Love the raw unpolished sound where you can hear the attacks on the keyboard and him humming along
I think it was came from his mic on his shirt.
100%
the dexterity of his fingers, at near 70 years of age, is just mindblowing
He's called the wizard for a reason; it must be some kind of witchcraft or wizardry. I keep forgetting he's nearly as old as my mom. Had the pleasure of seeing DT perform live multiple times and the virtuosity of Jordan, Mike (M & P), John & John always amazes me. I don't feel much for James' singing these days though; he's been declining in range, discipline and technique for the past 12-15 years.
Insane. What's even more impressive to me is the fact that he started taking up guitar a few years ago, and hes already able to shred pretty impressively. The dexterity needed for guitar is even more demanding than piano
Music keeps him eternal
Yes, but time is catching up with him, if you listen closely.
@@josephjester4917 I definitely hear the mistakes, but that’s not necessarily age. In the other Pianote video, he mentions that when he’s playing these songs every night as part of the set list, and really warmed up, it gets really consistent. That said, I understand he’s not in his absolute prime at 67
Bro wtf this is the biggest flex (coming from a guitarist). The dexterity of Jordan, his hands being able to flawlessly play the same thing, different things, swap, do different styles, control his foot work. This is a league of his own! All he is prb looking at in his tablet is the changes in time signatures. Total genius.
He actually displays the full sheet music for every song on every show on the iPad he usually has on his live rig. He knows everything by heart, but it's all there if he needs help.
@@diegopeart Oh wow thank you! Still a dextrous extraordinaire
He's been greatly improving on guitar the past few years too. He's a shred machine and it's kind of ridiculous and unfair haha.
@@diegopeartFrom what I can tell he mostly uses it to remember when to switch patches. He's got presets for each song and a foot pedal that changes which patch he's on, and I'm pretty sure he's also got one to go back a patch if he accidentally hits the forward switch twice in a row
I actually love it that you can hear the keys being tapped
Now we can do a split screen of Jordan on Pianote and Portnoy on Drumeo playing this song in unison 😊
I can do vocals 😊
We need to add Petrucci from Guitario!
We're on to something here boys!
1:17 humming the melody as he's playing
This is one of my favorite songs from that album about a dude being hypnotized and having memories from a past life when he was a girl who was murdered.
Headline: Murder, Young Girl Killed
Then got murdered by the hypnotist.
I can see on Jordan's face that he wasn't pleased with the performance, several times his timing was slightly off... but to play this piece is one monumental achievement of the highest performances out there in the music bizz.
I'm glad someone else said it, I was sat here giving him an 8/10 feeling bad about myself. Early on he knocked a few times too, but still this is several levels above my playing. If it's any consolation I pull the same faces when I dont hit the runs perfectly clean.
I think it's good to all of us watching our music Gods struggle with the music as an average human being. At the end of the day they are bone and flesh too.
Probably not helped by the very first bar!
Yeah, wasn't perfect by any means, but hey... HE'S DAMN 70 YEARS OLD! That's a huge flex for someone of that age...
He did the classic Victor Wooten 'ahhh' at one point since you can hear the camera audio mixed in too
Man, my fingers hurt just from watching this. Its so impressive how easy he makes it look, truly a wizard of the keys.
His retention is incredible. I don't know how he remembers all the notes.
worth noting that this is probably the single hardest environment to play this song! it’s harder than the original studio because it’s one take with a ton of patch changes, but also lacks the warm-up, musical chemistry, or organic tempo of playing it live. the solo piano version requires more finger strength, but even there, Jordan has control of the tempo. bravo!
Finger strength on an electric piano, uh-huh
Otherwise agree, JR is a beast
not one , take, is clearly edited. obviusly im aware jordan can play it in 1 take
No warmup ?? Why ?
He should be able to do it any where.....This ALL he does.
@@MusicGoodies- When you're playing at this level, you need to warm up. It's like a professionnal athlete, even though they do it for a living and practice everyday, they still need to warm-up for their body to be at 100%.
