Just a FYI: DEET was never intended (and should NEVER be used) for topical (skin)application. It was designed for the military to put on the exterior of soldiers uniforms. Pretty sure the label has a warning on it, at least it used to.
Yeah DEET is in many bug sprays now and unfortunately even if you just spray it on your clothing you'll still be fully exposed to the toxins as it off gasses.

My Cuban Oregano grows like crazy & smells WONDERFUL when I happen to bump up against it. It's all the way down at my ankles, the aroma is just that strong! Will it be EFFECTIVE against mosquitoes & biting flies? There's so MANY nasty biting bugs down here in Tampa Bay Florida State!!! Thanks for Your FASCINATING channel btw!!! Mosquitoes have been crazy here with all the rain and gray days we've had. I have yarrow and some catnip (kitties have been at the nip a lot).
I'll have to see if i can get witch hazel by the gallon! Locally, i see it only on smaller bottles.

I have been successful in keeping bugs at bay with Lemon Grass, Geranium & Citronella (essential oils) mixed in my palm into drops of Vitamin E oil and rubbing it under my arm pits, elbow bend, as well as at the base of my head/hairline and rubbing it into my hair and wherever on my arms. Seems to be working! But I will have to try your method. Thanks.

Must have been a fluke, for sure didn't do it on purpose 😂 unfortunately no you'll not want to use it on pets, especially cats as their liver can't process out plant phenols.

Happy birthday!!! This video came at the perfect time. I was literally looking for a way to make a bug spray without essential oils and this is absolutely perfect. I'm so allergic to mosquitoes that I get giant painful welts anytime I'm outside around dusk and not fully covered head to toe in heavy clothing (which is so unbearable this time of year). I grow tons of basil, mint, rosemary, thyme, sage, and lavender. I also have a beautiful wild mugwort who found her way to my lawn this year. Definitely going to use some of these to help!
