They would love that. I'm worried they will knock it over if it's one course thick maybe I will need to secure it to the wall someone with brackets haha
Yeah we've found that once you are north of us it gets really Rocky and lots of granite. It's more shist stone and quartz here but we are lucky and seem to have just soil which is amazing..... I think mainly as the land must have been worked but then left for so many years for all the minerals and nutrients to build back up 😊😊😊
Hahahah cheers I basically have a 'brain fart' Sophia lets me give it a go then ultimately say whether it has legs or not and to carry on or try something else 😂
EXCELLENT, THE CONDUCT OF THE BURNED GASES IS PERFECT! CONDUCT SHOULD ALWAYS BE ASCENDANT, SOMETIMES PEOPLE DON'T DO THIS AND THERE IS CARBON MONOXY POISONING! CONGRATULATIONS
So glad that hole is all filled in,I won't want Sophia getting up one morning a family of mice have moved in 😊 yes Sophia the bricks need need a good clean😊 and it's all looking good x😊❤😊
Hahahha we can't adopt a family of mice too hahahhahaa. Yes I agree they will look lovely once properly washed I have found my old wire brush which should help 😀
Walt still thinks he is a puppy and can easily sit on laps❤😂😅. Nice to see you two, and almost finished with the wood stove. Going to be hard work scrubbing down those bricks, maybe a circular attachment on your drill would be a better option, a metal scubber attachment ? Don't know what it's called, but have seen them being used, will help? Happy Friday! Have a beautiful weekend!
He's such a baby haha oh thanks for saying that as I'm remembered I have a wire wheel thing which I can put on the drill for any hard to reach parts 💪💪💪
Hi you two beautifull people. Those bricks will look nice behind the log burner. And if there is more of those bricks you can build a beautiful foot path to your shower room. Enjoy your weekend. Love granny South Africa❤
Haha I was thinking this as they have a nice pattern but I'm worried the profile would be too thin and the cats would push over the wall 😞🧱 I will try both ways to see or maybe have the top row that way to show the pattern 😀
I like the brick idea but have you thought about using your corrugated metal sheets? I have seen this being used behind the wood burners and it looks great 😊
That whole hot pipe-through-wall thing seems difficult. I watch UA-camrs in cold places too, and frequently hear about double walled pipe. A pipe within a pipe, good heatproof insulation in between. That way, anything nearby is subjected to far less heat at all times. This is in USA, however, and might be hard to source there. Then the fill up the gap portion of the job is easier, because things are all cooler. Be safe, this seems fire risky. One thing I can say for sure is that after you sand down the bricks, you won’t have to stain or paint them, lol. Seriously, though, get all the wisdom you can get from everyone first.
Ah thankyou, yes Ive seen the twin walled flue but we just couldn't get the right size of it here it only seemed to come in very large diameters. I was thinking the worst conductor of heat is probably air so a void would ensure things don't get too hot maybe haha. Yes I think once wire brushed and sanded the bricks could look nice I don't won't them to look too good sort of clean but old and battered hahaha 🤣
Went not just wire brush the bricks, build a frame urh the bricks around the metal heat shield, then paint the bricks black to coordinate with the burner.
It's lovely isn't it. The river is called the Zezere but it's a very long river but the spot we went too was called Dornes it's a beautiful place ☺️☺️☺️
Oh no! I think next to where it says subscribe you make sure the bell is highlighted 🔔 we do a video every Friday at 6pm and try and do one on Tuesdays at 5pm too (if we have time) it can get so hectic 😀😀😀
Please drop a comment if you have any questions ⁉️ we love hearing from you all 😊
Would look great with bricks all the way to the ceiling and a mantel made with the old wood in the house.
Oh wow yes that would be special 😁
What a nice work! You've been hard at work Dave! I Bet Sofia is happy to see that hole in the wall fixed xD
Yes indeed less chance of a rat coming in now hahahaha we can't harbour anymore animals hahah
@@escapetothequinta I bet Sofia is more happy about 8 legged small animals (do you know the web knitting kind) not being able to enter 🤣
Hahaha yes that's her hate hahahha
The bricks will look great…maybe a nice block of wood on top if you build them a bit higher. I’m sure the kitten would agree.😊
They would love that. I'm worried they will knock it over if it's one course thick maybe I will need to secure it to the wall someone with brackets haha
You guys should put gravel down from the house to the bathroom. So it's not all muddy and dirty when you walk to the bathroom.
Good shout! I wanted to do this to the game too. I can use the tilled to make a path then put some fabric then stone down 😀
Looks like you really got a great plot of land with fantastic soil.. So many places in Portugal seem to be rocky.
I love the bricks. 👏🏻

