You instructions SAVED me and my quilts. I am a newbie and every time I would try the "pocket method" - I couldn't stuff it in, it would be a HUGE bulk in my binding - so much so, that i was embarrassed to even GIFT 1 of my quilts - then I saw your video where you CUT the edges with a 45D angle - both pieces - YAY! I finally made the almost perfect quilt with almost perfect binding - and all thanks to YOU.
I have come across all these little tips elsewhere before but now you have combined them all into this brilliant tutorial which I can refer to anytime I need a refresher. Many thanks for this.
I really appreciate you taking the time to show how to set up the sewing of the strips together. It is not as easy to do it perfectly as some folks show. This is very helpful.
I'm so glad you found it helpful, Dorothy! 😊 It's true, getting everything lined up can be tricky, so I'm happy my video was useful. Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment! 🌟
Perhaps someone has already suggested this. If one does not own a lift compensating foot, a zipper foot works beautifully. Thank you for your clear and concise instructional videos...a gift and blessing to all of us '"newbie" quilters...
I have to look at a video every time I finish a quilt project. This one, by far, is the easiest one to do. Thank you for the “plain talk” of walking us through this process! I’m not going back the the other way of measuring the tails and folding using the binding tool. Can’t tell you how many times I have needed to rip it out and start over, lol!
Thank you so much for such an amazing way to bind a quilt. The corners always gave me trouble but you showed how to do it in such an easy way. And now, I don’t have to measure and hope for the best when attaching the ends. Now, when I get compliments for my quilts, I won’t have to say to myself, “Don’t look at the corners, don’t look at the corners, don’t look at the corners!”
Thank you! Your video was SO helpful. I’ve watched several lately and you are the only instructor who didn’t assume I knew what I was doing. Others skipped steps etc. Your video was outstanding! So very helpful!!
Thank you so much, Michele! 😊 I'm really glad the video was helpful for you. I try to make sure I cover all the steps so everyone can follow along. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
Stacey, you hit it out of the park again! Excellent video. Love the "tuck in" method instead of long tails that you have to sew together. I always sew it backwards and have to pick it out. LOL
Thank you so much, Del! 😊 I’m glad you loved the “tuck in” method. Haha, I totally get the struggle with long tails! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! 🌟
I LOVE the Left Compensating Foot! It's a binding game changer! (Brother and Babylock owners - your foot is called a Left Bi-Level Foot. Sure wish Janome would make a Left Compensating / Bi-Level Foot. You can use their Stitch in the Ditch Foot and shift your needle to the left - and it works pretty well, but not as well as a Left Compensating / Bi-Level Foot.) Thank you for your tutorial! Very informative!
I've put off finishing my almost 8 year old son's baby quilt (yes, for that long) because I hate binding so much, but this video was truly a lifesaver and actually made the process very painless! You are SO good at explaining everything in just the right way! I decided to blind stitch the front of the binding, but otherwise, my son now has a finished quilt!!
I wanted to add- I learned how to quilt from a lovely Australian woman, and while your accents are slightly different, nothing made me feel more *safe* than listening to your accent while doing this project! 😅
I'm so glad the video helped you finally finish your son's quilt! 😊 Binding can be tricky, but I'm thrilled the process was painless for you. Your son must be so happy to have his quilt! 🌟
Thank- you, Thank-you, after years of struggling to put bindings on my quilts, this technique is a game changer. A dream come true. I will never do it any other way going forward. Thank-you again!
That is awesome Anna! Love it! I appreciate you taking the time to come back to my video and let me know how you got on! Please pop by my channel again soon 😊
I’m so glad to hear that, Francesca! 😊 It’s awesome that you found this binding method to be the easiest you’ve tried. Thanks for sharing, and happy sewing! 🌟
Hi there. I'm just a beginner quilter and have been dreading binding my first quilt. But not any more . Your tutorial is wonderful. It's by far the best one I've watched, and I've watched a LOT. So thank you so much. I'm anxious to get started. Thanks again. 😊
OMG! This is the *absolute* best tutorial on binding! OMG! 'all the difficulities related to manipulating the corners and the final, 'attaching the ends of the binding together are clarified, streamlined and made EASY!!!! It’s easy when you have a big table for sewing. I envy everyone who does. I live in a townhouse/ cardboard box so it’s frustrating to cut anything. Sorry just want to complain to anyone who will listen.😊
I understand. I record these tutorials in my bedroom on one desk. When I cut everything has to come off my desk and the sewing machine goes on the floor 🤗
Chorika, I also live in an apartment but have solved this problem. I got a cutting table at Jo-Ann's that have two sides that fold down for narrow storage. I was able to afford it by using a 60% off coupon at the time of purchase. If you do not have a Jo-Ann's nearby I think you could order it and have it shipped . If you download their app that will get you started. Good luck
I love this method of binding with the ends meeting up. I've done the diagonal join so many times, I'll have to practice this a few times to get it down. Thank you for a great tutorial.
