That was a great improvement you made with the drum beat after you recorded the slide guitar part! And thank you for the informative VST Connect tutorial.
Just what I needed my friend! I will look into this in the coming days/weeks. 👌🎸
Cheers Chris 👍😎
Can't tell you how useful this was. I wish I had this when I first started using VST Connect. Thanks.
Thank you, Chris. I'm just getting started with VST Connect PRO and you've cleared up a lot of confusion. I'm confident about initiating a session with my remote musicians now!
Thank you very much Chris. You've answered many of my questions. I plan to try this...
I'm about to start working on some virtual sessions using VST Connect in a few weeks. I have a feeling I will be coming back to this video a lot. Thanks so much Chris. You always have excellent content on your channel. Whenever I learn something new about Cubase or DAWs in general, there is about a 90% chance I got it from you. The other 10% is purely having done something on accident :-). Thanks again!
Thank you for making this for Chris. My friends and clients have been reluctant to use VST-connect. I'll keep you posted on whether this critical valuable video can conquer the procrastination plague that ills my artistic communities. Peace Chris.
Will need to try this after I set up my studio (still in the making). Watching this video made me realize I had underestimated this function. Good job 👍
Wow. Thank you for explaining this feature so well. This could be a game changer.
I wasn't using it, but now I´m planning to! Thank you once again Chris!!
Thank you for sharing this info!
I have VST Pro just waiting to start collaborations. You answered all of my questions. Thank you!
Thanks so much for another super comprehensive video on a topic that is not so widely available on YT.
Nice to see it in action. Figured out today how to set up with a friend at the other end. Tomorrow will try out more feature with someone else. Then on to do recording sessions, this really helps, thank you much for posting this.
Manna from Heaven! Thanks, Chris!
Great tutorial. as a newcomer to Cubase there's a lot to learn, and this video was really clear. Great for "lockdown"
Oh! Finally someone that talks about it!
Excellent and very thorough coverage. Will use VST Connect between may main studio and our remote.
Thanks for this great video. First how to set it up, but also to see it working. I will use it soon
This is one video to be watched multiple times.
Great walk-through, thank you Chris!
Thank you, Chris! One thing I would like to add is the importance of sending the cue mix sends of each channel in Cubase back to the performer so they can hear the music. I'd never used the control room before in Cubase (never needed it) and so when I tried VST Connect Pro yesterday, I had to train myself to enable the cue send for VST connect on every new audio track in the session, otherwise the performer couldn't hear it.
The other thing was the "master" fader not being automatically assigned to the performer's main outputs, so I had to set that manually as well. But all of my other questions, you answered! I'm very grateful!
I am having the problem with the performer. I can hear them and record them but they cannot hear anything from my side including talkback, metronome or any music I have written my end. The meters show activity in the control room but that’s as far as it gets. I will try what you say.
Thank you Chris for an excellent introduction to VTS connect.
Great video Chris!
Many thanks for sharing your experience on it
I'm now looking forward to try and test the VST Connect SE included in my Cubase 9 Pro software!
Chris, I downloaded the Manual. Then I added yellow pages to my binder, and went thru your wonderful/detailed/ and thorough Tutorial on a piece of software that is critical to understand and have. You are the GOLD standard in Cubase Understanding. While I will study the whole tutorial at least 3 more times, unlike everybody else (besides Ondo) you pre-answer every & all questions and stumbling blocks for us before they even happen. You really are helping all of us make better music, faster. Your "detail" is exactly what's needed. Thank-You
Thanks Chris, I really enjoyed it. VST connect is interesting and I hope to use it in the near future. Cheers!
Merci pour ce magnifique cours. Je viens de retourner avec Cubase depuis plusieurs années et je suis grandement satisfait!!!
Men, you are awesome. thanks a million.
Great video, I wasn't sure of giving a go to this thing, I think it will be very useful to me. It seems to be an awesome feature.
Thanks
Merci ! Le meilleur tuto VST Connect ! :)
HI CHRIS
Just getting started and I reaLLY appreciate your tutorial as it helps tremendously. Just a reminder when you do these sometimes you move your mouse a little too fast but what a great session .Thank you so much.
Very helpful - especially for the Covid tunes! Thanks
You answered many questions. Thank you so much for posting this!
You are so welcome!
Thanks for your video Chris!
