Riverset Rye Single Barrel Unfiltered Barrel Proof is probably my favorite rye. At the $37 that I paid for a couple bottles, it is undoubtably my best value rye.
From what I can find, it is a 95/5 rye and it is distilled in Tennessee, but probably a rye they source from elsewhere in Tennessee and then bottled by BR Distilling (similar to their sourced Blue Note Juke Joint Uncut).
It’s amazing to me that this is a 95% rye mash bill. It definitely tastes like a rye with some heavy herbal and grassy notes, but it doesn’t seem overly rye-spicy to me, like I might expect from a 95% rye. It’s got terrific caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and strawberry/cherry.
If you see a store pick of the high-proof in the $40’s or less … grab it!
Those Riverset barrel proofs are sourced George Dickel rye and absolutely fantastic!
I love that so many ryes have corn and most bourbons have rye. It's like meeting a bunch of different members of the same family all with their own personalities and quirks.

I mentioned Riverset Rye in some of y’all past videos. The first one I had were juicy fruit notes. They are the same company that’s does the blue note juke joint.

I just watched this review last night, then stumbled upon a Riverset rye single barrel store pick today for $44… just had my first pour and wow! I’m usually a Pikesville lover, but I might like this even better. Gonna have to go back for more… but I wouldn’t have known to even try it without your review, so thank you! Cheers 🥂

I get an Earth note, more often in scotch than American whiskeys, that I describe as loamy and organic. Like an Iowa soil. It smells almost green. Then there is a Earth note that smells like road side trucks top southern California dirt, dusty and sterile.

Have heard of Riverset, but not see any around my area. Surprised to see Josh give a rye such a big score so that must be saying a lot. Have to keep it on my radar. Did recently pick up the Chattanooga 99 Rye on a short weekend trip. That one blew my mind. So much more than I expected from it. Especially @ $40 for our area. Wonder if you've tried that one and had any thoughts? Cheers!
Great question. We’ve not tried the Chattanooga 99 Rye which is definitely an oversight on our part. We’ll try to track down a sample and get it into our First Sip pool.

So you have a first sip sample pool and the international sample pool...what other sample pools do you have? One part of your videos I enjoy is when you talk about a bottle I have so I can relate better. I found Pikesville Rye a couple of weeks ago and the age statement is "This whiskey is aged at least 6 years." Haven't seen Riverset, actually this is the first time I've heard of it and after looking at their Web site I now know why - closest state it's available is NY.
The First Sip pool, the Wildcard Wednesday pool of international sipping spirits, and the head-to-head pool. We’re considering a fourth that includes “classic” pours of mostly readily available products that we have had before, or perhaps incorporating some on those types of pours into our First Sip pool if it’s been several years since we’ve tried them.
Well I'll look for a Riverset Rye single barrel pick and hoping it is as good as the one here.

I had to get a store pick after seeing this video! And damn for $39 my bottle is delicious. A cinnamon bomb on the neck pour at 116.9%

Barrels and Brews but it’s from a while back. Unfortunately long gone but Riverset is on our radar now.
I'm still somewhat newish to the channel but from I've seen so far can't remember seeing a 9 score. Is that your highest you've given?
On certain days when things hit just right, a few pours like Rare Breed, Knob Creek SiB, and Old Overholt 114 rye have gotten up there. Takes a very good pour + big value to pull it off.

Never heard of this brand. Looks like its not available locally here in the Chicago area.
Looks like Binny's had the regular bottling which is 3 years old but not the single barrel cask strength. But even that one is out of stock except for the store in Champaign.