Thank you! You demonstrated that so clearly that I was able to see what I have been doing wrong when I have tried to do binding that way. I can't wait to bind now, I have a small stack of projects that have been waiting for me to figure this out. Thank you again.
That's awesome Kay - I love that I helped you figure it out! Thanks so much for watching my video! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment, it means a lot to me 😊
Oh my goodness, Stacey, I learned so many tips and tricks from you on this video !! My bindings ended up wonky a lot and now I know why and I also know how to fix that. The directions on how to attach the ends of the binding was awesome ! Thank you, thank you, Sweet lady. 🌺
That looks like it would be sooo much easier for the binding. I always fight with the final joining of the binding and the corners. Thank you soooomuch for the ideas!!!
That was a very good video. I would have liked to have seen where the front stitch ended up sitting on the reverse of it. That seems to be my problem. I can usually see the stitch on the other side and not always in the right spot. Can you show us the back please? TY
Sue, I finish all my quilts this way. When you pull that binding over you have a very narrow binding showing on the reverse side as opposed to if you were doing the traditional method of hand stitching. I use invisible thread in my bobbin (I buy them pre-wound because it is hard to wind them without them getting too tight). With this method your top stitch will not fall onto the binding on the back side because it is so narrow. Stacey used a straight stitch on hers which is very nice. I use a decorative stitch on all mine, usually the serpentine (curvy) stitch. I own a 9mm machine and I love the way the curvy stitch looks on my binding. I have been teaching this method for a few years now and am so glad Stacey did a video. I hope many more people choose this method. Some of us are aging and our hands just won’t do the binding any longer or some are limited with time.
Stacey, if you don't mind my saying so, you have the most elegantly shaped hands that I've seen in many years. Long slim fingers, no big knotty knuckles, no bulging veins, well proportioned, with no bony appearance. Lovely nails. Beautiful, Ma'am. I'm an artist, and I've always noticed things like that.
Thank you for showing me the easiest way to attach binding! I always have trouble with the binding and this video showed me how to take the stress out of attaching and joining the ends without the stress!
Excellent tutorial, particularly for how to join the strips to make the binding and for showing a far easier way to deal with joining the beginning to the end.
I am so glad you found it helpful! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a comment, it means a lot to me. If you wanted to see how the back turned out I have this video: ua-cam.com/video/4ge_yBtL_e4/v-deo.htmlsi=kQumAQNYR0PW3GOs
Thank you for showing this method. I always sew my binding from the back first and then bring to the front but have never been shown this method of attaching the binding ends. LOVE IT!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am currently sitting on the couch with a quilt I finished with your method. I love this method. I was so frustrated with my own ideas that I threw them out of my head and followed your directions without question. My computer was always close. I love the results. You are in my history never to leave. Again, Thank You
This video popped up just as I was about to bind 25 wall hanging for a family reunion. That joining trick has saved my life and sanity. You’re my hero! I ❤❤❤❤❤❤
"It might be a little bit fiddly, but nowhere near as fiddly as joining it on the diagonal as we used to do!" You said it, Stacy! Love this video! Thank you!
I would really like to have seen a close up of your finished seam on the front as well as what it looked like on the back. This is so much faster than hand sewing! Thanks for sharing this.❤
@@dcwatashi i use the method only stitch with one of my decorative stitches. Or i line the binding up just up to the first stitching line so it does show as much.
I had to add another comment. I finished my quilt thanks to you. I put the binding on the back and sewed it to the front. I save so much time. I also used your method to attach the binding using the pocket that you showed. I am thrilled to have finished my first quilt. And the App for measuring the number of binding strips is priceless. Thank you so much.
you, my dear, are the best! i just used this video to bind my second ever quilt-- watched it through, then again, pausing every step of the way to do exactly what you show. easy peasy, and turns out that when i know what i'm doing, i actually quite enjoy the binding step-- the grand finale! yay for me! 😁 i've been stalled on this one at the squaring up and binding phase for a couple months, have worked up 4 more quilts in various stages, waiting for the stars to align so i was ready to bind #2-- and turns out, you are the star! thanks!
My favorite part of Quilt making is the binding. I could do it all day long and I hand stitch. This was a beautifully done video. I love your method of joining.
