I'm very fortunate to have large hands and fingers for a short guy...so I can hit those two notes at the same time. Unfortunately those are the only 2 notes I can play of this. 🤣
WOW! This is actually faster than in the song. Rudess really is my favorite pianist, keyboardist/keyboarder/keypad whatever you wanna call it. truly awesome
@Volcomrider2207 Theres a video somewhere of him playing a (supposedly improvised) piano solo, and although he plays on a keyboard, in their new song On The Backs Of Angels he has a classical piano solo that he actually played on a grand piano. So yes, he is a FANTASTIC pianist.
When you practice something for hours at a time, trying to be half as good as someone else, its great to know that the gap between you and that someone narrows a bit. ;-) I'm not dissing Jordan, nor will...
rudess is definately the best keybordist that dream theater has had yet. id like to see him try his hand at lyric writing tho... maybe on the upcoming album!? and also myung needs to write lyrics again too. keep it up Jordan! your the best!
@PJB1775 He studied at the pre-college division at Juilliard, which is a Saturday program for gifted musicians below college age. He can definitely play, since the standard for pianists is pretty high, but it's not the same as an intensive collegiate level conservatory program. And yes, I do know what I'm talking about, I also attended Juilliard pre-college.
right when he starts the octave run. it does end in a b major arpeggio but he's doing a cadence thing there so it goes to the sharp 7th before resolving the the regular b. so i guess its actually an A# technically,
im trying to learn this atm. its too hard but i guess its worth spending my time on Rudess' epic solo \m/ good luck all keyboardists and piano players out there :P
The song GOES that way, the only difference is at the end when he does that piano slide, it's supposed to be a guitar to make an slide and if i am correct, i dont see a fricking guitar near him, so he just does it with the piano
TO ALL THOSE THAT THINKS HE IS HAVING RHYTHM PROBLEMS He's not, That's how dream theater writes their music, they change tempo and time signatures every couple measures..
fx33399, as musicians, we surely realize that being a true musician doesn't only revolve around "speed", as how fast you can play certain scales or patterns.. there's much more than just raw speed, for example: interpretation, touch, creativity, etc.. comparing raw speed is a fancy way to show off, of course (i admit, i use speed to impress people too), but winning the speed competition isn't a guarantee that you're better! it's good that you're fast, but don't forget the other things as well..
Arguably the best keyboard solo in metal music....because it's ragtime in a metal instrumental song.
He's so good that words cannot describe his playing.
at 0:06 he has is hitting 2 notes with his left hand that are 16 keys apart xD
0:06
His fingers so fucking big
the more impressive thing is that he hit keys inbetween too
I'm very fortunate to have large hands and fingers for a short guy...so I can hit those two notes at the same time.
Unfortunately those are the only 2 notes I can play of this. 🤣
I will never get tired of this song!
It's a part of the song "Dance of Eternity" from the album "Scenes from a Memory".
you get tired of it?
hahah NO! times change, this one stays legendary
This is going to be my new ringtone
It's like he doesn't even have to try to do this flawlessly.
sounds like a mad circus going on which is cool and funny at the same time
this solo is made for eternity!
that is hands down, my favourite part from this whole song
Imagine Jordan Rudess and Ray Manzerek playing keyboards side by side,,,
WHOAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
pretty much the most awesome keyboard solo lol dance of eternity is one of my favorites
ive been watching many of his videos latley, and his fingers each have a mind of their own, amazing.
WOW!!!!!!!!! you did an amazing job.
i JUST spent like, all of my free time in the last week learning this and i FINALLY GOT IT. so hard, especially without sheet music
Was that... was that sex?
i replayed the video so many times it is awesome
rudess...eres el mejor pianista que ha pisado la tierra!!
I always love piano player's hands.
They're stretching length is humongous.
Look at his pinky... look...
he has all those pianos.... he deserves so many more
imagine if jordan would be employed as a editor in a newspaper, he'd be typing a million words in a minute.
food for thought
till now my list of the great pianist and keyboardist
1.-Jordan Rudess
2.-Keith Emerson
3.-Chick Corea
4.-Michel Camilo
5.-Herbie Hancock
WOW! This is actually faster than in the song. Rudess really is my favorite pianist, keyboardist/keyboarder/keypad whatever you wanna call it. truly awesome
back in time to 1920s ;-)
A Piano God. None the less.
