People need to realize there is a huge difference between the electricity bending we see in Kora and the lightning bending we see in the original series. The "lightning benders" like Mako can produce the force of mediocre power line accidents. Their electricity hurts and maims but many people get hit by "lightning bending" in that series and survive. The true lightning bending in the original series generates the same force as storm clouds in the sky. It isn't like a power line accident that could be survivable, it is equivalent to being struck by a powerful lightning bolt in the thunder storm. The original series implies that it is pretty much lethal every time and there are only two instances we see characters get hit successfully. Azula strikes Aang at Ba Sing Se, and this does kill him. Katara plus spirit water brought him back but he did die from that singular lightning strike. The only other time is during the last Agni Kai when Azula aimed at Katara, but Zuko blocked it. Zuko performed the redirection technique but was so rushed by the need to dive in front of Katara, that he didn't manage to pull it off entirely and even with a semi-successful redirection, it still nearly killed him. I'm passionate about this difference due to the way Iron explains what is required when he is teaching Zuko for the first time. There is no way you'd have THAT MANY fire benders with THAT LEVEL of emotional and spiritual capability all working in a factory. Electricity bending is not the same thing.
While you make a lot of good points, I would argue that over time it makes sense you would see techniques that were once considered rare and hard, such as lightning-bending, become more commonplace as the knowledge of the techniques are refined and become more widespread, with metal-bending being a clear example of this. Also, the lightning generated by Mako was indeed lethal for Ming-Hua. I think something of tiers of the technique are utilized; electricity can be generated quickly whilst stronger lightning-bolt like strikes require more set-up.
2nd to Roku. I was surprised he wasn’t listed. I know he was an Avatar but just like Ang is still an airbender, hence the name “the last airbender” Roku is still a firebender. And the most powerful one at that!

@@Antbone-rx2el I think the only reason Aang was added there was because due to the extinction of the airbenders due to Sozin there really aren't a lot of airbenders to talk about in ATLA or even Korra (well ones we have more directly seen or know about) thus there's a bit more wiggle room in that regard. Also though Aang is the Avatar his preferred element is Air and that actually isn't the case with all Avatars (korra's preffered element for example is more fire then water believe it or not).
Lava is not so hot... Well, depend of what lava you talking, but it need hudge pressures to be really hot. The temperature of a bolt lightning is three time higher 🙄 Electricity (modern "lightning bending" from Korra's time) is far weaker of course. And far colder.

Most of the more powerful benders are on the list, but I would make some changes: 1. Remove Zhao ENTIERLY, seriously, he was an awful fire bender, Aang defeated him by just playing a little bit around and watching himself destroy his own ships. 2. Put Sozin on no.1, remember that he fought shoulder by shoulder together with avatar Roku against a whole volcano, without the comet, DURING THE NIGHT, he also was better then avatar Roku at fire bending from the start till the end, and avatar Roku could ONLY fight him using the avatar state. From here on, next would be Iroh, Ozai, Jeon Jeong, and then Azula followed by Zuko, for the other spots I don't really think the order matter. Of course, you can always put Roku on the list, but in general I find that putting Avatars on the list is not that informative or fair, they will always be one of the strongest benders, in each of the 4 elements in the whole world, in every life.
Ridiculously dumb head canon because the creators themselves said Ozai is the strongest Firebender in TLA followed closely by Uncle Iroh (who was a pacifist and not necessarily in fighting shape most of the show). We get it. You love Sozin and are on your knees for him but don't twist facts. He may have beaten Roku as kids but he had to try sneaking him when they were adults and missed/failed. Roku didn't even need the avatar state to immobilize Sozin. He did it as a show of force/power, not because he needed it. You kids these days are so dumb. 😭
I think Jeong Jeong should be higher than Azula and Zuko. He is so underrated. He wiser and more experienced. He didn't show all his abilities because he thinks that fire bending is too dangerous. But we saw some of his feats. His fire power is bigger than Ozai's, Azula's and Zuko's one. And his fire shield is perfect. With his exp, wisdom, strategies and talent his is definetly the closest to Iroh's level.