Vst connect is seems to be a big solution to distant problem and collaborations!
Super helpful tutorial, about to start using myself.
Love it, thank you man! 😁🎵
De loin le meilleur vidéo sur VST Connect. Félicitation Chris !!!
Merci Yves :-)
Hey Chris, Great Explanations... Now I understand, how it works ! I think the most important thing is, to understand, how the datastreams are organized and which knob changes things on which side.... I think I'll by the Pro version..... stay healthy all together..... Wolfgang
Wow what a great video! Thank you for the information,I'm just now starting to use this part of Cubase connect pro with a friend of mine in California.
You're very welcome! Hope it you enjoy working with VST Connect!
Best video to understand this fabulous technology.
Thanks!
Great video...thank you! I have done a few VST Connect SE sessions w/ singers from NYC and Vancouver and I watch this video before each session to remind me about how to set it up properly. It works great but I agree w/ your comment at the end of your video: it takes awhile to get it working properly. Thanks again for this and for your other informative Cubase videos!
That is awesome! You're welcome!
I'm SOLD! The possibilities are endless!
Gonna start with the SE version until I'm able to purchase Connect Pro.
Thanks, once again, Chris. Another Cubase dark room lit up!
You're welcome!
Great video... looking forward to checking this out... been looking for way to do this. Thanks Chris
Hope you enjoy it!
I know this is old but man this was such an incredible tutorial wow!!! THANK YOU!
thanks Chris. Fantastic tutorial!
Thank you for the great video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've been wanting to try this, but like you said, there's a steep learning curve. So thank you for cleaning the window I was looking at it through and removing the big pile of gravel that was in front of the window.(:>)
Glad I could help! :-)
Thank you, very, very helpful
Thank you Chris for an excellent introduction to VTS connect. Clear and concise. I had to watch your video a number of times to get my head around it but it was worth it. I have a friend in Canada (lm in Germany) and we want to record her on oboe and me on piano and your video has given me the incentive to try it using VST connect. As she has no experience with computers I will have to setup a performer account on another computer and try out the setup before teaching her remote what to do. I’ll get back to you and let you know how we get on. Thanks again. Will check out your other video know. Regards Brian
Enjoy!
I used this week VST Connect for the first time to explore the possibilities and it is exactly how you said: it will allways better to have a inhouse recording but now in time of corona it is a very helpfull tool!
Great to hear!
i picked up VST Connect Pro over the weekend. The documentation is poor and the learning curve is kind of high, but once I understood what it is supposed to do (and why) I was able to get it going and have had a few sessions already. Thank you for this! For a future episode, maybe you can go over troubleshooting VST Connect. I stumbled on fixes for my problems but it took a while.
As a cubase pro i must say absolutely competent and great explanation of this at first sight complex tool that offers so much possibilities. Absolutely what i was looking for and thanks for this professional video. I hope they will fix the ios performer app to the new login procedure without sending a key (may 2020) then i will use it in my seminars with students. Anyway great vid, great guy, great friends.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video. Thank you 👍
I dreamed of it, and Chris did it. Bravo Chris et merci beaucoup
Bienvenue Thierry :-)
Hey Chris, that was great fun! 👍 At some point I have to upgrade to 10.5 and try VST Connect Pro. Never had online collaboration, but it's definitely a great thing I'd like to try out. But first I have to finish some projects. Looking forward to seeing you in the next video!! Bye for now! 🙂
Awesome! Thanks for watching Frank!
THANK YOU for this video!
You are so welcome!
Thanks. That was very helpful!
You're welcome!
Thank u chris.. Ur video is awesome i like the musicians also its really good job.. u explain everything in this video for beginner and professional.. 🌹
Glad you liked it!
Awesome 👏
Another well explained and helpful video Chris thank you...!! Used VST Performer and connect pro last night with a friend . Had some issues withthe tqalkback in terms of he could hear me while couldn't hear him. Then I could hear him but he couldn't hear me. There was a short period where it worked perfectly but this was only for a couple of minutes.. We'll continue to work at it. Wondering if there is there anything obvious that we have missed ...!!
Great stuff, thank you:)
this is great thanks so much for this
You're very welcome!
