    Dwayne, your list was great. My father owned 2 American Eagles. A 1999 single slide and a 2005 quad slide. He purchased the 99 in 2004 and the 2005 in 2008. We looked at all the brands you listed back in 2018 when we were looking to purchase. We felt that our budget at that time would allow us to get one of those units in a 2000-2006 year model. Well, as luck would have it, we ended up purchasing a 2006 Wanderlodge 450 Lxi. It was more expensive than our original budget, but it is somewhat satisfying to own a coach that no one talks about, but everyone knows the quality of the unit. Thanks again for your videos. For some reason this one slipped by me. I appreciate your channel and your easy going style. Thanks again.

    While your advice makes sense, I had a different experience with a 2006 Monaco DP. First, getting a loan on a coach that old was darn near impossible. Second, parts were difficult if not impossible to find. My fog lights were dead and no one makes them anymore. Monaco made a great coach but you may need to scrounge RV junkyards for replacement parts. I strongly agree that anyone considering purchasing an older coach have a detailed inspection and fluid analysis prior to purchase. Thanks for the video, Duane.

      @@tammy3458 Also be aware that some RV parks won't allow RVs older than 10 years old to camp on their grounds. Many will waive the rule if they see a photo of the rig which shows it is well maintained, others will not. I would not allow that the discourage you from an older coach. Monaco went out of business and that contributed to my problem with spare parts.

    Lenders are getting really tight on used RVs if you need to finance. I suspected that they are seeing that the bottom is falling out of the market. I heard that several want 50% of the sale price down. Used RV prices have started to slip over the past few weeks so I recommend anyone looking for one right now to wait for a few months. I believe would be a time when patience pays off.

    Another advantage of diesels in that year range is they were before DPF and DEF.
    I always advise my inspection customers to take a DP to a Cummins or CAT service center and at least have the computer scanned for past issues. I've found very few buyers are willing to wait the 3-7 days to get the fluid analysis back.

The turbo change was the most time consuming and the cost of the variable turbo was $3700 11 years ago. However its getting pretty tired so I'm shopping for something newer. I was hoping to find something in the 20-teens to replace it so not too excited to hear you recommend older units. However I do agree with most of the brand you have stated. It has the highly desirable 450hp Cummins M11 and 6 speed Allison transmission. It had 111,000 miles on it, has solid Walnut cabinets and 14" quarry tile floors. One of the previous owners had updated the light and plumbing fixtures with black, getting rid of the dated bright brass. They also updated the cabinet and drawer pulls. Do you recommend me getting permission from the private seller to take the coach to a shop and pay the shop to extract the fluids from the engine, tranny, and rear differentials? And if so probably have the shop give it a once over, compression check etc. etc. ?

      Getting a fluid sample is easy enough that the average RV buyer can actually do it on their own. I made a video about that and you can view it here - ua-cam.com/video/abNq3Z8HUJo/v-deo.html . But if it's a private seller and they aren't comfortable with you taking the samples, you could try to find a local repair facility that would be able to do it for you instead.

      Most of the components for older RVs are made by companies that are still in business and can upgrade them for you if they wear out. But if the company that built the RV is no longer in business, getting replacement body parts for walls, end caps and so on in the case of an accident can sometimes be a challenge. But oftentimes there are still ways to get those parts if you plug into the online groups that own that kind of RV. It just takes a little research before you buy an older motorhome to make sure about what the supply chain situation is really like for a particular RV brand that is no longer around.

    Good points, but you really have to think hard about buying the older coaches, 2000 to 2010. But, you had better be real mechanically inclined. Also, rigs with CAT engines are getting harder and harder to find good mechanics to work on them. And parts are a bear to find in a lot of cases. I looked at the older Beavers, but finally bought a 2017 Tiffin Red 33AA that has all I need without a bunch of whistles and bells and no disco interior. Parts are easy to come by.

      Hi Michael. My personal experience has been very positive with our diesel pusher. I have a CAT C7 engine and have never had any trouble finding mechanics or parts for it. Since many of the older CAT engines are used in lots of commercial vehicles as well, there should not be any trouble getting them repaired. Of course, finding mechanics that want to work on an engine from a bedroom opening above it, can be a problem. But that is true of diesel pushers both old and new. I'm glad that you found the motorhome that you feel fits you best. But choosing an older better made diesel pusher has been a good decision for many RVers that I know.

      @@RVInspectionAndCare Maybe it is dependent upon where you are located at getting someone proficient on CAT's. Not knocking the engine, just support for "when stuff happens" on the road.

      Hi Phillip. We have a 2004 Newmar coach and we have traveled all over this country and have never been refused a reservation due to the age of our rig. We have had a few campgrounds ask for a picture to see what shape it's in. But nobody has ever refused us. Many RV parks have the 10 year rule on the books solely to be able to keep out RVs in very poor shape. But the enforcement of the rule is rare in our experience.

    A lot of rv parks don’t allow coaches older than 10 years old

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  2 роки тому

      Actually, many RV parks have a rule about not allowing RVs older than 10 years, but they rarely enforce the rule. It is mainly there to protect them if they decide that they want to refuse service to an RVer whose rig is in extremely poor shape. Of course, there are some RV parks who regularly enforce the rule because they appeal to a high end group of campers who do not wish to be camping next to anything older than 10 years. But there are very few of those out there. I have a 2004 Newmar motorhome and we have traveled extensively throughout the country and we have never been refused entry to any RV park anywhere we have gone.

    actually, in 2008 the industry was required to add DEF to ALL diesels and that alone screwed the engine by chocking it with bullshit piss water. and this is from a certified master truck mechanic that works on transit/commuter busses.

      Many certified NRVIA inspectors perform a fluid analysis as part of their inspection. But you can also do it yourself. It's not that hard to get the samples and then send them off for analysis. You can find everything you need here - jglubricantservices.com/

    You cut off the quality at 2007. I was interested in the Comfort Drive Steering and I see Newmar started offering those in 2007. It seems like in 2008, they started putting in all their diesel models. Do you know what models had this in 2007? I really want to stay below $100K and that might not be possible if I want this option. What do you think about it?

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Рік тому +1

      I'm sorry but I may not be able to help with your question. This video is about two things. (1) Finding luxury diesel pushers under $100K in cost, and (2) buying the best quality brands from the 2000 - 2007 era of motorhomes. I know that a lot of other videos focus on specific features, but that is not the focus of this channel. I realize that Comfort Drive Steering is important to you, but I caution you not to get too focused on one or even a few features, when the quality of the RV should be the first consideration. I hope you understand.

      Thanks Jeff. There are several more brands that I could recommend from that time period. It was sort of a golden age for Class A motorhomes. And yes, Travel Supreme would be a fine choice for a motorhome from that time period. Sadly they did not survive the 2008 financial crash and Jayco purchased their assets. Some say that Entegra is the modern descendant of Travel Supreme. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for supporting this channel Jeff!

      This is a subject that you hear a lot about online, but the truth is that very few parks enforce the 10 year rule in practical application. We have stayed at campgrounds all over the country and have never once been denied entry based on the fact that our coach is a 2004. The only parks that seem to enforce such a rule are high end parks that have high camping rates anyway and want to appeal to a wealthier consumer.