The phrase "GOD AMONGST MEN" comes to mind.
I love this part, this and the bass solo.

probably the best 17 seconds of my life
When you practice something for hours at a time, trying to be half as good as someone else, its great to know that the gap between you and that someone narrows a bit. ;-) I'm not dissing Jordan, nor will...
i like it how his arm just flops off at the end
God damn!
Jordan's fingers has own minds and brains!
I absolutely love this section. I used to play ragtime a lot, but I don't really get to play piano as much now...
there is so much win in that solo
dream theater uses way weirder time signatures than rush and more often. they also do alternating bars more often.
Jordan Rudess can play circus galop with a toe
rudess is definately the best keybordist that dream theater has had yet. id like to see him try his hand at lyric writing tho... maybe on the upcoming album!? and also myung needs to write lyrics again too. keep it up Jordan! your the best!
@Malookoo008 this has been my ringtone for so long lol, sometimes id rather jus listen to it then answer the phone
Yep. Not to mention the fact that his solo career started around 1988. So 7 years isn't very likely
I can't even understand how this can be done...
i can hear this for hours..
That's a song? Don't know...my head just exploded! LOL!!!!!
@PJB1775 He studied at the pre-college division at Juilliard, which is a Saturday program for gifted musicians below college age. I love how his arm just flops down at the end, I don't blame him
My feeling on this portion on the dance of eternity is like I'm in the wild west. Or, I'm like watching an old silent movie...
woo hooo thanks
This was just another one of those Epic dream theater FTW moments xD
I know someone who is at a rape crisis center right now, and it is the replay button!
Yeah this is real progressive rock for ya... Way to go rudess!!!
definetely, i love this song so much b/c of the mixed meter, it gets into like Rush wierd time signatures!
0:00 REPLAY BUTTON!!!
My favourite part of the song.
@Augustenborgify Progressive Metal ;) This is a part in Dance Of Eternity by Dream Theater
If only my brain could work as this keyboard...
looks like jordan is going into a music store sees this piano and playes that amazing riff from dance of eternity, "i like the action on this one"
amazing, makes me itch so bad to hear the next bit of this incredible song.
you have to download the udio with a program like jdownloader, turne it in to mp3 and upload it to your phone
he's crazy man....i love him!!!!
remember to look at his official you tube channel, i dont think many ppl know about it JCRUDESS search for it its awesome
It does! I never noticed that
right when he starts the octave run. it does end in a b major arpeggio but he's doing a cadence thing there so it goes to the sharp 7th before resolving the the regular b. so i guess its actually an A# technically,
@AlexFoeNZ thank you.. it's a beautiful piano sound.. loud bass
amazing
Yep - same here. That is the most difficult bit in it. Although in the video here, even Jordan slows down a bit for the octave run !
It looks as if his left hand was independent from his body. Truly amazing 5 stars
17 secondes de pur bonheur *.*
definitely keyboard madness
my head is exploding. awesome
My jaw just dropped holy shit dude
im trying to learn this atm. its too hard but i guess its worth spending my time on Rudess' epic solo \m/ good luck all keyboardists and piano players out there :P
i will cry seeing this its amazing T_T
and cue awesome guitar solo!
I always remember Charles Chaplin when listening to this.
Best of the best
love it when he plays solo
😃Excellent😃
YES. Congratulations, you, sir are the proud owner of common sense that no one else on youtube seems to have :\
VERY FAST YOUR MAKING ME WANT TO PRACTICE MORE
absolutely love this riff
The song GOES that way, the only difference is at the end when he does that piano slide, it's supposed to be a guitar to make an slide and if i am correct, i dont see a fricking guitar near him, so he just does it with the piano
He is the only person that covers himself. and from 0:06 to 0:07 there is a NEW sweep that is not in the original album, but on new playings
TO ALL THOSE THAT THINKS HE IS HAVING RHYTHM PROBLEMS
He's not, That's how dream theater writes their music, they change tempo and time signatures every couple measures..
Thanks! This video helped me A LOT to transcribe this ragtime (by ear) to the Guitar Pro!

how he is so amazing? :S RESPECT
great jordan! :D
Nonononoo
He keeps looking at his right hand while he plays, but it seems as if his left hand moves like automatically hahaha
He's just too good
My only regret is that the ragtime part is too damn short.
From Jordan Rudess Online Conservatory
