Heritage Audio RAM System 2000 MONITOR CONTROLLER Overview
Today we're going to take a look at the Heritage Audio RAM System 2000.
A monitor controller with Bluetooth integration. I've been working with the RAM System 2000 as my main Monitor Controller for the past month and so far, I am enjoying it big time :-)
*** UPDATE At the time of filming this video, I didn't get the time to test the Talkback with an artist which I did afterward. Just so you know, the Talkback button is nice, but makes a noticeable mechanical click sound that is annoying to the musician's ears.

Another amiably articulate presentation of a nascent tool of creative practicality from Chris. Big thanks!
Awesome video, great job explaining every feature along with its practical uses. SO HELPFUL! :)
I've been looking for something like this. Glad you reviewed it! This was a very helpful video!
Nice review, I've had that controller for about a year now.
What I like about it:
* The sound
* The looks
* The build quality
What I feel could be improved, and something to think about:
* Talkback button gives quite a loud click on the headphones of the talent. Even when TB volume is at its lowest. It seems to be the mechanical clicking noise of the buttons which is amplified by the inbuilt microphone.
* Switching speakers gives a click (less loud).
* There are no input trim controls. It is directly connected to my AD converter and the signal is not quite loud enough for ideal level. This is causing e.g. the headphone outs to also be at a low level even at full volume.
* There is no on/off button. So be prepared to have this unit on the same power switch as your speakers e.g.
Hey! Have you ever heard clicks when switching to some volume values (In my case from 31 to 32db and in other 2 values) while playing music? The guys at heritage told me that it shouldn't happen, but even on a second brand new unit the issue is still there even after trying with different cables... so at this point I'm wondering if it's just the way these units are (which would be a bit disappointing)
@@ynglgnd7282 Yes I sometimes have that too ( i noticed when I just tried it). I hadn't noticed it before. You also clearly hear the mechanical switching of the relays while turning the knob on every change but most of that cannot be heard out of the speaker. But occasionally, a light click can be heard over here as well.
@@maartenligtenberg8051 yes relays noise is okay but unfortunally clicks also comes from the speakers… I tried to switch cables, outlets, even speakers but nothing worked… i’ve also sent a video to thomann support and they said that the unit “works as expected”… weird. At this point idk… thank you!
I love it! Very well done! Thank you, Chris!!
Glad you like it! :)
hi chris, i already bought the controller in 2018. this is really a great box. I always take a little longer to decide what to do. i was searching like crazy for a new controller. i tested every week another one. the big players like dangerous, grace design or crane song were available. in the end I didn't need these many additional options for the top devices. only in terms of sound is the heritage in no way inferior to the other boys. and that was the most important thing for me. phenomenal left / right synchronization. I underestimated the bluetooth implementation. thought it was a nice gimmick. but I need it so much. for me and when clients are in the studio. There is a small negative point: the talkback button clicks quite loudly when pressed. maybe the heritage has already been repaired on your controller. Everyone had that in 2018. at least that was a thomann directory inquiry. very good choice chris. have fun with it and all the best. stay healthy. Greetings from Germany. bless ya.
Thanks Ron, I didn't record any artists yet using it since we're in COVID confinement. But I tested it briefly and you're correct, the talk back has a mecanical clic when you use it.
@@mixdownonline thanks chris for your answer. a pity. a little sad that heritage has not yet discussed this. correct me if i'm wrong: my theory is that the click of the button can be heard through the mic. mechanical click describes that very well. so the button is a little too close to the mic. and the mic is also super sensitive. if that were possible, heritage would have to install a button that only functions after about a second of latency. could work.
yes of course. now there are no customers here in the studio. but the last customer had an incredibly loud headphone mix. every time i hit the talkback button he almost got a heart attack. lol. if someone has the headphones at "normal" volume, it is not that bad. nevertheless 5 out of 5 points for the controller. i love my ram2000 :)
Thanks Chris!
A great review can you tell me how high the unit is in the back? can't find any info?
Hey, could you explain the level preset? is it like an output level that you may use as a reference that ignores the position of the level pot, or is it an input adjustment? If it is an input adjustment, how do you adjust the input level? Thanks
Hey great video! Can the Heritage have multiple sources 1 & 2 ...& or Cue input.... on at the same time? Trying to replace my 16 channel mixer with this. I need 2 ST outs from my Apollo to play at once. Thanks~!
I see the LFE (Sub) output on the back panel but how do you control that on the front panel? Can it be turned on/off? Can you control which of the 3 monitor inputs the sub plays with? Thx.
