If you want to learn more about the SF90 "on further reflection," I wrote 3,300 words about it for Road & Track! www.roadandtrack.com/reviews/a36542245/ferrari-sf90-drive-review/
At $700k you'd think the whole "It's a hybrid so we have to do a future interface" thing would be overridden by an engineer going "Yeah this is a car that the driver shouldn't have to think about what button they just touched"
I remember when Zack first started doing one takes, lots of people were in the comments expressing their concerns with seeing a new person on this channel. Zack is doing an absolute killer job with these reviews now!!!
I think we need to give a bit more credit to that Civic driver who recognized that someone was trying to have some fun on the backroads and pulled over
I feel like Zack is choosing his words carefully in the presence of the Ferrari chaperone. Like he’s an art critic at a Korean dictator’s personal gallery.
I always figured the average buyer for these cars can afford them about as well as an average person affords an average price new car (which is to say not very well at all), except the Ferrari buyer sells it long before it's paid off so he never really buys it. And he probably gets back what it was worth new too. So realistically the Ferrari dude could only "reasonably" afford to pay off maybe a $150,000 car or something but he's able to stretch and get his hands on something quite a bit past his means like most people.
If you can buy this car its no longer how much per year you make its just net worth. You’ve either sold a company or have crazy high income from entertainment or high level law or medicine
Enough where spending $700k doesn’t make a dent. Price doesn’t matter to those that can buy this car. Nobody that buys this car has to think about what they need to do in order to afford it.
Maybe a good review, but the energy went from way up here to a doug demuro snooze fest. I think it would've worked better as a separate video. I found myself skipping forward a lot. And I like Zack's POV and commentary sometimes, especially when Matt and him are together.
You’re right about diminishing returns for regular production run cars. What my experience tells me from owning cars from a 370z to C7 corvette to a pdk 911s to v10 R8 is that faster is not the same as more fun. If you’re driving a Miata on a mountain road, it is 100% fun and 0% fear. You can ring it out to it’s 100% capacity and leaves you longing for more, because it is not enough power. When you get to a corvette or 911S, it is 80% fun and 20% fear. When you get to the R8 it is 50% fun and 50% fear. I would imagine that the SF90 is like 30% fun and 70% fear. That would be like sky-diving daily. Your brain tells you it is too much risk for how much fun you are having, my current ride is a 981 Cayman S, the previous generation 6 cylinder with old school 6 speed transmission. It is 90% fun with a 10% touch of fear.it is the most “fun” car I’ve ever had. You can wring it out to 100% without it killing you. It is more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.
As a fan, as a car enthusiast, and as a cyclist, I thank you tremendously for your courtesy to bicyclists! I wish everyone wanted to avoid a manslaughter charge as badly as you.

986hp brand new Ferrari!!!!!! Boy was I excited to test drive it in April🤩 Never have I been so disappointed by driving a brand new car. First there is no luggage room when I asked the salesman if I could place my winter jacket in the frunk, half of which were occupied by electric charging cables. After putting my duffel coat there, it literally was only space left for 2-3 cartons of milk left. I mean, if I was crazy enough to buy this car, I’d like to be able to take my wife on a hotel weekend getaway without having the luggage being transported in another vehicle... Inside the annoyingly shiny and hard faced carbon coated cockpit, I had to choose between leg room or a comfortable angle on my back rest while in the passenger seat. After fiddling with the idiotic touch screen controls on a tiny dark screen for a few minutes, I settled on a compromise not giving me the necessary leg room or a comfortable seating position for my back. And I’m only 5"9inches tall. Behind the wheel the space is a little better, but the flimsy sun visors were a laugh. After putting in race and having a go behind the wheel of this almost 1000hp monster, which is FAST, brakes phenomenally and have a surgical steering precision, I found to my immens surprise and disbelief he car is really laggy and power is nowhere near instantaneously as in the 992TurboS we drove to the venue in. It’s just unbelievable that the 3 electric motors aren’t able to fill in the gaps of torque on the turbo V8. In normal everything is docile and calm enough, but when you put the foot down, car is jerky, not confidence inspiring and not very fun to drive at all. Lastly the ground clearance meant we scraped the expensive carbon fiber nose on every little undulation on the B-roads we drove, even when maintaining speed limits, not to mention in the city cobblestone... Nose lift??? The Porsche just powered through like a champion in the same environment where the double-the-price Ferrari had to be treated like a porcelain doll. It just hilarious IRL conditions. If it only had been fun to drive... Looks gorgeous though😍
TST is such a valuable resource of information on how a car actually drives. Matt's not a racecar driver but he is pretty good for an enthusiast and he knows these roads so well. It's always a great test of the car's capabilities in the real world, and with the same setting you can compare his impressions and the way the car handles the road pretty seamlessly from one car to another.
