    This recipe definitely works and I've tried it! I live in a hot Mediterranean climate with 35+degrees temperature and we didn't get a sunburn! My fiance is Irish and his skin is much more sensitive to the sun than mine and he didn't get sunburnt with this recipe! People saying that this recipe doesn't work are either lying or didn't buy a quality zinc ingredient. The only thing I would suggest that would be helpful to viewers is that for cleaning up the equipment I recommend using paper towels to clean up the grease from the utensils and bowls because hot water just didn't wash away the cream from the items and was so difficult to remove...but wiping it away as much as possible with papers towels helped ALOT. Thank you for this recipe and I appreciate your channels so much!

    • @BumblebeeApothecary

      Shea butter is harder than coconut oil, so I don't think you could substitute them. If you did, you would need to increase the liquid oil to get the right softness. I get clothes a lot of places, and got some here: www.pntrs.com/t/TUJGR0VORUJGTkpHTUZCRkxMR0ZF

      Good thoughts. I have a blog post on this, actually, and I share some thoughts. For example, I don't think we should use homemade sunscreen the same way people use conventional sunscreen. I think that responsible sun bathing is the best way (gradually work up a tan, eat antioxidant rich foods to nourish and protect skin from the inside out, use shade and clothing) and only use a natural homemade sunscreen when out in the sun for an abnormally long time. :)

    Do you add Zinc Oxide in before adding the heat? I watched so many DIY video, most of them add Zinc Oxide right at the end when the oil and beeswax are not as hot. So do you think overheating won't change the element in Zinc oxide?

    • @BumblebeeApothecary

      I don't think it changes the elements, but adding it last after the oils have cooled some would help it stay suspended and not settle to the bottom as it cools :)

    You are giving false information. Zinc oxide is extremely hard to work with. The reason why they make modules smaller so it works better doesn't clump. Sunscreen is considered a medince.
    By adding different oils and things you are also causing it not to work, because it's highly sensitive.

    Hello,
    Thanks for sharing your method and links to the ingredients. I made the sunscreen and it has too much white colour and doesn't rub in. Do you have any suggestions on how to create the sunblock without the white component?
    Thank you,
    Kristina Camaj

      It's common for it to not rub in if you're using too much. I would try using less :)

    How did you determine that this cream has an SPF of at least 30?
    A DIY sunscreen is so dangerous. How do you stable the ph-value? How do you distribute the zink oxide without a coting?
    This is not safe for babies, kids or even adults.

    • @BumblebeeApothecary
      @BumblebeeApothecary  4 роки тому +8

      It's worked great for us for years. That is the combined SPF of the individual level for each of the ingredients. I recently tried a store bought natural version, and it didn't work as well as my own.

      @@lova368 It doesn't matter that you added 15% spf solution to your base, because depending on formulating (and many other factors), the spf level at the end may be even at 0. It's dangerous to use a diy sunscreen. It always contains oil with can lead to sun burn or just sun related skin damage in future (fact that you don't see any negative results right now, doesn't mean that they are non). It's even more dangerous if you put it on babies. Very important thing also is that zinc poorly formulated just doesn't protect the skin. It's impossible for someone at home to make SAFE SPF. Just use right ones, that are already tested, well formulated, with ingredients that suit you. Don't even try to do DIY ones, coz you may pay for it in the future.

      You’re wrong because the MAIN ingredient IN sunscreens is Zinc Oxide...go ahead and indulge yourself in the machination of products containing carcinogenic additives and preservatives others are in here to learn because they’re intelligent & open minded and don’t just go ally with paid advertisements or companies that own the manufacturers of sunscreen which is probably Big Pharma amd dermatologists lol...and the cure for skin cancer is a salve I can make that o made and cured by dads skin cancer entirely...

    This video is dangerous and should be taken down. I don't understand why youtube doesn't ban "tutorials" like this. It's VERY dangerous. More dangerous than using "toxic" spf from stores. Do not try this especially on babies! Read and learn before showing people stuff that can lead to cancer or sun burns... irresponsible

      Increase the beeswax amount or sub more tallow for one of the liquid oils - tallow stays solid at higher temps and beeswax will give it more stickiness without becoming crumbly.

    Hi, firstly thanks for this great video. I want to ask an alternative of Beeswax, for vegan purpose. Can Candelilla wax replace beeswax as water proof agent in this preparation? Plz suggest, it'll be great help. Plz let me also know an approximate SPF of this product as i have a very tan prone skin. I would also like to know what can be added to this preparation to make it more moisturizing. Plz respond.

    • @BumblebeeApothecary
      @BumblebeeApothecary  2 роки тому

      I haven't tried candelilla wax, but I am guessing it would work well! I would use less, because it is harder than beeswax. With all of the ingredients combined, from my research the SPF is at least 30. Most of the ingredients are highly moisturizing. I also have a tallow sunscreen recipe: ua-cam.com/video/BrnTxqljNnU/v-deo.html
