Thanks a lot, man! No too many quality videos like yours for the E63, so I’d love to see all the video on this. More please!
This was great!! Thank you for explaining things as you did and getting right into it! You probably just nailed 2-3 issues I'm having with my 645ci. I wish I had a lift and garage like that! Very informative and much appreciated!
I love this content..bc a 650i is on my bucket list! Thank you!
Great job.
It is basic and very interesting.
A suggestion. When i go to the "Big box stores", I pick up the large corrugated cardboard sheets that they use to separate pallets of products, like water, canned goods etc. They give them away for free since they have to toss them. i put them on the floor to catch the mess. then fold/toss them.
20 with my dream car and these videos are inspiring me to believe that its not impossible to do some of this myself :)
Really good video no excess verbage and easy to follow
Changed my mom’s E60 550i ATF a few years ago inspired by your E39 videos. This was also before the Valvoline Maxlife full synthetic became popular so I had to research and sorta take a chance. It’s like cheap unicorn blood. Still running like a beaut! Also the filter was inexpensive from Amazon and miraculously it fit with no leaks lol. Had to reuse 2 bolts though because it was short or I may have lost a couple. The engine has similar small leaks as yours. Maybe I will raise it up, unbutton the covers, wash it away and search for it. Maybe not lol.
650i is a beautiful car awsome video
Great video!
Great video, real helpful 👍 the gum chewing is really irritating though 😂 keep up the vids, helped me out loads so far!! 😎👌
What if you have a manual N62? Should you ever touch trans fluid?
would very much like to see the top video mine currently doesn’t work and i’m not sure how to diagnose what’s going on with it and i’m not gonna take it to the stealership
Nathan I have a n52 engine when I turn on the heater the low coolant light comes on? You have any ideas
Doing my 650i now
I’m only doing a drain and fill with replacing the pan. So you’re saying only put 3q of ATF in? It recommends 7q, please help me out! Thanks
When did you get this bad boy? Love the open car!
Can you make video replacing mechatronic on 2007 bmw 650i
Couldn't catch what Transmission Fluid you used. Please advise as I have to do this over the weekend. Thank for the video. Subscribed
Why didn't you clean the solenoid screens while you were in there?
nice, I just wanted to get the torque setting for the sump bolts but landed up watching the whole vid haha.
and even though it was cut from the vid im almost certain that drain plug for the oil filter housing didnt wana come out 🤣
How do comments happen before finishing the video .
I just finished it ;)
Just saying
Good job Nate
Lead by example . No clicking through the video watch it through everyone 😘
What transmission fluid did you use?
What if I started before I put 3 quarts in it I was putting it in had about 2 quarts in but I have it off ground but it won't come out of park I did not get it hot so I need to wait to get it hot for it to flush cause I can't put any more then 5 quarts before it starts pouring out side
Nice. I'm gonna go check one out tomorrow with only 52,000km supposedly... Gotta see dealer records. It's coupe and beige. Not that great but at least it doesn't have the SMG in it. But the low mileage it's basically brand new. 2008
Good luck, man! Hope it's as good as it sounds.
@@Usy122 unfortunately it wasn't. I don't understand how people don't care about them. It had a small. Front end damage before. They kind of fixed it. Not at 100% but it looked ok. But when I opened the coolant reservoir guess what? WATER was in it... That right there started turning me down. Oil hasn't been changed in 5 years. Inside the engine look pretty silver I liked that. Obviously oil leak underknee but what bmw doesn't leak oil? Interior brand new. But problems with the steering and the pump Made a little noise. Besides that all good but seems it hasn't been cared since the accident. They want $12,500 I don't know if it's even worth offering $10k for it. Because it already has problems with the steering. On pump and also showing on the i drive
Why is my floor and back seat feel hot it's underneath my 645 ci I think it's transmission oil pan gasket issue
Man thank you for your awesome videos and sharing your knowledge. I have a 2011 328i sedan N52 GA6HP19Z transmission with 125k miles. I’m planning on doing this job myself. Do you recommend using the valvoline maxlife transmission oil or the ZF fluid from ecp euro?
prob fcp euro, have a bmw tech buddy and he has converted me to their stuff
Why the gasoline smell in the oil? Leaky injector? overly rich mixture?
Wait you ware pouring transmission fluid from red container what fluid was that you didn’t use ZF BMW recommended fluid 😳 ????
Valve stem seals on mine are bad still have to get to work
I'm puzzled - Q for anyone. Just did the transmission fluid change on wife's e64 - filter kit came with new bolts, which look aluminum - and thought nothing of it as many aluminum bimmer bolts need to be replaced when servicing, however, what through me for a loop is that they are actually steel when i put them in my magnetic tool pan!! Furthermore they only need to be torqued to a max of 10NM - (which is nothing for a steel bolt) - so why in heavens do they they need to be replaced?