That is going to be a cozy corner!
I'd probably build a fake chimney with a mantelshelf :)
I like the name the cosy corner hahah a little shelf could be lovely 😀😀😀
Those animals are the best.always in the video.looking forward to the wall decision.❤️🇨🇦
They run the show hahahaha 😲
You 2 gives the perfect vibe for how descisions needs to be made
Hahahah cheers I basically have a 'brain fart' Sophia lets me give it a go then ultimately say whether it has legs or not and to carry on or try something else 😂
I think that the tiles would be perfect !!
Thankyou 😁😁 I'll give them a good scrub today 😁
You should just build your brick up beyond the flue and add a nice wood mantle.
Yeah that's the plan sort of either that or a nice curved top with maybe a shelf sticking out 💪💪💪
Rain dripping down the chimney, need a drip outside
We have a section at the bottom that can be removed is this what you mean? Thanks for watching 😊💪
Great work guys. I like the idea of a rustic pseudo fireplace, and yes you could build a couple of rough wood shelves ❤❤
That would be lovely 😍
EXCELLENT, THE CONDUCT OF THE BURNED GASES IS PERFECT! CONDUCT SHOULD ALWAYS BE ASCENDANT, SOMETIMES PEOPLE DON'T DO THIS AND THERE IS CARBON MONOXY POISONING! CONGRATULATIONS
Ahhh excellent thankyou. It would be easy to go horizontally but I really wanted it to go up at 45 degrees to the pull of air is strong 💪💪💪
So glad that hole is all filled in,I won't want Sophia getting up one morning a family of mice have moved in 😊 yes Sophia the bricks need need a good clean😊 and it's all looking good x😊❤😊

Yes that would be lovely a little yellow brick road of sorts hahha 😊😊😊
Should flip the brick's 🧱 so they are on the flat side and they would go further up the wall and show more of the brick surface
Haha I was thinking this as they have a nice pattern but I'm worried the profile would be too thin and the cats would push over the wall 😞🧱 I will try both ways to see or maybe have the top row that way to show the pattern 😀

Great minds think alike this was my first idea but Sophia wasn't a fan. I wanted to use a piece that was a bit rusty and rustic hahhaha
You filled that gap beautifully!
Ahhh bless you I was waiting for all the brickies to tell me I did it wrong haha it's filled so for me it's fine haha
YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
🥇🥇🥇 this week's first comment winner AGAIN haha hope you enjoy the show and have a lovely weekend
Luckily you can't hear me lol, I can't help myself.🤭😁
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Big project at the fireplace
💪💪💪 hopefully it turns out good I think the bricks will clean up nice
You are welcome, thankyou for the chestnut tree 👍🏻
Ahhhhh it's you 😀😀😀
It's so easy to forget that there is a downstairs area under there.
Hahaha it is looks like a single story from the front doesn't it. Downstairs can become such a cool workshop.
I think it will look nice.
I hope so haha
They make rubber boot flashing for that application and it’s removable and you don’t use concrete.
I've seen these online but there here. Would be very useful haha

Have a wonderful weekend guys.👍❤️
You too, anything planned 😀
I'm looking after my sister's 13 year old dachshund Noodle, half blind, half deaf, but knows how to get what she wants lol. 🙈🙉❤️
Ahhhhh I love those I wanted a long haired blonde dachshund so sweet
Went not just wire brush the bricks, build a frame urh the bricks around the metal heat shield, then paint the bricks black to coordinate with the burner.
The black bricks could look lovely wow it would really stand out ☺️
Wow! The river beach looks spectacular - what's the name of it?
It's lovely isn't it. The river is called the Zezere but it's a very long river but the spot we went too was called Dornes it's a beautiful place ☺️☺️☺️
@@escapetothequinta Its breathtaking! Definitely adding Dornes to the list 👍
I'll let you know if I find anymore lovely spots. The video doesn't do it justice it's so tranquil 😊
Fish are getting smarter mate , you can’t catch them easily these days 😂
They are out smarting me for sure 😊
I am subscribed, but NOT receiving notifications as to when you are on.
Oh no! I think next to where it says subscribe you make sure the bell is highlighted 🔔 we do a video every Friday at 6pm and try and do one on Tuesdays at 5pm too (if we have time) it can get so hectic 😀😀😀
@ thank you.
Hopefully they come through now. Thanks for watching and being part of the team 🙂
silicone cover ...check where they sell pipe ..silicone wont burn ..
Never seen them here unfortunately thats what I wanted to go for 😕
your cat wants you to lit the fire on the burner so he can lie in front of it ,so better move on :P
Hahahah she does indeed I think the animals will hijack the area and I'm not sure I'll get anywhere close haha
