"I am that guy" - that was the moment the TV version completely superimposed on my imagined version of Amos. With that one sentence and look the character was just perfect. Also the pumps, the reaction of the two women is superb. By far the best character in the TV series and a close tie with Avasarala in the books (sorry TV show, not enough swearing :P)
@@Ksr3740 his backstory is a little vague but i think the origins comic explains it best. the churn also seems to cover some of it. theres a lot of stuff left to the imagination though. needless to say his past wasn't pretty.
90% of viewers don't recognise what an incredibly nuanced job Wes Chatham has done with this role. The clarity and level of control he shows is so consistent and his character is so incredibly well written it's a joy to watch his subtlety at play. It must be a VERY difficult character to play, but what a wonderfully rewarding role for an actor 👍
I think we all an agree that is by far the most memorable Amos moment to date. It's also one of the best one liners to add to the list of best liners from movies and series.
The screwdriver scene with the reporter! Powerful stuff and I think at that exact moment Monica realized that all the times Amos blew her off, avoided her, refused to answer her questions or tried to get them off the ship weren't him flirting or playing hard to get. At that moment she connected with the fact that their lives ultimately didn't mean anything to him and that she was probably going to die with a screwdriver buried in her neck. Wonderful acting on the part of Mr. Chatham and Ms. Hopkins, especially with a camera shoved up her nose.
Amos to Prax - "take cover first, shot later" Also, though he does not say a word. The look on Amos' face when Prax says to Mei; " this is Amos he's my best friend in the whole world" I don't care what MasterCard says, THAT is priceless!
I don't think anyone here really gets why. But it's simple, although Amos can't process what is the right thing to do sometimes, he wants justice so badly. That's why because he can't trust himself to determine what's right, he will anchor himself to people that can.
Maybe not my favorite but I loved the bit where the guys they were fighting threw a grenade into the room and Amos just nonchalantly picked it up and threw it right back.
"You live here or something?!" "Yeah, I got a flop next door." "Next door's a brothel!" "Yeah." I freaking love how nonchalant Amos is about that. Like "Yeah, so? Gotta sleep somewhere right?"
Exactly that. It's not an exact match but this is also basically the reason Daryl Dixon is probably the most interesting (but not central and not wanting to be central) character on TWD too.
Wes Chatham may be a relatively novice actor but he does a lot of subtle work as Amos. Especially with his eyes. He conveys a lot with small expressions and the way his eyes dart until they go wide and focus like a hawk who sees a rabbit.
Amos is the only honest character in the show. He doesn't hide anything. If you ask him a question, you get a plain honest answer without sugar coating.
There is no favourite moment. Every bit of screen time of this epic actor/role synergy is cinema gold. Wes Chatham sells the character so well and authentic and the lines the the writers give him are simlpy perfect.
Not happening any time soon as I understand. 6th season is 6th book, that's where the show is gonna end at this point. I know the 7th book is years later, so, who knows what might happen.
Woah, I just realised Amos has the little Demon pin on him in every episode. I've watch the show through 2 or 3 times but I never noticed that before. Fun fact: It was a gift from a childhood friend in Baltimore - with a history you need to read about to get at - so read "The Churn" or The Expanse Origins graphic novel for context.
I draw a lot of parallels with Garibaldi from Babylon 5 with this one. Sure, Garibaldi wasn't a sociopath; but he had these tendencies, you see . . . Yeah. Very similar characters; grittiest of the gritties and so on . . .
That line about Baltimore is pretty accurate for most of the inner-city thugs of Baltimore today. In the 24th century, I am sure that scene will be prophetic.
anyone know if the teen prodigy dj/producer "James Holden" was inspirational to the character or not? I really hope so. much love to the series and fans regardless
Amos was my favorite, he was effective, he was comfortable with who he was, he has no doubt about what he had done!! But he has been thinking more and more and has become less and less effective. The show is ruining the Amos character.
Sorry, disagree, if by "less effective" you mean not as lethal. There's a main subplot in the show about how he's evolving a more complex expression of morality, and "thinking more and more" is Amos developing a rudimentary conscience.
What's your favourite Amos moment?
Yes.
"Did I miss it?" :D
The correct answer.
I am that man.
Wes does an amazing job of breathing life into a complicated character. His humanity is always there, just below the surface.
The bit where he asked Holden what Avarsala was wearing. And Holden's reaction. That was brilliant
That was golden. 😂😂😂
That line about walking around in pumps, and the two women's reactions were great. Thanks so much for posting this.
Amos has got that swagger, that's for sure. Also, I wish they included his "What was she wearing?" scene.
"I didn't always work in space." - Best Amosism ever.
Bobbie... just had this "well that was weird but explains a few things" look on her face.
Makes me curious as to what scenario would he wear pumps

