The biggest flaw with the ISD was in doctrine.
The 72 TIE fighters were intended to be the ISD's point defense system.
Overly aggressive commanders (most) used theTIEs as an offensive unit leaving the ISD vulnerable to starfighter attack, as seen in the Battle of Scariff.
That was the reality check that lead to the addition of anti-starfighter armerment
I love the imperial class star destroyer one of my top ten favorite ships in star wars
The ISD either I or II were really front line battleships, even though they were never called that, and sadly were never treated as such in movies.
A single ISD had more than enough firepower to blast two of the Rebel's most powerful MC80's and still have firepower to spare, and enough fighters to defend itself.
The only time we actually see a single ISD mutilating an entire rebel fleet, was at the end of Rogue 1 when Vader's Devastator appeared and just utterly wasted the entire Rebel force, when previously 2 other ISDs or the Gate Station couldn't do it.
Crazy when you think about it, according to Wookiepedia, a single ISD needed around 37,000 crew, and with 25,000 of these ISD's around, that means on average to crew all of the Imperial Navy's ISD's they needed 925,000,000 crew for just these ships.
The ISD was a fantastic ship when used correctly. They had two at scariff and got destroyed. Then Vader shows up with just 1 and wrecks the entire alliance fleet. Same thing at Endor. If the entire fleet had just engaged the rebellion there wouldn't have been a fleet left by the time the deathstar shields went down.
Admiral gorin was waiting for reinforcements but yes he could have used his 2 Star destroyers to destroy them all
I love and respect the Imperial class Star Destroyer and will hear no disrespect towards this ship from the Venator fans.
This is one of, if not the most famous capital ship within the galaxy. I don’t care what the Rebel propaganda or the clone wars era Republic fan boys have to say, this is a magnificent ship that does its job well.
A much more powerful, armored, and survivable ship than the Venator.
It’s a good ship, top 5 for me
It was an excellent warship when used correctly with the proper escorts.
But on its own without support it was very vulnerable to small strike craft.
Sorry to say but there were quite a few people in the empire who were aware of the Yuuzhan Vong's existence.
To name the ones I can recall quickest, Grand Moff Tarkin, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Darth Vader. There were other who were aware, but it was akin to an inner circle in numbers.
So while the galaxy as a whole was ignorant of the Vong, Palps was not the only person aware of them.
Oh, the entire Chiss Ascendacy and the races of the Empire of the Hand knew of them too
Yes you are right. Many of the Emperor's associates knew about the Wongs. But for the rest of the leadership of the Empire this still remained a secret.
The best review of the best star wars ship I have seen.
Thanks!)
I like your addition of the theory I share the same view that Emperor Palpatine did all that to combat the Yuuzhan Vong
From what I heard, the Imperator-class Star Destroyer was declared as a predecessor to the Imperial I class.
Yes, the Imperator was an early version of Imperial-I. Based on it, Kuat developed and put it into production Imperial-I class
I like seeing the USS Enterprise in the video along with the Pillar of Autumn from the Halo universe.
This is the video I've been wanting for a long time. How do you not have millions of subs?
UA-cam algorithms)
Thing is, it's not a dedicated battleship. I wish Star Wars would work more with specialized ships. It's okay to have jack of all trade command ships like Super Star Destroyers. But I miss dedicated battleships, battlecruisers and super carriers, troop transports, etc. as "grunt units".
Allegiance class battlecruiser, textor class capital ship, prosecutor class heavy cruiser are all warships that sacrifice hangers in exchange for more weapons and armor
Those are just modified existing designs. I was more thinking of dedicated designs from the ground up.
@@Alpha_Digamma while the tector is from same design of the ISD, the allegiance and prosecuter are purpose built, you could possibly include the preator as well considering its sheer size and firepower
Imperial star destroyers are intimidating, but they have many flavs. One of them is relativly small fighter complement. Now someone would say that 72 is enough, perhaps but those fighters were primary to be used as ISD defense, although many commanders would use them in offensive role. Now what if you lose most of fighters? ISD II is not really equiped to handle bombers. Bombers can disable or destroy ISD quite fast. On the other side you have smaller but highly versatile Venator. While Venator is in most cases used as carrier and can really carry a ton of fighters, around 400-420, comparing to 72 of ISD that is huge. You can easly have half in offensive and half in defensive role. Yes Venator have less weaponry and armour but it is faster and more manuverable. Now even more focused ship to ship version of Imperial class, Tector which has big weakness lack of any fighters as it is not having hangar for them. It need escorts, but what if enemy penetrate the defense line, or destroy them, Tector is finished. Tarkin doctrine is biggest flaw. Navy was to be used only "effectivly" till Death Star is completed, as it is believed noody would dare resist the empire, no that is wrong, You destroy Alderaan, you destroy any other planet and galaxy will rally to destroy the threat. What wen DS is destroyed, Navy would not be able to stop insurgency. ISD's are ill equiped to take on such insurgency,, no matter that they are well armed and dangerous ships. Usage of smaller Victory/Arquitens class would be much better combo. Bigger do not usually mean better. And to add, if Venator had sliding hangar doors on lower side, it may be better then on upper deck, still been a hybrid of heavy cruiser/carrier isnt that bad. Empire could have ISD as main warship but they should keep Venator as carriers.
This video was great, there was lot of facts mentioned I didn’t know, 👍😄
Excellent video, i wish you didn't use A.I voice, you have a lot of potential with this video especially with long format as its rare. I'll wait for your future cover on immobiliser and interdictor, AT-AT and Raider corvette.

those are not aircraft, they are spacecraft.
Yes, but in Star Wars many fighters and bombers are dual-mode - that is, they can fly both in space and in the atmosphere. So they can be called both aircraft and spacecraft
@@_Nordy_ True, but many large scale ships, like star destroyers, can also operate in atmosphere. That doesn't make them aircraft, it makes them spacecraft. A comercial airliner has motorized wheels to manuever on the ground, but we don't call it a car, we call it a plane that happens to be on the ground.
@@ghostsauce3463 Yes you are right. Well, I will try to replace "aircraft" with "spacecraft" in new videos!
I thought MetaNerdz video was detailed, but my god have you done a good job
👍👍👍👍👍
7:23 Oops, the Enterprise warped into the wrong franchise. :)
Colt produced the M16, but Bushmaster produced the M4
Bushmaster marketed commercial models loosely reverse engineered from Colt's carbine models, including the Army's select fire M4 and M4A1 adopted in 1994... so yes, but... Bushmaster ripped off Colt's products and never got a government contract.
@@johnemmert9012 I only made that point because he says Bushmaster and Colt both produced the M4 carbine.
Hey bro can you explain about resurgent class star destroyer of first order
Gimme a VSD-2
In star wars empire at war i only build star destroyers
ISD was hot garbarge give me 1 Venator with a full flight compliment I could take a ISD flotilla with one ship
No

Thanks for your honest opinion!
Wtf. Was this written by an AI? This is almost impossible to listen to.
