If I remember correctly, being resurrected by the light usually wipes their past memories. The fact that Cayde knew him seems to indicate that it wasn't the light(Traveler) that brought him back to life. It could still be possible, but this theory is plausible. This next part is more of a theory. The reward we get for beating this quest has a lore that may actually explain how Cayde is back. I'll summarize the lore: Crow met Mara before he left to head to the tower, Mara asked him if he would of done something different if he could go back in time. He mentioned Cayde, which surprised Mara. The very last sentence in that exotic ship's lore is when Mara says" O brother mine". That last sentence, along with the conversation, made me realize that it wasn't Mara he was talking to but possibly it was Riven taking the form of Mara. Ahamkaras are known for shape-shifting. Perhaps that because of that conversation, he may have unexpected made a wish with riven to resurrect Cayde, in which cayde still has his past memories.
That is an incredible theory that I think might have some weight to it (unless there's something I'm not realizing; although, didn't Riven only have ONE wish to give and that would make it 2?).
@@JSkeleton true, but what if this was one of the other wishes before the final wish. If riven was Mara, perhaps she had one extra wish left specifically for Crow and Crow never realized it

@@gregoryosbun4141 the lore from the ship is defo the reason hes back, "maras eyes shimmer" or whatever it was, while yes its played off as if its the light, is indication of wish magic, as is "mara murmers", whispers can be heard when wish magic is used, also this being directly after the 'wish' crow made, *and* the o brother mine, yeah he was defo wished back to life
Consider the ships name honestly does sound like a solid theory, tho I'm inclined to think it's not exclusively the result of a wish, I suspect the Travellers light played a part too.
