    Hi Tim,
    I'm currently thinking about buying a 650i and your videos are great.
    Is it best when changing the oil to have the car level? Are your ramps low and with the car facing the road male the car level with the slope of your drive?

    Had a go at this last weekend but failed - I just couldn't get the screws out and had run out of WD40 to help loosen things up. Question, and this may seem odd, but I have the same ramps and find they slip and push all over the place - how do your keep still without weight?

    I have been told its recommended to prime the oil filter with oil before reinstalling. Also for the oil type, BMW is recommending 5W-30 (A3/B4) which refers to ACEA. Quoted; "A3/B4 oils are Upper Mainline lubricants. They are designed for a use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines and are typically used in newer vehicles as they provide the minimum performance demanded by many OEM specifications." This is an informative article for those into specs and performance results from the labs.

    www.api.org/products-and-services/engine-oil/eolcs-categories-and-classifications/oil-categories#tab-gasoline
    In the coming years, SJ and SL generation (BMW Longlife-01) oils will eventually become obsolete. Catalytic converters and modern petrol specs drive the changes. There has been discussions that 0W-30 dissipates faster than 5W30 on older model cars but produces less sludge yet a higher potential for seal leakage. So much back and forth really. But definitely an interesting read.

    Hi Timm -- thank you for this video. I'm the third owner of a new-to-me 2008 650i convertible. It's in immaculate condition, garage kept and it had only 56,218 miles on it when I bought it. I love it. All the CarFax reports are available too, so that's really helpful and it was in 2011BMW-CPO, so that's good too.
    I have some questions that I don't know where to look for the answers. Primarily, oil change frequencies. The most recent change was in March 2020. The onboard computer is saying that the vehicle won't need an oil change for 14,000 miles. Is this possible? Also (sort of a part 2 to this query): when the fluids and brakes are serviced, do the monitors reset on their own or does the technician do that?
    Also, any thoughts on how to avoid massive service bills? I plan to take care of it dearly. Cheers!

      The 645 and 650 use two different engines, the N62B44 is used in the 645i (333HP, 450NM @ 3600 RPM) and the N62TUB48 is used in the 650i (367HP, 490NM @ 3400 RPM) - more horsepower is usually best!

Out through the dipstick hole,, hv not change the oil filtr,, the oil sucked out=8.2-8.3L,I refill 8.3L first,its quite difficult to see the oil. Mark at the dip stick, first measure seems min,, so put in 200cc, more, make it 8.5,now dip stick seems full,, anyway,, test drive feels much better now,,, last oil was 2.7years ago, although only 1900km done, oil quite dark,, i am too lazy to go under car,, may be next time,, but the sucking machine was really make job much easy n no oil drops,, super,, the machine is just ordinary sucking machine for bottle water,, just change the tube,, cost only 3$,n its handfree,, with recharge battery by usb, just like cell phone,,

    Hello sir! I have a question i really want to buy a 6series model 2006-2010 E63. My question is which engine is the most reliable. I'm buying from japan and ofcourse all the cars are in pretty good condition but i want be sure in the future that i don't get alot of expensive repairs. I really want the v10 m6 but i'm willing to buy a 3.0lL V6 if it means more reliability. Well i don't mind regular oil changes but no expensive repairs i mean.

    • @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
      @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation  5 років тому

      If you don't want expensive repairs the E63 is probably not the car for you - especially the M6! You can get lucky and need nothing but regular servicing, but they can bite you pretty hard.

      @@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation Yes personally i would never buy anything other than toyota/lexus. But E63 is a car i could make an exception with ofcourse it's never gonna be as reliable as lexus but still even a slight better chance would be nice. I have been asking people and seems the 3.0L petrol version is the one with least problems and all the v8 are just plagued with numerous problems or so i have heard. I would really appreciate ur help though.

      @@thegame123ize the 3.0 before facelift is very reliable and very unlikely you run into problems with the engine. But as Tim said these are not cheap cars to maintain. They are a joy to drive and if you maintain them well there should not be huge repair bills. Make sure they car you buy has a good service history.

    Hi Tim does it matter if the car is not on level ground so that all the oil comes out? And when you tightened the drainage plug did you tighten to the correct torque? Many thanks

    • @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation
      @TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation  5 років тому +1

      As long as you are not at a huge angle you will be fine - the drain plug just needs to be tightened enough to crush the copper washer - so probably around 20 Nm or so - but I don't personally use a torque wrench.
