@@budmcnew7763 Aw, you’re sweet. It’s awesome when someone takes time out of their day to insult and demean someone for no logical reason. Sorry your mom didn’t love you enough.
@@budmcnew7763 So you’re sharing information everyone already knows and think that adds to the conversation? Still a backhanded compliment, dude. Your awesomeness never ends. Thanks for clarifying?
Im not trying to be a jerk, here. I just want people with less experience to not spend big money on "uber gear" before they hear good suggestions. A guitar set-up by someone that's a Pro is mandatory or it will just screw with you. They can get things to stay in tune that you want to kill... that guy should be your best friend. : ) You will never get a good tone without enough practice to understand how to play things so you (and other folks, by extension) like how it sounds and be able to sustain it for very long. There's no gear cure that gets around it, just like the earth isnt flat. Billions of People believe in silly myths, what can i say? Its not my fault, just I really want guitarists to not get caught up in myths. There are two things that are scientifically proven to affect the tone that is coming out of the amp. Everything else doesn't to much of a degree, beyond subjective feelings and experiments that are not well Controlled. The first is the speakers. If they are bunk or they aren't for the style of music you want to be playing... you wont like the experience and thats not going to help you get motivated to get the Hours. Find out what speakers the guitar players you want to learn the songs by have (on that specific song) and you're most of the way. In hard rock you're probably gonna want celestions, blues you want jensens. Beyond that I dont have that much first hand experience. You can get there with modeling software easily if you start there, but some speakers just don't work for some stuff. i can tell u fender speakers are never gonna make you happy if you want to play punk and metal. If you're playing extreme metal you need those speakers. The second thing is that non completely sealed finishes vs completely sealed finishes affects it. If it's sealed, then tonewood, blah, blah, whatever... doesn't matter. Just play ELECTRIC, it's less complicated. Everyone's got digital amps out that simulate all the effects and do it for electric and acoustic. some even do bass, too. I liked my old line 6 stuff, but i love my I can't even say which brand, publically cuz there is a legit cult (meaning, they ARE worth following and we do cuz we know but a LOT of the appeal is that the prices always stayed low. lol) that has followed them since early 70s. Every time someone tries to sell something, the price just goes nuclear
You're welcome. I dont want anyone else getting caught up in cults. even though that company deserves followers. they do everything from big, metal tube amps to little blues combos and great bass amps. their new digital amps kick ass. they made better strats than fender in the 80s and 90s and tons of other good and cheap basses and guitars in the US.
I bought an IYV ipf-300 last year, and it was reduced because of a so-called blemish. I found the blemish and it rubbed right off. Only issue I had was the neck thickness, which I fixed with my shinto file and mahogany nitro from Oxford. That guitar sounds fine to me.
My IYV got returned because the wood inside the body looked light a chainsaw carved it. I got a replacement which was way better but you have to question the glue joints and construction on the rest of the guitar. I own 30 guitars so I wasn't expecting perfection but the reviews are full of crap. The Glarry Telecaster was junk. Saddles, pickup and the frets raised. The gave me a partial refund and I did the work but it's not worth the low price they sell for. The Grote 335 was nearly perfect out of the box.
@@picker63028 ahhh thanks for the info man! Yeah good reason to return. Yeah I have had no luck with Groove, Jet, Michael Kelly, Eart... They all needed major work out of the box. You just never know🥴
Not everybody buys "budget" guitars on the premise that "I need to work everything". Not everybody can do it. Not everybody WANTS to do it. We "moders" on the other hand, LOVE to buy budget and build GREAT! When one comes that is beautiful and near perfect, that makes them an awesome deal! I always expect a basic basket case to mod, and have NEVER received a complpete basket case. Even when I buy name brands...they come apart to make them "mine".
Yeah for sure! But exactly my point... Those who want a budget guitar that they don't have to mod, are not gonna find anything stacked like this thing! Not here in Canada anyway!
Just thinking about Jeff Beck and his struggle to sting. What ever to a length of wood , what a beautiful contrast to the idiots that returned those really nice instruments,
@@j-man9457 David Gilmours black Strat is a Partscaster that he modded every thing on. He once said that yeah I can buy any guitar I want, but to make it mine I have to set it up to fit me. I always liked that about him. I haunted pawn shops since the 70s for bits. pots, push pulls, switches bridges even hard tail string through bodies and quartersawn necks.
Uh, how many people have any idea what an early tele actually sounds like?? I own a 68 I've had since 74 and I can watch a thousand channels on UA-cam with people telling anyone who will listen that just about any guitar made today is better than a Fender or that "some guitar" sounds just like a tele or a strat. (And that's through your TV speakers, sigh). Go figure...because IMHO it goes well beyond simple sound...the old necks were unique as were the varnish and frets. But what do I know, eh?
@@landofahhs_1 yeah man! No clue. I was born in 71 didn't start playing till 88. I've played Teles most of my life. Mostly 90s and up. I'll tell you with certainty that these Musis are every bit as good stock, as any tele that I've modded or upgraded over the years... Now when it comes to a 68, I'd say hell yeah! Would love to have one! Enjoy it and keep rockin!
@@landofahhs_1 , Totally agree. Sometimes people love the particular sound of an old guitar's electronics caused by wire rot. The wire then fails completely and is replaced with new wire and sounds different. Maybe a resistor or capacitor wired in might recreate the tone, not that I'm an expert.
@@j-man9457 There was a 60s 70sand the new player series I think is a 12 inch radius neck with the modern truss rod and 6 rattle saddles with 5 barrels instead of 3. Some don’t have strings through the body. I bet a dime it’s a 60s Vintera 2 with the thin neck. My 50s has the ball bat U neck that could have been why., I can’t play a thin neck.
I’m looking at a similar issue. I want a Gretsch with a Bigsby, but even in the U.S. made ones, they don’t have the roll bar, that keeps a guitar w/Bigsby in tune. It’s another few hundred dollars, to buy and have installed. There are other things in the affordable series of Gretsch w/Bigsby Indonesian, China or Korean made line, that also need work. I ended up looking at used ones, because most who kept them, had the Bigsby fixed, got better tuners and other upgrades, and they’re sold for not much more than a new one, that may or may not need $400+ in upgrades.
Buying used from someone that knows their stuff is always a good deal and as you said, more than likely most issues have already been fixed or upgraded!
Ahhh Jeezzzz thanks man! Lots of great players out there demoing guitars that are way out of my league... I'm just happy to contribute! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! 🙂
Hey man. I can honestly say, both West Creek guitars I got from you, the 333 and the LP Junior style, both play and feel great. The M Musi plays awesome, and I keep it next to my desk all the time. It has become my "goto" guitar to grab when I want to work something out etc... the only issue I had (and you know because I popped in to your gig one night to grab a string tree from you) was the lack of break angle on the B and E strings. I used the M Musi at a country rehearsal, tuned to standard 440, and had zero issues. It sounded and played great! But that weekend, I used it at a gig, where we played everything from country to SRV, and we tune a 1/2 step down. With that reduction in string tension, it made the difference, and the fact that I am always playing open strings, the E and B strings kept popping out on me. The string tree fixed it 100%. They should have one installed on all their guitars out of the box. But for the price and the quality you get, I will gladly install my own any day. I might have to chat with you on that white Tele style... I might have to grab that one too. lol. Cheers Buddy!
They returned them because they are wannabes that bought a cheap guitar and when they attempted to play and didn't master it in the first 30 seconds and their tender fingers got sore they quit and said I can't do it. Happens all the time. They like the idea of being a musician or guitarist but they don't want to put the work in and/or have no natural abilities.
Yup it's quite possible... I run into that very same thing in my fitness classes. Everyone likes the idea of being fit, but when it comes to putting in the work, it's a different story hahaha...
