This song was, as the story goes, a challenged from George Harrison. George went to a Zep' concert in the early 70's. He was invited backstage to meet the band. They knew or admired him as Beatle and Guitarist. George is said to be amazed that Zep would play 2 hours, with such sound quality. The Beatles on their tours in the Sixties were not allowed to play more than 30 minutes, and often did the set in 20 minutes, with the screams of the audience, and their small amplifiers, they couldn't hear themselves much - reason to stop touring. Yet, George suggested they do a few ballads. The Rain Song. (re: Hammer of the Gods -book)

The definitive version of this amazing song is the 1973 version from the concert film “the song remains the same” filmed at Madison square garden, in NYC. It is honestly much better then the knebworth version, IMO.
It's a great live show, but imo this song is so internalized and lyrically pure that nothing is better than the record version for me. The subtlety and nuance of the musicianship is just lost in live versions.
Well by 1979 they were well past it. I was at Knebworth as a 16 year old at his first big rock concert. The truth is they weren't great. I left feeling disappointed. This is a lot better than I remember it.

Well, I’m a huge Pink Floyd fan, but came around to LZ in my later years. I’ve seen almost all of your PF reactions and always enjoy how “into” the music you always get. I was a young man when PF and LZ both came on the scene in the mid/late 60’s. I was just 20 at the time. Strangely, I did not really “get into” either group at that time. I was more into straight R;&R and of course “The Beatles” we coming. Not until I was nearly fifty when I took my oldest daughter to PF Pulse Concert in Vancouver BC in 1995 I’d I really get hooked on PF. Absolutely a game changer and I became a huge PF fan. The greatest concert I’ve even been to in my life. Then, I began to listen to some LZ and came to really appreciate them more. I loved your reaction to “The Rain Song”, which is my second LZ favorite. But I think you should react to their song “Your Time is Gonna Come”. My third LZ favorite. I especially love the organ intro (I was a keyboard guy in a R&R band in 1964/1965 in LA before I got drafted into the Army). Anyway, I hope you can do that one sometime when you have a chance?
this plus the next track, Over The Hills And Far Away, are both real game changers.... two excellent examples of songs which can make you close your eyes and simply dream...

Alright mateeee, that's where you're wrong. New music on the radio versus what's going on in the underground scene is completely different. Some other beautiful slower acoustic songs from them are Thank You, Going to California, and Battle of Evermore. The studio versions are really the best.
@@rebekaluizebudlevskamusic excellent suggestions Thank you, Battle of Evermore and Going to California. The latter two are folk inspired tunes and probably something you could really connect with. That's The Way off their 3rd album is another acoustic tune which showcases Robert's voice. Then you have All My Love off their 1979 album In Through The Outdoor which is a song in honour of his son who died tragically in 1977. The emotion in his voice is so poignant and unforgettable.
Battle of Evermore is actually a duet with an english folk singer. She's the only other artist credited for a performance on a Led Zeppelin album ever besides the four. Its a pretty unique piece with mandolin as the instrumental centerpiece. Gallows Pole is also mandolin, but entirely different.
@@ivanhecimovic8397 I can't believe I forgot to mention That's the Way. It's one of my favorites and has the warmest acoustic guitar strumming I have ever heard.
You are actually spot on about the “potential” thing. A lot of people here are biased and ignoring what you are hearing. What many may not know, or remember, but he was having major vocal problems and some surgeries by this point. Plus his mind was wandering at this point in his life, he had recently lost his young son. Your comment about too long, songs were definitely longer in the 70’s. Of course anyone born in the last 20 years hasn’t heard a lot of 70’s rock growing up and have been trained to listen to music in roughly 3 to 3.5 minutes compositions. In the 70’s with a set of headphones on, sitting in your dark bedroom, songs like this (the record version) were applauded.