Surprised you didnt open the fill plug slightly as the oil was draining...to create a vacuum
I have little transmission oil leak ( I think it’s from the transmission line ) so but it’s really small, I’m wondering can add fluid to the transmission from the top ? ( when you pull the Measure strap under the hood , from there )
Or only from the bottom?
And thank you 🙏
Yea same question
I have similar leak issue on 2007 550i, same engine, same mileage 120/130ish, interested to see what you find.
Same 06 650i E64
Did I miss Nathan changing the filter prior to installing the new drain pan? ??
the filter is intergrated into the OEM pan. You can buy after market pan with a separate filter if you are racing your car, but as for OEM its built in.
Nathan, I have a 2007 BMW 650i with 125,600 miles on the engine. I bought it used 5 years ago and I was thinking of changing the transmission fluid but there is no evidence that it has ever been changed before. People have told me that if you change it regularly, then it's ok to change it but if it's the original transmission fluid, then changing it might invite more problems and do more harm than good. Can you give me your professional opinion of what you would do if this was your vehicle? Thanks in advance. Tom R.
Do a simple pan drop then refill. I wouldn't do a flush
This is probably to late but for others sake. A simple transmission fluid and pan change is fine at 60k mile intervals. Whereas I'd recommend a full service at every 120k mile interval by replacing the fluid, pan, and all the mechatronics seals. You could also consider replacing the solenoids, as part of the full service in being pro-active. Otherwise, it's possible you may never have to replace the solenoids but once you feel some slippage; it'll need to be part of a full service.
I've spoken extensively with ZF technicians and the transmissions are very strong and robust. They need to have a maintenance schedule though irrespective of what BMW and some others state. BTW, those who experienced issues after changing the fluid for the first time were destined to experience the same issues even if they had not changed the fluid. Their original fluid was just delaying the inevitable. Because parts are suffering from wear and they are going to fail at some point irrespective. Being pro-active and having a maintenance schedule is best though because you are less likely to suffer from a catastrophic failure. Good luck!
What year is this car?
Yup I change all that on mines
My n52 shutdown random standing no
power no nothing. After the power comes back the date and clock resets, what could be? Where
should I look? The battery is 3 years old
And while I drive it shutdown for exemple I go with 60 miles or any other speed and is remains without power. Nothing works for few seconds. No hazard, no light nothing..
Had similar experiences happen years ago (E60 550i). For me, it was a weak dying battery. Less than 5yrs old I believe. It’s very voltage sensitive. Start with cleaning and retightening the terminals. Have the alternator and battery tested. Replace battery if necessary.
I'm a bit confused. I've heard you shouldn't be changing transmission oil in your BMWs. Can anyone explain this?
On the car it says its lifetime but we know better , no oil is life time thats why we change it
BMW states is lifetime because they want to shrink investments and they do not care what happens after warranty expiration... ZF company clearly says change every 100 000km
I have contacted BMW directly and they state that the oil is in fact lifetime and the reason being is that as the transmission breaks in there is dust that comes off and is necessary that dust is a necessity in order for the transmission not to slip after a fluid change and that if you ate going to replace any fluid at least keep 80% if you can of the original fluid. I purchased Liqui Moly ATF Top Tea 1800 fluid to fill the missing 4 quarts since I had a leak. But when asked by the dealer mechanics directly they state its for that reason alone and if you change all the fluid you may very likely start experiencing slipping.
Could I run 10w 40 in my n62 to make it stop smoking until I find a new engine for it
That’s what I do. It helps when rings are going bad but doesn’t fix it. Mine smokes when I take off from long red lights or in the drive thru - so annoying.
@@bu5761 I sold that piece of shit lol
@@bu5761 hey I put 10w 60 in that fucker and it completely stopped smoking
@@rudewhipz6199 🤣 might have to try that one. I’m in Central Texas so not worried about cold starts much.
@@bu5761 they had a recall for their shitty seals going bad and starting to smoke
Thanks for the video but please don't chew gum while recording it...

Good call going for 7 foot pounds of torque in English, as opposed to the stipulated torque in some foreign dodgy language
simply contact BNW and they tell you all the spec over the phone and will email it to you directly as well. Transmission pan bolts are to be torqued to 10nm, and fill bolt to be torqued to 35nm.
If I need to bring my bmw750i where are you located can I have your contact number please
What transmission fluid did you use ?
Valvoline Maxlife full synthetic
@@ksajan16 wrong fluid