Out of my 24 guitar's . I bought 10 of them from Amazon. 1 of which was returned for a exchange because of electrical problems . So even though you have a valid point . It's not the only reason 😎👍✌️
@@garyshields3551 yup I hear ya... Everybody has their reason and it's all perspective. For some electrical issues or I level frets would be a deal breaker, but for me, I would fix it or address it and upgrade the electronics... But when I get a budget guitar like this one that needs nothing and is pretty much gig ready out of the box, I can't help but be 😁👍
@@j-man9457 The biggest reason, is that Amazon just allows easy returns, and they just try another one, exchanging them over and over. People do this with pedals too.
You cant shop a neck profile online. Ive returned or sold off 4 since 2020 bc i ordered then didnt like the neck shape when i got it.only 2 i kept were an Epi LP 60s which i knew the neck would be fat but its ok bc thats a Les Paul. And then an Aria Pro2 Jet1 w the most wonderful med C strat neck w med frets Ive played for the price.
Yup totally get ya... However in the spec list for these it does say slim C shape with 9.5 to 12 radius so for anyone reading up before they buy, they should have a pretty good idea of what it's gonna be like no?🤔
@@j-man9457 I find it hard to disagree with what you've written here, but "slim C shape with 9.5 to 12 radius" doesn't say anything about thickness nor width of the neck at different points. It also assumes the buyer is experienced. A fraction of a millimetre over the neck width can make a significant difference to how it feels in the hands, and I think it's impossible to know if it's a good fit until you've spent some time playing it. Whether this is why somebody bought/returned a perfectly good guitar is anyone's guess. Maybe it was an unwanted gift, or the colour of the guitar didn't quite match their decor when they opened the box 🧐. I enjoyed your video and your playing in any case mate 👍
7:19 Strum an open chord so we can hear it as you turn the volume and tone up and down. If they're scratchy, that's when you'll hear it. Also for the hum, it can be generated in one or both of two ways. One is magnetic from a power transformer in equipment picked up by a single-coil pickup as you were trying to demonstrate (the closer to the transformer the louder the hum, and the guitar's angle with the sourcealso affects volume), the other is electrostatic, which you can hear with "high gain" (lotta distortion) and NOT touching the strings or any metal hardware on the guitar. If you get hum the second way, it needs the control and pickup cavities shielded.
@@TranscendentBen Hey good info! 😀 I have 3 of these classics... I gig with them regularly. Pots are not scratchy at all. Nice full size smooth pots. These guitars are already shielded from the company. They come with shielding paint throughout. Also pickups have insulated cloth wire pickups. I never get noise with any one of my M-Musi Classics... For this video, my phone (mic and camera) is literally on a stand next to my amp, and I'm an arm's length away from the amp and phone sitting on that chair... 😃
I bought a Firefly that was called out for having microphonic pickups. I got it fully expecting to swap the pickups. But they weren't putting microphonic pickups anymore. $225 for a beautiful Les Paul copy in perfect condition. No work necessary. I paid more for the case to protect it than for the guitar.
Amazon Customers did return these Guitars because this J-MAN is such a Great Guitarist that convinced them that they should Quit and Retire from ever attempting to become a Guitar like Him!
My FFLP needed fretwork. Some were popping out. Now, it plays fantastic. The tones are amazing. I run it through three early '70s Ampeg V series amps. Golden tones, unmatched.
many of those budget friendly guitars in my opinion are half baked.. Many need work...or have to be reworked... those budget companies save money, because they are half baked , the companies that make them expect us to finish the job for them... meaning we gotta fiddle with them . tighten a screw here, adjust here, change this, reset this.. I noticed the same treatment with budget bikes I have to fine tune them..
Definitely. They may have positives in terms of build at times. Some people get lucky with a beautiful build and decent playability but some get bad builds and ruins it all. Shotty strings or fretwork or whatever
That Musi has SS frets, a compound radius neck, and a bone nut, and locking tuners. Amazon ran out of them! That headstock is cut deeper to eliminate string trees! Nice playing!
Hey thanks and yes the guitar info is bang on... Don't forget the oversize strap buttons, compensated brass saddles, puretone jack, shielded cavities, full size pots and american blade switch, cloth wire pickups, roasted neck contoured heel and comfort cuts, and a perfect weight of 7.4lbs!😉
True true.or found out it really does take practice to play and that theres no guitar fairy that makes you a rock star overnight. Regardless of how many teeth you put under your pillow.
That applies to any instrument. The problem is us pro's (bone player here) or even semi pro's and good amateurs make it look easy because we've put thousands of hours of hard work in. People get put off when something isn't easy.....
@@ScratchySlide I was guitar center buying some strings a while back. And there was some kid maybe 12 or so with his mom and a guitar. I could overhear them talk. I guess mom and dad bought him a guitar found out you have to practice or it doesnt work. I couldnt help the temptation. I turned around and looked at them both and said, " What, you mean you thought you just gonna wake up one morning a rockstar"? His mom looking like she could use some sideline encouragement right away says, "Yep. Thats exactly what he thought". I told him its there, but theres three things to consider. You have to practice like you want it, your luck better shine as well. And most importantly. Is that the life you really want? I'll be homest with you. I dont think you do. Not that you cant. Its what you haven't seen yet. And if you're not willing to practice without being told, its already too late. You haven't sold the guitar yet, but you probably would be happier with an X box. He said," well what about you?" "I chased a dream that never happened. By the time I realized it, I was hooked on music and older than dirt. I didn't really want the fame. The moneys cool, but Im a one girl kinda guy. But nothing, NOTHING is better than playing a mean solo, even if nobodys there. Its not only a sense of accomplishment, but Knowing that came from you makes all the daily hours of practice worth it." Are you sure you dont wanna tell the guy you want the intonation adjusted, or you give up?" I seriously played the car sales routine beautifully. But I saw his and mom walk out to the car empty-handed. Maybe he did tell the guy he wanted it adjusted, but I doubt it. I did ask him before I left if he recorded any of his playing . He said no. Too bad Because everytime you play, you get better But you wont notice it because its gradual. Most people quit because the think theyve made no progress. Thats usually not true. Record yourself so everytime you feel you're not getting anywhere, pull out that recording and get ready to feel good again.
@@ScratchySlide But you write about people you never even saw. That is hard! How did you learn that? You'd say you stopped doing that, because it's not easy? What is going on, here? Is it easy, to blame others for being lazy? It is, isn't it? Is it?
OMG thanks man! You are too kind! There are much better players on here than me and they are not hard to find! I don't measure up, but I certainly appreciate your comment. You made my day 😊!
My guess is that the return didnt have anything to do with the actual guitar. Like they ordered a different color and got sent a white one so they returned it.
I bought a returned one from Amazon that was DOA with no sound coming out. Those are easy fix. I got another return that I could not find anything wrong with it. And the last one there was a buzz on one fret. The fret needs to be dealt with, but the action was too low, so I raised it a bit, although i do like it low. All these guitars had brand new nice strings on them as people do this first.
@j-man9457 totally agree J man! Started drumming 3 yrs ago. Watching 4 yolds drumming isn't good for my health. Now bass for 2 weeks...t same. Loving t journey 🤙
I really appreciate this video. I have never purchased an Amazon return but may try that now. I have always wanted a Tele with comfort carves and this will be my first. I watched your videos on the Musi’s with the vibrato arm. They seem very nice but the sound of this one with the single could is hard to beat. Thanks again.
Hey Thanks John? The Musis with the trem are the Virgo Fusions, more of a rock designed tele style whereas these are the Virgo Classics. A more traditional take but with modern features! I like them both hahaha!
@j-man9457 Hey I'm not sure what part of Canada you're in but I'm out here in British Columbia and these guitars are not showing up as available for delivery here. I wonder if they're only available on the East Coast or the middle of the country?

