Anyone else after dealing with that kind of reactor incident: OMFG I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE Amos after dealing with that reactor incident: Huh. I didn’t know I could do that. Neat.
I like the line where some guy says “Someday, you and I are going to tangle.” And Amos responds coolly, “How about now? I’m free right now.” The guy meant to intimidate Amos, and Amos just stepped up.
i like how both the writers and Wes have said on many occasions that Amos doesn't make threats, he states fact. so when you hear him say things like this run, run away very quickly.
Amos was smart. He knew that the Belters he had threatened were crossed and angry. If he gave the Belters time to think of a plan, they would likely succeed in surprising/torturing/killing him. But if he immediately goes to a location where the Belters can gang up on him, the Belters will be too angry to think straight and instead come immediately after him
After this he gets up to get his toiletries out of a bag. The bag has MURTRY written on it in factory white font, then AMOS over that in red paint. Amos is a predator if there ever was one. Like, he didn't sanitize the old name, he just wrote his name over it casually. It's not a status thing, he doesn't care if someone sees it used to be Mutrty's bag, he just wants people to know it's Amos' bag now. He walks into a room and sits down in a chair whether it's empty or not.
This type of way to make points is my favorite, and something I try to emulate in real life too; long-winded stories which purposefully avoid the point until at the very last moment for maximum poignancy, otherwise people start to intimate what your point is while you're still speaking and start to argue against it to themselves before you're finished, but if you do it this way and people can't make out what your point is until you hammer it home at the very end, it tends to really hit them at a guttural level.
I'm a bit late to your comment but this is quite good observation about people disconnecting from their ears in order to focus on internal thought process.
Change reactor coolant for superheated steam. Let that hit your skin and it'll hurt like hell but you'll survive. Breathe that stuff in where it burns your lungs? Pretty much doomed to drown slowly from there.
Nah, they would think he's bragging without proper context for the character. The "I am that guy" scene is a hell of a spoiler, but it's Amos to a T, he didn't hurt him, he didn't delight in killing him, it was just a guy that someone needed to kill, and Amos was that guy.
What Fred said. You don't want to do that. These scenes work only because you've seen the character grow and live throughout the show. It's like SW fans sending non-fans swordfighting clips thinking it will wow people into watching the show/movie. No it won't. Without context it's just two individuals swinging light sticks for a few seconds
Obi Wan Kenobi would be good too. Obi tried to get the two toughs at the bar to back down but they refused and then tried to attack. So Obi-wan cut one of their arms off and intimidated the rest of the bar as well
The irony of those guys being hustled pulling back nervously when Amos sits up. Shit, those guys probably the safest people around bunking with Amos. Just don't be assholes.
There was a time I got caught in a reactor crawlspace when a coolant pipe blew, and that coolant is radioactive as fuck. Hits the open air and it vaporizes just like that. You get it on your skin, it ain't good, but it washes off mostly. You'll survive. You breath it in, though, you get those radioactive particles down in your lungs where you can't get 'em out, that pretty much melts you from the inside. I had to get all the way to a maintenance air lock, open an emergency panel, strap a mask on my face without breathing any of that shit in. Point is, I learned some things about myself. I learned that I could hold my breath for almost two minutes while engaging in physical stressful activity. So you have to ask yourself, how much damage do you think I could do to you in two minutes before the knockout gas gets to me? 'Cause I'm betting it's a lot.
It would be interesting to see Amos with a girlfriend or a boyfriend (honestly i dont think Amos would care about those details) and see him a a fragility emotion state. He is too much focus on himself... and if he dies, its fine... if doesnt fine too! But having his life in someone he loves in their hands... that would be interesting to see. Something like Naomi and Holden... Amos can bring so much damage to those who hurt the people he care... now imagine for those he really love. Sometime we would see Amos in such emotional out of control to a point of why, he forces himself to control every emotion.

It has even more impact (pun not intended, but appreciated) because Amos grew up on earth and therefore has significantly more muscle mass and higher bone density than any belter.
@@masterofdesaster8 I was thinking the same thing! Why would they risk getting seriously injury against an Earther. Let alone mother f@@king Amos, who could likely take on a small group of Belters on a decent day. And just did, as well XD. They needed to gas him, to have a fighting chance. its better, it has way more acting in it and its not a one liner scene.

First of all: I didn’t start it.
And second: They were all alive when I left‘em.

Belters "better if you take the beating"
Amos "it's better if I don't"
This is Amos's way of saying "Do you feel lucky, punk"
Indeed it is but better, so detached & he's honestly giving the guy a real opportunity to abandon the situation with his health intact.
Yeah but in a much better way.
Or "Do you feel in charge?"
The best thing is that after he goes directly in the showers because he doesn't like to wait.

One of those very rare perfect combinations of actors and dialogues in the right place at the right time. It really is kind of beautiful.

I would still say it is better in the books, but the show got pretty damn close. Such a great scene.
