Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet was what got me into soundtracks. Kissing You - Des'ree Little Star - Stina Nordenstam Everybody's free to feel good/wear sunscreen - Quinton Tarver What a time !!
Phenomenal picks from all 3 here. Dobbins got Scream which automatically catapults her to the winning spot but overall I think CR takes this one for me. Also I would put my paycheck on either Sean or CR drafting From Dusk till Dawn 😅
It took me forever to realise that the First Wive's Club wasn't about like, the first ladies of the US lmao. Like I, an australian, fully just thought it was a movie about the wives of former american presidents.
In The Rock, it was indeed shown as Candlestick Park, but it was supposed to be a Raiders game in Oakland. It's weird, but since it's a movie, I don't mind it. Great effing movie. Also Sean Connery and Michael Bay both basically agreed that John Mason is James Bond.
We really need chapters. I know some listeners like the random conversation, others would appreciate conveniently skipping ahead to what they are looking for.
Romeo & Juliet was the Shakespeare Play for the English exams in Scotland that year and the movie came out a week or so before the exam. Best 2 hours of exam revision i have ever done. Never been in a thertre before where the entire audience were all the same age, dont think there was a single person there not taking the exam the next week.
This why I love you all: I had to watch First Wives Club with my mom in that time, also watched Dennis Miller until he freaked out politically after 9/11 and NO ONE talks about Abel Ferrara's the Funeral these days, basically what David Chase wishes Many Saints of Newark was, The Funeral is pretty much time period Sopranos 3 years before The Sopranos and even has a bunch of Sopranos actors in it. I own a DVD of it but some generous human just uploaded it on UA-cam last year and it's still up, highly recommended to anyone reading this who hasn't seen it.
I just watched From Dusk til Dawn on cable last night thinking...man, I love this movie!! It's so bad/awesome. And we had to watch City Hall in my ethics class in college.
The idea that any of you in this comment section are listening to this podcast purely for the movie drafting and not for the elite vibes is crazy to me.
I went into From Dusk Till Dawn with my then girlfriend knowing next to nothing about it (those were the days) but I had loved Pulp Fiction (duh). She hated it so much she said "I'll never go to the movies with you ever again!" That statement was correct.
I haven’t watched yet. One of them better draft The Birdcage and Stealing Beauty. Directed by two masters, Mike Nichols and Bernardo Bertolucci! They always end up picking blockbusters first, I’m Twister, Independence Day, Jerry Maguire, and M Impossible 1 will be the first four picks. Maybe Sean will pick Fargo in the first round, maybe Amanda will do The English Patient. The Birdcage is a much cleverer, more interesting comedy than anything else this year. And Stealing Beauty is a lovely coming of age story, with that precarious feeling of messing up as you first fall in love and consummate it
yall gotta change it up with these great movie years. theres no conflict, everyone ends up with most of the movies they wanted. gotta make it harder somehow
When Amanda mentioned the Seinfeld episode. Elaine was the only person, who didn't like The English Patient. Then her boss, Mr. Peterman made her go to the movies to see it. And she was yelling at the screen, "stop telling your stupid story in the desert and just die!" LOL! I really didn't care for that movie. I agree with Sean! Jerry MaGuire and Fargo are better movies. Chris should see The First Wives Club. Even if it's just once.
@Flike245 "Vile" is a bit much, some of the earlier films pre-2000 are very tolerable. "Happy Gilmore" is a great "rainy day" movie along with "Billy Madison."
Amanda never watched From Dusk Till Dawn, that's crazy to me, and CR describing Salma Hayek's dance "A long striptease with cobra or something..." Really CR, freaking cobra? Yikes!
@votdfak One of the reasons why I don't think Amanda should be on here. She hasn't seen quite a few big films that you'd assume she should have seen if she gonna be on here acting like an authority on film. I don't "hate women", I just think you should be as qualified as possible and she's not and she mostly just talks about her own personal bullshit.
@votdfak When the guys bring up "Lone Star" she acts like, 'Oh my God you guys' as if that's such a ridiculous thing. Then she's clearly looking up "Lone Star 1996" on Google or something, then says "great movie." I do not believe she's seen the movie.