Wow really? I have yet to see a bad one... But that would warrant a return for sure I mean an unplayable guitar? That's a return for sure! But this one is totally playable like awesome playable... Can't figure what you'd buy for the same coin that would come close to this particular one???
Loved that segment that you started playing at the start ... seemed like it was kind of bluesy ... old 50's rock ish .... and some mix of honky tonk ALL mixed in . Then you caught my attention again with the music of the boy from B.C. Now that sounded just like B himself .
I ordered the blue musi tele over a year ago, put on new strings and set it up, however the bridge wasn't centered correctly. The high E was right at the end of the fret, while the Low E had lots of space on it. Also the pickups were somewhat microphonic on the one I got. Other than that it held tuning well and was beautiful and would have been my first steel fret guitar.
@@johnmason7425interesting. Sometimes when the strings are off like that, you just need to loosen the neck screws, apply some pressure to the neck towards the base string side and re-tighten the neck screws. Sometimes the neck just isn't lined up properly... But I have seen guitars with uncentered bridges as well just not as often as a slightly misaligned neck!
@@j-man9457 the neck pocket was nice and tight and the e string was closest to the edge there. I could have redone the bridge but not on a new one. Maybe I got a dud, because it was beautiful and I wanted to help it so bad hehe!. The frets and neck were perfect.
J-MAN, good to see you again! @9:00 and on - whoa! You are sounding fabulous. I like that guitar, the headstock reminds me of if Fender and Parker had offspring. I still have my EART telecaster, it shares a lot of similar features. I replaced the repulsive green pickguard ( on a BLUE guitar) with a cream pearloid one. Probably keep it forever. Take care.
Jeepers man! Yeah I remember you! Glad all is well and you're still playing! You're right about the Parker fender thing! Hahaha Take care as well and keep rockin'!
I took a chance on one Westcreek guitar. It was awful. I got rid of it, and for next to nothing. And that was after spending a couple hours trying to set it up, and dialing it in. I finally got it to where it would (basically) play. And that's about it. It was terrible. And I am a budget-guitar lover. Bought bunches of them in general, and bunches of them off of The Zon. And I've been pretty lucky. But every once in a while, you're going to strike out if you play the game. I don't buy the M Musi Guitars. But it looks like they are a big step up from some of the others. But you also pay more for them. So they should be pretty good. My 2 cents.
100% buddy... They are more money and yes they are a quite the step up as far as hardware electronics and features go.... Surprised with your Westcreek experience. I have played, set up and reviewed, every model they make and multiples of each models... Yes some require more set up work than others but all of them have been super easy to dial in with superb fit and finish. You obviously received one slapped together at quitting time on a Friday hahaha!
I sold my USA made Telly years ago and this makes me think it wouldn’t hurt at all even to get a cheap one and do minor repairs, fretwork, etc., if needed.
Maybe, just maybe, they didn't bond with the guitar. It just didn't "speak" to them. That's not to say the guitar isn't technically fine. It just left the previous owner wanting for something else.
@@mattgreven7615 yeah they are a relatively new company. Back in May they shut down production in order to relocate to a bigger facility. Once production resumes, they are supposed to have Gibson style models and Bass guitars added to their offerings. Up until now, they have only had Tele and Strat style models available.
I ordered a Fogill from Amazon. It was actually a nice guitar for the money but had two problems. It had a flame maple top that turned out to be a print they painted and it looked cheap. Also the volume pot had a bent knob with a catch in it. I couldn't get past the printed top and they should disclose it is a print. I could have easily changed the pot but I didn't want to because of that print. Otherwise the Fojill was a nice inexpensive guitar.
@@barrygoodson4952 I hear good things about the fogills. Yeah most budget guitars will have printed tops. That's why I prefer just a plane jane painted body when I buy a budget guitar. Some prints are cool though but yeah the ones that look fake really suck lol!
I have two M Musi Virgo Fusions. Fantastic guitars. I saw where Amazon may not carry them anymore so I bought the second one to have. A spare should something happen. I did a quick set up and floated the bridge on one and set the other as a hard tail. Love playing them.
I bought their "333" in Pebble blue ( a Gibson 335 inPelham Blue knock off). It looks a lot like the Dave Grohl model, but imho, it's better looking (it even has F holes instead of that weird diamond thingy). Out of the box the neck was seriously back bowed, but everything else was great. A simple adjustment of the truss rod with the (included) hex key, and I was good to go. Disclaimer: I'm no expert, so my "good to go" might be dog poop to someone that knows anything about guitars, but at any rate, I have NO regrets about spending 200 bucks for it.
@@LuckyFlesh nice man! I bought the same one a while back... The Blue 333 and yes it rocks! Everyone sets them up differently to suit their playing style. That's why every and any guitar you buy, brand name or budget, will require some kind of set-up 😉
That first guitar the Musi Virgo looks gorgeous out of the box, the cheap alnico 5 neck pickup is excellent as is the Wilkinson bridge perfect guitar made to perfection by Cort, how much was it ? $600?
I bought an Amazon return Fender Precision bass. It was returned because the bridge was offset by 1/4" and it put the E string right on the fret edge of the neck. The neck was mounted straight to the body but the offset of the bridge made the bass unplayable. When you pressed the E string half way up the neck, the string would slide off. So it is not unique to low cost guitars.
I don't understand why it would be returned, unless the buyer thought it should sound like you when they play it. I would not return it myself, even though I'm not a telly fan. I just wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It would have been my loss. It sounded good to me.
@@randywollin5732 haha thanks! Not sure if it's the playing thing 😊 but yes very good guitar! We'll never know why someone would buy this and return it...🤔
Mine is a beautiful vintage blue. Though I bought mine new, my experience was similar to yours. I was especially impressed with the comfort carves. Also the vintage looking rope wrap around the bridge pickup. Very cool. The neck roast on mine is a bit darker than yours. The SS frets are perfect. Reasons why someone might return a beautiful guitar like this? 1- Thought the guitar could teach them how to play. 2- A "friend" sold them on the idea of a Fender. 3- The model name. I'm cool with Virgo (that's my horoscope sign). Virgo's symbol is the Virgin. Maybe this dude thought his pals in his band would tease him. Or worse, introduce him as "ladies and gentlemen, on guitar the virgin of the group..."😂
Hahahaha never thought of that! I'm sure glad I'm not worried about what people think of me because I'd be missing out lol! Glad you got a good one too! Rock on!
Love your reviews. I owned up to 55 basses at one time during my 50 career as a musician. I've owned many Warwicks, Fenders, G&L and Alembics and have recently started getting back into these "buget" guitars/basses. My first "Tele" was a Chinese "Karina" model and all it needed was a new nut. I still own it 25 years later and it still plays and sounds great.
The 3rd string on my Dean acoustic sounds like a Sitar from fret 2 to about 8 unless plucked lightly...and it changes sometimes by the hour and sometimes goes away. I think it may be a loose brace. I was a singing drummer and a car accident damaged nerves in my arms and neck so I switched at age 35 in 2000 to be able to keep singing so I know nothing about guitars and I can only play well enough to back up my voice, so. I kept the guitar. I have no car and no place to take it to get this corrected. I ordered it.
Ahhh man sorry to hear this. I admire your courage to keep persuing music🤘😀 Not sure what the issue would be without looking at it. If the string is buzzing on those frets, the neck might simply be back bowed. Easily corrected by turning the truss rod counter clockwise. Or maybe that one string sits too low in the nut. 🤔 I don't think it's a bad brace as if so, you'd have more than one string affected...
Id been practicing on acoustic for about a year and when i played on a freind epiphone through and nice old peavey bandit, i was blown away. It made me want to continue playing. Ive now ordered an 1960 epiphone les paul standard. Its on its way. Ive ordered a little fender lt25 too. Cant wait.
I enjoyed watching you go through this guitar so much, I popped over to Amazon to see about pickin up a M Musi, but only saw the Westcreek. Nice pickin, enjoyed it all and subscribed. ✨🎵✨😎👍✨🎵✨
It's is always a pleasure to hear someone that can play. Maybe they used it for a gig and returned it. I know people who bought cameras filmed a wedding and returned it on the Monday. The same with clothes. Some people are just plain dishonest.
I know why they returned it. They couldn't play it the way you can. They then settled for the $89 Aamoon that sounded just as good to them. When you go out and get a good guitar and you are just learning to play the $89 guitar just makes more sense. I personally can't play worth a dam so maybe they are in my shoes and not yours. Anyway, you continue to amae me with your talent. Watching your fret hand bounce all over the neck is astounding to me. Love your vids!
Hahaha well thanks Rainer! Very kind of you to say. But really learning on a budget guitar is fine but a poorly set up one makes the learning process longer because you are always compensating... Budget wise, I understand your point....🤔
Recently picked up a different brand budget guitar and loved it except for toylike tuners. I decided on a $55 upgrade and have a really good unit now. Name brand tuners in gloss black, pretty sweet and very resellable.
I would say pickups......hardware is sometimes pretty sketchy.... :p For a string T, I use the Reverend 3 string , on these type guitars, or 2 Fender style Ts....yeah, let's hear it for a bit...most returned instruments are gifts or the owner is not in guitar class...it sounds pretty good but I would probably swap pickups....:D
Yeah I hear ya... But keep in mind my playing is just fair, and I using a small transistor amp and a 10 inch speaker. These pups through DR-Z would sound killer I'm sure! 😄
I bought the MUSI, and OH yeah I had to put in string trees, and I replaced the tremelo and it played so nice. The pickups (DH model) were outstanding. One thing I didn't care for was the the thin pattern neck. Bottom line for what they cost, you still need to have basic setup skills.
Cool man! Yeah for sure... No offense intended, but even Fenders need to be set up and most need fret work to be perfect. These are no different.... Besides, they are not built with you or I in mind hahaha

