As someone who is transitioning from being a long time Canon user to using the Sony A7Riii, obviously the menu structure is completely different between the two - I found this video to be fantastic. Super clear, easy to understand and helpful. Thanks!
This video is GOLD!! I like that you not only describe what a setting does, but also why it does what it does. A must-watch for a7iii users wanting to get the most out of their camera!
That video was anything but dry. It was PHENOMINAL ! I have subscribed and look forward to more of your work. So hard to separate the trash from the quality on the internet. Thank you for your effort. Grateful.
You are a good man Charlie Brown! I’m renting this camera for the most important gig of my life this week. After watching this whole thing I feel less nervous I’m going to forget to toggle something that will mess everything up! Thank you.
What an amazing walk through of the menu system. Excellent work. I watched Tony Northrup's video and Jared Polin's video. None of them covered the menu system like you have done it. Jared didn't even know the meaning of many menu settings you have excellently explained. Thanks so much. I have saved it to my Playlist and am going to refer to it again and again.
Really love how you went in depth and explained everything in detail. Even when you didn't use certain settings, you still explained it without bashing it in case someone can make use of it or if they preferred it. Some people will not explain something just because they don't like it or use it but you thoroughly described each function and gave objective and positive information. Super High Quality on your part. Thank you very much for your explanation. I learned a lot with you!
This is exacly how a guide/tutorial should be. Fast, total and 100% informative. No clowninsh timewasting entertainment crap like all the others. Great post m8!!
I am a person of unique perseverance. Feels good and also feels good to have a starting point for the A7r iii I just unboxed. Thanks for a great video. You are a person of unique stamina to have managed to get through that lot with barely pausing for breath. V impressed and thank you again for the work put into this.
I just switched over from Olympus to a Sony a7III and this was extremely helpful in learning my new camera. The Sony menu system is definitely not ideal but that "My Menu" tab sure makes up for it! Thanks a bunch!
This was perfect no fluff just the dirt we need. Everything was well explained (at least enough for me) and then on to the next without all the crap others throw in threre. Thank you!
Thank you! It took me two days to go through the menu with you and don`t get crazy in the proces :) Very, very helpfull. I learned a ton of useful and two tons of useless things that are there in the menu but it was totaly worth it!
It may be a long video about dry material, but I laughed quite a few times and watched the whole video. Thanks so much for making this, it was definitely useful!
This is an amazing collection of information and useful knowledge. Your ability to present on this platform is incredibly helpful. I appreciate the effort that you made to instruct us in using this camera. Thank you.
Thanks for producing this video. Having shot Canon for 15-years now and switching to Sony is akin to going from a PC to a Mac. A whole no system to learn. Thanks!
Looks like a great video to getting into the dirty details! For those who are big fans of Sony products, it is no surprise that the menus are deep and the learning curve can be steep... But for some, that's actually a good thing, as it affords a degree of control that other products don't provide... And after all, some of the features only need be visited once to get things set up the way you want! I had an A7rii and was not happy with it in some regards, but this version appears to be an upgrade, and actually appears to make for a camera worth hanging on to! Time will tell... 😃
Just switched to Sony and was thrown through a loop when I opened up the menu. This was extremely informative and I made it through no problem 😊 thank you!
The a7iii is my first Sony camera coming from Canon so this was incredibly helpful, thank you so much, this was way more informative than the manual, thank you!
Nice, I've considered it a few hundred times. I'm going to hold off until the S III announcement before charting my next move. I'm crossing my fingers for 4k/60p and higher bitrates. Beyond sensor performance, Sony hasn't brought us any improvement in video capture since the a6300... the S III at least needs to be an answer to Panasonic's advances.
Jeff Ello, yes the A7SIII will be a video monster for sure. I can use the A7III right now, and if the SIII is great, I will add that to my kit too. Cheers
What an excellent video! I say again--excellent. You have technical understanding coupled with a dry and clever sense of humor, and this made my learning process easy and painless. Thank you. Like others among your viewership, I am a Canon user going back to the 5D classic (which I still own and use). I won't say that I'm transitioning to Sony as I have already owned the Sony A7RII. But your video has made things clear to me, clearer than ever before.
On this Sony A7r III 3 an important thing is missing which is the color inversion or negative. Very useful for reproducing color or black and white negatives. Many photographers have these negatives in stock and could digitize them. I hope this message reaches Mr. Sony's ears.
This was so helpful thank you! I stayed until the end, that's how helpful it was. Did you know you obviously liked the slideshow setting as you repeated it!
Dude... your a fucking legend.. songs will be written about you and played from the heavens for all eternity, you wonderful detailed nerd you... seriously though thanks man, what a crazy amount of time and effort you put in, really appreciate it!!
Thank god someone did this. Monumental effort. You technical knowledge is awe inspiring. I'm sure I'll be going back to this many, many times (I've already reviewed a few times).
a note: compressed is 14 bit, it only shoots 12bit when in continuous shooting mode with compressed RAW or in BULB mode if you forget to turn the long exposure noise reduction off.
Excellent ! Thank you very much for your help with these awful menus! I don't understand why they do not provide a detailed paper manual as the other manufacturers...
Man, that was really comprehensive and absolutely useful to me. I have looked high and low for a PDF, or preferably a flip book, that has what I just learned and logged 13 (thirteen!) legal sized pages full of notes. Nice job! I took notes on your settings of course. Do you have videos on how you tweak those for different shoots?
Damn this is very well presented and very informative. Straight to the point w compkete explanations. I thought it would be boring but its not. Please make more videos. Thank you!!!
The best tutorial found in UA-cam. One hour, well worth spending. Its not boring, quiet informative Great Job Sir!
Thank you kindly.
As someone who is transitioning from being a long time Canon user to using the Sony A7Riii, obviously the menu structure is completely different between the two - I found this video to be fantastic. Super clear, easy to understand and helpful. Thanks!
Thanks much :)
This video is GOLD!! I like that you not only describe what a setting does, but also why it does what it does. A must-watch for a7iii users wanting to get the most out of their camera!
Wow! I just ordered my a7iii, to replace my Canon 80D, and I sat here glued to my screen for the entire video. Thank you so much for all of the info!
Glad it helped :)
The most informative video I’ve seen on the Sony mirrorless menu by a mile...Refreshingly knowledgable and extremely well explained.
Thank you kindly

