Tried the bourbon a couple of weeks ago - really hit a lot of the profile notes I look for in bourbon - and for $57 (at my local bottle shop)? I grabbed another bottle ASAP. Going to get another very soon. I think this is going to be very highly sought after if the supply starts to dwindle. Based on today's pricing, this is one of those "no guilt" drinkers I can reach for without hesitation. As far as I'm concerned,, Barrell hit it out of the park with this one.
I also have a marketing/advertising degree and background. And I absolutely love reading how Barrell describes their blends. It’s beautifully hilarious. But… I happen to enjoy most of their products- so I cut them some slack.
Your reactions to the marketing fluff couldn’t have been more perfect. 😂😂 For the money and proof we’ll definitely be on the lookout for these in our market. Love Barrell’s products a ton. Great video Jason!
Stellum bourbon is easily top 3 in my relatively modest whiskey collection. Even though I can't get it in the stores in Ohio, it's definitely one I'll be making sure has a permanent spot in my collection. Great review as always, Jason. Cheers!

Havent cracked it open as yet but if you are in NH and want to grab it from the state store you might want to act quick. They apparently arent going to keep it on the shelf, that said its on sale for $38, not bad for a cask strength bottle. The ad copy write up is hysterical and you nailed em on that. Good review, keep up the good work.

Will def pick these up when I see them despite the ridiculous marketing double speak. I think the bottle is pretty boring but you don't drink the bottle or label. I've had quite a few Barrell batches and single barrel's and they never disappoint.
This stuff is stellar. Absolutely amazing taste on the rye, and it hits hard at 116 ABV making it a great value. I'm a long-time Templeton fanboy but this might replace it for me.

Great suggestion to blend the blends. I’ll try it. Otherwise, I like both of these. I went through my collection to try similar bottles in proof and price but did not find any to top the Stellum. Rare Breed bourbon seems competitive but the others did not hold up. Including 1792 full proof, old scout barrel select, jepson single barrel. Tried Wild Turkey 101 just for comparison. I like the barrel options but think the stellum offers a solid consistency. I look at them as the Johnnie walker green label of bourbon and rye.
I'm in science communications, but my fallback is booze (wine, whiskey) marketing. I have adjectives. Your reaction to the Stellum narrative ... priceless! But the like was for the excellent review, as always. Hope to check out the rye soon.
Wish they got rid of the Tennessee juice, had some dickle 15 and you’re right that vitamin taste is so gross. Looking forward to the single barrel version on this just for that reason. Overall stellum is decent for the price I think, and agree def glad mgp has the bulk of the blend.
interesting... granted the bardstown discovery series is triple the price and older.. but curious how it matches up.. realistically matching it up with fusion might be more fair.. great blenders regardless
Smoke wagon too.. plenty of good stuff to compare it is fierce competition.. this is against rare breed and 1920 in pricing and proof and pikesville for the rye... I would have thought given barrels other price points they would have upped it above those to avoid those hitters
Stellum to me tastes like a Barrel product in that you get so many marriages of notes that shift in your palate as it goes down. I don't know why you didn't get the heavy smarties Dickel profile that I got. It has an amazing mouthfeel and a fantastic long trailing finish that Barrel excels in. You can see for $20-30 more you should pick up a Barrel release because the quality is there release after release. This bourbon is so smooth at the high ABV its crazy.. like nuts.. When you add water it really opens up the bouquet and really brings the creamy mouthfeel out. Now here me out here .. if you add ice into a cocktail shaker and then add your pour into it and stir for 10-15 seconds.. get it nice and cold.. and then strain and drink.. oh man.. is it good.. for the price point.. it's excellent..and as it warms the flavors just are so dense.. damn... well after drinking some more for this comment I guess I'm going to Potomac Wine and Spirits in Georgetown to get me some more (they also have great store picks of all things bourbon)
I wonder if you'd still get all of the black licorice on the rye if you had it before the bourbon on a fresh palate, I got a lot more citrus/orange when I opened my bottle and had it as my first pour

Thanks, would love to sample these. Don't love the packaging. Something about narrow, wine style bottles for bourbon turns me off. I much prefer short and fat : )