Hi! I’m planing to buy an Orion 32, which only has 2 monitor outs. Would this unit serves me if, apart from connecting the monitors, I want to connect it to a headphone preamp in the recording room? Thank you
Talked more about the build, than the sound. How much does it color the sound vs straight from audio interface to monitor?
Thanks! Just got mine today man!! What a beautiful piece and difference from the Presouns V2 I hear 👂🏽 no difference in this and the other 1K$ & Up units dangerous Music Crane Grace just a matter of getting more IO on the other units the BT is very much welcomed 👌🏾🫡.
when it says balanced. does it really do a ground lift "float" circuit?
Do you know where the subwoofer crossover frequency is set up? And if when muting the sub the L/R speaker signal goes back to full range? Would it be possible for you to test it out sending a signal with an oscillator for example?
Example: let's say the crossover frequency is set at 110Hz so everything below that frequency gets sent to the sub and everything above 110Hz is sent to the L/R speakers. Now we mute the sub.
What has happened to those low frequencies? Have they been muted and taking away from the equation, or have they been rerouted to the L/R monitors?
How do you switch for mixing purpose to mono like most Engineers do ???
Hey Chris, nice video (as usual)
Is there a way to use multiple monitors without having to use a (rather expensive) controller? I have tried to add monitors in the control room, but I can not switch from one set to another, I mean, I can switch by clicking on monitor 1 or 2 but they all keep playing at the sam time (I use a steinberg UR44 interface, 1 st of monitors is on main output, the other is on output 1&2) I hope this question makes a bit of sence, I am not english spraking. Grtz from Belgium and thank you for your video's !!!
I have a question. I want to hook up my Yamaha PSR s970 to Cubase... Want to program the midi parts in Cubase. But want the midi parts to be played to the PSR using is internal tones... Drums, guitar everything... How can we achieve this. Could you make a tutorial on this? Thanks in advance
Is it possible to plug powered studio monitors via shielded* TRS cables on this unit?
No one seems to mention the big poo poo they made with the subwoofer output. There's no crossover in this thing, so it doesn't "separate" the frequencies for the monitors and the sub. It basically sends the sum of the left and right outputs through the sub out, meaning you need to send that audio to an external crossover and back into this thing to cut the lows on the monitors and direct them to the sub. So you need one full frequency input set for regular monitors and another externally 'crossovered' input to send to the sub and the monitors again...
Big cock up
My only negative IMO is putting the headphone jacks on the side... Probably isn't a big deal for some, however it's a good size unit and if desk space is a premium then you have to make space for clearance right??
Can this unit playback a summed signal, let's say Input 1 + input 2?
thanks chris ...super controller..... and what are brands The cables you use in your studio ..
Do you use ( mogami /Planet Waves cables )
My main snake is Mogami but my other cables are mainly Neutrik
Hi Chris thank’s for very instructive video. Is it possible that you make a video how to set up Cubase including hardware interface (which one is most suitable for use) for mixing 5.1 channel record? Jan
The problem is that I don't have a 5.1 setup.
Can set 2 outs at the same time?
Dirais-tu que c'est une genre de version plus "updated" du classic Mackie Big Knob Studio Command System?
Bonne question, je connais pas trop le Mackie Big Knob
Is there anything like this but a little less expensive?
Great Video. Is only one Input at a time selectable?
That is correct
Chris, what's up with Steinberg still wanting to charge $75 for vst connect pro? They charge $100 for every .5 update(not even a full update anymore) Is it too much to ask for cubase pro to actually have the "pro" versions of vst connect and groove agent? I'm a little frustrated cause of them still wanting $75 for the vst connect pro. Its 50% off, but still...really? And $100 for every .5 update. What are your thoughts?
To be honest with you, I don't mind since they do include a basic version of both VST Connect and GRoove Agent SE and they're is a lot you can do with those only
Is there a click when engaging speaker buttons bro? I have just bought Presonus Central Station and there is a high click when II select my Event Monitors 😞 any help appreciated cheers
No there's not, quiet when swithing from one sets of monitors to the other. but there is a click with the Talkback button that is noticeable and annoying to the musician's headphones. Appart from that, still love this controller after using it for more than a year now.
Ei Chris, what do you think about the more budget friendly but still great gear Audient Nero? Thanks
I never tried it but Audient usualy make good products
Just click it
Tu é brasileiro né?
Not even close Lol! I'm French Canadian but my father is from Egypt
You just read what's there on the device itself. It's not a review, sorry! I'm disappointed
I agree, it's not a review, but an overview...read the title ;)
that massive turn knob is ugly!