Thank you. I agonize over accuracy, which is why I'll never have time to do many videos. :)
@@Photonarmy I like detail oriented people :) since I am one too :D I just have a youtube channel though :)
Really love how you went in depth and explained everything in detail. Super High Quality on your part. Thank you very much for your explanation. I learned a lot with you!
Thank you kindly. It is definitely a struggle explaining a function that you wouldn't use yourself... I just assume there's a case for everything. :)
Your sense of humor fits with mine perfectly......even though this was extremely dry, you made it worth watching!!
Wonderful video. I've had the A6000, A6500, A7Rii, and now the A7iii, and still found this video very informative. Thank you.
This is exacly how a guide/tutorial should be. Fast, total and 100% informative. No clowninsh timewasting entertainment crap like all the others. Great post m8!!
Thank You so much for taking the time to put this together, Sony should be paying you a fortune.

You are a person of unique stamina to have managed to get through that lot with barely pausing for breath. V impressed and thank you again for the work put into this.
Coming from Nikon, this is the best video I've seen yet. Very informative. thank you Jeff!
But it still looks pffffff😱. Thinking to switch my D750 but this menu is so hard to learn. Not?
Nasir Quadri ok, I can deal with a learning proces of 1 or 2 weeks but let’s hope it’s not gonna turn into a nightmare for me 🙂
I just switched over from Olympus to a Sony a7III and this was extremely helpful in learning my new camera. The Sony menu system is definitely not ideal but that "My Menu" tab sure makes up for it! Thanks a bunch!
One of the very best a7 setup videos I’ve seen!
Thanks for taking the time! This made my life as a new A7iii user a lot easier.
Glad it helped, welcome to the alpha team

Bless you sir. I just went through the entire video with my A7 III. I feel like I have a much better understanding now as I switched from Canon.
Epic endeavor Jeff. Your tone and pace made this watchable; given the content and length of this piece, thats saying something.
It may be a long video about dry material, but I laughed quite a few times and watched the whole video. Thanks so much for making this, it was definitely useful!
great video! I learned a lot about my new camera and I also discovered I am a person of unique perseverance!
The truest journey of personal discovery. :)
42:47 you did slideshow twice
i watched the whole thing. thank you for this
This is an amazing collection of information and useful knowledge. Your ability to present on this platform is incredibly helpful. I appreciate the effort that you made to instruct us in using this camera. Thank you.
Thanks so much for this. I am a recent Sony Switcher who has never used a Sony camera and this was very useful.
Kudos. I love your dry humor. Very helpful video. I appreciate your time.
Just purchase a7iii, made it to the end and cheers mate.
This is a great video for first timer using Sony Alpha cameras. A big thumps up!!
Thanks for producing this video. Having shot Canon for 15-years now and switching to Sony is akin to going from a PC to a Mac. A whole no system to learn. Thanks!
Just migrated from canon to sony and this was immensly helpful really solid vid.
Loving this. My A7iii arrives tomorrow and I am mentally preparing for the high learning curve.
We just loved the last expression that you gave.
I spend the vast majority of my life making that face. :)
Switching from Canon to Sony and found this extremely useful!

