Fun and helpful! I’m jealous as I only have a new 128 SanDisk card and one battery. Sitting and waiting till Dec 4th. I’ll come back to this video when I get the camera, and play with all the settings. Feels like I’m on this adventure right behind you. I have two A7Rii’s that will soon be jealous and less used. Will keep one as a backup, sell off the other.
i totally agree with you on users complaining about the menu. Sure there's a lot of options but you can customize your buttons and also set your function menu to your liking. the only thing i go into the menu most of the time is to format my card, and that's not very often.
joystick is a nice feature but I've set my buttons on my a7r1 to act like one. center to toggle focus points and hitting the trash would re-center the points. works well. i shoot mainly images so this works for me. i can't speak for others.
Men, can you test for SLOG3 in grade, and 4k FF noise in dark and :) damn rolling shutter jelly or not?

Got mine today and noticed it took a lot more force to attach lenses compared to the A7Rii. Not sure if this is related to additional Weather sealing?
I got my A7Riii this past Monday! In the process of setting up my menu settings as well. Any idea how to setup the video function to quickly switch from 1080p 120fps to 4k 24fps on the fly? I assume memory recall settings are the best way haven't tested it yet. Just a tip Jason but if you leave e-front curtain Shut. on make sure to turn it off for taking pictures of fast moving objects at high shutter speeds will give you ghosting and it may not work with adapted lenses.

Jason, how are you recording the navigation of the a7r iii menus? I see you have the camera tethered. Are you tethered to a computer? If so, what software is displaying the a7r iii menus live?

Hey Jason, quick question for you - is there a simple way to display date/time so its easy to verify they are correct?
Can you test out how non-native lenses work with both the metabones and MC-11 adapters?
Long exposure NR is not the same thing as regular noise reduction just so you know. When you shoot long exposure photos the sensor tends to get hot and there will be some hot pixels which is not regular noise. With long exposure NR the camera takes another photo with the shutter blocking any light hitting the sensor with the exact same setting as you used on your long exposure photo to identify those hot pixels and then eliminate them. You will still need to do some regular NR after that as well.

Great vid, can you set any of the custom buttons to change the storage folder ? example Folder 101 press a button and change to next folder 102. Really handy for horse photo shoots so i can put each competitor in a separate folder.

Just saw this and I was/am the same way: camera coming at the end of June (I hope) for my ID4 trip: got 2 batteries with a dual charger (batteries charged), 2 lenses (deciding on #3), lens protector, new flash (works well on my a6300), 128GB UHS-II card (Sony) plus other goodies. I cannot wait.

FYI Long Exposure Noise Reduction does affect the RAW files. It exposes a dark image right after and subtracts it to reduce the noise. The disadvantage is that every long exposure image takes twice the time to shoot ("Processing...").

Hi Json, does Sony a7r3, have an aspect ratio guide that can be used while shooting in the field? Like 4x5 or 1x1 or 16x9 etc? Default is always 2x3. You skipped the Aspect ratio setting.

Question: Nowhere in the instructions so they say what the different settings are for the selector? Is "M" manual? where are these in the manual?
Customizing your camera it exactly what it being a photographer is all about, customizing your tools to make them work for YOU! My A7r ii & 6300s got the same, so settings and customizing buttons match with the C buttons. Excited about picking up the mk3 in the near future. Maybe a s3??? Love from Ohio!

Hi Jason, im a proud owner of a A7RIII. My first lens is the 35 2.8. Problem: i almost cannot mount that lens, i have to use a lot of force to do that, should i bring it back?
I'm curious if you ever loaded the EOS Color Pro 3 profile. The a7Riii isn't one of the cameras they list as compatible. And thanks for the great video.
my sony a7r iii jpeg image size only has 36m, 15m, and 8.9m

You can still send a jpeg to your phone even if you shoot only in raw. What benefits to doing raw+jpeg am I missing here?

Jason !!.... HELP!!! I just purchased an A7R3 and LOVING it. There’s a feature on it that creates proxy files on the SD card. All the tutorials I’ve watched shows how to “ create “ proxies.. BUT I don’t need that since A7R3 already does it. I just want to know how do I import both files and attach connect them in Premiere Pro? You would be my hero!!!!

Go to the Custom Key for photos and change the Focus hold to eye AF

Hi! Could you please give me you thoughts... Im bought A7R III and now look for the lenses. I was a canon user so im confused. The options are: get 50mm 1.4 zeiss planar and then i will buy 35mm and 85 or 135. Or start with 24-70 2.8 gm and then add 85 or 135. I shoot mostly girls portraits at studio (80%), and on location. And also i shoot content for IG for local business (clothes, cosmetics). And really shot videos for IG. Could you please help me. I cant wait to purchase my lens and start shooting 😍

I just purchased the A7Riii, and was wondering if you ran into the same problem as me. When I'm in movie mode (running 1080p at 120fps), for some reason I'm not able to adjust my shutter or aperture. It stays constant at 1/120 and 1.4 (with my 35mm 1.4 lens). Is there a setting that I can adjust the shutter?
Make sure your S&Q settings are set to Manual as well. It is default Program Auto

Hi.. quick question about RAW + JPEG.. i understand that its a debate about what to choose (raw or jpeg), each has its own plus & minus.. But why bother choosing RAW+Jpeg? I understand you need the jpeg for Instagram.. But It takes alot more space that Raw only. And when you setting your file output to Raw only, it automaticly converts to JPEG in your phone when transfering with play memories mobile app.. And can easily access on the fly to export to Instagram
Ashadi Budi it's simply personal preference. I shoot RAW only as I do a lot of of post work so having JPEG isn't really useful for my needs but my colleague she shoots JPEG+RAW mainly so that she can get a reference after compression. It boils down to preference but if you are editting photos RAW is the way to go but JPEGs are great for those who aren't into full post work and aren't bothered by software adjustments to it, as my colleague said she gets by because she only tweak minor things so JPEG is more efficient for her and if there was ever anything that needed major fixed she is at ease knowing she has a RAW file, now thats her reason but everyone is different. As for the play memory I probably used it once. It was when I took a pic of my Mom and Dad and she begged me to send it to her quick so I used it for that reason, other than that I stick with doing things the long way. So just find out what shooting form suits you

Three spare batteries that you'll never use. I have an extra battery for my a9 that I have yet to use. My grip provides all day use. I recently shot an entire college basketball game and only went through half of one of the batteries in my grip. It doesn't hurt having extras just for piece of mind.
Depens on your use case scenario, if you go with shooting video, then you're battery gets eaten alive. I personally had 1 battery + 2 spares for video shooting, so 3 in total.
And i`d usually wear 2 to 2.5 batteries doing a video day.
Was this with the new Z batteries that the A7rIII and A9 use?

what color space to you set and why
My understanding is the the color space only matters for JPEG. If it's a RAW file then it doesn't matter and I'm pretty sure Lightroom uses ProPhoto RGB color space for editing, and then sRGB when you export, or Adobe RGB for when you print.
Regardless, what do you want to do with the photos? Put it on the web? sRGB since most monitors can display all of those colors. Print? Adobe RGB.
But this is how I understand it, I've never gone through to fully confirm.