Nice that someone finally explaines this. there are some videos out, but they are all kinda really old. BUT I think you missed to explain on the main source of all problems with this : The part where you show detailed adjustments for the talkback setup on both sides, the part where you show how to exactly choose the audio card and the relevant outputs and an example how to send the cue mix to the performer side. This is where after my experience 95% of all users fail to use this ! They simply don't get it right with the talkback and the cue sends... and where to manually insert the vst connect plug ins for a better understanding. would be interesting to see, if I'm right there and users leave their experience with this in the comments...
I think that was clear with the process, but if I get a lot of questions in the coming days and weeks about this, I'll be more than happy to do a follow up video :-)
Thanks a lot! 😃👏
Thank you for that video. It clearifies the whole thing a lot since the manual wasn't written that well. It would be great if you could show a drum recording session as well. I guess that the musician has to set the phase for each channel already correct from his side.
Yes, the musician would have to work the phase out on his side
This lesson will be watched a few more times, When this was first out a few years ago I was at Long and McQuade in Toronto at the Cubase users group. Nice work Chris, Still pretty deep but would love to try it. You used midi for the drums correct. Cheers and keep up the awesome education clips :-) Sincerely, Bruce
Yes I used programmed drums for this one :-)
Merci très utile daniel ville de Bordeaux
🙂
Nice...
Thank you thank you thank you....Steinberg's most recent setup video is just horrible. Needed this and I hope they will see this. If they want people to use the program they should have put time into troubleshooting and the whole process.
Happy you liked it David!
Chris thanks for these great videos. I've been having great success tracking individual things like vocals using vst connect se. Have worked from Nashville with friends in L.A. and Tampa. A buddy in Miami has the VST Pro app and we are trying to track an acoustic drum kit. We got as far as setting up 8 mics, getting signal from each of them. From the performer side, I can adjust each fader to adjust the mix in my headphones. However , once we track, it seems all we get is a sub mix. Is there a way to actually record individually channelized and isolated drum mics? I figure if anyone can answer this question it's YOU!!! Once again man, thanks for being a great resource and a champion for educating musicians and recording enthusiasts! Bravo!
Unfortunately, you can't. Those will be on separated tracks once you import the HD Files. Multitrack recording is possible with VST Connect but not very user friendly, something they will need to work on imo.
I will definitely try it with my brother in Florida as a performer. If he can use it, then anybody can do it!!! Thanks so much.
Have fun!
Great video Chris, as always. I've always wonder what it did and how it worked in action.
Thanks 👍
Thanks Chris, you have opened another Door for me within Cubase.
I suspect that some Pro users might not be aware of what is available here.
Happy to help!
Thanks !!
You're welcome!
I watched the video and read the comments (so I didn't hit you with a redundant question). . . First off - Thank you for all you do - your channel is such a help (even if I understand something you cover - I end up with something for watching your videos).
What is the max on the quality side (I noticed you guys did 48k) - and I'm assuming it's limited to the performers interface as well?
Great Video Thank You All
Glad you enjoyed it
WOWOWOWOWOW
Thanks!
Looks great, I always wanted to try and use it. I guess all VST instruments + FX are only local on the sode of the performer? when recording the MIDI are any controller changes / parameter changes recorded on the studio side?
Chris, when you run out of inspiration, haha, would you mind making an update video about VST Connect? I guess it is such a powerful tool but i hear a lot of frustrated people regarding performance and setting it up. Maybe Steinberg improved a lot in the newer versions and it's 3 years later, so... Thanks in advance!
Hi Chris! Great video! Only one person at a time? Greetings from Argentina
Not necessary, you can record more than one instrument/person at a time with the Pro version but they will have to share the same mix though
Thanks a lot for the help. This helped me actually get it going!! I have added my vst3's but it wont let me change the path. I only have access to some vsts. Know a way to set new directory? I only see it for VST2. Thanks again!!!
Thank you so much. I've been struggling with the manual for a while now. Your video really clears things up for me. Question, is it possible for me to record 2 performers at the same time, for example bass in my studio and drums as remote performer?
Never tried it, but I assume you can. You might have some latency issues as far as playback goes. Not 100% sure how that is gonna go, worth a try
Nice demo. A pity, that Steinberg doesnˋt do such useful videos. They only rely on third parties for „masterclasses“. So your video is a realy helpful one. Now Version 5 was launched. So we can do dubbing on movies and scoring on movies.
Happy the video was helpful!