This is probably their best slow song and a very good suggestion and choice of suggestion. For some reason everyone always forget The Rain Song. Capital show, indeed.
This was a difficult time for the band. Jimmy was dealing with a heroine addiction. Robert had suffered the tragedy of his little boy dying two years before and this was their first major concert after that. Robert had a somber face...completely different from his earlier self. His heart really wasn’t in it anymore and his voice was giving him problems. The very most beautiful version of this song is from 1995...as part of the Plant/Page No Quarter tour, with exquisitely beautiful acoustic guitar playing from Jimmy and a full orchestra. Utterly lovely. Two other songs that are mellow are Going to California and Ten Years Gone. And of course the iconic live performance of StairwaY to Heaven from MSG 1973 shows off Robert’s voice wonderfully.
I couldn’t agree with you more than how you described how the band was. Outside of the 1973 Madison Square Gardens version yes I’d have to say Robert and Jimmy No Quarter is the best version ever. But this song is like getting stoned, having sex with the one you love most and crying all at the same time. It brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I love it so.
Page looks like he's withdrawing from junk here...if he was then he did a stellar job. I'd recommend the Page and Plant acoustic version from the 90:s. Brings tears to my eyes every time
This was the first song I ever learned to play on the guitar. It is really beautiful., and will always hold a special place in my heart. By 1979, Robert Plant, the lead singer, had had surgery to his vocal cords and couldn't sing like he could in the early days of the band. He had done expensive damage to them, and it was amazing he could sing again at all, never mind with the quality of the performance he displayed here.

This is such a beautiful song. Everyone is at the tip-top of their game. Jimmy is rated in the top five rock guitarists! And John Paul adds so much with the keyboards. AND Robert is his usual masterful self. And his hair is as special as his vocals. Do you agree??? Bonham is tame on this one. But great as usual. Have you listened to "Four sticks"????? Please locate and review their acoustic work. Plant and Page do their version of folk and traditional music.. It is at another level.......take care pretty lady......................
You'd probably like the album version better based on your comments. The live performances had more improvisation, had a little more grit, and were never played the exactly same way twice. Led Zeppelin has so many great songs you could spend years finding gems on all their albums. The more you hear these songs the more you will get out of the experience. I bought my first LZ album in 1969, as soon as it was introduced in the US, and I'm still exploring the music and hearing new things.
i remember waking up on vacation hungover as xxxx missing one flip flop and i was told i had to the end of this song to find my other flippy. thank you LZ for the long long song "Rain Song" ! yeah these guys meant bidniss.
I think that you enjoyed this one lady..... Is Robert a storyteller or what??? So much feelings!! Beka there is an acoustic version of this. You will fall in love with that one!!!!! Their music is beautiful...... Zeppelin kicks butt and takes names!!!!!
In my generation the ladies I knew liked Led Zeppelin III the most. I saw them 21 Aug 1971 LA Forum, guitar solos kept the stoner fans happy. Back then everyone was smoking pot, pipes with feathers hanging off of them and humongous joints were passed from left and right down the rows from others unknown to us, everyone took a hit, everyone. Before the lights were turned off 15,000 people were pointing at a huge blue cloud hovering near the ceiling and laughing. Lovely young ladies dressed like hippies were standing on the stairs around us gyrating to everyone's delight!
I just stumbled across your channel. I know a fair amount about Led Zeppelin, since i grew up in the 60's and 70's, but not much about you.( I will say, you have an interesting kind of beauty) . Anyhow, enjoy your journey through this band. I think it takes time to understand the fact that these guys are something to experience in their totality, vs some linear music experience. They are very versatile.
That's what you call a reaction to videos... Proper reaction. Love her smile though... A suggestion lady.. In future, react to Led Zeppelin songs individually from the concert in Madison square garden, 1973. Its one of their perfect concerts, the other with Egyptian band & orchestra sans John Paul Jones & Jon Bonham nevertheless..
I heard that this song was written, in part, due to The Beatles’ George Harrison criticizing Led Zeppelin at a party for John Bonham because he said that they seldom wrote any ballads. Bonham heard that and apparently told the other members of the band which is why they came up with this song. I believe that the chords are similar to Harrison’s song “Something”.
The song is written to encompass the seasons of love the guitar / instrumental parts are an extension to invoke the difference between those seasons thus can't be rushed but to be embraced
*Rebeka* YESSSSSSSS.!!!!!! MY G.O.A.T. band... but you knew that already. I am most grateful favorite reactor that you continue down the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole.! I don't want to be intrusive, not ever but would you Please react *SPECIFICALLY* to their song *Going to California* *SPECIFICALLY* the version from *Live at Earls Court* 1975..? So Fn cool.... *Peace* David...
I highly, highly recommend you reacting to "All of My Love." This song is beautiful and his voice definitely comes through. LZ used to do acoustic sets as well, so a few others you would enjoy: Going to California, That's the Way, Tangerine, and Thank You.
When I hear this song, I smile. This was in a tough period of my life. I was going thru a break-up. BUT it is such a good song!! Zeppelin was a huge band that sold music by the truck loads. Each member a true master of their craft..... MASTERS!!!!!!!!!!!! All of their music is wonderful, all of it! This was one of the many bands around in my early years that were special. I am so lucky to have been alive in this time period..... May I suggest you review an acoustic version ---- The Rain Song - Jimmy Page & Robert Plant. It is 7:32 long, but worth it.!!!! This version has strings and an upright bass. Classic..!!!!! " Flee from me keepers of the gloom!" Check it out... My favorite part is near the end, Jimmy tosses his pick and finger picks the last part.... Take care!!!!!
Nice to hear that zepplin has some potential. I hope to see them go far.

