  • The yamaha tw200 needs a skid plate! and the stock one just doesn't cut it. The Ricochet off-road aluminum skid plate is an awesome option for protecting the engine case. not only do I show how to install it in this video but I also put it to the test.

    Great video Tdub's Kid! My wife just installed her own Ricochet skidplate (she's 68, and learning to "wrench"!!!) after watching your video! Got the tools, the carbon pad for noise, got the stock one off, bent the hanger, did it all! I set the torque wrench for her, but she did the work! Now her T-Dub, "Willow" is protected!

    I just installed this (replacing the stock) on Friday and took it out all day Sat. The video came in handy - thanks TdubsKid!
    Noise: It does add additional noise, a but more low-end rumble - but it's not too bad.
    Concerning heat (at the 1:30 mark) - it does cause the engine to run a bit hotter. I have a temp gauge on the spark-plug and under normal super easy cruising before the Ricochet my temp was about 250 F. After the install I was running 260-265F. (It also could have been the altitude I was riding at made me a little lean and that might explain some of the extra heat.) I'll update if I I see different results at my normal altitude.
    Peace. Out.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  2 роки тому

      hey glad the vid came in handy! glad you don't mine the noise as much, kind of a trade off. yeah I could see a bit of extra heat, also might act as a heat sync to dissipate heat too. let me know

    It's amazing to me that a lot of TWs used off road don't have an after market skid plate. The stock one is so flimsy that you can literally fold it in two. Keep up the good work!

    Thanks for the video!! I've been wanting to do it for for 2 years but just installed mine tonight.
    Ricochet changed the rear bracket from a J-hook to full bracket that won't work at all with the wire hanger, but it came off easily with a pair of pliers. I can't believe that's all the old skid plate was held on by.

    I bought a 2021 model today and am now binge watching your channel to figure out the essential mods. You have some great content and it is clear you put a LOT of effort into producing your videos. Two questions:
    1) is this still the skid plate you would recommend?
    2) do you have a concise listing of your preferred mods with affiliate links?
    I know I will be doing the skid plate and grip guards (on stock handle bars) as the priority. Rear rack likely after that. Thanks

      thanks! yeah it's not Ideal to use a torque wrench with knuckles and extensions but that was the only way I could get to that bolt tight without taking the skid plate back off, and If I tightened it before puting the plate on, the brackets wouldn't line up perfectly with the plate

    When I first saw the difference my first thought was that the holes in the OEM were for cooling. Why not put a couple of holes in the replacement? Maybe you could line the engine side with a soft self adhering heat shield material to deaden the reflected noise.

    Install on this thing is a bear. I ended up basically putting the plate on like you did, but couldn't get my torque wrench in position to use it on the main engine mounting bolt....I just took a guess and made sure it was tight. The fastener bolts don't come with a torque spec, so more of the same guess work. The video helped though. Were you worried you overtightened the fastener bolts? Nothing looked bent or warped when I was done, but it is aluminum.

    • @TDubsKid
      @TDubsKid  5 років тому

      yeah it's hard to get a torque wrench in there but nice and tight should be ok, yeah those bolts are good just nice and tight as well haha glad it helped, it would be pretty hard to over tighten them, you won't warp the skid plate, it just takes some getting use to to know how tight things should be, the nuts are locking so they won't back out even if they are not really tight

    meyby you can put some rubber of a pice of tube betwin the scate plate and te motobike so it will prevent the noise? and you can make a pair of holes in the front? for extra ventilation. enyway like the video men. 😀😀😀😀

    • @TDubsKid

      yeah I have heard of people doing that, it's not a bad idea, it does reflect a lot of noise. it kind of acts like a giant heat sync which my help cool the engine, holes might be a good idea though it would just be weaker, thanks man!
