Anyone that has some experiences with this monitor controller or another one ?
I just set up mine today. Yes the talkback is REALLY annoying. Other than that, so far so good. I need to more practice and use to give more of an opinion. Thank you for this review. Not that many people has made one.
You are welcome. I already heard from others on forums that they had the talkback problem as well so was pretty sure it was a structural problem. And your experience confirms this again. Thanks for your comment 👍.
@@luisorozco6664 Do you also have loud clicks when switching outputs?
Very useful review!! Thanks!!
👍🙏
Thanks for your video! I have it in my studio right now, but can't get used to the click when switching outputs. What alternative would you recommend in this price range
?
Yes it is very annoying. You CAN set the talkback gain to as low as possible which makes a but of a difference but you keep hearing the click clearly.
I have not really done much research for alternatives, but I would probably go up in price class if I couldn't stand it. Although maybe the Drawmer is worth a try as well. Much cheaper though, so you probably don't get the pristine audio path.
Ah hang on, you were talking about the clicks when switching outputs, not for engaging talkback .... yes I get that too. But that click is less loud compared to the talkback click.
Thanks for the very informative video. I am thinking of getting one of these units but I have a concern that maybe you may be able to help with before I commit myself.
Do you know where the subwoofer crossover frequency is set up? And if when muting the sub the L/R speaker signal goes back to full range? Would it be possible for you to test it out sending a signal with an oscillator for example?
Example: let's say the crossover frequency is set at 110Hz so everything below that frequency gets sent to the sub and everything above 110Hz is sent to the L/R speakers. Now we mute the sub.
What has happened to those low frequencies? Have they been muted and taking away from the equation, or have they been rerouted to the L/R monitors?
Sorry for the long winded message. I was unable to find this information anywhere.
I looked up what the manual says about the sub output, but it just says that it follows the input selected and outputs a mono unfiltered combination of both channels. No further technical specification of this output. I wonder whether there is actually a crossover in the unit or whether the sub speaker is supposed to do the filtering. I am not using the sub output so cannot really try it. What I can say is that pushing the 'Mute sub' button does not seem to affect the amount of low end I'm hearing on my regular outputs.
Perhaps ask Heritage if you really want to know before purchase. Thanks for watching!
@@LanewoodStudios I really appreciate your answer. Thank you very much for taking the time. As you say, there's not much technical information on that respect. I'll try to contact them. Thank you and keep up your good work!
Hey, nice video thx. Is it possible to use the talkback, without activating the DIM function? In that way, I can keep the talkback on all the time, and route it to the cue mix, which is directly connected to my interface. So I can use the talk back functionality ON/OFF through my DAW (Nuendo).
Unfortunately I haven’t found a way to do that.
Hi Bro... I have the same unit and no issues with HP levels.,... perhaps your headphones are real high impedence.... that would cause this.,... thanks for the vid.,,. good one
Thanks. Yes they might be 👍.
yeah, I found that out during a session with 4 singers,,, each with their own cans, and one was so much lower in gain than the other three, it was the impedence on that set of HP that was much higher than the other two...now i notice impedence when purchasing Hp..... the HP amp in the Ram is really very pro.... Have a good day, ed
@@edmazur2084 you too!
Is it possible to plug powered studio monitors via shielded* TRS cables into this unit?
linuslaumusic yes that is the connection at the back for monitors and what I’m using as well.
Hi! You can’t have 2 outs at the same time? 😢
No I haven’t been able to make that work.
Hello I am very satisfied with the monitor controller. The talkback is not so crucial for me.
As mentioned in the video, the device has no gain because it is passive.
My question: How far do you turn up the output of your sound card? With what level you come into the controller? I don't like to turn up my sound card full blast. I don't know why! :-D
Thank you for the Video!
I have to say that I do turn up the windows volume full blast, but i vary the volume per application. E.g. in Spotify the volume is not fully open. If I look at the input level on the controller I'm usually seeing somewhere around -4/+2 on that meter, never venturing into the yellow or red. The master knob on the controller is set to -23dB.
I've then calibrated my monitors with a pink noise file to measure a loudness of around 78dB when listening to a single monitor.
@@LanewoodStudios Thank you for your answer!
I have read that it is best to operate digital volume controls in the 20-80% range because of the digital threshold.
That's why I don't want to turn up the volume control all the way.
I'm at 75%, but then I'm already missing some level.
But maybe that's just nonsense. :-D
😍😍😍😍😍😍
👍
can you put two out in the same time
To two monitor pairs at the same time you mean ? I don't think that is possible. If you push e.g. the 'OUT 2' button, the ' OUT 1' button is automatically disabled/turned off.
having a hard time listening to this video, the sibilance is killing me
Sorry about that. I have been experimenting with other mics and processing on later vids. I do notice that my voice always stays a bit sibilant though.
