Honesty I hate to be that one guy, but I wish the sport would just grow a pair of balls and just increase the horsepower on the superspeedways. Cuz honestly it's pretty disappointing when you are waiting for a super speedway race where the cars are supposed to be zipping around like its no tomorrow..only to have an even worse 510 package because the sport is too scared of a catch fence crash that happened over 30 years ago

@@crazypnut9260 They got scared of the fence crash Bobby Allison had, but then the resulting package opened their eyes to the mayhem of pack racing.
So they just kept doing it, no matter how many people got hurt. It hasn't been about safety since 1988.
NASCAR knows it can safely pull off derestricted superspeedway races where the cars spread out and there are few wrecks, but they won't do it because they love gimmicks. Packs are the ultimate gimmick, which is why they've been chasing that on intermediates for the past 3 years.

I always knew that the reasoning for lower horsepower wasn't mainly for new OEMs but for engine reliability, the 900hp motor were usually limited to a single race before rebuilds and lowering it somewhat allowed them to last at least 2 races which was preharps wise in a sports with declining revenues.

    • @Thraser999

Normally, this knind of engines like to run better in their unrestricted way, the years of 900HP since the introduction of EFI, I've seen less engine blowouts than the past few seasons with the dreadful 550HP package...

    • @1320crusier
      @1320crusier 3 роки тому +1

If you freeze the engine design and only allow for reliability upgrades then that solves much of the problem. So would a hard RPM limit.
The flat tappet cams and lifters were the biggest part of the problem and NASCAR mandated roller cam bearings and lifters for the 750 era. Those 2 things would have made the unrestricted engines last a lot longer so your claim still doesnt fit.

7:49 The answer is: lower the car to the ground as much as you can, but without running the risk of stalling the rear diffuser (aka not enough airflow under the car). Also, the cars will have to be stiffer to minimize the aero sensitivity to ride height changes on bumps, cause again that affects the diffuser as you said. I think that this will revolutionise car setups on road courses too.

This is great news. By all indications they've given up their "dream" of pack racing at all the intermediate tracks. IMO NASCAR has dramatically overestimated the appeal of pack racing, and I'd probably watch very little NASCAR going forward were that the model. Yes, I understand Daytona and Talledega get a lot of eyeballs. The questions are why, and what does it do for the sport? Everything about the two tracks is made for promotion. They're the biggest races. They're the SUPER!!! speedways so the NASCAR-curious are going to think that's where the best racing can be found. Especially as much effort as NASCAR and the networks put into promoting them. There's an important thing NASCAR misses, however. How many casual or one time viewers become fans of the sport as a result of watching pack racing? Based on the trajectory of the sport I'd have to say none. Yeah. None. I know for a fact I'm not even close to the only long time fan to say I don't like these races. I talk to far too many at races and in other places to believe that. No one I know has EVER said to me "gee, I sure wish we could run 190mph parking lots that turn into 190mph junkyards every week!" This is a move back toward the things that put NASCAR on a rocket in the 1990s and early 2000s. It's a simple formula that every racing fan can understand. If you have the best setup and the best driver you'll pass cars. If you don't you'll get passed. If you move forward by keeping the throttle pinned all the way around, taking a big chance at the right time, and having a buddy to hammer on your bumper that's not racing. As it said in the video, I want to see come-rs and go-ers. I want to see teams playing tire strategy. I want to hear crew chiefs say wow, I guess we missed the setup this week. I want to see big catches like we've seen during testing...and no one can make those big catches when there's another car running 0.001 seconds behind them.

This is great news! Can't wait for next season! As for field sizes for Speedweeks for Cup, I have a strong feeling we would have at least 37-39 there. Not a huge difference, but will be a first to have less cars start the 500, even if by 2 or more cars.

So let me get this straight. NASCAR wants to attract a new manufacturer with lower horsepower? Has anyone taken the time to think for one second about how stupid all of us have been since the day this turd from Italy began the design process? XFINITY STILL HAS 725 HORSEPOWER, EVERY MANUFACTURER INVOLVED HAS A CAR/TRUCK IN ALL THREE SERIES. So what the hell does lowering horse power actually accomplish? Not a damn thing.
Those manufacturers are still going to be building an Xfinity car with more horsepower than a Cup car has unless they only want to participate in the Cup series, and I just don't see how that's viable when there's two other series on your TV they won't be part of in any way. It literally makes ZERO sense at all. Dodge makes Pick up trucks, Nissan does and so does Honda (though it's a gutless joke of a pickup in comparison) So what gives?
No talk of Nissan or Honda coming, Dodge is rumored, but what does lowering power in Cup actually do in any way to entice a new brand when they still have Xfinity to worry about? They have to have a line up the ladder with their cars for future drivers. They can't have a gaping hole in manufacturer backed driver development or they'll fall way behind quickly. It's the biggest joke of an excuse to slowly get people used to what the lower power of electric hybrid engines will look like in the future because guess what. 670 everywhere but Daytona Talladega and Atlanta shows me one thing. That's what they expect the hybrid engine to make, the 510 is what the non hybrid engine at plate tracks will make since you can't regenerate any power when you're totally flat out. They're conditioning you. Flat out, plain and simple.

You know that F1 hybrids make like 1000 horsepower right? NASCAR will probably raise horsepower once we get hybrids. The REAL reason they lowered the horsepower is because the engines were too unreliable at 800+ and the cost of constantly building engines was far too high for the teams to sustain during NASCARs decline period. Hybrids are far more reliable and it can be expected that the Hybrid engines raise the horsepower to about 700-900 as a result.

I don’t fully agree that 21XI paid 3 million above market price for the sole reason of advanced chassis development. I think between their close ties with TRD /JGR and higher budget than most other newer teams that they would quickly make up the couple months lost. However i think they’re thinking ahead towards the middle of the season when these other teams start having the ability to fund a car on a weekly basis. Also it’s 23XI I’m sure they can go above market price on certain things like charters when it’s a huge selling point to new sponsors. Who knows how long Monster will stick around and it sounds like it would be harder to get a charter every year especially if these cars actually cut costs like intended.

Not one of the biggest stories of NASCAR's 2022 season..THE Story.
In fact it will be the ONLY story.
In my opinion...If NASCAR drops the ball on this car, it's OVER.
    This is NASCAR's last gasp.
Now, if NASCAR stubs its toe and face plants, will that spell the end of stock car racing..I don't believe so.
There is too much to lose.
I am sort of hoping that ISC, the Parent company of NASCAR is forced to take a seat. I think its time for new ideas and new people to run the sport.
A couple years ago there were rumors about that some of the more wealthy teams and drivers were considering a move against the France family. A move to force them out by buying a controlling interest in ISC.
Adding to the possibility that this was more than just rumor was the France family which owns NASCAR deiced to buy all ISC outstanding stock at $45 per share, total cost of the deal $2 billion, and take the company private.
    Anyway....