Hi J-man, I just received a Westcreek Racer with a set-neck from Amz. I lowered the action from the initial 3.5 mm to 2 mm, and now strings 1 and 2 choke out during the smallest of bends on the higher frets. It's going to need fret work to make it playable to my needs, and I don't like the gtar enough to do that, so it's going back. What condition did Amz say the gtars you bought were in, good, acceptable, fair? Seems like that musi is in great condition. It's hit or miss with Amz. Oftentimes I receive a gtar that Amz sells as new, but I can tell it's not.
Hmmm I reviewed a racer a while back and it was great but it did need a truss rod adjustment and a few frets leveled before lowering the action. Yeah yours could have been frets that were not pressed on right or just high frets... That is a reason for a return. I thought for sure I would find an issue similar with this one and the plan was to try and fix it during the video, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with this one so it sort of back fired hahaha... It didn't state the condition. Just said used like new, but like you said, you just never know with Amazon hahaha
If those have the same ''rounded stainless steel frets'' and installed/leveled the same way as my Eart GW2 headless guitar, he probably returned it because the frets are wayyyyy too low profile. They level them with some sort of Plek machine, and they remove WAYYYY too much material. At least on mine, it's ridiculous and I regret not returning it. They look like they have been re-leveled 2-3 times already, straight from factory. The only reason why I don't use this guitar is because of that. Finger friction on the fretboard is a BIG issue with my guitar (especially for lead playing). Other than that, the guitar is PERFECT. Not talking about ''low action''... but ''low profile''. The action may be set SUPER low and it's totally fine, as long as the frets themselves are high enough to prevent finger friction. HARLEY BENTON Pro Series is my personnal choice for an affordable guitar, if you can find one used in Canada (like I did), or if you're willing to pay the duties.. they are still worth it even after that.
@@j-man9457 Ah good to know that it may be just mine that has been overdone for some reason.. 🤷🏻♂️ Just to be clear, i was talking about "finger" friction on the fretboard, and not "string" friction or the fret. They are super glassy smooth on my Eart as well.. but they are flatten on top and way too low. Glad yours has plenty of meat! I should have returned mine.. 🤦🏻♂️
@@davidmultimedia2024 yeah I know what you meant... That sucks. Definitely sounds like they over leveled for sure... I had an EART NK-C1 tele a while back and the frets were not flat by any means, however I did need to do a fret level on it as there were quite a few high spots!
@@mattgreven7615 ahhh thanks man... Still have lots to learn! When these were still available in Canada, they were 469$ on Amazon. I got this one for 300$