The creators did confirm that Ozai was the greatest fire bender in the world. But i think iroh would beat ozai because of lightning redirecting. And iroh could fight without fire bending you see him quickly block zhao fire when zhao was attacking zuko from behind. and iroh defeated the earthbenders who took him as prisoner in book 1 with no fire bending.

It’s hard for me to believe that Ozai was the strongest. Even before the avatar state, Aang did pretty well against him, while Ozai was supercharged by the comet.

Thank you for being the only non bias comment here... Ozai literally IS the most powerful firebender. Everyone acts like because Iroh is wise. Therefore, he's better, but that's not how it works. The dude had perfect controlled flight, could dual generate lightning (in a fraction of the time either Azula or Iroh could), and was able to bend fire with minimal martial movement.

@norsefaka6679 Exactly! Plus, Ozai is wicked fast with his lightning generation (x2), and we've never ever actually seen Iroh redirect it... Everyone brings it up like it's a trump card, but the truth is we don't know if Iroh would actually be fast enough to "catch" it and redirect it. We saw him do it with Azula, which she takes longer to generate than Ozai, and she didn't see Iroh coming. So I feel like Ozai has a better chance of hitting an older Iroh as opposed to a youthful Zuko. I think the biggest difference, besides the overall power and lethal skill of Ozai, is that Ozai would gleefully kill his older brother. And with no hesitation or internal conflict (which is crucial to firebenders and especially lightning). I don't think Iroh could ever escape the fact that Oazi is his baby brother, and he'd be conflicted, fighting defensively, and not be pushing himself for the kill. In all things being equal fair fight and level headedness, I still think Ozai would win (but barely). But we need to take into account their character. Iroh is a good man who values the life of his evil brother, putting him at a moral and firebending disadvantage. Ozai has no issue with it, is completely internally calm, and at peace with his decision. Making him stronger, more lethal, and more ready for a fight.

Avatar Extras for Sozin's Comet says Ozai is the strongest firebender during the show. And I think during show, the Top 5 firebenders are Ozai, Iroh, Azula, Jeong Jeong and Zuko, with Jeong Jeong and Azula fighting for the third spot. However, if we take the entire franchise into account, I think it is Azula, Zuko, Ozai, Iroh, and Jeong Jeong. Azula eventually learns how to completely modulate the strength of her lightning (she can make zaps, instant lightning, and quick-charge lightning), ball lightning, area of effect lightning, control the direction of her lighting after firing it, faster fire jets, and smokebending. Moreover, not is it implied, and sometimes outright stated, in S&S and her solo comic she is holding back, it is also implied she can dual wield two of her smoke, fire, and lightningbending. Meanwhile, Zuko has imo the best fire redirection feat in the franchise that isn't done by an Avatar, producing dragon fire in process, and can fire jet in the South Pole at night while holding a grown man (Kuei) with both hands.
@@tim8801 Imo, the hard thing about Jeong Jeong is that since he is a Grand Lotus of the White Lotus, not only should he have been able to learn about the other bending elements like Zuko and Iroh were, but also the Royal Family's techniques, including lightning redirection and generation, from Iroh as well. So, considering even Azula with her superior talent is still weaker than Ozai and Iroh due to age, Jeong Jeong should be stronger than Zuko for the same reasons. But we haven't gotten any confirmation about the scope of Jeong Jeong's abilities yet, and so why I just typed out is just headcanon for now.
@@NoName-tu6qi although zoku is weaker than azula he isn’t far off from her. We see after the learned from the sun warriors his fire ending was at his peak in the show and he went from getting embarrassed from azula to putting up really good matches, the boiling rock he had the upper hand with sokka, the blimp fight although was short ended in a stalemate and he was on a winning pace in the agni Kai, although azula was certainly weaker during that time. One thing we do know about jeong jeong is that he was getting old and up until he met Ang zhao said he retired from fighting so he may have regressed. In terms of lightning generation and redirection it’s not unreasonable to assume he can generate lightning but I don’t he could, and as for redirection he could learn it but iroh only invented it in book 2 and wasn’t in much contact with people and probably only met with jeong sometime after the eclispe which was like a week or so from the comet where we see him again.
I think we may have underestimated Jongjong a bit. The dude does waterbending forms, and air bending forms incorporated in his bending as well. That’s why his bending stands out.
Honestly, I know that the fire nation made fire benders look like very bad destructive people, but that doesn't mean that fire is the same as its bender. Especially given the fact that their reputation was destroyed by force and orders from a firelord who was completly mental for starting a war. Just like the dragons taught Zuko and Aang, Firebending isn't about power and destruction, it's about energy. The very same energy you have inside you that keeps you warm and happy inside. It's just like the fire we use today. Yes, if we're not carefull, fire can be a problem. But if we're just focused, precautiousnand smart, it can be used safely through cooking, light and warmth. Stuff we need in life to survive. And when used right like Zuko and his last fight with Azula, or Iroh taking back Ba Sing Se, Fire can indeed be extremly cool and awesome to watch!😁
I actually think the order should be Sozin, Iroh, Ozai, Azula and Zuko. Even though we didn't get to watch enough of Sozin's storyline, the fact that the comet was named after him should tell us a lot more about his powers. Sozin is the best
For me Azula is n1 she can literally make blue fire that’s about 10 times hotter and stronger than normal fire also she learned how to redirect lightning from only seeing Zuko do it on her
How is Roku not on here? He can freaking LAVA BEND. He trounced an older, more skilled Sozin, and he helped save his island from a volcano, only succumbing to the toxic fumes after Sozin turned his back on Roku. The fact that he was the one who chose to guide Aang the most also shows he has a vast knowledge of bending and the role of Avatar. He also manifested at the equinox and both melted ONLY the chains holding Zuko, team Avatar, and the one loyal fire sage as well as literally destroyed the entire fire temple in a single move. He deserved to be on this list.

