had complications with your children if you use this on them, as just the eucalyptus and rosemary would make this a NOT until 10+ years old can use them. If you come out with a bug/ tick spray that is effective and would be safe for breastfeeding mothers and infants in future, i would be incredibly thankful. Peace/ Salam.

    Aside from the Cedarwood that you explained what did each of the essential oils do. It seems like i have heard Patchouli and Petitgrain are also good bug repellents, is that true? Thanks Laura! 😍

    Hi Laura!
    I just have a few questions:
    1. I unfortunately won’t be able to use Witch Hazel; can I just substitute water instead? Or is there another ingredient I should substitute?
    2. Just wondering, where you get your recipe from? Only because I’ve been asking and researching a homemade recipe to use on my 16 month old and have found that SO many different essential oils are suggested; there seems to be no common oil recommended. However, I follow your blog and trust in your experience! Just thought I’d ask.
    3. Is it okay to put these recipes with essential oils in plastic bottles? I know glass is ideal, but it would still work okay in plastic?
    Thank you so much Laura for your time and attention! God bless you!

    • @ouroilyhouse
      @ouroilyhouse  6 років тому +1

      Stephanie Brown You can use water instead of witch hazel.
      You can cut the essential oil dose in half for your baby. I use this on my kids all the time and never had issues. The kind of oils you use makes a big difference. I did a lot of research before choosing doTERRA and feel very comfortable using these oils on my children.

    • @ouroilyhouse

    • @ouroilyhouse
      @ouroilyhouse  6 років тому +1

      Thank you! Citronella is extracted from various species of lemongrass which is what I use in my spray. Citronella could be added instead of lemongrass and still work great!

    Hello, I'm looking for a natural way to repel spiders from my home! I'd like for it to be safe for babies as I have a 1 year old daughter that is all over the place!
    Thank you for the bug spray recipe!

    • @ouroilyhouse
      @ouroilyhouse  6 років тому +2

      Mattie Mast Peppermint is the best essential oil for spiders! You can put a few drops in a spray bottle with water and spray around doorframes, windows, and basement. Also add a couple drops on a cotton ball and place cotton balls under couches and in areas you think spiders are getting in.

      Hi 👋🏻. Please DO NOT USE THIS ON YOUR CHILD! A simple google search: 'Is Eucalyptus safe for Infants' immediately tells you the WHOLE way down the page, every single link says NO! Peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary are all to be avoided in younger children because they contain 'cineol 1,8' and 'menthol'. they say peppermint is safe at 6+ years, but ALL eucalyptus and rosemary oils should be avoided until 10+ years old. I hope this helps. Salam.

    I’ve heard from so many people about how harmful it is to put essential oils directly on your skin or on your skin at all even in something if it isn’t diluted enough. Especially on your kids. This seems like A LOT for that little bottle. Do you have any knowledge or opinion on this??

    • @meganwright2738
      @meganwright2738 6 років тому

      Also is this something that needs to be washed off like other bug sprays?

    • @kaylajo1
      @kaylajo1 6 років тому

      This is well diluted. with 40 drops of EO in this recipe thats less than half a teaspoon so the dilution is about 1:48. If that makes you uncomfortable to use on your kids, especially if they are younger then just add less. I would start with half and just see how it works!

    • @ouroilyhouse
      @ouroilyhouse  6 років тому

      I do use it on my kids and we haven't had any issues. You can cut down on the oils if you want and see how it works or spray on clothing. I do always suggest diluting when using on kids.

    • @ouroilyhouse
      @ouroilyhouse  6 років тому

      Deb Lairson Yes this is so true! Many oils aren’t pure even when they say they are...oils aren’t well regulated so you have to make sure your buying them from the right places! This is the main reason I use dōTERRA. They have a great testing and sourcing system so I know exactly what I’m getting.