There are often discounts on them... Keep checking Amazon... Hopefully they will have more stock soon! 😃
If you can already play, you can make it work. If you're a beginner, the low end guitar is where you learn how to make it work. Some of the bargain guitars are pretty darn good. Some, like a 3/4 size bass I bought for $125 have fish hooks and razor blades for fret ends and rattle like a tin can with marbles in it.
Wow. Thank you for an extremely thorough and informative review. And you play amazingly well! You are one of the best reviewers IMO, and you are an honest and genuine person. Thanks again.
I name them at :56 seconds in the video... M-Musi Classic, made by M-Musi, And a WestCreek Revenge made by WestCreek. These are not Amazon Guitars. They are only sold by Amazon. Amazon doesn't make guitars, neither does Reverb, Walmart, Guitar Center, Kijiji and E-bay etc... I will add the names in the description as per your suggestion. Thanks!
I agree, maybe because of the break angle issue. I have a Sire T-3 Tele, also with no string trees, and the high E string pops out all the time. I would have string trees installed on it, but the guitar doesn’t sound or play anywhere near good enough to spend a dime on it. It’s a “trade-it-in-at-guitar-center-for-$100 bucks” paper weight. What is the big deal about having a string tree to begin with, so there’s no chance of that problem? Tuning stability? On a Tele? No, nobody should have to deal with strings popping out of the nut, and that problem can get much worse if the string gauge is changed from tens to nines. Also could be the neck radius (if it’s not 9.5”). I returned (on Amazon) a fantastic sounding and superb quality Vola brand, made-in-Japan Tele-ish (forgot the model name) guitar because it had a 12” radius that I hated. Could be the neck carve - maybe it’s too “baseball bat” feeling. That can really fatigue some people’s hands. It could be something else about the neck carve that the person didn’t like. You fail to mention some very important specs. Is the back of the neck satin? Really fast and slippery?I HATE fast, satin necks. I’m used to, and, I like a neck with a coating on it; It’s not as fast, which is a good thing for me, and I use the back of the neck for friction so I can hold certain stretches without slipping. Does the fingerboard have rolled edges? Are the edges “too” rolled? I don’t like the way my Sire T-3 rolled edges feel even though their rolled edges are patented and called “Edgeless”. I guess I like edges. Could be be the stainless steel frets. I prefer nickel frets (and so does Paul Reed Smith) over stainless steel. Just a feel thing, although I would be inclined to try and deal with that, as long as they were “medium jumbo” and not “narrow-tall” (ugh) or extra-jumbo (ugh). And last, I didn’t hear any drop dead gorgeous clean tone like one would get from a good sounding Tele in the middle position (both pickups) playing a few lush jazz chords into a blues junior or other Fender tube amp with a little delay and a touch of reverb. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t have it though, I just didn’t hear it.
@@jayaz7781 hey thanks for the detailed comment. I'm surprised about the Sire. I hear they are really good... Glad to hear from someone who has one! This Musi did not need a string tree. Strings were not popping out on this one. However even with Staggered tuners, which this one has, there just isn't enough break angle behind the nut on a fender style, straight headstock, with 6 on a side tuners, so I installed one on the E & B strings. Radius on these is compound. 9.5 to 12. Great for chording down low and soloing up top🙂 Neck is a slim C shape. Fretboard does not have rolled Edges. They are smooth and not square, but not rolled over like on some guitars I've seen. Neck is not sprayed with a satin finish or a thick poly finish which I hate. These necks are Roasted. Not too slippery and definitely not Sticky! Frets are SS yes, super smooth, highly polished, feel like you're bending on glass and they are medium Jumbo. Sorry no Jazz chords here. I'm not good enough for that😕 Cheers, J-Man
The guitar sounds amazing, and your playing is outstanding and inspiring. I will definitely be hopping on to Amazon to see what I can snaffle ! I subscribed, too ! Thank you for the upload ! 🤗😊❤️🖖✌️
I'm with the J-Man on this. Probably most guitars sound great in his hands. But, I could tell from the outset chords it has a great sound. As he said, the neck was straight. So any playability issues were going to be fixable. Odd that someone returned it. But one never knows the full story of each guitar.
Thanks... That's right we don't really know. I had the title for this video planned before I even opened the box. I was expecting to find a major flaw or playability issue but in this case the return wasn't due to the guitar being problematic out of the box... So probably a money issue, color issue, neck feel, weight or simply a curiosity issue... Who knows 🤔 Haha Cheers!
This guitar is string through. However with the vintage style Wilkinson ashtray bridge on these you can top load as well. The brass saddles are compensated to better dial in intonation. And yes these can be retro-fitted with a flat modern style 4 hole bridge plate...😉
It is good to hear and see some honesty in the music world these days. Frankly, I believe you('cause I want to), for a cheap guitar you cannot do better.😂😃😀
Hahaha hey thanks! It's not like I get paid to do UA-cam vids LOL, it's just for fun and to share info. Honestly, maybe I'm missing something, but I have not seen anything from any other brand available around here that can compete with these Musi teles for under 500 dollars... Crazy!!!
I see people returning or trading $10,000 guitars they probably had custom made. Some of these exotic wood guitars are beautiful to look at but lack the sound quality.
I recommend anyone buying these cheapo guitars save your money and buy what you want! Do it right the first time. Get a set up or buy a cheapo and practice perform your own adjustments.
I couldn't get the action right with mine without buzz. Unless you have the action high enough it'll buzz. Didn't want to mess with the frets or take to a Luther. Great guitars other than that.
I have more than one of these and a few have needed a few frets fixed and sometimes a shim in the neck. These 2 things once dialed in allow for low action... I got annoyed with taking my guitars to a luthier as well so I just do it all myself now hahaha...
Great, down to Earth Reviews as usual ! 👍👍 Thanks Jay ! 😊 P.S. Judging from the Pixelation on the back of the Neck, it looks like a 1/4 sawn Neck ? 🤔 Which is another Positive ! 😍
I bought a MANNIX guitar which even my very musical neighbour couldn't get to tune so the company sent me another (keep the old one they said) the second one arrived broken in two snapped right at the neck/body so probably rough handling by couriers, I was told to keep both and got my money back! So I won't be buying any more of those again.
Well, maybe whoever bought one wanted to see if a tele style guitar was for them? And not spend the money.? But they could go to a GC for that.. I know I became interested in P-90s, so, the West Creek d/c caught my eye. It's fantastic for the money, and now, I really like P-90s. A solid buy.
@@charleslanphier8094 it just the luck of timing... When you're looking at an item, below the price , if you see an option that says “save with used like new“ click on it. It will give you a description and an option to buy an open box / returned item. But fair warning, Amazon's definition of "like new“ varies greatly from item to item hahaha!
When looking for my first electric, I think I noodled on 13 different entry level strats at GC on 3 or 4 visits - and I hated the neck shape on all of them. (For bass, I prefer wide and flat - so old Peaveys and Yamahas.) So, it could be as simple as that. Dunno.
Yup when the guitar itself has no major quality control issues or 0 playability issues, then yeah the reasons for a return are impossible to determine...🤔
I like the looks of that guitar, including the headstock. I'm not a fan of white guitars, but it looks ok on that one. How much would they have paid for that guitar only to return it later?
Only think I think I'd send it back for is the appearance of the headstock's front. I think in the flesh it would begin to fall out of favour with me after a while. The applied white lacquered section looks a bit cheapo. A more 'classic' all wood look and it's a fine thing for me. Sounds great and nice country chops, sir.