i think iroh is actually the strongest, not only do we know he has great firebending skill and combat (even more so after his prison break), the crucial part is that he knows the true source of firebending
I believe the rankings are based on screen time of the characters, because no way general Iroh is 12th I mean he used fire bending to fly, generates lightning, he's also of a royal bloodline, If you check properly to you'll see how the royal family of the fire nation pick their spouses

Strongly disagree with some of this. 1. Zuko was beating Azula in their final fight you even showed a clip of said fight, he got taken out saving Katara from a lighting bolt but he was winning up to that point so I think Zuko is better than Azula 2. Azula doesn't really fly more like boost herself to a wall and super jumps, her blue fire never really matters, it just looks cool it gets deflected and overpowered by Zuko's fire more than once long story short, shes overrated by fans imo, even katara kicks her ass pretty easily. 3. Azula’s blue fire does matter. It’s been stated by the official creators that it’s stronger and hotter. She understands her element perfectly and is a true prodigy. She took over Ba sing se on her own, destroyed the Avatar 4 times. She claps Katara with ease if she’s in the right mental state. Azula is the strongest fire bender of all time
Ozai is a top firebender for sure, but Aang didnt need the avatar state to defeat him, as an airbender Avatar Aang uses a defensive fighting style. Aang could've defeated Ozai when he deflected the lightening, and Aang wasnt in the avatar state when he trapped him and took his powers. Plus Ozai was using the power of Sozin's comet.

Azula should be #1. I’m not a fan of her personally, but she’s obsessed with perfection and is the only bender in both series to bend blue fire, including all incarnations of avatars. When you look at her perfectionism and this unique bending, it’s clear that she was written to be the best fire bender in existence. She’s shown to have mastered fire bending beyond what any avatar has (who is supposed to be the master of all elements.) Her mastery of fire is as close to perfect as it can be, thus making her the most powerful fire bender.
Also in the comics, she taught HERSELF how to redirect lightning. She also proceeded to make literal balls of lightning that are impossible to redirect. She knew the fire element better than anyone, a true prodigy

