Previous owner stopped driving in 2014, 9 years ago. I bought it in 2019 and left it here. First start after years of sitting.

I love old classic cars, specially those not available here in India. VW never released early golfs here. We had Suzukis and all. Even BMW entered late with the E90 M3s. I love E36. Sadly import rules are strict enough. I will try to hunt these old cars for myself. Some were imported back in the times. I rarely heard about these Mark 1,2 Golfs!! Nice work by the way mate.
This car might be just an old Golf for you but if someone like me owns this here, oh I'm the unique guy.

Gut das es schon der Golf ab 1982 ist mit den großen Rückleuchten, da ist der Rost nicht ganz so schnell wie davor und er wäre noch zu retten. Der Motor ist ja kein Problem, die ölen zwar aber laufen.

of course it's a mk1 but the very first mk1 has a twin: audi 50. in 80s they facelift it a little with those rear lights a little bigger and maybe some stuff in the interior.

The gear link is always a problem but plenty of parts still available from China.
What was the final step to get it running? Did you feed in/ prime it with oil/ petrol (8 min12 sec)
My next step was going to be cracking the injector lines, but when I saw exhaust smoke at 6:57 , I figured that fuel is getting through. So just continued cranking 8:12 regular diesel clear return line.
I’m still amazed that this leaking pump managed to prime itself and started without priming injectors
Volkswagen. This is a car. It will always start.
Hopefully that will be the case for my 79golf also 😄

I don't think they ever offered the MK1 Golf in North America with the turbo diesel.
That is a shame. Basically the same economy as a non turbo but still can keep up with modern traffic easily
The spark plugs are so so in need of changing as this car has been in the field for some time and you have got an oil leek under neath

That Rabbit should have a 1.5L mechanical diesel engine; what's in it is a much newer 1.9L hydraulic head engine

That's a much later diesel engine for any MK1.... or at least MK3 expansion tank...! It needs the ball joints popping back onto the gear change!
Homemade bracket for that expansion tank is the ugliest thing ever 😁. I’ve never seen a crankcase ventilation system on a diesel mk1 and fuel pump looks like mk3 or passat engine.
I’ll take a look at those ball joints

That engine was swapped with a 1.9TD but what bothers me is... Why was there a spark plug in a diesel's glove box ? 🤔
There is also a carburettor air box in the trunk

@@JunkVWs i recognized the 1.9 TD engine code its the same on my Passat, i got another Passat but its the 1.9 tdi 90 1z , i think the non turbo engine code for 1.9 was '1Y'

Bardzo podoba mi się twój filmik w którym próbujesz odpalić starego Golfa po 9 latach i to jeszcze w Dieslu! Chciałbym cię zapytać jedną rzecz. Kiedy byłem u Babci na wakacjach, wujek kupił Peugeota J5 ze silnikiem Diesla 1.9D. To jest silnik włoski 1.9D od Fiata. Niestety kiedy wracaliśmy do domu, na podwórku doszło do awarii tego silnika i okazało się że poszedł pasek rozrządu który się zerwać podczas pracy silnika. Do tego silnik jeszcze był kręcony, kręcony i kręcony i na następne wakacje jak pojadę do Babci chciałbym tego Peugeota przywrócić do życia aby znów mógł jeździć. Nie wiem czy da się ten silnik jeszcze naprawić podczas kiedy zerwał się pasek rozrządu w tym silniku. Zamówiliśmy nowy pasek rozrządu, ale okazało się że to nie jest ten pasek który powinien być. Przyjechał do nas mechanik, aby mógł wymienić ten pasek rozrządu i stwierdził że to nie jest taki sam pasek jaki powinien być. Mechanik powiedział że tłoki mogły uderzyć w zawory na głowicy co spowodowało że silnik już nie odpali. I stąd ta moja opowieść o tym Peugeocie J5. Dlatego nie wiem czy są jakieś szanse na naprawienie tego silnika. Mógłbyś mi coś zaproponować od czego można by zacząć? Pozdrawiam!
Cześć. Mam też silnik w którym tłoki dotykały zaworów. Chyba podniosę głowicę silnika i zobaczę czy zawory nie są pogięte. Ale możesz po prostu założyć właściwy pasek rozrządu, ustawić prawidłowe znaczniki rozrządu i spróbować go uruchomić
@@JunkVWs Ok dobrze dzięki za radę! Wujek przyjedzie do mnie na święta, więc mu powiem aby nie zezłomował tego Peugeota. Tylko jak mi pisałeś no to wystarczy założyć ten właściwy pasek rozrządu, ale to chyba nie będzie problemem. Problemem będzie to że nie wiadomo w jakiej pozycji był wał korbowy i nie wiem jak będzie można wyregulować ten rozrząd.
@@JunkVWs Ja już też powoli się zastanawiałem nad tym, jak przystąpić do naprawy tego silnika po zderzeniu się tłoków z zaworami. Musiałbym rozebrać głowicę, ocenić samą głowicę, o zaworach nic nie mówię bo na pewno będą wygięte albo złamane nie wiem, no i najważniejsze ocenić wygląd tłoków. Szkoda żeby taki Peugeot trafił na złom. A to jest 1.9 włoski Diesel. Z chęcią mógłbyś nagrać filmik jak podnosisz głowicę silnika to bym sobie zobaczył.
@@PanProksik Nie jestem ekspertem, sprawdzę jak zdjąć głowicę silnika i ją rozebrać. Ale nie prędko, to nie jest priorytet. W internecie powinny być informacje jak prawidłowo ustawić wszystkie znaczniki rozrządu. W moim silniku znak na wale korbowym znajduje się po stronie skrzyni biegów