I returned my Mmusi. It was a nice guitar but for $349 it had a lot of issues that were more consistent with a guitar half the price. My Mmusi needed string trees, ( strings kept popping out of the nut ) and the nut was cut way too shallow. Additionally, if you look down the neck length wise on the side where the small fret dots are you will see the fret ends don’t line up at all. It does not affect the playability but it really bothered me. I suspect since the frets are stainless they finish and crown the ends off the guitar then install them. Another thing was the locking tuner bound up on two string and felt like they were bent.
@@keenedgedesigns yeah I've been looking as well... I think they are just completely sold out. Hopefully they get new shipments and models coming in soon!
The neck looks to be a little small for the pocket on the body (gapped). An American Pro Fender Tele is ~$2400 CAD (just bought one last week). I've had a Austin brand S.Korea made Tele for a long while and it was pretty great for the $200 I paid for it but it certainly does not feel or sound like the Fender tele. I could easily gig with my Austin (and a lot of guys that played it at jam sessions said it's awesome), but still, my US Tele is waaaay better in every way. I'm not the type of musician to buy instruments online to have them shipped without having my hands on it first. So I always buy locally after I've played it personally myself. It is cool to see at least something great for beginners to get for the price!
Loved your video!! I've been mind blown by a few very inexpensive guitars, but have never found any that were so well set up right out of the box!!
You will never get a good tone without enough practice to understand how to play things so you (and other folks, by extension) like how it sounds and be able to sustain it for very long.