Iroh's an absolute beast, but the man himself is not confident in his odds against Ozai. While I do think he'd have a shot, the creators themselves have confirmed that Ozai is #1 in raw power. Azula at #3 seems right to me though (assuming we dont put Sozin there, but we just don't know enough about him.) She's still a child. Given time I think she'd have surpassed both Iroh and Ozai, but she has far less experience.
Ozai and Sozin are only really seen fighting during Sozin's comet, so I feel like we should take the power they show with a grain of salt, considering we haven't seen them fight without the comet to strengthen them
bro you saw both of them fighting without any comet dont lie, In Sozin case in epsiode about rokus past, as Roku confronted Sozin in his palace he unleashed such a big as flame you only saw that huge as flame at the end of the season powered by the comet, but he wasnt in that scene. We don’t see iroh a fight in the liberation of ba sing sae but the palace was the most heavily captured area when the fire nation invaded we see a ton of tanks drive in even if just a small amount was left iroh defeated them all and liberated the place single handedly

Yes! i'm not only suggesting, i'm saying it. Mako single-handedly took out a Mecha suit that was heavily fortified with spiritual energy, and as my subscriber have already said, was able to still bend lightening despite being under the influence of Amon's bloodbending. Mind you, Amon is considered one of the most powerful waterbenders in history. If you watched the video, you'd see Mako took out a member of the red lotus, who according to Lord Zuko, is formidable enough to take down the whole world. I mean i could go on.

Ozai defneitly should be under his children. The only reason he was able to keep up with Aang was because of the power from the comet, without it he would have lost quickly. He wasn't a good strategist like Azula, he wasn't adaptable like Zuko, and he wasn't disciplined like Iroh. I mean, Zuko could have straight up killed him during the Day of the Black Sun, and there was nothing he could've done about it. Ozai should not be in second place.

If you mentioned Sozin, then Azulon should be on the list too. Ozai called Azula a prodigy, just like her grandfather Azulon. So we can guess that Azulon was a great firebender. At the age of 95 he punished Ozai. I believe Azula had potential to become the greatest firebender ever but she's gone crazy, and Azulon was the man. Even better than Ozai and Iroh.
This ranking is so inaccurate. It looks like it’s based off of accomplishments instead of individual ability. General Iroh ( Izumi’s son) is easily better than most of the other benders you mentioned. Upon seeing some of them I couldn’t believe it. Like zhao who can’t even control his fire, or Mako who yes is really good, and indeed a prodigy, but come on, Iroh takes down armies single handedly

Zuko performed the redirection technique but was so rushed by the need to dive in front of Katara, that he didn't manage to pull it off entirely and even with a semi-successful redirection, it still nearly killed him. I'm passionate about this difference due to the way Iron explains what is required when he is teaching Zuko for the first time. There is no way you'd have THAT MANY fire benders with THAT LEVEL of emotional and spiritual capability all working in a factory. Electricity bending is not the same thing.

Also, the lightning bolt redirected by Aang in the fight against Ozai during the comet is probably the strongest lightning bolt ever produced.

While you make a lot of good points, I would argue that over time it makes sense you would see techniques that were once considered rare and hard, such as lightning-bending, become more commonplace as the knowledge of the techniques are refined and become more widespread, with metal-bending being a clear example of this. Also, the lightning generated by Mako was indeed lethal for Ming-Hua. I think something of tiers of the technique are utilized; electricity can be generated quickly whilst stronger lightning-bolt like strikes require more set-up.
Iroh is the greatest fire bender
2nd to Roku. I was surprised he wasn’t listed. I know he was an Avatar but just like Ang is still an airbender, hence the name “the last airbender” Roku is still a firebender. And the most powerful one at that!

@@Antbone-rx2el I think the only reason Aang was added there was because due to the extinction of the airbenders due to Sozin there really aren't a lot of airbenders to talk about in ATLA or even Korra (well ones we have more directly seen or know about) thus there's a bit more wiggle room in that regard. Also though Aang is the Avatar his preferred element is Air and that actually isn't the case with all Avatars (korra's preffered element for example is more fire then water believe it or not).

