Did Inspecting This 2005 Beaver Monterey Make Me Jealous?

- A long time customer and viewer asked me to work on his 2005 Beaver Monterey. I could not help but to compare the differences and similarities to my 2001 Beaver Patriot Thunder. It's interesting to see the obvious Beaver touches before Monaco completed changed the brand to Monaco clones, which isn't a bad thing, just the end of an era. Before I get to the roof inspection, I try to show things I am very jealous about, and really the biggest item is the chassis.
However, I still am convinced I have the best RV made, it just needs some more upgrades!!!
Thanks for watching!!
Ah, the allure of a younger beaver 🥰
Everyone enjoys inspecting a new beaver.
😁
Strange Beaver is always better !@@ebikecnx7239
nothin better than beaver inspection

You got to love a nice beaver!
Been a while since I've been here, I wound up buying a 1982 MCI MC9 Custom Coach back in January, come to find out it was their Show/Demo coach, made specifically for taking to shows, the first one that they built for show only, before that, they would have to commandeer customer coaches for taking to a FMCA show. I have a lot to learn about this beast, but she is really in good shape for 40 years old, and has a rebuilt 8V92 Turbo in it. I just drove it from Texas to Nappanee Indiana for my first bus rally, with only 5 hours experience behind the wheel, made it back without a scratch. Videos of it, on my channel. Keep up the good work, and making these informative videos.
Gotta love beaver. I know I love beaver of all ages. Of course 18 years or older. Love ya James.
I really enjoyed the in-depth comparison of these two models. There was so much information packed into this video. Thanks!
Dometic roof AC units can't be beat. Mine are 23 years old and still working well.
Interesting, thank you James for the comparison. Happy trails!
Thanks for watching!
Your videos are awesome. Thank you for all the great info.
There really is nothing like a beautiful view and strutting down the freeway in a well maintained, clean, comfy beaver. 🍻✌😎
James you really know your Beavers. While your Beaver is a few years older, it’s still a nice Beaver.
The 2005 really has a sexy looking seamless roof for sure!
I could be wrong but I believe the air over hydraulics thing is a way of getting around certain CDL requirements on commercial chassis. I know they're not required for an RV but the same chassis was probably used on commercial vehicles as well
Your camera angle really brought out the beauty of the paint on that 2005 Beaver. No doubt the owner takes pride in his unit. I love both of these units.I do prefer the shorter unit though.
Nice video lots of information as always James. I also love the 20005 added features to the Beaver motorhome. Thanks for you time, and effort in producing this video for us .
Interesting to see the comparison. I didn’t realize your RV had air over hydraulic brakes. My 2001 Marquis has air disc brakes on all three axles.
I added the Steer Safe system to my Magnum chassis and that made a huge difference.
It’s funny that they still used the 98 Navigator headlights in 05. Beaver must have bought all the old stock from Ford. 🤣
I just put two coats of the clear linoleum floor tile sealer on my roof and that seems to do well with keeping the chalking down for a couple years.
nice Beavers!...thank you James
I just bought a 2001 beaver Monterey Seacliff, I’m in the club!
For salvage parts try Walt’s/Stardeck in Corona.
Great video James, thanks for walking us through. Question: since you are in the RV World and with the price of gas being how high it is, are there more used motorhomes the market now?
Great video James, have you done any roof inspections on early models of AC American Eagle. Used your video to how to prep & re seal spots on my fiberglass roof. Already tried looking thru your past videos to see if you done a inspection on a AE. Keep your knowledge and advice coming. God bless. 😊
I watched a bunch of your videos, and I’m always asking myself. “why is he describing these seemingly ordinary events as ‘fantastic’”, I learned that “fan-tastic” is the model name of the vent…..duh!!😂😂😂😂
Thanks for this great video. I'm looking very hard at a 2004 Beaver Patriot Thunder. Thanks to this video (17:15) I know to ask if the recall was done or if the entire compressor was replaced. You recommended replacing the compressor. Would that solve the fire concerns? It seems like I remember you saying in another video, that you would consider a residential replacement versus replacing the compressor or the 4-door RV fridge. I want the residential due to the extra room and better performance. Do you have a rough estimate of the compressor cost and the labor to install it? How about a rough comparison to replacing it with a residential fridge. In the 2004 I'm looking at, the fridge and a missing washer/dryer are the only major upgrades I will need. Since the 2004 Beaver I'm looking at has the Roadmaster Chassis also, does that help with being able to find parts and service techs to work on it outside of OR?
the cooling unit replacement on a 1200 series is around $2500
That’s funny, I’ve dealt with shadepro many times I just got my fourth dash cover from them today (the others were for past rigs). They are very good quality.
Must be nice to have two Beavers to choose from.
Norcold changed my cooling unit for free in 2019. It had not been changed from 1998.
Found a 2005 Monterey for $50,000 it is beautiful nothing wrong with it. Can’t convince my wife to sell our 2018 Intent 31p for it. 😢
Great comparison! When can we see the interior?
What would you use to coat the rv roof to prevent the chalking (white lines down sides from roof after dampness or rain)? Thank you for all the videos 👍🏼
I have a 2004 Alfa SeeYa and would eventually want to get a Beaver! Generator slide a must as I don’t have one on my Alfa.
You don't want your Beaver going bad!!!
