Guys, regarding the counterfeits. People came up to me saying they came to this guitar show after watching my videos. Not everyone is a guitar expert. So I feel responsible for relaying information to you. You need to be aware there are a few counterfeits. I did not speak to the sellers about them, and they probably do tell people they are not real. The no name copies, and appropriately branded copies are totally legal. But having the Fender and Gibson logos on the copies is illegal to sell. As long as none of you guys are getting scammed, I don't give a s*** what the sellers do. It's none of my business otherwise.

Man, I wasnt going to comment on your video - this being the first one I watched, I didnt want to be negative, but your closing comments put me at ease. I buy and sell gear - have for years - and I was like - what? It initially looked like a gathering of pawn shops trying to sell their old, over-priced inventory. I did see some quality items in the video, but I couldnt agree more about the pricing. The sellers are going to drive business away from the flea market if they dont change their approach to pricing - no one is going to invest time and money into going to a Samick guitar museum next to a dusty parking lot in the Florida heat. If you cant buy anything, you are mainly a spectator and that wouldnt be anything worth my time to browse. Worse yet, it hurts the sellers with good inventory and fair prices - they get washed out in the frustration, or they get caught up in people shooting low offers based on what they are seeing in the over-priced stuff. One last thing, and I make this comment with the utmost respect to the builders and those that customize branded guitars - take the time to learn how to paint or pay someone else to do it for you. So many great builds and customization that is just ruined by crappy paint/finish work; orange peel, drips, waves in the lacquer, etc. Thanks for making the vids. I need to catch up on them. The guitars I though were the most cool were the Gibson Goth guitars. I am a sucker for cool inlay work!

Good video... I collect guitars & "items related to the 2nd Amendment". But you're 100% correct on pricing.
Last week, I went to my favorite guitar store/pawn shop & bought a perfect Taylor mini w/gig bag for ~$400. A few months ago, I bought an (Epi) SG (w/ the Bigsby) at a lovely price. The store owner operates on lower margins & higher volume. He does really well, mostly with loyal, return buyers. (Just like Sam Walden & Amazon)
These guys (& the smaller gun show operators) need to take the hint... Lugging a bunch of $200 Squires back & forth, hoping a cash heavy buffoon will buy then at $800/each? That is a loser's game.

I want to add, you are correct about Reverb. I frequently go to reverb and ebay, search a product then use filters to find what the item actually sold for. I do not mind paying a fair price and someone making money on that sale but as you mentioned, if they are so over fair price, I don't want to deal with them and will find another seller that will be fair.

Also - the issue with that Teisco is that when the Teisco Spectrum V’s started hitting $2k, everybody with a wacky-looking multi-pickup Teisco from that era started to try to cash in, asking stoopid money. Kinda like when Harmony H44’s got expensive, everybody with a boat paddle catalog guitar from that era suddenly wants $1500 for it. Sometimes a POS is a POS.

    • @HankCoffey
      @HankCoffey  Місяць тому

Yeah, it seems the only high $ spectrums I saw sold was collector condition ones with paperwork? The 2 and 4 pickup ETs are very common. The guitar sounded great, intonation was trash though, that's why I didn't play it much.

The 349 price on the Valley Arts strat is about on par with market right now. I have a couple Valley Arts 5 string basses branded Samick during the transition and they're basically the Lee Sklar Valley Arts model but in 5 string (which was never going to get built as a signature model) - so I snapped them both up, and they were both 299 each. Nobody wants to pay more for them but I'm not going to sell them - they're gorgeous, sound great, play great, and except for the logo on the headstock, they're 100% Valley Arts quality.