Most of the more powerful benders are on the list, but I would make some changes:
1. Remove Zhao ENTIERLY, seriously, he was an awful fire bender, Aang defeated him by just playing a little bit around and watching himself destroy his own ships.
2. Put Sozin on no.1, remember that he fought shoulder by shoulder together with avatar Roku against a whole volcano, without the comet, DURING THE NIGHT, he also was better then avatar Roku at fire bending from the start till the end, and avatar Roku could ONLY fight him using the avatar state.
From here on, next would be Iroh, Ozai, Jeon Jeong, and then Azula followed by Zuko, for the other spots I don't really think the order matter.
Of course, you can always put Roku on the list, but in general I find that putting Avatars on the list is not that informative or fair, they will always be one of the strongest benders, in each of the 4 elements in the whole world, in every life.

I think Jeong Jeong should be higher than Azula and Zuko. He is so underrated. He wiser and more experienced. He didn't show all his abilities because he thinks that fire bending is too dangerous. But we saw some of his feats. His fire power is bigger than Ozai's, Azula's and Zuko's one. And his fire shield is perfect. With his exp, wisdom, strategies and talent his is definetly the closest to Iroh's level.
I have him higher than Azula, but slightly below Zuko. Though I agree with what you said, his fire power and control is insane!

The creators did confirm that Ozai was the greatest fire bender in the world. But i think iroh would beat ozai because of lightning redirecting. And iroh could fight without fire bending you see him quickly block zhao fire when zhao was attacking zuko from behind. and iroh defeated the earthbenders who took him as prisoner in book 1 with no fire bending.
Even without redirecting lighting iroh would still beat Ozai
In one episode of last season, Zuko was stating that Iroh could beat his father but Iroh said this is the avatar's mission

The dude had perfect controlled flight, could dual generate lightning (in a fraction of the time either Azula or Iroh could), and was able to bend fire with minimal martial movement.

Everyone brings it up like it's a trump card, but the truth is we don't know if Iroh would actually be fast enough to "catch" it and redirect it. We saw him do it with Azula, which she takes longer to generate than Ozai, and she didn't see Iroh coming. So I feel like Ozai has a better chance of hitting an older Iroh as opposed to a youthful Zuko.
I think the biggest difference, besides the overall power and lethal skill of Ozai, is that Ozai would gleefully kill his older brother. And with no hesitation or internal conflict (which is crucial to firebenders and especially lightning). I don't think Iroh could ever escape the fact that Oazi is his baby brother, and he'd be conflicted, fighting defensively, and not be pushing himself for the kill. In all things being equal fair fight and level headedness, I still think Ozai would win (but barely). But we need to take into account their character. Iroh is a good man who values the life of his evil brother, putting him at a moral and firebending disadvantage. Ozai has no issue with it, is completely internally calm, and at peace with his decision. Making him stronger, more lethal, and more ready for a fight.

Avatar Extras for Sozin's Comet says Ozai is the strongest firebender during the show. And I think during show, the Top 5 firebenders are Ozai, Iroh, Azula, Jeong Jeong and Zuko, with Jeong Jeong and Azula fighting for the third spot. However, if we take the entire franchise into account, I think it is Azula, Zuko, Ozai, Iroh, and Jeong Jeong. Azula eventually learns how to completely modulate the strength of her lightning (she can make zaps, instant lightning, and quick-charge lightning), ball lightning, area of effect lightning, control the direction of her lighting after firing it, faster fire jets, and smokebending. Moreover, not is it implied, and sometimes outright stated, in S&S and her solo comic she is holding back, it is also implied she can dual wield two of her smoke, fire, and lightningbending. Meanwhile, Zuko has imo the best fire redirection feat in the franchise that isn't done by an Avatar, producing dragon fire in process, and can fire jet in the South Pole at night while holding a grown man (Kuei) with both hands.
Both ozai and iroh are relative in power (ozai slightly stronger) but iroh is more skilled and smarter which is why he’s more powerful

@@tim8801 Imo, the hard thing about Jeong Jeong is that since he is a Grand Lotus of the White Lotus, not only should he have been able to learn about the other bending elements like Zuko and Iroh were, but also the Royal Family's techniques, including lightning redirection and generation, from Iroh as well. So, considering even Azula with her superior talent is still weaker than Ozai and Iroh due to age, Jeong Jeong should be stronger than Zuko for the same reasons. But we haven't gotten any confirmation about the scope of Jeong Jeong's abilities yet, and so why I just typed out is just headcanon for now.