Good to know!
Cool! Blemishes that wipe off are the best ones! And good on you for thining that neck. Most people would not attempt something like that!

But this is not a 50s tele it's a 2024 tele 😃
Uh, how many people have any idea what an early tele actually sounds like?? I own a 68 I've had since 74 and I can watch a thousand channels on UA-cam with people telling anyone who will listen that just about any guitar made today is better than a Fender or that "some guitar" sounds just like a tele or a strat. Sometimes people love the particular sound of an old guitar's electronics caused by wire rot.
The wire then fails completely and is replaced with new wire and sounds different.
Maybe a resistor or capacitor wired in might recreate the tone, not that I'm an expert.

Thanks Danny! If these guitars are good enough for a player of your caliber, that's all I need to know! You da man!
They returned them because they are wannabes that bought a cheap guitar and when they attempted to play and didn't master it in the first 30 seconds and their tender fingers got sore they quit and said I can't do it.

He said no. Too bad
Because everytime you play, you get better
But you wont notice it because its gradual.
Is it?

My guess is that the return didnt have anything to do with the actual guitar. Like they ordered a different color and got sent a white one so they returned it.
Yup could possibly be🤔
Bingo! Happens all the time in mail-order.
@j-man9457 I'm sure it was probably someone buying reviewing returning or maybe a drunk purchase hahahah

Jeepers man! Yeah I remember you! Glad all is well and you're still playing! You're right about the Parker fender thing! Hahaha

Yeah for sure! Never hurts
To customize a guitar to what you like! 😉
Maybe, just maybe, they didn't bond with the guitar. It just didn't "speak" to them. That's not to say the guitar isn't technically fine. It just left the previous owner wanting for something else.
Yup for sure a possibility! 😁
Exactly
I've never bonded with Tele's either. I prefer Les Paul's or SG's.
I've never heard of that brand, but to your point--it sounds great! Maybe I should see if they make a bass...
@@mattgreven7615 yeah they are a relatively new company. Back in May they shut down production in order to relocate to a bigger facility.

Regular 485, I got it used for 300$!
😉
I bought an Amazon return Fender Precision bass. It was returned because the bridge was offset by 1/4" and it put the E string right on the fret edge of the neck. The neck was mounted straight to the body but the offset of the bridge made the bass unplayable. When you pressed the E string half way up the neck, the string would slide off. So it is not unique to low cost guitars.
Interesting! Did you fix it or send it back?
This Musi has perfectly dialed in alignment so definitely not the reason for the return...
Wow! Great Tele. Is it for sale? For how much? I just heard the playing part of it
It's awesome, and it's already gone... My good friend really wanted it and I already have 2 of these, I'm happy he's happy! 😄
Wow. Man very impressive.
Nothing wrong with a guitar only needing a nut! I wish that were all this thing needed hahaha!
I admire your courage to keep persuing music🤘😀
Not sure what the issue would be without looking at it.
Cant wait.