That’s awesome-so glad you found it helpful! 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it! ❤️ If you haven’t already, please subscribe-I’m trying to get to 100k! 🌟
Using a Creative Grids Clipped Folded Corner Ruler eliminates the need to join binding strips by placing one strip vertically over the other horizontal strip, drawing the diagonal line to stitch on, sewing and cutting a 1/4 inch seam and then cutting off dog ears. Strips (as many as you want at a time) are placed right side up on top of each other. The folded corner ruler is used to cut the ends of the strips diagonally, eliminating dog ears at the same time. It is very simple to join strips as the cut edges fit together with the 1/4 inch seam matching perfectly. Saves so much time and leaves virtually little chance of error. Wouldn’t want to go back to the traditional method.
Thanks, this is great as I don’t want to buy yet another specialized ruler just for binding. Clear directions using what I already have. Keep up the good work
Great video! Never thought of looking for an app to calculate how much binding, backing etc is needed. Downloaded it now and it will be a great help in future. Up to now have always done the calculations the old fashioned way :-) Going to try this binding method with using my stitch-in-a-ditch foot.
Thanks for this suggestion. I never have drawn a line, but I recently bought the ruler you mentioned and that is a way to use it that I had not thought of. Thank you!
I learned so much from your video. The diagonal cut and tuck in the binding is brilliant. Plus, I can’t wait to try starting the binding on the back and flipping to the front. I appreciate how clearly you describe and show each step. Thank you!
Great video - well done. I do my bindings this way and the only thing I would add is that when sewing the attached binding down from the front, make sure your top thread matches the binding, and the bobbin thread matches the backing fabric because there will be a visible stitch line around your quilt back NEXT to (away from) the binding.
@@dcwatashi whenever you do figure it out please post a tutorial so that others with the same issues/frustrations can learn from you 💜 I'm a newbie with so many questions because I find finishing a quilt so intimidating.
I appreciate this tutioral heaps Stacey. It always made me nervous as i like the binder to be perfectly neat. Your instructions are clear and you tone is so pleasant.😊❤
That was a fabulous video and perfect timing. Loved the great angles to view where and how your new method is done . 👍🏻⭐️Thanks for sharing and will help alot .
Love this video. New to quilting and used your tutorial to guide me thru my first quilt. Worked great! Just curious about the reason for starting on the back?
Best quilting video ever! Such clear instructions, visuals, no wasted time at any point. You are a terrific teacher and I appreciate this video. It's really a gift
Love your video. You are calm and speak in a speed that allows us to process your instructions. So thankful for your expertise in binding. Love this technique.
I have always sewn on an antique Singer. I just purchased a Brother and I am in the middle of making a baby quilt, and quilting by using the machine and its walking foot. I was stumped about the binding. Thank you so much for this...this is exactly what I needed!
This is the first time I've seen your site. I will be using this method of binding from now on. It makes a lot more sense and leaves a nice finish. Thanks for the info.
thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I now am a die-hard fan of Stacey Lee Creative! I have struggled long with binding and this method of joining went together so smoothly and easily and gave me confidence to keep quilting!
This video was very helpful for me. I admit I am not a quilter (although I want to) but I do own an alteration shop & this fits in with my business when I need to make a binding. You make it very easy to understand. Thank you
I watched other videos and still could not bind a quilt. Your video is the best. I can now do binding and it gets easier every time now. Thank you so much for the video. It's the best.
Thank you so much! 😊 I’m glad you found the video and tutorial helpful for new sewists. If you haven’t already, please subscribe-I’m on my way to 70k! 🌟
What a game changer Stacey! I really struggled at the “Traditional” way and using the diagonal binding ruler way. I can now try this way too. Love your tutorials. So much patience helps keep me calm as I learn. Thank you!💖💖💖
Your video was my lifesaver! I followed your instructions step by step and I just finished my soon to be born granddaughter’s quilt and the binding came out exactly how I wanted it--all thanks to YOUUUUU!!!!
Today I prepared and sewed on binding to a table runner. I followed your instructions exactly, and everything was just right. Thank you so very much for your carefully planned instructions and attention to detail. Boy! What a relief that this worked! Thanks again, Stacey!!!! Pat
Other than adding the ends traditionally, this is my preferred method. I find it looks nice and is a stress free way of adding binding!! Thanks for the video!!
Your instructions and illustrations are so great it makes me want to start quilting!!! I wish everyone could speak so clearly and add some common sense to their videos like you do.
Wow Franny, that means so much to me! 😊 I’m thrilled to hear the video had such an impact. Thank you for your kind words! If you haven’t already, please subscribe-I’m on my way to 100k! 🌟

You make the best detailed videos and I for one thank you for that. A lot of others skip over details that us newbies need and I would never have known until I watched a video by you on the same thing. Again thank you!
I'm so grateful for your tutorial, I've struggled with binding, because I couldn't understand the many other instructions out there. I can comprehend what you are saying and doing, thank you so very much.