@@RachelDavis705 everything... action boring, music annoying, the cast, the story... I know twister is not realistic, but the new one was so stupid, I'm still not sure what their plan was...
I feel like Sean's picks rarely reflect the kinds of movies he talks thoughtfully about in the Ringer podcasts. He has a 4 pick stretch here of Happy Gilmore, That Thing You Do, The Rock, and Independence Day. Only one of those movies (That Thing You Do) is generally held in higher regard with critics than it is with audiences, yet in the podcast discussions Sean generally comes across as somebody much more aligned with the critics, and the more "artistic" side of the discussion to the point of coming across as the gatekeeper of that vibe among his pod peers.
@@jimbob8840Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever tuned into these draft episodes for the picks. Half the time I don’t even remember them until they recap at the end.
As a woman who is also a film lover, it makes me sad sometimes to see this widely viewed podcast featuring a woman who doesn't even seem to know many movies. I'm a year younger than her, and even though I may not have seen all of these as an 11 year old, I was familiar with most of them and have over the years seen most of them.... Maybe they should talk about what movies they plan to discuss before the show, so everyone can at least be prepared for the episode? And I get it, she has other things going on in life, she's pregnant, etc... but this is her job, right? I just get so bummed when women are in cool positions like this, but they don't even care. Nerd culture was largely a boys club and so many of us came up being ostracized or pegged "weird" for being passionate about our hobbies and perhaps not knowing any other girls to share it with. I just hate to see an opportunity wasted on someone who is indifferent
Chris, I'm also not an Adam Sandler fan. I'm sure he's a solid person, a decent actor, and lots of people find him funny, but his comedy just isn't my thing at all.
Chris definitely won and Sean definitely loss. Chris got 3 great movies. Sean didn't even get one. I could easily name a dozen films from 96 better than anything on Sean's list. And the fact that possibly the greatest living director had a movie this year and they didn't even mention it is a travesty.
Sean nailed the Mets playing the Phillies
he called his shot
Big sigh. The Phillies are so damn disappointing
The Mets are, in fact, playing the Phillies.

Amanda said "I know we turned things around, but can we turn it around again". I'm taking that
Big Pic working overtime to get these extra Amanda episodes in while she's on leave, love it 😊
Astounded that Sling Blade was such an afterthought.
Targaryen vibes. Chris that made me laugh out loud in a room alone.
Dude, I was looking for this comment. I'm laughing my ass off at work & everyone's looking at me. Thanks for the chuckle, CR
Amanda kept saying "it's nice" and just hoped everyone would agree and Chris couldn't let it stand haha
The Lone Star pull was the steal of the draft, good going CR
Just watched that a couple nights ago
Rip Kris
Agreed. Phenomenal movie with big emotional payoffs.
Haven't seen it in ages. Great movie.
Baz Luhrmann's Romeo & Juliet was what got me into soundtracks.
Kissing You - Des'ree
Little Star - Stina Nordenstam
Everybody's free to feel good/wear sunscreen - Quinton Tarver
What a time !!
Trainspotting is a sometimes humorous dark drama. When a baby dies due to neglect that's how you know it doesn't fall under the category of comedy.
Phenomenal picks from all 3 here. Dobbins got Scream which automatically catapults her to the winning spot but overall I think CR takes this one for me.
Also I would put my paycheck on either Sean or CR drafting From Dusk till Dawn 😅
Batman & Robin (1997), not Batman Forever (1995) had Poison Ivy. Batman Forever had Tommy Lee Jones, who could not sanction Jim Carrey's buffoonery.
CR paying homage to the late Kristofferson unknowingly few months in advance… ya love to see it

@@joecallahan3692 they still said the drummer got enlisted.
I'd be drafting some of these pics:
Flirting with Disaster, Big Night, Hard Eight, Welcome to the Dollhouse,
Was honestly surprised Hard Eight wasn't taken.
In The Rock, it was indeed shown as Candlestick Park, but it was supposed to be a Raiders game in Oakland. It's weird, but since it's a movie, I don't mind it. Great effing movie.