We see after the learned from the sun warriors his fire ending was at his peak in the show and he went from getting embarrassed from azula to putting up really good matches, the boiling rock he had the upper hand with sokka, the blimp fight although was short ended in a stalemate and he was on a winning pace in the agni Kai, although azula was certainly weaker during that time. One thing we do know about jeong jeong is that he was getting old and up until he met Ang zhao said he retired from fighting so he may have regressed. In terms of lightning generation and redirection it’s not unreasonable to assume he can generate lightning but I don’t he could, and as for redirection he could learn it but iroh only invented it in book 2 and wasn’t in much contact with people and probably only met with jeong sometime after the eclispe which was like a week or so from the comet where we see him again.

Honestly, I know that the fire nation made fire benders look like very bad destructive people, but that doesn't mean that fire is the same as its bender. Especially given the fact that their reputation was destroyed by force and orders from a firelord who was completly mental for starting a war.
Just like the dragons taught Zuko and Aang, Firebending isn't about power and destruction, it's about energy. The very same energy you have inside you that keeps you warm and happy inside.
It's just like the fire we use today. Yes, if we're not carefull, fire can be a problem. But if we're just focused, precautiousnand smart, it can be used safely through cooking, light and warmth. Stuff we need in life to survive.
And when used right like Zuko and his last fight with Azula, or Iroh taking back Ba Sing Se, Fire can indeed be extremly cool and awesome to watch!😁

How is Roku not on here? He can freaking LAVA BEND. He trounced an older, more skilled Sozin, and he helped save his island from a volcano, only succumbing to the toxic fumes after Sozin turned his back on Roku. The fact that he was the one who chose to guide Aang the most also shows he has a vast knowledge of bending and the role of Avatar. He also manifested at the equinox and both melted ONLY the chains holding Zuko, team Avatar, and the one loyal fire sage as well as literally destroyed the entire fire temple in a single move. He deserved to be on this list.

Azula should be #1. I’m not a fan of her personally, but she’s obsessed with perfection and is the only bender in both series to bend blue fire, including all incarnations of avatars. When you look at her perfectionism and this unique bending, it’s clear that she was written to be the best fire bender in existence. She’s shown to have mastered fire bending beyond what any avatar has (who is supposed to be the master of all elements.) Her mastery of fire is as close to perfect as it can be, thus making her the most powerful fire bender.
Also in the comics, she taught HERSELF how to redirect lightning. She also proceeded to make literal balls of lightning that are impossible to redirect. She knew the fire element better than anyone, a true prodigy

yes i will explain why mako is the most underrated character in all of avatar he killed ming hua as one of the best water mage zuko himself said that each of the red lotus can stop any bender individually and together they can cause the end of the world and he was able to resist amon's blood magic and electrocute him Shamon is undoubtedly the water and blood bender and the best in the entire Avatar universe and Amon said that no one has ever surpassed him like this and that it is difficult for him to take bending from someone so talented and he was able to destroy with his lightning bending a robot 25 stories high and he knows how to both direct lightning and create lightning in the series only another person One managed to do both uncle Euro and that's proof enough of how powerful Mako is

Iroh's an absolute beast, but the man himself is not confident in his odds against Ozai. While I do think he'd have a shot, the creators themselves have confirmed that Ozai is #1 in raw power.
Azula at #3 seems right to me though (assuming we dont put Sozin there, but we just don't know enough about him.) She's still a child. Given time I think she'd have surpassed both Iroh and Ozai, but she has far less experience.

