    I did all of the binding methods I saw, hand, machine, front, back but have finally found the method for me. This probably would not pass a judged quilt but great for all others. Sew binding to back of quilt with quarter inch seam. Sew ends together in your favorite method. Then flip to fron of quilt and sew front down with a decorative stitch. I use a blanket stitch or serpentine stitch because those are on my machine. I match bobbin thread to backing but even if it is crossing over stitch line it does not matter because it is decorative. The front will look beautiful. Using clips all around means you do not have to stop to remove or add pins. Easy, fast and no one has ever noticed I do not spend days hand sewing bindings on. Hope this tip helps someone. I have been quilting for 50 years so I love easy tips, thanks for round edge, new to me.

    Make sure you ease your binding around the corner curves rather than stretching it. Remember, you need a little more fabric to go around the cut edge of the quilt than you do to go around the seamline. Just don't stretch that binding. I learned this the hard way making clothes. If it didn’t matter then why are the two sides different? Some people just don’t know how to think

  • @dcwatashi
    @dcwatashi Рік тому +1

    Hey there Tracy girl I almost was not going to watch this because I said to myself oh well, I know how to put on binding. But I’m glad I did I might just try that rounded corner and I forgot about the the last one where you have that little piping coming through I love that technique.
    But I am confused about the last one where you got to the corner and you had an excess thread but when you started to continue to sew you didn’t back stitch so how does that work wouldn’t your threads then come out?
    I am pretty sure Donna Jordan does it the same way so I might have to go back and look at her video for a visual
    But I just love love love the technique where you trim it on that angle well actually you fold and then you trim unbelievable timesaver. I had to learn the hard way where you had to cut your fabric 2 1/2 inches longer and twisted and turned one strip one way and then the other strip the other way, oh my God it was so annoying

    I wish I would have seen this a few days ago. It’s been years since I used this technique and couldn’t remember how to start the stitching. It worked but not as neat as yours. Also, on multiple layers would you use a wider binding? I was making potholders with pockets on one side so it was 8 layers total. I may also try the rounded corners. I always thought you had to use bias cut binding for corners so I didn’t try it.

      If you have 8 layers then I would go wider on the binding and try to sew just to the side of the bulk✅ I mainly use bias binding for garments. The stretchy part, other than the bias is selvedge to selvedge✅ that will give you some "give". I personally find no reason to cut true bias binding for round or square corners unless I'm doing scallops for a quilt where I am attaching continuous curves. I hope that helps some💛

    Tracy,if you are using stripes for your binding would you still sew on the bias or try to match up sewing end to end? BTW I love those peppermints,used it on a couple of projects already. Thank you for all your help.

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  Рік тому +1

      It would depend on which way your stripes were on the fabric....🤷🏻‍♀️ and how you would like it to look in the end.✅

    I can make binding, I can attach it, but once I turn it to the other side I have to either hand sew it or except it as is, if I machine sew it. My stitching always shows on the opposite side.

    I have a question. What is the seam allowances for joining the two fabrics for the flange version? If I wanted my flange to be a little wider, should I add 1/4" to both widths of fabric so that the second color peaks out a little more.

    Hi Tracy. I've been quilting for years and have had reasonable success with binding and corners. Today it's a different story! I decided to add an addional strip crreationing a double binding. I made the binding wider as it is for a baby shower gift. All was well until I tried to do a nice squared corner. It tugs and pulls and won't let me lay it flat! I've trimmed it down. And still it won't cooperate! What can I do? I can't take it apart! Should I just round the corners and ease in the fullness?

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely round it but not "too" round...just a nice curve and ease it in✅ Sometimes plans change right in the middle of a projects...🤷🏻‍♀️

      You may have "pulled" it to tight as you rounded the corner....It's hard to say without seeing it...I encourage you to try again...practice will help.❤️

    Hey there Tracy girl did you purchase any of your Martelli products on Black Friday? Anyway I am trying your start and finish method and yes what a major difference
    However I test sewed a binding strip starting from the back and going to the front and that is not working for me the side where you first sew it on looks a lot more professional so I’m going to switch it again and sew it on the front and turn it to the back.
    And you really should’ve shown us the backside of the very first sample where you were doing the rounded corners because you were saying that was so much better but we have no idea what it looks like on the backside. That’s why I’m not going to do that method.
    At minute marker 4:40 I have absolutely no idea what you are trying to explain here about the thread. Can you help me out with perhaps a better way to explain it just didn’t make any sense to me.

    Hey Tracy I finally found the right Martelli instructional video for the rotary cutter. I hope you get this message because I don’t have your email address except for the giveaway. The video is 25 minutes but it’s really worth it to watch to the end. And I even found videos on how to take it apart clean it and how to replace the spring if you need to