For the Dance of Eternity especially since it's probably their hardest song to play
The rawness is what makes this next level. Moans, groans, hums, key sounds, it's the real thing.
6:13 i can already hear One Last Time
It's such a great song but they almost never play it... instead it's the corny The Spirit Carries On at every show...
@@Raymaster7482 I get why you'd consider it corny, because it kind of is as a solo piece, but in the context of the album it fits perfectly. The overly dramatic and cliché themes work in an album that utilizes such common tropes in juxtaposition with a story about sharing a spirit/soul with someone from the past and reliving their life via hypnotherapy.
I'm a big Dream Theater fan and love Jordan's playing. A real wizard!
Since listening to the Liquid Tension Experiment albums in high school, Jordan helped form my passion for weird, virtuosic music.
I remember asking out loud "Yeah, there's lots of great players out there but who's, like, the best?" and someone recommended LTE as a possible contender. I couldn't really argue against it.
i remember listening to "another dimension" for the first time. i don't think i ever made it back to my original dimension.
A natural interpretation without audio editing, I like it :3. I loved that you included the ambient mic in the mix.
Listening to Dream Theater since 1996 when one of my cousins gave me a cassette tape. I've been to one of their concerts here in Rio. It was surreal. John Petrucci played Under a Glass Moon right in front of me, about 16 feet/5 meters.
Glass Moon is an example of the perfect guitar solo.
Imagine ever trying to actually DANCE to the Dance Of Eternity
I imagine that it is indeed how nerds dance anyway.
It would take an eternity to master that dance.
Olympic breakdance music.
I always dance to this, what are you talking about?
We can't. We're not eternal😊
Can't wait to see Mr. Wizard and the rest of the squad once again play such beauty live.
Big hugs from Argentina 🇦🇷🇦🇷✨✨👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥 The dance of eternity lives in our souls
he didn’t look the keys, the keys look him.. respect the wizard 🥹🤟🏻
Mind-boggling! Amazing talent and skill. I've seen comments here and there recommending Jordan Rudess and now I can see why!
You should get Tigran Hamasyan on the show!
As a beginner piano player (who nevertheless gets a lot of joy from it) knowing that I'll never be even 1% this good is incredibly humbling
Skills, dedication and Goatee
The music I used to listen to every day on my way to high school
The best keyboardist all of time ❤❤❤
Bach would like a word
If you like him, check out keith emerson from elp
Probably his biggest inspiration. He’s the most well known prog keyboardist and shaped the genre. If anything, i credit him for inventing the genre considering he was one of the earliest to do it and have a lasting impact (since 1967)
I love the smile he got on his face at the beginning of the “rag time” section
Always Incredible!!! Asked him to sign my Rudess Morganstein Project CD and he gladly did. Silver sharpee. Always will treasure.
0:31 he's human
I'm sitting through the build up waiting for him to start thinking to myself "This is going to be incredible. He's impossibly good." and he starts off with a clam in the first bar. I love it. The other 47,000 notes were spot on, though. The progressive rag at 2:35 is delightful.
That single note on the arpeggio?
Forgot to change patches at one point too
@@JayTheLane yes
He pass the captcha test to verified hes human
Love that you kept the ambient mic on. Gives it a bit of a Glen Gould playing the Goldberg Variations vibe. :)
🎹Played 1st time = liked . . . Played 30+ times = addicted 🎹
what a masterpiece
If you really pay attention you will notice that in the end he made a huge mistake: he ended the music, when it should go forever... What a masterpiece!
Awesome to see just a raw take, appreciate that, Jordan is a monster. Would so love it if you guys could manage to get Jem Godfrey from Frost* here. Another amazing prog keyboardist at the top of his game who is a bit underrated, but he's super funny and his chops are top top!
The best. 🤩
literal god
@5:10 I’m glad to see he uses a “harmonizer”, I spent weeks trying without and not knowing, almost got it but gave up 😂
Yeah this video is making me feel better, having struggled to learn this one.