she was better than Iroh imo just at the age of 14. And she’d be the strongest firebender in history if we saw her in her prime

Ozai and Sozin are only really seen fighting during Sozin's comet, so I feel like we should take the power they show with a grain of salt, considering we haven't seen them fight without the comet to strengthen them
It is however confirmed that Ozai is still the greatest firebender in the world. He has no on screen feats, but i ain't gonna argue with the creators
bro you saw both of them fighting without any comet dont lie, In Sozin case in epsiode about rokus past, as Roku confronted Sozin in his palace he unleashed such a big as flame you only saw that huge as flame at the end of the season powered by the comet, but he wasnt in that scene. Than you saw in the episode of the eclipse, as soon as the tiniest fraction of the sun came out, Ozai striked Zuko with lighting faster than any character ever shown out of BOTH FUCKING hands, basically 2 lighting strikes at the same time at Zuko, his lighting strike would kill ANYONE in just a second

- Iroh the 2nd would whoop Zhaos ass with 0 difficulty
- Jeong Jeong and Sozin cant do anything with any of the lighting or combustion benders. Thus shouldnt be ranked above any of them. Even if they are more skilled

Azula is more skilled than Iroh too. Also in commics she taught HERSELF how to redirect lighting and even proceeded to make a ball of lightning that can’t be redirected. She understands the fire element better than anyone

We don’t see iroh a fight in the liberation of ba sing sae but the palace was the most heavily captured area when the fire nation invaded we see a ton of tanks drive in even if just a small amount was left iroh defeated them all and liberated the place single handedly

Yes! i'm not only suggesting, i'm saying it. Mako single-handedly took out a Mecha suit that was heavily fortified with spiritual energy, and as my subscriber have already said, was able to still bend lightening despite being under the influence of Amon's bloodbending. Mind you, Amon is considered one of the most powerful waterbenders in history. If you watched the video, you'd see Mako took out a member of the red lotus, who according to Lord Zuko, is formidable enough to take down the whole world. I mean i could go on.

that proves mako bending while under the influence of blood bending is flawed and does not correlate to skill.
With that in mind, based on SKILL ALONE, sozin, young iroh have more skill then mako.

Ozai defneitly should be under his children. The only reason he was able to keep up with Aang was because of the power from the comet, without it he would have lost quickly. He wasn't a good strategist like Azula, he wasn't adaptable like Zuko, and he wasn't disciplined like Iroh. I mean, Zuko could have straight up killed him during the Day of the Black Sun, and there was nothing he could've done about it. Ozai should not be in second place.

That said, Mako above the combustion benders and sozin is crazy to me ! 😅 shoot, I personally think even general iroh the underrated 🐐 from korra season 1 could give mako a good run for his money.. and imo general iroh is above s1-2 mako with s3-4 mako being a really tough fight between the two.
why? in S 3 you didnt saw Irohs progression, you talking like he would be on the same lvl never improving his skills. I mean fuck this dude is a general and is constantly improving, while Mako had some fights against criminals as police officer and played babysitter in season 4. If anyone of those 2 would SIGNIFICANTLY improve their abbilities it would be Iroh without question...

If you mentioned Sozin, then Azulon should be on the list too. Ozai called Azula a prodigy, just like her grandfather Azulon. So we can guess that Azulon was a great firebender. At the age of 95 he punished Ozai. I believe Azula had potential to become the greatest firebender ever but she's gone crazy, and Azulon was the man. Even better than Ozai and Iroh.

Iroh ! Definitely the best character in the entire series! Powerful in both combat, wisdom, and balancing his sense of humanity.
Azula, Iroh and Ozai are the top three on any list. The order can be debated, but they are the best regardless of what anyone says.
This ranking is so inaccurate. It looks like it’s based off of accomplishments instead of individual ability. General Iroh ( Izumi’s son) is easily better than most of the other benders you mentioned. Upon seeing some of them I couldn’t believe it. Like zhao who can’t even control his fire, or Mako who yes is really good, and indeed a prodigy, but come on, Iroh takes down armies single handedly