Hey man great tutorial thank you, I must've watched 10 times and counting :) I have just bought the Connect Pro version in conjunction with Cubase 11 so I can record my mates vocals/guitars (not at the same time) during these lockdown times but I have had a few teething problems :) At around 21:00 you explain how to use third party plugins, I cannot see this window in VST Connect Pro 5.0.20. I'm trying to record his guitars and use one of my fab UAD plugins for his guitar sounds - is this possible? and would using a plugin my end cause problems ie latency ? thanks man
Would love to know as well.
This VST Connect lays always as a forbidden territory in my menu 😸. I have never entered there. Thank you for showing us how it works and additionally with real examples!
I didn’t understand good the thing with the sound quality: with pro you get a low quality audio file and later you can download a higher quality one (24 bit, if you set it). But with the no pro version: do you get from the beginning only the 16 bit version?
Hey Chris, awesome job on vst connect.
Is it possible to record more then one session player at the same time? If so what is the limit if any?
I'm looking at bass, drums and guitar at the same time.
Very cool explanation video! Only thing I didn't understand: when you recorded the accoustic guitar of your other friend, you didn't record it on a VST Performer Track? How is this possible? Or can I take every Audio Track and have only to adjust the input of it to "Performer"?
Hey there, many thanks for this massively informative video!! I hope you don't mind me asking, I just got the Pro version 5.0.20.585 and at the settings , I can see the 'Set to HD' option also no 'Encryption' option. Have these become mandatory now and taken off?? Thanks so much!!
Very helpful as I’m looking to attempt to do some long distance collaboration. A concern I do have is distance. Does all this work if the performer is say 600 miles away?
great video thanks!! can the destination folder for hd files on the performer side be changed to different than docs folder?
Really good video ! Seems you must to know the performer in advance and then link but, Is there any possibility on the vst connector to chat with unknow performers? Thanks chris.
No, this tool is designed for online collaboration with a performer you know.
One second delay in the config and you actually tested the same network environment (the local one) and, yeah, for sure it will "work smoothly", there is no wonder it will
Thank you so much for your videos Chris!! Loved the collab.
Could you please tell me if I can use VSTConnect SE if I have a Steinberg UR242 audio interface?? Also I'll be the host and would be recording a friend who doesn't have an audio interface at her end. Could she use a regular headset (with Mic) to record using VST Performer on her end??
Please advise.
It's such a shame that the SE version doesn't support hi res audio. They could've given us one hi res mono signal, it would've been much more useful.
Thanks for doing this video. How does the recording routing work if I record more than two mono tracks simultaneously. Are they still under the stereo track?
Hi chris
what a beautiful explanatory video, don't need the manual anymore!
got a question though
when recording with my friend he can hear and play in sync, but the recording itself is not in sync
I can easily slide the recording in the right position, but I don't see you do that.
I can see that you are playing your recorded music in mix mode while the control room is in cue
we also tried that but it always ends up in a recording with a "delay"
could you give us your solution?
many thanks
keep up those marvelous video's !!!
problem solved
Hey Chris, I'm only asking this because I'm slow 😐
So would others need to have Cubase pro to use this or could it be any other vst software...?
Thanks...
Keep up the good work 👍
Hello, great video! Thanks! How is the video quality, and can you route this to OBS? Or to a stream in general?
I would definitely not use this for a streaming performance on OBS. VST Connect is a remote recording solution more than anything else.
Great video, only I noticed i did not see you do any punch ins and outs, is there to much latency to try to pull that off. or can it be done?
Hi Chris great video as always. Very helpful.are just help out with a issue regarding midi please. I have a friend in Sweden we currently working with on project.i have have the vst instruments on my side i just want him to play on his end and capture on my side.we trying some stuff but we getting a very bad latency any help would be great.
Once again amazing video.big thumbs up👍
Doing it this way will add a lot of latency for sure. If you have the VSTi on your side, just record your friend's MIDI and assign it to your VSTi afterward. In this case, your friend can use any VSTi of his for monitoring only.
Chris, thankyou! I didn't realize that Get HD files was there. We made a track using just the low quality files it sent back. I have a question about cues. Should I be sending the performer the already recorded tracks using cues as the sending method? I have to say, I think this vst connect is amazing. Thanks again!
The only CueMix you send to the Performer is the Performer Cue created by VST Connect :-)
