Why I'm downsizing my Monitor Controller to the RAM SYSTEM 1000
A monitor controller is a very useful piece of gear to have on your desk. It keeps you from having to fiddle around with a bunch of cables… plugging and unplugging stuff to hear different speakers… Swapping over to headphones, etc.
I’ve used the Heritage Audio RAM 2000 monitor controller for quite a while now, but my studio has changed a bit since we moved.
I no longer need all the features this unit has, so I’m giving the RAM 1000 a try!
This one has all the features that I need for my specific use case, and it takes up a good deal less space on my desk.
In this video, I’ll give you an overview of the features and let you know how it compares to the RAM 2000.
Do you use a monitor controller? Which one? Let me know your experience in the comments below!

Is the sound on the baby ram good? Distortion and imaging wise?

can both speaker outs be used at the same time? I would like to have my mains and sub on outs so I can use both or just the tops by turning off the subs.

Its a nice little unit... But truthfully with cubase control room section you don't need any of this. As long as you have an interface with multiple outs nobody needs a monitor station. AND before you say i like the physicals controls you can have any midi controller controller every single aspect of monitoring section and more. For example I have an older DJ controller from N.I. x1 mk2 that not only controls monitor section but also controls all my transport and mixer controls. and you can get those for $80 used. Plus the DJ line of controllers are built for abuse so the knobs are excellent compared to standard midi controllers. Just thought I throw that out there for the budget minded studio producers.... Oh yeah the native looks cooler with the lit leds!

You’re right! I have the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 interface with 8 inputs and 8 outputs (expandable digitally) of which 4 of the XLR combo outputs are for 2 sets of monitors which are switchable in Cubase Pro’s control room (A & B) with their own unique plugin inserts [CORRECTION: IN C.R.'s MONITOR SECTION'] so you can add their own profiles for SoundRef ID which of course activate automatically when A or B are selected. My CC121 controller has a master volume control for control room (positioned closer to me than the Focusrite master volume) so the Scarlett is a perfect match for Cubase Pro. The only downside is it doesn’t integrate with Cubase direct monitoring controls but it has its own such controls in the ‘Focusrite control’ app which is very configurable which also means it takes a while to understand (for me anyway!).

I definitely agree. Plus, using Control Room in Cubase instead of using a piece of hardware preserves the sound from deterioration. I hope someone in the future will make a similar product as a midi controller only.

Agree with others, using Cubase’s Control Room, you don’t need a separate monitor controller, especially if you have a volume knob on your interface. Set that, and then just adjust the volume from within Control Room. I have a knob on my CC121 assigned to do this as well.

@@DanieleZandara That's a great point by going directly out to the monitors you eliminate dealing with degradation of signal, and less cable mess and cost!

Thanks for sharing your perspective! I agree, Cubase has the Control Room that is also awesome as a monitor controller. In my case, I don't use this part of the Control Room, cause I don't only work with Cubase in my line of work, so a monitor controller is very useful when working outside Cubase. But that's me ;-)

    looks nice, but...
    1) The most useful part of the bluetooth interface in a studio would be the ability to check how mixes translates on a bluetooth headphones, instead getting audio from the phone.
    2) i have a correction software to flatten out my wired headphones response. It works very well. Sadly i cannot route to headphone a different source (with corrected signal) with this controller. I always would need to select the #2 while muting my studio monitors.
    3) i hope that the MUTE button doesn't cut headphones as well. Otherwise there would be no practical ways to exclude speaker while listening to headphones. The pdf manual is not clear about that.

      @@Kierant20101) asking why is not the answer to my point. I find useless the ability to monitor a phone while mixing, in opposite a rather prefer the other-way (transmitter) BT feature to chek the translation on cheap earbuds;
      2) No isn't that simple. I feed speakers with uncoreected signal, then i have a second, corrected, signal for the phones.
      3) oh yes, indeed! The point is that A/B switching should be the core for this kind of devices.

I like the Drawmer MC2, small and great sound. It’s passive has a sub out, separate input gain, separate headphone gain, small footprint and no Bluetooth. 😮
I don’t like Bluetooth nore Wifi in
    my studio, everything hardwired.
The less interference the better 😊

It's a fantastic unit but the lack of digital inputs on all these Monitor controllers stops me from buying them. Need a precise control over digital signals. Such a shame nobody makes one of these with a complete set of analog and digital inputs. Nice piece of equipment though!