Omg I didn't know there was an app for calculating material it's one of the things as a beginner at quilting that I struggle with thank you so much for sharing it's a game changer I always have to over estimate buying material to make sure I have enough❤❤❤

You are so welcome Chelsea! Thanks so much for watching my video and taking the time to leave a comment 🤗
This video popped up just as I was about to bind 25 wall hanging for a family reunion. That joining trick has saved my life and sanity. You’re my hero! I ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks so much! I’m glad it was helpful 🤗
"It might be a little bit fiddly, but nowhere near as fiddly as joining it on the diagonal as we used to do!" You said it, Stacy! Love this video! Thank you!
Exactly Barbara! Thanks for watching 🤗
I agree. This way is easier.
I can not believe how complicated other people have made this process. Thank you for giving me the courage to continue with my quilt. Well done!
I’m glad you found it helpful! Thanks so much for leaving a comment 🙏
Sew it on from the front, and then hand stitch it on the back to finish it off!
Great idea Kathy!
I will share some pics on my community page of the stitches and the back
I had to add another comment. I finished my quilt thanks to you. I put the binding on the back and sewed it to the front. I save so much time. I also used your method to attach the binding using the pocket that you showed. I am thrilled to have finished my first quilt. And the App for measuring the number of binding strips is priceless. Thank you so much.
I’m glad you found it helpful! Well done on finishing your first quilt 🥳🥳🥳
Yes, I also want to thank you for the app! I downloaded it and the calculations came out so exact! Love it!
Thank you for this tutorial! I absolutely hate adding the binding! This sewing it on is a life saver ❤ LOVE 💕 IT!
Awesome - I am glad you like it 🤗 Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment ❤️
Excellent instructions! I used your directions and made a self binding baby blanket and I am now obsessed.
Great job Jan! Thanks so much for watching my videos ❤️
you, my dear, are the best! i just used this video to bind my second ever quilt-- watched it through, then again, pausing every step of the way to do exactly what you show. easy peasy, and turns out that when i know what i'm doing, i actually quite enjoy the binding step-- the grand finale! yay for me! 😁
i've been stalled on this one at the squaring up and binding phase for a couple months, have worked up 4 more quilts in various stages, waiting for the stars to align so i was ready to bind #2-- and turns out, you are the star! thanks!
So awesome! Sorry for the late reply. I’m happy you found my video so helpful 🤗
This was SO helpful, thank you! The camera angle made it so I could see everything so well and understand exactly what you were doing!
I'm so glad it was helpful for you! 😊 It's great to hear that the camera angle worked well and made everything clear. Happy sewing! 🌟
My favorite part of Quilt making is the binding. I could do it all day long and I hand stitch. This was a beautifully done video. I love your method of joining.
Thank you so much! Thanks for watching my video and taking the time to leave a comment 🤗
Best binding technique I’ve seen. Especially how you join the two ends. I’m using that from now on. Thank you!
That’s awesome-so glad you found it helpful! 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it! ❤️ If you haven’t already, please subscribe-I’m trying to get to 100k! 🌟
Great video!! Love that fabric! 🧵🪡✂️💕
Thanks so much Sandra! I appreciate you watching my video and leaving a comment, it means a lot to me 😊
Amazing! Thanks for sharing such a simple way to bind a quilt, make the mitered corners and finish the end of the binding. 😊
Hi Jean, I hadn't heard about this ruler, thanks for telling me about it. I will go and check it out now 😊
I use it all the time.
Thank you!
Finally!! A way to join the binding ends that makes sense to me and i can actually do. Thank you.
Thanks so much! Here’s a video if you would like to see the back of the quilt ua-cam.com/video/4ge_yBtL_e4/v-deo.htmlsi=fh__RTxf8q84okh_
Thank you so much Stacey! I do hate the binding part but with your tutorial I’m gonna finishing my quilts as a pro 🎉❤💪💕

The join looks SO MUCH LESS COMPLICATED than other methods. Thank you!!
You are so welcome! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, I really appreciate it ❤️
I learned so much from your video. The diagonal cut and tuck in the binding is brilliant. Plus, I can’t wait to try starting the binding on the back and flipping to the front. I appreciate how clearly you describe and show each step. Thank you!
That’s awesome Tammy I am so glad you found it helpful 🤗 Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment ❤️
Brilliant! I added it to my saved list so I can reference it when I get my next quilt back from the long armer! Thank you!!
Awesome! Thanks so much! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment 😊
Great video - well done. I do my bindings this way and the only thing I would add is that when sewing the attached binding down from the front, make sure your top thread matches the binding, and the bobbin thread matches the backing fabric because there will be a visible stitch line around your quilt back NEXT to (away from) the binding.
Great point! I am a cheat when it come to thread and almost always use white!
Sorry to irk you 😊
@@dcwatashi Thanks for the feedback. Good luck with working out the best way for you to do your binding 🥰