Not only that, but that beard... never a hair out of place
@@CGCampbellJr I bet he had a "Beard Wrangler" to take care of it...😆
He apparently saw a psychiatrist for help with performing amos due to the characters pretty dark upbringing. He did a great job portrayin amos
@@kman1893 Ahhhh thanks for adding that, I didn't know 👍
He was absolutely one of the highlights of the show.
My favorite Amos moment wasn't there. The "You're not that guy/I am that guy" scene.
Agreed, his true self shows there.
I think we all an agree that is by far the most memorable Amos moment to date. It's also one of the best one liners to add to the list of best liners from movies and series.
I remember watching that scene and saying “prax isn’t, but Amos is...” right before he said it
My first thought also. Definitive Amos moment.
that should be #1
This show doesn't get enough credit. There's enough wisdom in it for three lifetimes.
Exactly this. No matter how many times you rewatch it, it produces something new you never noticed before.
The screwdriver scene with the reporter!
Powerful stuff and I think at that exact moment Monica realized that all the times Amos blew her off, avoided her, refused to answer her questions or tried to get them off the ship weren't him flirting or playing hard to get. how is it that despite being arguably the most broken and different chatacter, Amos has such a wisdom of life? i need an Amos in my life
He is wisdom because he is broken and different. You don't learn so much from those that see life the way you do
He’s badass irl. He was a firefighter in a navy warship.
I don't think anyone here really gets why. But it's simple, although Amos can't process what is the right thing to do sometimes, he wants justice so badly. That's why because he can't trust himself to determine what's right, he will anchor himself to people that can.
no, you don't.
Maybe not my favorite but I loved the bit where the guys they were fighting threw a grenade into the room and Amos just nonchalantly picked it up and threw it right back.
Ah yes, the famous Unholy Hand Grenade Scene
The best television adaptation of one of the best characters I have ever read period.
Such a well casted role, he totally owns the character
"You live here or something?!"
"Yeah, I got a flop next door."
"Next door's a brothel!"
"Yeah."
I freaking love how nonchalant Amos is about that. Like "Yeah, so? Gotta sleep somewhere right?"
Amos is THAT Guy.
"I didn't always work in space" - Amos... favorite line between favorite two characters!
Exactly that. It's not an exact match but this is also basically the reason Daryl Dixon is probably the most interesting (but not central and not wanting to be central) character on TWD too.
When Amos eyes go wide like a shark, it's party time, and no one walks away.
“Ok, I’m gonna need my gun back.”
THAT is my favorite Amos moment! “You’re not that guy, I am that guy” is pretty much his classic line, but this one is my fave.
Wes Chatham may be a relatively novice actor but he does a lot of subtle work as Amos. Especially with his eyes. He conveys a lot with small expressions and the way his eyes dart until they go wide and focus like a hawk who sees a rabbit.
The man is a huge fan of the books before the show came about. He took taking on the role very seriously.
Gotta love Amos. Him alongisde Miller and Bobbie are awesome for me.
Amos is the only honest character in the show. He doesn't hide anything. If you ask him a question, you get a plain honest answer without sugar coating.
Makes me kind of envious.....
@@cynthiafarris1051 me too, I would love to have a friend like Amos.
A perfect role for Wes! He nails it!