Interesting! Thanks!
No the frets on these have plenty of meat. Like bending on glass. No friction at all...
@@j-man9457 Ah good to know that it may be just mine that has been overdone for some reason.. 🤷🏻♂️
Just to be clear, i was talking about "finger" friction on the fretboard, and not "string" friction or the fret.

If you can already play, you can make it work. If you're a beginner, the low end guitar is where you learn how to make it work. Some of the bargain guitars are pretty darn good.
9.5 to 12. Great for chording down low and soloing up top🙂
Neck is a slim C shape.
I'm not good enough for that😕
Cheers,
J-Man

Who knows 🤔
Haha
Cheers!
I don’t like the bridge. String through and getting rid of the rattle saddles and the ridge that beats your pinky up helps. String through is best.
Yup good point!
I recommend anyone buying these cheapo guitars save your money and buy what you want! Do it right the first time. Get a set up or buy a cheapo and practice perform your own adjustments.
Yup there are no bad guitars today with CNC technology!
Only bad CNC operators, bad set ups, or bad components... 😉
Awesome playing, man. That axe sounds great!
Oh well thank you! ☺️
It's more so the axe than it is me hahaha. This thing is amazing for the price point!🤯
Great, down to Earth Reviews as usual ! 👍👍
Thanks Jay ! 😊
P.S. Judging from the Pixelation on the back of the Neck, it looks like a 1/4 sawn Neck ? 🤔
Which is another Positive ! 😍
Hey thanks CC! Great to hear from you. Hope all is well! Yup you're right. This neck is 1/4 sawn!
Rock on!
Enjoyed the playing as much as the great review!
Ahhh jeeeezzz thanks man!😊
I bought a MANNIX guitar which even my very musical neighbour couldn't get to tune so the company sent me another (keep the old one they said) the second one arrived broken in two snapped right at the neck/body so probably rough handling by couriers, I was told to keep both and got my money back! So I won't be buying any more of those again.
@@rickhicks2445 Mannix? Never heard of them... Where do you get these?
Well, maybe whoever bought one wanted to see if a tele style guitar was for them? And not spend the money.? But they could go to a GC for that..
I know I became interested in P-90s, so, the West Creek d/c caught my eye. It's fantastic for the money, and now, I really like P-90s. A solid buy.
@@peterpellerin1374 yup who knows! Awesome guitar for sure!
Yeah P90s are fantastic!
How do you go about buying guitars returned to Amazon?
Yeah this guitar looks good! They would have gotten a full refund if within the Amazon 30 day policy...
Maybe because the bridge p.u has a kind of a ' nasal ' sound ; not sparkling
@@Jef-sj6zc that's just my little home practice amp! 😉
Dude! I love your guitar playing! I'd love to play in a two guitar band with you and I've been playing In trios for 35 plus ears
WOW man thanks for the compliment! You may want that 3rd member of the trio once you see how limited I am haha!
Keep rocking man!
Thanks! 😊
@@j-man9457 You're welcome 🙂
You sir.....are an AMAZING guitarist !!! Love that chicken pickin !!!
Thanks man! Just self thought and I'm pretty rough at times but man I really love those Nashville guys, they are so amazing! 😍
Just How do you buy a returned guitar from Amazon? I tried various searches but came up with nothing. What am I doing wrong? Very good video btw, subscribed!
Ive just had my fingers burned basically highlighting this point. Seems the video was some kind of hypothetical situation for the purpose of talking about the guitars? Anyway - Who is the viewer to suggest a presentation could be in any way misleading
Thanks man... It's not easy, it's just timing... When you click on a thumbnail of a guitar then the ad and info open up, sometimes if you're lucky you'll see written below the price listing something like “save with used like new“ and if you click on that link, it will give you an option to buy an open box/returned model. But those are not always in the inventory....
Man i was waiting to get one of those white Musi teles, delisted from amazon canada now though, too bad. Not alot of options for white teles on the cheap side
@@-brohdie yeah hopefully they will be back soon!
I have a few Yellow classics I'll be advertising soon if you're interested hahaha
$300 CAD 😉

Thanks man. Never heard the guitar referred to as a fiddle before, but it's cool, 😎. Welcome to the Channel!
Loving those cicadas in the background. I love playing with peeper frogs in the air.
So how do you buy a returned guitar. Do you have to luck out in a pallet? hE DOES NOT EXPLin how he bought these two guitars.
It's just timing man... So when you're looking at a guitar or an item on Amazon, just scroll down just below the price and sometimes you'll see an option that says :"save with used like new". Click on that and you'll get an option to buy a return open box of whatever you're looking at... However Amazon's description of used like new is not always accurate just FYI!
Good luck!
Great heads up and even better playing!
@@aggit8 thanks man you're very kind!
See those are good reasons to return... But this one does not have those issues🤔
@@j-man9457 When you look down the side of the fret board on yours do the fret ends line up or are they all different lengths?
M Musi is not available on Amazon anymore. I wonder what happened?
@@keenedgedesigns they are super even. No issues on this one at all...
At $2400 Canadian it should be great lol! I'll year this one apart in the next video to see if there's is any construction woes!
Loved your video!! I've been mind blown by a few very inexpensive guitars, but have never found any that were so well set up right out of the box!! My guess is that someone cares more about what the headstock says than how well the guitar works??
BTW, I AM an electric guitar maker and professional (55 years now) guitarist! I play my own guitars, but would be plenty happy with that guitar!
Yeah unfortunately you're probably right!
Hey cool that you build your own from scratch. Are you from Canada? If so I'd be interested in buying one of your builds to feature on my Channel🙂
I hate the big names how they have reduced quality and inflated their prices over the years. Just can't stand behind that after playing something like this Musi!