Great vid as always! Thx!! All things being equal are there advantages to buying Pre-DEF?!?! Any disadvantages besides age?
pre DEF is what I would look for
@@AZExpert 👍 Appreciate the reply! Thx!
Pre-def is going to be cheaper to run, more fuel efficient and approximately 900 lbs lighter. The pre-def is more reliable, easier to maintain and one doesn't have to buy cat piss to make it run. There are no regen cycles and other quirks to deal with. I might be wrong but I think pre-def has more power.
California appears to be refusing to license pre-def coaches. We can't tell of it means even those already registered in the State or just those trying to register in California for the first time. What CARB is doing remains a mystery. Therefore, expect to see more pre-def coaches coming to market escaping California regulations.
The complexities and added expenses and damn near displacing a half a ton of cargo are what bothered me. FWIW, CAT still makes the C-12 engine. It's only for off road use which means that CAT put their best sensors in their C-12. The C-12 is arguably the best engine ever made for a DP, certainly it was the best engine Beaver ever used. The C-12 remains in production; we just can't have one on the road in an RV.
I'm jealous too!!!
Hi James thanks for the tour!! Can you tell me where I can buy the trim that seal the roof to the side wall? I have a 2003 Beaver Marquis.
I have the same air over hydraulic brake system and was wondering if you knew wher I can get a rebuild kit for the Brake Intensifier as its called. The Thing that looks like a Master Cylinder. Mine has a small leak.
Good job
You told us about the differences between the 2001 and the 2005... I was wondering where the 2003 Beavers stand, specifically a 2003 Monterey 40'? I am travelling to look at one, and wondered how it ranks on your "Beaver Scale"...
Very real Beaver in 2003
@@AZExpert "real Beaver" meaning it has no Monaco features?
Hopefully they will stop using rubber roofs in the future for R v's and go to completely Fiber glass
Interesting comparo. If slide locks aren't necessary , did they supply 'slide locks' to counter consumer fears of that era?
Thanks Like 600!
A beaver is a beaver!
I bought a 2004 Holiday rambler endeavor 17,000 miles mint condition told it was always stored indoors and it looks like it I’ve put 2500 miles on it and in the past three months at what point will I know the low miles was not a curse
Nice video.. Sorry the Beaver Thunder chassis is a problem. Its just not the best Class A ever built now in my eyes. Its painful . I will recover. The plumbing in the Beaver Thunder Patriot service bay is very nice tho. Looks new. 😉😉
Modern coaches with their Independent Front Suspensions really do maneuver better. But they can't beat the C-12 with an Allison 4000 or even get the quality of woods used in the old rigs. Brakes are big differences. The 1998 and 1999 PT's brakes were not as good as the air over hydraulic brakes of the 2000-2002. Of course, the full air brakes used on their top of the line Marquis were a no compromise build.
BTW, James' particular PT has had its water manifold upgraded by the previous owner. James has every reason to gloat over his find. His 455 was the world's fastest production RV until approximately five years ago. Speed often equals efficiency. I talked to one retired RV salesman who claimed that his old PT was clocked by radar at 147 MPH at the bottom of a hill. The manual says that the cruise control works up to 117 MPH.
James' coach has been extremely well cared for and came with a lot of modifications. I have done a few mods on my PT 425 that James' has yet to discover and "borrow." [Teaser! ;-P ]
My employer had replace his one piece windshield on his 2004 American Tradition. It was expensive and difficult to find one and a shop to install. Are two piece easier to deal with? (Assuming so)
When resealing around the roof components, do you need to remove the previous sealant or can you cover it with new?
James just curious when you do these inspections do you fix the problems that you find?
Have you seen Andrew Steele's recent video on the 09 Beaver Coach?
Also Which the RV makers would do something besides roof top air
Beaver! Made some basement A/C two-stage compressor models under the floor in the basement. They take up an entire storage bay but they use full sized replaceable house A/C filters and are extremely quiet with no water trails marring up the beauty of the roof and sides. However, those are not easy to maintain or replace. $
Personal I prefer the 2001.😊
👍🏽
What kind of paint would you recommend to paint the roof?
At what year did the Beaver go to full blown Monaco?
James, if you want to compare the roof of my 2001 PT 425 middle entry to yours, I'd gladly provide mine! 😀 And cover your fees. $
So Monaco bought out the Safari brand? Will my batteries charge if dead for over a year?
2005 front end looks much better, but they're both nice.
Have you ever fell from the top?
How do we contact you. We are in Apache Junction and need help.
I wanna beaver 🦫
Hydraulic brakes suck ,period stop end...... . Can you do a video on breaks 101 ..... So I could stay away from any coach with air over hydraulic.....
My father had 7 motorhomes in his lifetime, 4 gassers, and 3 pushers. His first pusher had air over hydraulic brakes. He kept it for a year and traded it in on an American Eagle. Our Wanderlodge is full air disc brakes all around. Stops fine.
Air over hydraulic were a vast improvement over the earlier brakes, significantly superior. There are trade offs with any and every coach. Consider this: A PT with air over hydraulics listed at $330,000 at the time when a Marquis with full air brakes was $500,000+.
@@DLTJR1959 Mine stops fine. Nevertheless, full air brakes is one reason to upgrade--if one can afford the rig.