i am just setting up my new a73's for a couple of wedding over the weekend.. this vid helped me greatly.
WA1NO Good luck :)
You should do videos more. Excellent speech craft, very concise. Exactly what I needed.
Just to say that it was wonderful! Best tutorial I have seen about a7 III menu. Thank you very much!
Just switched to Sony and was thrown through a loop when I opened up the menu. This was extremely informative and I made it through no problem 😊 thank you!
That was a great explanation of the menu settings. Much better than going through the book. I look forward to more videos on the A7!
Thanks great post. I have A7RIII and have ordered the A7III also. Cheers
The a7iii is my first Sony camera coming from Canon so this was incredibly helpful, thank you so much, this was way more informative than the manual, thank you!
Just got an A7iii, and this was very helpful. Thanks.
Moved from Canon to Sony. This video is outstanding 👍
Much appreciated.
this is really a big effort to finish explain every item. Thanks for your hardwork
Thanks, i have the A7RIII and have ordered the A7III.

Just got my a7iii yesterday. This video was *incredibly* helpful! Thank you so much for making it!
Nice information and presentation, thanks
Most comprehensive and useful menu review that I found! Thx and much appreciated!!
Love your sense of humor! Comes in handy with a Sony menu system tutorial.
Great video, thanks for taking the time to do it. Super helpful to get such an overview, and get things setup the way I want.

Great set of instructions, this explain all my questions, now I'm ready to go take some pictures.
Made it to the end, dude thanks this was very helpful!! Good job by the way :)
This was so helpful thank you! I stayed until the end, that's how helpful it was. Did you know you obviously liked the slideshow setting as you repeated it!
I was demonstrating the slideshow repeat functionality. That is my story. :)
You are the funniest photographer I know 🙂
Thank you, sir! Excellent info. Subscribed your channel.
Dude... your a fucking legend.. songs will be written about you and played from the heavens for all eternity, you wonderful detailed nerd you... seriously though thanks man, what a crazy amount of time and effort you put in, really appreciate it!!
Thank you so much!!! This was exactly what I needed!
Nice and concise! You got the Swt. V/H AF area a bit wrong though.....it uses the exact AF point chosen by you in vertical or horizontal shooting.
Thanks! I preorded mine from Amazon yesterday. I'll go through this when I get it!
Man you have a great radio/tv voice man. You should seriously looking to doing podcasts or something. Im not gay btw haha
Amazing video, thanks! I should've done this the day I bought the camera. So many tricks :)
Thank god someone did this. Monumental effort. You technical knowledge is awe inspiring. I'm sure I'll be going back to this many, many times (I've already reviewed a few times).
lol i just suscribed right away. i like your humor and how informative you are. thanks man
Great! Please keep on doing viedos about a7R III. Congrats!
a note: compressed is 14 bit, it only shoots 12bit when in continuous shooting mode with compressed RAW or in BULB mode if you forget to turn the long exposure noise reduction off.
Definitely seems to be an oversight on my part. Now I'm all curious and want to do some more testing this weekend.
Thanks for this walkthrough, very useful when setting up my camera. Greetings from the Netherlands
Thanks for that video. That helped a lot getting the camera known!
Shewwww Made it. Most informative A7iii setup video on youtube. Thank you, I appreciate it. Liked, Subbed and Belled
Ding ding ya'll :)
Awesome thanks so much!
thank you!!!! best one yet
Thanks. Very helpful. Waiting for the focus video. Please hurry.
Excellent run through.
Excellent ! Thank you very much for your help with these awful menus! I don't understand why they do not provide a detailed paper manual as the other manufacturers...

Thank you kindly :)
Great video with clear explanations. Thank you.
Thank you very much! Look forward to your other videos.
I have no idea why this was so enjoyable.
Andy Grizzell it's laced with subliminal profanity and a mild disdain for authority. ;)
Thanks, it was perfect, maybe made for video also. Video side is black to me, and I can't find how to get slow motion.
I watched it to set up my RX100M7. Very similar interface. Thanks
Glad it helped :)
Great video! Do you have a video with a more deep explanation about focus modes? thanks...
awesome hugely helpful and I had to crack up as I was mirroring your pose at the end - shouldn't watch late at night :-) :-)
There were lots and lots of retakes for each section because I kept trying to "say it better". That pose at the end was not acting. ;)
Man, that was really comprehensive and absolutely useful to me. I have looked high and low for a PDF, or preferably a flip book, that has what I just learned and logged 13 (thirteen!) legal sized pages full of notes. Nice job! Thumbs up for this video !
Great vedio very helpful
Thank you Jeff! It's so helpfull. This camera is a beautiful and complex beast.
Awesome video. Just the information needed, although that is quite a lot.
Damn this is very well presented and very informative. Straight to the point w compkete explanations. I thought it would be boring but its not. Please make more videos. Thank you!!!
Great video and description of each use, nice calm voice!!
Cheers Jeff much appreciated.
Well done! Very useful for the a7iii thanks.
