Updated/swapped old cars are really fun!!!! 😀 Bonnet wants to say hi, whippers do not want to stay low, crazy dead zone in the wheel and of course good old fashion windows lever! 😉
Driving a car with 400 horses that weights less then a ton is something completly out ot this world, I own a Mark 2 GTI from 86 stock engine 1.8 liter although it has 90 HP its still quick but this, this is something else !
Old cars with a bit too much power are so much more fun then modern cars because it gets a little sketchy under full acceleration, the torque steer, wheel spin love that stuff 😎
Here in Brazil this car is absolutely rare,VW Brasil never produced this model, here we have VW Gol,but this MK1 is awesome, a true sleeper, insane !!!!!
I’m an old Golf man. 1981 MK1 GTi and a 1987 MK2 GTi 16v. So my eyes lit up when this video arrived in my feed. Having watched it start to finish I can confidently say this build has way too much power and is an utter death trap! For a street car I can say from experience that these cars are much much more fun when swapped for a far more modest ~200bhp with a Quaiffe or similar diff and decent track-day oriented suspension. Even 250bhp is too much.A good track-day build is far more rewarding to drive without all the mental wheelspin and torque steer. Still great to see a pocket rocket like this but nah not for me.
If anybody told me that a 1983 Golf MK1 would be faster 100 to 200 km/h than a Porsche 718 Spyder , I would've told them they're crazy... And here we are!
Wow, that was a thrilling ride , 200 hp would have been more than enough for this old heart princess , to keep the fun you must have kept the weight low , Cheers and THANKS FOR THE VIDEO.
These old cars are super scary on high speeds. I once did 150 km/h in my Moms 1991 Nissan Micra and it was so scary. It felt like the whole car is going to fly apart :D In my 2001 Nissan Maxima with V6 high speeds feel like it's floating on air :D At least it's somewhat stable and quiet.

Man you can't imagine how much i dream of owning such a car. I wish i would have the knowledge and the place to get into tuning cars over all. I should have started when i was younger. I mean i am only 29 but to go from zero to this, is a long road. My only chances would be buying one that is already customized, but thats not easy either.
Thinking that bonnets gonna pop eney second. Love the commitment. Had me totally on the edge of my seat. So congratulations max you are officially bonkers 😂😂
How both been onbord with Capri and Escort Mk2 with YB Cosworth with 400hp. In the Capri the seats was making cracking sounds due the g forces and in the Escort it was sideways in all gears, sideways in 3rd gear with 3 people in it. The driver was an lunatic. But that is the most fun I had in cars ever. I have also driven a Mk1 Golf Cab GTI. Was a very fun car to drive. It was slightly modded. The one in the video needs new front suspension and steering parts and hood pins for sure. They never is that sloppy on the front end if everyting is good. Great video! Sketchy old cars is the most fun ones.
Imagine taking delivery of your Brabus GLE 63, you're out the dealer and you're being overtaken by a 30 year old mold green shitbox that cannot keep its wipers or bonnett down at more than 200. LEGENDARY
The bonnet latch where cable comes through can get stiff, when you closed the bonnet latch only half partly locked and didn’t hook right over the catch. Used to happen on 1990s vws.
Love the sleeper look. This is so clean 😮💨🤤😍 i love old Golfs. Never owned a Golf but its a dream of mine. My mum only kwned a Mk5 Golf Diesel 6 speed in Australia
There is a french UA-camr called "Farine de blé" that has a 400hp MK2 golf GTI, but the stock engine has forged internals and a Chinese turbo , and damn it pulls
The car needs hoodpins, aswell as the newer mirrors mostly seen on the Convertable Golf, which are adjustable from the interior (the knob actually is there I see, the Pirelli GTI aswell as some GL models were mounted on the classic Golf Mk1 too).
The bonnet… you should have not been too shy to close it properly, just raise at 25-30 cm and drop ;) I used to have such an opening on my Jag, and it was scary.

I once had a rental Renault Vel Satis V6. At top speed around 235 the bonnet got ripped off a bit from the underlying frame it was glued to and catching so much force from air pressure that it slammed immediately into the windscreen. Glass splinters got accelerated through the impact with so much force that some of them were sticking in my forearms. Wouldn’t it have made sense to do the 100-200 from fifth or sixth gear? Could imagine that would’ve showed an improved time around 8 seconds.
I'm from India, here almost all hatchback cars weigh less than a ton. So, manufacturers put 1 to 1.2 litre engines which produce around 90 - 100 hp, which to be honest is more than sufficient for get going.
It makes so much more sense.