I've watched so many of these type of vids now, like dozens and more, and it's always the same - a ton of guitars I've either never heard of or know better than to buy, and a load of guitars that I would buy except they're priced at ridiculous crazy prices. I honestly just don't understand how these guitar marts keep operating, I mean no one ever buys anything from these stalls, not that I've seen. Some stock seems to get traded between dealers, but the public are just browsing. And the attitude of some of these 'sellers' lol, I mean who wants to deal with someone who starts of making you bristle and gets worse from there. They know they're just basically having a laugh (I'm being nice), and some are darn right nasty. I wouldn't waste my time and money going to these things, and I'm constantly surprised anyone else does. I'm in the UK and there used to be loads of these guitar fairs, but there's almost none left now and it's no surprise at all. Guitars are easy to find - the market is flooded beyond all reason and bargains are plentiful, there's no reason to get ripped off at one of these things. Anyway, just my 2C

The flying W was cool, I like all of your previous videos on these flea markets, nice when you tell us the price of each guitar, you could actually turn this into a business,a buyer service for people seeking used guitars, middle man fee of like $50 to 100 dollars, they pay for all shipping and price of guitar, all you do is set up the deal between the seller and the buyer,do not cover the cost let that be worked out, between buyer and seller, all you do is ship after the deal is complete, claim you won’t be responsible for any shipping damages during shipping.

    🎶 🎸 🐻 🍩
    Postscript...
    On a more depressing note...
We've had a terrible year so far and it's still very stressful. My biological father died, and then my Stepdad died too, who was the one I grew up with, and my Mum's second husband for the last 50 years. My Mother's Dimensia has gotten much worse and she needs 24 hour care, and there's been a few technical problems selling her house to pay for her care. It's taking ages and many months of solicitors efforts trying to sort it out.
It's extremely tiring and I struggle to cope with my chronic fatigue problems and anxiety. Plus I had the flu, followed by pneumonia, and in July a mysterious illness that has left me even more fatigued than ever before. It's a good job I've got Tricia and other family to do most things currently, although Tricia is now getting more stressed as Mum's savings are to run out soon, and the delays selling the house are still a big obstacle. It's mainly to do with a fire in 1999. The company that did the mortgage on the house held everyone's deeds , and other things in a big warehouse which was destroyed by fire. They replaced everyone's deeds, BUT there was 2 big mistakes on the new deeds registered with our country Land registry's, that wasn't noticed at the time. This is currently the main obstacle 😔

Hey JaanJaan, the winds got to about 20 mph for a few hours... nothing big. When the hurricanes aren't on land, there isn't much damage here. They have to be going over us. That is a bummer about your health and house problems. You would think a realtor would be able to expedite what ever process that's going on.
I am slowing starting to go live again JaanJaan, it will be at the same time as past. About 10 or 11am my time. But, it has to be based on Twitch. If I stream on UA-cam, UA-cam will interrupt my stream on most of the cover songs. And then I have the copyright claims that come through on the replay after. People are so hard headed about coming to Twitch, that I will probably multi-stream here as well for a while, to bring over viewers... but on a lot of songs, my stream will stop playing here. You will get a frozen screen. All special interactions and chat priority will be on Twitch. I think you might be following me already over there.

@@HankCoffey we will be lucky if the Land Registry does their stuff before Christmas , and the buyer we have keeps on getting the price he pays dropped. He is getting a house worth around £320k, definitely at least £300k for £275k now, and our legal fees are probably around 10k. And that's with thing's sped up because of my Mum's health too! Her personal GP[general Practitioner] has written letters which weve sent to the various places including Land Registry. We're probably going to have to get a short term loan to pay for my Mum's care. Tricia and me have excellent credit ratings and we now own our house and have no mortgage or any other loans, so in theory it should be straightforward.
I still have Twitch loaded onto my old Tablet, which is slowly dying because it stopped being supported by android updates last month, and many things have stopped working.
But I also have twitch on my smartphone, which I loaded just in case I spotted you live!
And i bought an Apple Mac laptop , not the basic one but one up from basic with a terribyte of memory, which i need lessons to get into doing things, including using GarageBand. Plus I need an appropriate thing to connect my guitar.
All of the current stuff about my Mum comes through one of my email accounts, and maybe you could send a quick email the day before you definitely intend to go on twitch? Otherwise I would forget as my brain isn't great, becauseof my CFS being worse. I recently got referred to a new specialist organisation helping people with CFS[Chronic Fatigue Syndrome] and fatigue problems from "Long Covid". My Problems started after having Shingles followed by Glandular Fever nearly 20 years ago now, and the 3 significant illnesses I've had this year have made my brain worse.
I will send you an email from the email address I see daily.