Man is it me or does it look a lot like a 90’s Camero or the new vet? Not a fan of the styling Ferrari is putting out the last few years except the Pista.
I always felt that the 488 is the most beautiful modern Ferrari, and that’s not a Pininfarina design. I also really like the 812 and the GTC4 Lusso. Of course this is all just a matter of preference, so debating is pointless.
matters very little. somebody that buys and services a vehicle like this is gonna be well aware that any service visit is gonna be a somewhat extended stay. there is zero reason for this car to be conventionally easy to work on.
Ferrari gives you 7 years of service for free on any of their new cars. So as an owner you don't really have to care about how much work it is to change the spark plugs or oil
@@DenisKudlik I’ve always heard this, is it really true? 7 years free service? Let’s say I owned a 2016 488 gtb, if I took it in for ANY service, it would be free? Any service at all??
Matt, serious question for you. Would you rather own this or a manual F355? I feel like most people are too caught up with numbers (lap time, 0-60, etc.) and trying to make more power to remember what is important in a drivers car, the experience. The sound of an N/A engine, the clink-clink of a gated manual, heel-toe-ing, taking it to redline without doing 10x the speed limit, etc. Idk, personally this car just doesn't do it for me.
If I had enough to buy this, I would buy a road legal 355 challenge and beat the ever loving balls off it, and have a second powertrain on a stand to just swap in when it was time for service.
The design does feel like a missed opportunity... Ferrari got the engine right here, but if they evolved the design of the LaFerrari this would've been an absolute classic (It probably will still be a classic). It just could've been so much better. For $500k this is probably one of the best value cars, but I'd just get a 765lt and a Pista and call it a day.

Ugly, too heavy, too many haptic buttons, like a 918 but uglier, worse sounding, too much power and too fast for the road, cheaper and 8 years too late.

You can tell that McLaren has really had an impact on how Ferrari has done things since the 458/12C days. Normally they wouldn't chase numbers over the intangibles but with the SF90 it seems to be a different story. If you're gonna chase McLaren then at least do what McLaren's done right though; a proper steering wheel and a hydraulic rack.
Having even a small hybrid system is super awesome for people like me who like to sneak out for night drives and dont want to wake everyone up, great feature to have
High performance hybrid power plants are the future IMHO. The complete shift to full electric power plants could fail miserably if the charging infrastructure doesn’t experience rapid growth, reliability and increased charging speed .
Well, one way or the other fossil fuels are being used up and won’t be around in 50 years so we have to figure out the replacement or you better get used to walking.
Zack comparing it to an alien craft/spaceship makes it sound very interesting driving experience! Thanks for the video with some nice external shots and some rolling shots.
The side view is amazing @3:48, but I simply can't get the old GM Camero / Transam look that the beak and headlights convey out of my minds-eye, at this point. No doubt, this is an incredible car. It needs to be at that price point. Oh, Zack. Democratizes hybrid cars? :D
I'd love a review between this and the 765LT. 0-60 and 1/4 mile are similar, and although the 765 is down on power, it's curb weight is almost 700 lb less. Which is the better overall driver's car? 🤔
@@abelluque8611 SF90 weighs similar to a 330i, or even slightly less than a 330i or C8 at a lil under 3600lbs. Which is actually quite light for a 1000hp hybrid supercar. I do still prefer the 765 LT as my ultimate supercar tho
@@abelluque8611 just take a look at the Acura NSX type S weighs almost 3,900 lbs with about half the HP of the SF90. Or the 918 Spyder is over 3,700 lb. And if you go full electric hypercars then you're going way over 4,000 lbs and even 5,000, so a 1,000 HP Ferrari hybrid that has a similar curb weight to a modern golf isn't too bad in my opinion.
Excellent video as always... But just a friendly suggestion, you could get rid of a lot of dash reflections if you had a dialed-in polarizer on your camera.
I wholeheartedly agree. Katie the mother of two doesnt want to go 0 to 60 in under 6 seconds. Save that for the hot hatches and rally homologations, not the ford edges.
I always enjoy the fact that Matt always checks for traffic approaching from behind before flipping Z B... like anyone else up there is trying that hard to go to jail!
The walk around on the outside at around 4mins 10 proper tripped me out with the truck facing wrong way driving down the road until realised it was edited to be reverse 😂
when you see how low in the engine bay they mounted the motor you can’t help but look under the car to see if part of the engine is pushing into the pavement. I still don’t understand how they managed this, not to mention putting all the hybrid bits that don’t do well with heat in the same compartment.
ikr...? looks a hell of lot lower than just 15mm...? looks HALF A FOOT. must be an optical illusion from the added kit and flattened bodywork sitting above it.