This song pretty lady is sologer. It is great!!!!! I hope you like it! It is so good!!!! John Paul's keyboard part adds so much to this. You can enjoy that more than most, seeing how you can play the keyboards. " Flee from keepers of the gloom!" These things are clear to all in time.......
Robert Plant is/was one of the best frontmen EVER. His abilities to capture the audience was/is unsurpassed. Everyone in his group is/was great. There is an acoustic version of this song you must watch!!!! Take care and please continue to explore these classics! This is America you are entitled to your opinions and thoughts. Besides this is your channel. YOU are in charge!! Take care of yourself.
Shit it's still tear jerker - old men's.
Rain song my #1 zep song🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I've been listening to rock, metal, pop, you name it for 45 years cause I'm 52 and it started around 7 with KISS anyway, after all these years, I decided just for myself I believe Led Zeppelin is the GOAT. Only people who would argue are probably Beatle's fans, which so am I lol
There is an acoustic version of this classic you would love!!!! Locate it and watch it.
You will not be sorry. You are entitled to your opinion. This is your channel........ Take care................!!!!!!!!
The Song “Ramble On” offers some nice vocals as well as being beautifully played by the band.
Funky little rock tune from all those years ago. Loved it..
I would check out the album version on that one. Sheer perfection and a killer bass line.
MsAppassionata oh, definitely!
The way you smiled and your eyes lit up, I think you LOVED it. This is a darn GOOD song.
Was that grand or what?????? Zeppelin was/is one of the leaders in rock & roll.....
Thank you 🎵🎶
You're welcome.:)
The live version of Zeppelin is usually longer than the studio version. You should check out the live MSG version and Going to California too.
I will try to do my best. Thank you for your suggestion.:)
i remember waking up on vacation hungover as xxxx missing one flip flop and i was told i had to the end of this song to find my other flippy. thank you LZ for the long long song "Rain Song" ! yeah these guys meant bidniss.
I love that you cover live performances
Talent instantly recognizes genius. 👍
A decade after his prime. Which is better than the rest
To be fair Jimmy probably made less mistakes at this time. Not that I don't love the mistakes
You can hear the anguish and pain in his voice. I can't fathom the feelings of losing a child.
Thank God i grew up in the 60s and 70s best music ever made and never will be replaced sadly.
Thank you.:)
Upon us all, just a little rain must fall.
You are amazing.... Wow 💞💞
Thank you so much.:)
OMG I adore this song!!!
Thank you.:)
@@rebekaluizebudlevskamusic you are welcome.
Led Zeppelin,,,,,for the ADVANCED music listener. 👍👍👍😎
Thank you.:)
@@rebekaluizebudlevskamusic 100% *Rebeka* Outfrickenstanding.! Have a significant day....♡
A beautiful song for a beautiful woman.
I highly, highly recommend you reacting to "All of My Love." This song is beautiful and his voice definitely comes through. LZ used to do acoustic sets as well, so a few others you would enjoy: Going to California, That's the Way, Tangerine, and Thank You.
I will try to do my best. Thank you for your suggestion.:)
So great seeing people react to classic rock. Nice reaction.
Thank you so much😊🙏🏼
big fan of Led Zeppelin have all their albums
Thank you by Led Zeppelin ❤❤
This was in 1979 so they were passed their best by then, check out the 1975 Earls Court stuff that was when they were at their BEST!!
They can play anything & everything..the best..