There are other moments where he’s taking a few liberties to make it slightly easier to play than the original. Phew!
its simply.....Genius!
He is loving what he is doing❤ pure artism🎉
Absolutely stunning performance, wouldn't expect anything less from Jordan!
Videos like this are one of the reasons I pay for internet!
Fantastic is an understatement!
TheDanceofEternitycellent
What a beast of a musician. A virtuoso, a great human beeing! :)
Love this live performance!!!
Absurdly incredible and as expected of a performance when talking about our dear Mr. Rudess.
I would really like to hear this song in a version played only on an acoustic piano by the great master Rudess.
You’re in luck! There are videos here on UA-cam of him playing it, with piano only
Edit: though technically it’s a digital piano and not an acoustic piano, but still
One of the G.O.A.T!
Wow, that's all I can say! The Dance of Eternity, up close!
I don't like keyboards but I like Jordan's playing. Great job in Dream Theater history. Those were days...
I'm always impressed!!
fantastic
What a talent !
One of my favorite songs ever
Bravo
When we say Jordan is the best keyboardist, believe it. This man is from another planet.
Amazing performance as always!🎹🤘🏻
Finally, Rudess in human mode.
This is a masterpiece. Amaziiing
Beautiful! I am in love :)
Esecuzione volutamente ed eccezionalmente imperfetta. Complimenti
O engraçado é que mesmo com pequenos deslizes, não consigo achar nem um defeito no mestre das teclas. O melhor dos melhores! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
This man is just epic 😅
THE greatest keyboard mage of all time!
Damn this dude is talented. I was amazed by his Empire State of Mind video but god, to be able to play a Dream Theatre song so effortlessly like this is crazy....
So true! Almost like he composed the song 😉
JR is an absolute master on his instrument ánd in his genre.
I have a feeling this song will be played on the upcoming tour.
Ah yes, the dream theater castlevania song ♥
💓 My favorite DT song!!!
Thank you for this video
A M A Z I N G ! Iam speechless .
The goat Jordan rudess! Greetz from Indonesian DT die hard
Jordan...You're The Man. Wow Amazing.
God damn Jordan. You’re a monster!
2:32 my phone ringtone since the album came out :D
Ragtime! 😄
Also for mine for a long time😂
He is "The Alien"❤
He’s from another dimension.
Insane!!!
I've just realise that The Dance of Eternity is lean to the keyboard heavy song rather than guitar centered song
I love this man
Absolutely awesome!
I'm hoping for a bonkers instrumental like this on the new DT album 🙏
There is a reason his name is "Jordan". He's the best.
its so insane
An Alien? A wizard? Just Jordan Rudess!
A surprisingly human performance from Rudess here
I’ll be playing along with my air keyboard in October at the London o2 🤘
Jordan Rudess like bazillion times perform this music
it's weird watch jordan plays The Dance of Eternity without his majestic keyboard stand 🤣
Genious
The greatest rock keyboardist ever imo.
The sound is like a boss fight in some Final Fantasy games.
Bravo 😱😱😱
I saw him playing this in the legendary Kurzweil K2600!!! I'm getting old!😂
the goat of keyboard in the galaxy 😂😂
I love these 13.46 over 7Pir2 time signatures...
Awesome. If you made a mistake…none of us knew..unless you really know the music. I don’t. Great job Jordan! Thanks for sharing!
But, I knew....
Some parts were off-time, but then again, still the Wizard we all know ❤
This is a guy who entered pre-college courses at Julliard at the age of 9! And that was in the mid 1960s... Don't try to convince me that Jordan isn't the elusive, Blue Wizard, from Tolkien's epic tale...
One and only 💫💯
Inacreditável isso!
Outstanding stuff Jordan Rudess. Paul Bielatowicz' Nosferatu 2024.
best musician in the world
This is fantastic!
the best keyboard