14:53 surely you meant 15 centimeters lower? 15 millimeters is about half an inch and I doubt that moving the engine that little would make a discernable difference
I don't care what anyone says, i don't like the way the front of this car looks. Ferrari haven't been able to top the looks of the 458 Italia since it came out.

If you're gonna chase McLaren then at least do what McLaren's done right though; a proper steering wheel and a hydraulic rack.
Matt’s giggling at the end of this video tells you all you need to know about this car.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Having even a small hybrid system is super awesome for people like me who like to sneak out for night drives and dont want to wake everyone up, great feature to have
Shame the looks went backwards after the 458. I compare every new one to it, and 458 is just nicer then all of these.
Ferrari needs to hire back pininfarina ASAP
NO is not! The cars are getting better and better and more and more gorgeous!!
@@MarcSob22 Only for those with a lack of sight.
@@HexaSquirrel 🤣🤣🤣💯💯💯
F8 and 488 both look really good, not better than the 458 but it’s close
High performance hybrid power plants are the future IMHO. The complete shift to full electric power plants could fail miserably if the charging infrastructure doesn’t experience rapid growth, reliability and increased charging speed .
Well, one way or the other fossil fuels are being used up and won’t be around in 50 years so we have to figure out the replacement or you better get used to walking.
@@joeracer302 lol chill guys, u n ur kids will have plenty gas. if we truly want to save gas, passenger planes n military behemoths sud be garaged.
Been waiting for this one! Also they spec out surprisingly affordable for what it is.
I think that the one who doesn't weight as much as a tank is the better driver's car
I think it is time for the entire automotive industry to have a gentlemen's agreement like the Japanese did back in the 90s.
7:04 that’s a fast looking seagull 👀
definitely some of the best car content on show again by the smoking tire. They never disappoint.
The walk around on the outside at around 4mins 10 proper tripped me out with the truck facing wrong way driving down the road until realised it was edited to be reverse 😂
Bad Ass looking Whip . Rims gotta go but Suh-wheeet looking ride
when you see how low in the engine bay they mounted the motor you can’t help but look under the car to see if part of the engine is pushing into the pavement.
@@phillyphil1513 I think the American meant centimeters, but doesn't know metric system
Was out driving and saw some other journalist driving this very car on Angeles Crest. Car is bananas fast. Was spinning tires at 50 MPH
Guarantee it's useable in any rural area. I can think of several 1-2 miles straight roads with no cops and no traffic off the top of my head
amazing car and i know i wont ever own one but the touch buttons is an auto 0/10 for me. Worst idea ever.
hey...you will own one if you want. believe in it
Now I want a more affordable mini SF90, using the 2.9l V6 from the Alfa Guilia with 200hp electric motors on front wheels
For like 700combined horses.
Are you a psychic?
This is so expensive that Matt had to put FIVE commercial breaks in this vid. Also, I'm glad you know about bamboo in the bedroom.
5:13 - Matt, ya got a spit take with that ED comment 😂
Really awesome on Ferrari making a value engineered exotic. Everyone else without the same pedigree wants $1M+ for similar performance.
Pretty, pretty, pretty good. Thank you Larry David!
Jail time, I love it.. This is truly my next car, have to liquidate a couple cars but doable. Thanks for the great content.
I come to these videos for the launch control stay for the turning radius check.
Can't figure out where this sits in Ferrari hierarchy. Is it an F8 Tributo successor? Special run? Diet La Ferrari?
Below the laferrari and above the 812, don’t know why they did it like that but that’s how it is
Basically 1000hp, awd, 0-60 in 2.5 sec.....nothing "Diet" about it🤣
It’s in its own category, but sits just below limited production runs like LaFerrari.
It's a new category , the LaFerrari successor came out by the end of next year and the F8 successor cames out by the end of this year
4:48 the walk around is backwards? Look at the truck haha
"There's no public road anywhere where this is usable"
Autobhan laughing in the background
14:53 surely you meant 15 centimeters lower? 15 millimeters is about half an inch and I doubt that moving the engine that little would make a discernable difference
15 mm is huge at engineering
..."have to let Zach"...heartwarming...
damn that thing rips.
I don't care what anyone says, i don't like the way the front of this car looks. Ferrari haven't been able to top the looks of the 458 Italia since it came out.
The pista 😔
Lol, I just wrote the same thing, 458 was beautiful, these are just getting uglier
@@Meowhsss So true.
Insane Ferrari review, with added Larry David reference? Hell yeah!
6:35 Definition of "brace yourself", objects in window became a blur
4:48 the video is in reverse lol that truck tripped me out.
That guy on the bike must be loving his ride that day
Props to the cameras the POV are awesome!!!!!!!!