Amos is the man. Watch the show just to see what he does next.
"we are not fucking anymore"
xXDXD i love that one
I need season 5 now. xD
Amos Burton: The way I see it, there's only three kinds of people in this world, bad ones, ones you follow, and ones you need to protect.
Amos has changed over the seasons fast becoming my fav.
the best caracter by far
I almost agree,..close tie with Avasarala
No best moments list would be complete without "I am that guy."
yeah you missed the definitive scene............You're not that guy....I'm that guy
This series is so underrated, people who don’t know what a gem of the story it has books or tvshow
Amos needs his own show ... (with Camina of course ...)
Amos going to be very interesting when the show catches up to where the books are now.
Not happening any time soon as I understand. 6th season is 6th book, that's where the show is gonna end at this point. I know the 7th book is years later, so, who knows what might happen.
Best serial ever
I love how he beats the shit out of a guy with a can of chicken, and then eats the chicken.
It's funny how sometimes they connected unrelated scenes in this edit from different episodes or seasons that do sound connected afterward.
The guy wanted chicken Amos gave him chicken. XD
I didn't always work in space. LOL
The best part about Miller punching Amos is that it barely makes a sound
"How do you know what it's like to walk around in pumps?"
"I didn't always work in space."
F'n Amos man. What a legend. lol
Amos is my favorite
All I know is this season better start with a scene depicting just how bad Murtry got busted up after he took a poke at Amos....
"Thank you"
Yo. I loved every single cast member even the side characters. Non of them fell flat.
Woah, I just realised Amos has the little Demon pin on him in every episode. I've watch the show through 2 or 3 times but I never noticed that before.

I draw a lot of parallels with Garibaldi from Babylon 5 with this one. Sure, Garibaldi wasn't a sociopath; but he had these tendencies, you see . . . Yeah. Very similar characters; grittiest of the gritties and so on . . .
Amos isn't a sociopath either
Amos Burton. The hottest guy *ever* in Sci-Fi.
End of discussion! 😉😉
“Thank you!”
Amos was perfect
the 15 downvotes come from people who either have never watched The Expanse or people who secretly like canned chicken
Or maybe from people who justly expected to see the "I am that guy" scene and were disappointed. ;-)
Amos liked canned chicken enough to eat it after he beat the guy with the can.
psycho eyes, such a gifted performer
this would have been better if some of those scenes hadnt been cut so short. Youre missing some of the best parts
When diplomacy fails bring in the brute.
How can you omit him saying to "Chrissy"... "You could be both."
That line about Baltimore is pretty accurate for most of the inner-city thugs of Baltimore today. In the 24th century, I am sure that scene will be prophetic.
Amos or Omar. You decide.
Amos for president
Nah, he'd just nuke everyone. School bullies, robbers, scammers, they all get nukes. Maybe even with their own names on them.
@@minetech4898 lmao, true
he'll separate his people into 3 categories people you follow, people you protect and bad people and then kill the bad people

🤦🏻♂️ no “ I am that guy” scene? *fail* until an edit.

Weren't they all best moments?
Possibly the most amusing sociopath in a TV series since the Apprentice. ;-)
There needs to be an update to this
"Pleease! Shutchya word hole!"

Bobby's face at 1:49

First of all it didn't start it. Second of all they all alive when I left.
There were a LOT more Amos moments than this, but these are OK.
are some of those clips from season 5?
Season 5 isn't out.
That thumbnail. screams Bastards that's real tequila
He looks a lot like Aron Douglas from Battlestar Galactica.
Ew, no.
A lot of characters didn’t realize that Amos was from Space Wire a far more dangerous show

Amos was my favorite, he was effective, he was comfortable with who he was, he has no doubt about what he had done!! But he has been thinking more and more and has become less and less effective. The show is ruining the Amos character.
Well, the writers of the books are writers of the tv show and it's their vision. So.....
